From Gaza to Europe: A Young Girl's Dream is Finally Coming True!

Before the genocidal war on Gaza, I was immersed in university life and enjoyed studying English literature at the Islamic University in Gaza (IUG), which was utterly destroyed by Isr*ael. They destroyed the place that helped me find my passion: performing on stage in English.

My family and I have been displaced multiple times and we ended up now in a tent that does not protect us from any bullets, shrapnel, or the cold and rain of winter. I had never thought I would have to live in such hellish conditions at the age of 20, an age at which I was expecting to be studying at university and enjoying the company of my friends like any other girls my age around the world!!!

Below is my letter of acceptance from Mary Immaculate College (MIC) in Ireland, the place where I am reclaiming and achieving my dreams.

Amid the pain, horrors of war and many near death experiences, luckily, I was awarded a scholarship to do a BA in English Language and Literature at Mary Immaculate College in Ireland. A glimmer of hope shone in my sky, happiness rushed strongly through my veins, and a voice within me roared: "A unique destiny awaits you, Sarah. Seize this opportunity, honor your people abroad, and use your talent to tell the world about Palestine and touch their hearts."

I am literally at a crossroads at this stage in my life. I could keep running from a place to another with my family searching for safety and wasting years of my life without education. Or, you could help me evacuate with my family to Egypt and then go to study at Mary Immaculate College in Ireland.

Ahmed is displaced in southern Gaza caring for his father and brothers while his wife is alone in the north with their fifteen-month-old daughter, Najah, under constant bombardment. They have lost a child before and live in anxiety and fear of never seeing one another again. Shaima's family's campaign has raised $2,179/$30,000. Shaima is a mother of four (Magdy, Walid, Abdel Rahim, and Amal) currently separated from her husband, who was across the border at the time of Israel's attack on Gaza. They have been displaced six times and are in desperate need to evacuate to Egypt to reunite and escape the genocide. Any funds will help secure their safety. Mahmoud's family's campaign has raised $4,035/$40,000. While Mahmoud was able to evacuate to Egypt, his sister, Soha, her husband, Hassan, and their four children (Ahed, Mohammed, Majd, and Karim) are still in Gaza. They have been displaced seven times and now reside in a refugee camp, where conditions continue to worsen. Donations, through Mahmoud, support the family as they struggle to find stability. Lama and Mohammed's campaign has raised $4,115/$10,000. Lama and Mohammed were forcibly displaced from Khan Younis to Rafah along with Mohammed's family of twelve; their house was destroyed in the winter. Lama is now pregnant and in need of care. It comes from Batgirl (2000)!! Chuck Dixon actually introduces Cass watching trashy TV in Batgirl (2000) #30:

But I have no idea if this counts as reality TV since it's some kind of news broadcast, though Babs does describe it as 'junk'. Dylan Horrocks expands on this TV idea further in #51 by showing Cass picking up slang from there (she says "You bet ya sweetie patootie, baby!" and Babs asks where she got that from):

I actually just realised she never explicitly says reality TV here 😭😭. However, the idea of her loving reality TV generally stems from this moment, plus other ones throughout Horrocks' run. I think the leap from trashy news + Cass wanting to "talk... like normal people" support the idea that she's watching reality TV rather than just regular shows!

We finally get reality TV confirmation in Andersen Gabrych's run, from #65:

Look at her... she's literally having the time of her life. I didn't realise until this post how consistent her love for trashy TV actually was!! It's so fun to watch the progression - initially, she's watching it just to get news about crimes; then, she starts mimicking the phrases to talk 'normally'; finally, she's just watching it for pure joy and fun. Cass watching and loving reality TV you are so precious to me <333.

Something I really like about timebomb is that Ekko actually knows what he's getting into.

I'm not really seeing it get talked about but in season 1 they mention that Ekko and the firelights help people addicted to shimmer get off it and lead more fulfilling lives within the community. I should probably rewatch the scene for the exact wording (might be misremembering tbh) but that comment implies A LOT.

First: Ekko's mission is helping people where he can, he would probably try and help Jinx even if he wasn't in love with her

Second: He has experience dealing with severe mental illness as that often goes hand in hand with drug abuse, namely depression/suicidal ideation like what Jinx was exhibiting

Third: He's probably mapped out best course of action FOR dealing with this and has already figured out his own limits/boundaries. Meaning he knew what he was getting into trying to talk Jinx out of suicide, and was thus more equipped to deal with the aftermath

Fourth: He's probably helped ex members of Silco's gang. The firelights seem to have a theme of healing and repairing and recovering, so they've probably also learned to forgive. If they're mission is to rebuild the lanes into a safe space, they can't exclude people they don't like, they have to make room for them. I think they fought Silco out of necessity, and I doubt Jinx would be the first person they help who's killed one of them.

These all might be a bit of a stretch but I think it really fits. Beyond that, it shows that Ekko can ACTUALLY help Jinx. As much as unconditional love can do, Ekko has the tools for Jinx's recovery and a path ready for her. He also probably knows that her "healthy" will look different from AU Powder's "healthy." On top of that, I expect he knows how to respect her even in the middle of psychotic breaks and won't agitate her already frail mental state

Honestly they were having the time of their lives, they are genuinely the couple who would read all those comments and convos fighting over "Starfire and Nightwing" vs. "Starfire and Dick Grayson" and laugh and giggle over it all.

Like the press and public are crazy about them and the drama they invented in their heads about this relationship 😭

The reporters are genuinely loving this whole mess, they're invested 😭

(It's giving old Hollywood scandal 😭)

At its core though, the mess of this entire arc and the jokes aside, Dick's desire to be himself with her and to be seen with her without any masks or pretenses came from a very genuine place:

He genuinely wanted to be able to be himself while being with the love of his life, no wigs or fake names or pretenses.

This is honestly a very interesting arc to explore and I'm sure that we would have had much more of it and much more in depth if their planned wedding wasn't mandated. It's a very fun aspect of their relationship and it also deals with Dick's deep desire and longing to be himself, without masks, while being with Kory. The plan was a mess but Dick's hope for it to work and publicly declaring his love for Kory was very sweet.

It also makes such great material for the funnier and more comedic side, especially considering Kory's fame. I truly hope that someday in the future this will be revisited if they ever get together, or even by the fandom lol. It's a very underrated aspect of their relationship that really shows how complicit and hilarious they both are as a couple. It's lovely 😭
