Capetown stole my heart; story coming soon to the blog! South Africa was never on my must-see list, but after being in the region on assignment in Botswana, I figured.. Let me check it out. Now, I say to everyone, put Capetown on the top of your bucket-list! Crowned by a trip to Robben Island to see where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years, it was truly unforgettable. From strolling along Camps Bay Beach, dangerously stumbling in Cape Point to see where The Atlantic Ocean meets The Indian Ocean, to meeting locals in Langa Township, it was a trip of a lifetime! Sure missing Morocco today, can’t wait to get back on the road! Ranging from the breathtaking Saharan Dunes, to the high peaks of Mt. Atlas, for travelers, Morocco is the ideal tailor made destination. The appealing and breathtaking scene of the high Atlas Mountain peacefully makes a diagonal cut across the Kingdom of Morocco and almost encircles the Marrakesh both to the south and the east of the Atlantic coast. The beautiful and most hospitable Moroccan natives living in the environs of the Atlas mountains observe some form of cultural diversities that will literally blow your mind. Topping their beauty, snow falls in the highest reaches of the Atlas Mountains. Our main goal on the assignment was to tie the Chernobyl Power Plant (and Pripyat, the city evacuated after the nuclear accident in 1986) together with the current life in Slavutych; since both cities were built for and around the workers of Chernobyl. We had a plan, and the story unfolded perfectly. Of course there were aMANY levels to the work that CFF is doing, such as The Dogs of Chernobyl, helping past and current workers at the plant, local rehabilitation centers and hospitals. To top it off there was a story in itself around every corner, so photographing pretty much everything I saw has been a dream. I watch the waves caress the beach, sands slide in for a silent swim. Each one an individual grain; one universe among many, baked in the sun’s warmth. I sink my toes into the surf among those grains and smile. The coolness of the watery foam, slithers around my ankles and I can’t resist a delightful dive. Tranquility is immersion in Earth’s womb. -M.L. Kiser From Casablanca to Agadir and beyond, Morocco has some of the most beautiful beaches! One of my favorite spots was Taghazout; a small fishing village 25 miles north of the city of Agadir in the south-west of Morocco. Fishing, tourism, and the production of Argan oil being the main source of income. From what I read it sounded a lot like my second hometown in Peru, Punta Negra.. so although there so many places I wanted to visit it Morocco, Taghazout was top of my list. There was a big swell on my last day there and the surfers hit the waves.
