was talking with a friend about how some of dunmeshi fаndom misunderstands kabru's initial feelings towards laios.
to sum up kabru's situation via a self-contained modernized metaphor:
kabru is like a guy who lost his entire family in a highly traumatic car accident. years later he joins a discord server and takes note of laios, another server member who seems interesting, so they start chatting. then laios reveals his special interest and favorite movie of all time is David Cronenberg's Crash (1996), and invites kabru to go watch a demolition derby with him
#dungeon meshi#delicious in dungeon#kabru#kabru already added laios as a discord friend. everyone else in the server can see laios excitedly asking kabru to go with him#what would You even Do in this situation. how would YOU feel?#basically: kabru isnt a laios-hater! hes just in shock bc Thats His Trauma. the key part is kabru still says yes#bc he wants to get to know laios. to understand why laios would be so fascinated by something horrific to him#and ALSO bc even while in shock kabru can still tell laios has unique expertise + knowledge that Could be used for Good#even if kabru doesnt fully trust laios yet (bc kabru just started talking to the guy 2 hours ago. they barely know each other)#kabru also understands that getting to know ppl (esp laios) means having to get to know their passions. even if it triggers his trauma here#but thats too much to fit in this metaphor/analogy. this is NOT an AU! its not supposed to cover everything abt kabru or laios' character!#its a self-contained metaphor written Specifically to be more easily relatable+thus easy to understand for general ppl online#(ie. assumed discord users. hence why i said (a non-specific) 'discord server' and not something specific like 'car repair subreddit')#its for ppl who mightve not fully grasped kabru's character+intentions and think hes being mean/'chaotic'/murderous.#to place ppl in kabru's shoes in an emotionally similar situation thats more possible/grounded in irl experiences and contexts.#and also for the movie punchline#mynn.txt#dm text#crossposting my tweets onto here since my friends suggested so

I'm just gonna say this right now: The communities feature sounds a lot like subreddits, and we'll have problems with powermods moderating multiple communities as well as other power-hungry problems. Mark my words: This will not end well.

🌟 New
On web, when you search for something else from the search page, the filters you previously set will now carry through to the new search.
We’ve updated how blocking users affects content inside communities. Admins/mods will be able to see community posts/replies from every member of the community, even if they’ve blocked the member or the member has blocked them. Members will always be able to see community posts/replies from admins/mods, even if they have blocked the admins/mods.
Community admins/mods now have badges within the community to identify their role.
Community admins can now promote/demote mods.
🛠 Fixed
In the notes view inside communities’ posts, the bell icon is now visible and allows you to subscribe/unsubscribe from new notifications about comments on that post.
🚧 Ongoing
No ongoing incidents to speak of right now.
🌱 Upcoming
No upcoming launches to announce today.
Experiencing an issue? Check for Known Issues and file a Support Request if you have something new. We’ll get back to you as soon as we can!

Fascinating. I was added as an "approved user" to a cat subreddit I don't subscribe to and have never heard of.

What was everybody's nightly random brain spiral this fine evening (it's 5am)?
Mine was spending 3+hrs deep diving into researching the US military nuclear naval officer program due to a recruitment email I got in my school email (I'm an engineering major rn) despite the fact that I knew realistically I have too many medical conditions to qualify.
At the end of my brain spiral, I found an official document listing every disqualifying medical condition and I disqualify on a MINIMUM of 4 separate accounts from that list. I was literally WEEPING in laughter. The absolute delulu and audacity I had thinking my chronically-ill ass could even CONSIDER this.
Anyways that's how my evening went.

one of the most frustrating things is when you watch something thats very character focused and then you go online and see that almost all fan discussions boil down to "why dont the characters just communicate ugh i hate every single one of them theyre so annoying can they just focus on moving the plot along" like damn it sounds like some of you should just go watch something else huh

BEGGING people to learn how to mark spoilers effectively. this is mostly about sites like Reddit where you can have a title and then hide the body of the post, or discord where you can hide select parts of your message — tumblr’s tags work differently, but I guess this could apply for putting spoilers under a post break. regardless, people everywhere should know this stuff
If you make a post with a title like “What did you think of this moment?” and then tag it as containing spoilers, that tells me nothing. I’m on book 1 of a series right now with 5 books so far, can I read this post without spoiling something? I have no clue! I could click on the post to see what it’s about, but then, oops, maybe I’ve spoiled a major moment from a later book. Or maybe it’s something from book 1 and I’m fine 🤷🏼‍♀️ I can’t know unless I click!
UNLESS. You title your post “What did you think of this moment at the end of book 3?” or whatever. Now I know not to click on it! You need to include SOME kind of non-spoiler information about what exactly you’re discussing, so people can know whether or not it’s a spoiler for them. Now go forth and mark your spoilers effectively

I feel like in the past the mix of this site being used for both activism and fandom helped contribute to a lot of unhinged politicized fandom discourse where yeah ofc there's a political tie to media but ppl used it as... a form of activism where it was given disproportionate importance compared to other activism discussions? Whereas now we're swinging to the opposite site of How Dare You Care About Meaningless TV Shows When Politics.
Like... we can have a mix of realizing there's more important stuff to focus on than shipping discourse in the world at large without also minimizing the insane doxxing and death threats behavior going on in fandom that people in fandom have to take into consideration to be able to do their hobby, esp given how those attitudes stem from irl political climates at times in ways that are telling to study. Hobbies are kinda how we prevent activism burnout also. Crazey how that works.
#Txt#I am also not immune to overly politicizing fandom#But also I use the site in the curated fashion one would use fandom dedicated forums in#So of course that's my focus here and ofc i process a lot here specifically thru a fandom lens#Ofc other people do too if you look at it in that way#So it's probably bizarre for ppl who do come here primarily for activism to see posts abt#fandom drama btwn posts abt the world being on fire#Ofc that contrast makes fandom stuff all look totally meaningless#when... every community has these discussions esp within curated spaces#It's not stupid to care about fandom bs that impacts me in fandom#And it is in fact weird to assume my posts here are a reflection of my understanding of the world and#a performance of everything I'm doing or not doing to help a cause#Just like someone who uses this site for activism probably has an irl club they're in#for a less stressful hobby. Or at least I hope they do#The difference is that's not under surveillance bc it's offline lol#And im sure clubs or whatever have their insane drama too that needs attention sometimes#Maybe I'm overly sensitive to these things as a person w health issues that make#my options for socializing fairly limited - so the specific brand of unhinged social shit#that happens in online fandoms does weigh more heavily for me and the tons of other ppl#like me who hang out here bc we don't have anywhere irl#But idk I don't think it needs to be an extreme case for there to be some basic understanding#of why fandom is like... important to people... and that other people on a site#where you can so easily curate ur experience are gonna be talking abt stuff#relevant to the way they've curated their experience#Barging into the crocheting subreddit like why aren't you talking about pothole maintenance in New Jersey#Ik tumblr is more mixed up but that's what this feels like sometimes#Specific spaces for specific things. What a concept.

I believe that if you have been active on the Glee subreddit in the last 5-10 years, particularly in the pandemic era, you deserve financial compensation, a Medal of Honor, literally anything for being in the trenches on that thread. Every time I log on to check and see what’s up, they are literally posting the most rancid takes and excusing homophobia or racism or both. It was truly were nuance and analysis would go to die, especially for characters like Santana and Quinn who didn’t fit into the nice near boxes of the show.
If your a fellow deserter/former member, you have my upmost respect
