ROBO SLEUTHS: FAQ

Will update with the things people ask a LOT about the Robo Sleuths, plus a few extra questions I can easily answer.

1. What is Robo Sleuths: Robot Detectives?

According to the RSRD community: "Enid is an optimistic and spunky go-getter who has been in a very deep rut recently. She hasn't been able to get a job as an entertainer, she's been very close to getting kicked out of her property (twice), her alcohol problem hasn't been getting any better, and, oh yeah, she still secretly thinks the robot thing sucks. But recently, she's been presented with a new opportunity: a chance to work as a paid detective for an anonymous source, if she can solve a case. Given she took a crime course in college she sees this as a great opportunity to gather her life together. In her newfound career, she encounters a plethora of sleuths, including a human-like yet pessimistic computer, a quiet robot with a secret past life, a threatening interviewer with a wide-eyed stare, and a guy there just for the benefits. But the deeper she goes into this crime rabbit hole, the more she uncovers about the shady town- and perhaps the robot business itself."

2. Who are the characters?

I'll be honest... I need to make a document for that; there are quite a few of them. But you can check out the "robo sleuths: robot detectives" tag for a start! (To find all the posts you may need to scour the "robosleuths" and "robotdetectives" series tags as well.)

3. Are Enid and Rodney married?

No, Enid and Rodney are not married in canon. The drawing I made is for an AU, which was stated just below the cut but which I really should've put above it. They do have an on-and-off situationship for the most part, though.

4. Is Rodney cool/Does he pull?

...no.

5. What's with the robots?

(I have started calling them robos to distinguish them from pure robots but) The robos are humans that have been turned into machines for various reasons, including appearance or medical reasons! The robots, on the other hand, are wholly machine/AI.

6. What is the series' age rating?

Currently, the series is rated 14+ or TV-14 DLSV (though I'm uncertain whether to keep the language part as I don't tend to swear with these projects). As I develop the series, though, it may be a little more mature and get a TV-MA rating (17+)... time'll tell.

7. How do I find a specific character?

Besides the tabs on the website version, you'll be able to find a character by searching for #robo sleuths [character name]. Keep in mind not all characters and posts are tagged yet!

As a response to the post…

my current WIP is called the Robo Sleuths! Right now it's more of concept since I've only drawn and talked about it; I haven't written anything for the story yet. You may have seen it quite a bit recently.

It's a sort of dark comedy-crime-detective-noir drama. Thing.

basically it follows Enid, a peppy and seemingly optimistic girl, and Lou, a more down to earth intelligent guy. Who are, of course, robot sleuths.

I should clarify: when I talk about robots I usually mean one of two things: either the character was a human who got turned (or had some part of them) turned into a robot, like Enid or Rodney, or the character is a computer with a generally advanced ai, like Nathaniel or Moe. Sometimes I don’t specify. It’s more fun.

Anyway I think the story is supposed to follow Enid, after an… incident, as a human, wanting to start a detective agency as a way to make her robot life now more interesting.

Over time though, she ends up finding more sinister secrets related to the robots and specific groups around the town, including the company that made the robots… and maybe even her own coworker.

(I guess that’s the synopsis?)

The characters and groups found include:

her friends at work: Cathy, Alice, Heather, Emmie, and Jim

Antagonistic characters (to varying degrees): Rodney, Veronica, Monica, (unnamed fourth character), Tony, Gunner, Lucy

other detectives/sleuths/lawyers: Nathaniel Jeremiah, Leroy, Moe, Petey, Bebe

college kids, possibly interns: Carrie, Ned

side characters: gus, manny, housewife (I forgot her name!!)

I don’t know if I got all the characters but that’s the stick of it. I hope it makes some sense.

I’m open to any character ideas! :)

This is a Really cool idea!

I think this will be really cool when it's done, and it has the potential to also make an AWESOME webcomic if you made it into one.

It's also extremely creative and I love the ideas about all of the characters being robots or somewhat robot, though I'm not sure about some stuff because you didn't really specify on a main plot. Though it's fine if it doesn't have one (J&R and C4) I have my fair share of plot problems.

Now... for some ideas!

I think it would be cool if you dived into some trauma and/or backstory for some of the characters, and why the more human ones HAVE robot parts. Was it that their body was failing, amputation, cancer, or was it a serious injury? Body dysmorphia? Forced?

And if you can, you should totally create a relationships/opinions of one another relationship chart between all of the characters.

And maybe there's a good factory and an evil one?

I'm not sure if these ideas line up with, or contradict the stuff you've already got. But if you like them, feel free to use them, no credit needed.

Also how the Advanced Ai Gained sentience would be a cool reveal!

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun T – 05 – Enter Ojou-sama!

Like Biribiri herself, despite her personality quirks there are few people you’d want in your corner more than Kongou Mitsuko. This week on Railgun T she finally gets the much-deserved spotlight, demonstrating her value as a person, a young lady, and a friend, and that while three of Misaka’s best friends have been neutralized, there are plenty of others willing to help in her time of need.

After she overhears Kuroko talking like she doesn’t know who Misaka is, Mitsuko admits to Misaka that she knows it wasn’t her for the Balloon Hunter, but her “sister” who looks just like her; abilities aside, Mitsuko can just read people that way. When Misaka asks her to investigate the sister’s disappearance on her behalf, Mitsuko refuses.

This is because for all Misaka knows, Mitsuko could also be brainwashed. Therefore, rather than feed Misaka info that she has no way of knowing is genuine, Mitsuko takes it upon herself to personally find Misaka’s sister and bring her back safe and sound. All she asks is that Misaka keep Shokuhous minions off her back.

Mitsuko’s investigation is off to a good start when she locates Misaka’s frog mask and kitty. But in her rush to take the cat to Judgment so she can continue her sleuthing unfettered, she bumps into Wannai and blurts out exactly what she’s doing without a hint of subterfuge.

While ultimately Wannai is not compromised, one of Baba’s robotic recon dogs picks up the conversation. He wastes no time isolating Mitsuko and then demanding she tell him everything she knows about the Sisters, or else. He’s confident from watching her events that he knows her Aero Hand ability back to front and how to neutralize it.

That’s when Mitsuko proves him so very wrong, by unleashing Aero Hand in a manner and at an intensity of which he was totally unaware. We’re reminded that even a Level 4 can cause plenty of destruction if she wishes, as Mitsuko disperses the robo-dogs and brings down a huge parabolic antenna.

She’s not worried about collateral damage—she is exceedingly wealthy—only protecting Misaka’s sister’s innocent cat. It’s notable she’s also not particularly concerned with her own personal safety; despite her pompous manner, Mitsuko is True Blue when it comes to helping those she considers friends, as well as those whom those friends consider dear.

This ends up her undoing, however, as Baba decides to fight dirty by unleashing a robo-bug that delivers an immobilizing bite to her leg. When Mitsuko takes exception to Baba mocking her selflessness and insults Misaka for “using people”—even if she can’t stand, she’s not going to stand for that!—he starts kicking her until she’s bloody. But still, Mitsuko shields the kitty from harm.

Baba’s about to gather her up to his lair to conduct a drug-induced interrogation—dude is such a loathsome sack of shit—when Saten, Wannai, and Awatsuki arrive just in time. Baba insults Mitsuko as “human debris” their faces, so the latter two calmly ask Saten to take Mitsuko and the cat to safety so they can have some “words” with the dastardly scoundrel.

P.S. Misaka had some good moments this week, despite not being at the forefront. It was mostly just to add color to the group of minders, but I loved how their lilac-haired leader shares Misaka’s genuine love for all things Gekota, and that Misaka took note of how easily her passion could be used to lower her defenses. Her “accidental” train ride was also masterfully done, even if it was ultimately unsuccessful.

Geiju Tsuka, which literally just means artist.

First name: Shun (俊). 俊means ‘talented’, which befits a young painter.

Last name: Hiroshige (広重) 広 means ‘wide’ and ‘重’ means heaviness. This is also the name of famous ukiyo-e artist Hiroshige.

Therefore Shun Hiroshige (広重 俊)

Gema Taku, which is basically ‘game otaku’ in a Japanese accent.

First name: Shigeru (茂) which means ‘to be luxuriant, abundant’. This is the first name of game designer Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo fame. I think it’s a nice shoutout to the famous game producer.

Last name: Kōzuki (上月). This is the last name of the founder of Konami, Kagemasa Kozuki.

Therefore: Shigeru Kōzuki (上月茂)

Uekiya Engeika HOOOOOO BOY. Her name is, you guessed it, gardener gardener. It’s moon moon all over again.

First name: Sayuri (百合), which means ‘small lily’. It’s a cute name for someone who is into gardening. It’s also different from names with the prefix ‘hana’, which means flower. There’s already a Hanako in the game, so I didn’t want to add another Hana-.

Last name: Tanaka (田中), which means ‘dweller in the rice paddy/field’. Uekiya spends a lot of time around fields since she’s a gardener.

Therefore: Sayuri Tanaka (田中百合)

Miyuji Shan, which is ‘musician’ in Japanese. It looks so butchered it doesn’t even look Japanese.

First name: Kotone (琴音), which means ‘sound of a harp’. Harp is a stringed instrument, and the guitar is a string instrument. Furthermore, Miyuji was a quiet, mousy girl before her sudden transformation, mirroring the soft sound of a harp. Or perhaps Setsuko (節子), which means ‘child of melody, verse’. Miyuji is a musician.

Last Name: Yoshiki (佳樹). This is the name of the leader of X Japan (a Japanese heavy metal band). Miyuji is a total rocker, so this would be a shout out to him.

Therefore: Kotone Yoshiki (佳樹琴音) or Setsuko Yoshiki (佳樹節子)

Fureddo Jonzu… I actually cringed when I saw this. It’s not a smart pun. It’s just dumb. You also have to consider that voice actors will actually be saying these names, and it’s just gonna be laughable.

First name: Toshio (俊雄), which means ‘sagacious, hero’. Fred Fureddo is described as a natural born leader, and will become a heroic sleuth should the school atmosphere fall too low.

Last name: Taniyama (谷山). Why Taniyama, you ask? Because Kisho Taniyama is the current Japanese voice actor of Fred Jones, the character Fred Fureddo is ‘inspired’ by.

Therefore: Toshio Taniyama (谷山 俊雄)

Kaga Kusha. This means ‘scientist’.

First name: Hiroshi (浩), which means ‘prosperous’. He certainly has a prosperous future! This is also the first name of Hiroshi Ishiguro, the director of Intelligent Robotics Laboratory. It was this group that created Actroid, an android.

Last name: Yokoyama (横山), which means ‘mountain to the side’. This is the surname of Mitsuteru Yokoyama, who is thought to have started the mecha anime genre through his works, Tetsujin 28 and Giant Robo.

Therefore: Hiroshi Yokoyama
