(Neptune in the 1st) She receives messages through a state of 'Deja Vu' and channels it through the prediction of things.

Remember Nova and Cicada? Well, here's the team!
Featuring Nova, Cicada, and newer addition Leiden!
Hey look, a cut! There'd BETTER NOT be a wall of text under that thing.
Nova- LSTR
Before working as a Handler, Nova served as demolitions specialist in the Eusan Infantry, doubling as reconnaissance specialist; making for a devastating combination of effectively analyzing enemy encampments before blowing it right to hell. Her skills were viewed as apt and her commanding officers had her transferred to a strike team. She uses a variety of shrapnel, high-explosive, and incendiary grenades during combat, strategically obliterating assets.Â
As a SKUA strike team handler, Nova is privileged with the best equipment of the army. Despite this, she only uses this advantage to choose grenades amongst other explosives- using an old bolt-action rifle loaded with simple but effective armor-piercing rounds. She carries a hatchet on her person for survivalist purposes as well as combat. Her armor is unorthodox as well- crafted from recycled steel plates with the help of befriended ARAR units.
Nova has a mischievous, teasing, and nonchalant personality, mixed with a penchant for taking the single most unorthodox method of completing a task. Her methods are officially cataloged as ���Odd, concerning, entirely terrifyingâ. Such methods include driving a captured truck loaded with explosives directly into an enemy convoy, using landmines strapped to the grille to detonate upon impact while using duct tape to hold the accelerator down, as well as dousing a downed tree in gasoline before having cicada throw it an the enemy.
Nova seldom wears her gasmask, only donning it when in the vicinity of hazards or in irradiated areas. She also smokes quite a lot.
Cicada- SKUR
Cicada is the powerhouse of the team. Before now, she worked with two other handlers at differing times, both deceased. Cicada carries a powerful machine gun meant for overwhelming suppressing fire; However, sheâs a crack shot and instead uses it to accurately and utterly annihilate the enemy with high-caliber rounds. To complement her HMG, she uses an automatic shotgun for closer ranges.Â
She has memorized every weak spot of tanks, IFVs, and other combat vehicles and uses this knowledge to disable them with only a few rounds. Not that it matters at close range, as she can tear open almost any vehicle. Sheâs also able to stop vehicles in their tracks at high speeds and throw smaller ones, as discovered by imperial soldiers who attempted to crash her. Cicada, despite her terrifying visage and combat skills, is a gentle and caring unit, most fascinated by local fauna and likes watching large herds travel. If she can get close, sheâll try to pet the deer and horses. Sheâs especially upset that she cannot ride them- but is content with them resting on her instead. Oddly, if she names the fauna, she will give them designations instead of names, such as "D4" for the fourth deer found, stating "It is better they choose their names. "She also has a special interest in flowers, liking to adorn herself with them.
Nova has an affectionate nickname for her: Cica. Leiden calls her Cicada at all times.
Cicada is fond of Ara units especially, as they generally have assortments of flowers and can guide her to where they grow. Whenever they are actually at a camp, Cicada will sometimes gently try to approach them, although the Aras are usually terrified of her- so she will simply hang to the side and leave them on their own most times. She will also sit just outside where the Eules work, so she can listen to them sing. Reportedly, she attempted to sing with them once, and never again, likely due to their reaction.
Leiden- KLBR
Since Nova and Cicada operate well away from Eusan forces for long periods of time; often missing the routine check-ins for Cicadas mental state, ĂON has stationed a kolibri unit with the two for constant monitoring, by the name of Leiden; Thus allowing the team to stay away even longer.
While small, do not underestimate Leiden. Before her restationing as a handler, she served as a brutal interrogator, torturer, and executioner, and is horrifically known for brutal methods and high-efficiency, mixed with a ruthless streak that borders on sadism. Originally stationed at a facility with a distinct lack of Storches, she fulfilled their brutal roles in their stead, discovering a talent for the crafts. What info Nova cannot recover via surveillance, espionage, or stolen documents, Leiden recovers from remaining imperial soldiers. There is only one way to survive Leidenâs interrogations, and thatâs to give her what she wants; the truth. She can smell a lie a planet away. Lies only make the torturous onslaught worse- and refusal to divulge only makes it longer.
Unlike Nova, Leiden uses her privileges as a handler to use a high-power Submachine gun loaded with powerful hollow-point long-range fragmenting rounds. She's adept at long ranges and aims for the neck. When needed, she disables targets by aiming for and severing tendons and muscle at the legs and arms, thus leaving them unable to run away or fight but alive for interrogation at a later time. Unlike Nova, Leiden almost constantly wears her gasmask, only adding to her terrifying visage. Leiden is older than she looks, and even before the infantry, served for years as a blockwart officer- though she does not talk of her time there. It is speculated that she had a lover during that time who was lost- most likely a kolibri who was decommissioned or disappeared- she never said- and elected transfer to the infantry of her own volition to escape the memories.
Leiden has numerous scars on the left side of her jaw- allegedly scratch marks from an animal- though this is still more info she does not divulge, and the marks look strangely similar to that from a replikaâs hand.
The only soft spots one can find are those for Cicada and Nova. She respects both Cicada and Novaâs prowess in combat. She finds Novaâs good-natured and humorous tendencies to be amusing, and finds Cicada oddly cute for a a 7.5 foot tall behemoth of death, especially when she earnestly asks if she can be excused to pet the deer. Nova likes to call her Lei, and sheâs the only one who can do this other than Cicada, who usually just calls her Leiden or Protektor Leiden.

When he turns and kills someone just two days after being released, it's up to you and your team to figure out why he did what he did and if there is anything more about his situation.

Don is taken to the briefing room where Penelope has set up a TV with the video in. Don has a remote that he can use to control the video, and he gasps emotionally when he sees his family. When the static comes, he rewinds it to the beginning of the video and watches it again. He does this over and over again.
You join the others in the bullpen and sip the iced coffee you had when you first came in this morning. It's mostly water now but you still drink it. Derek stays with Don in the briefing room.
"What we just watched was documented but not for a trophy. It seems to be from Tom's point of view. I mean, she's obviously an accessory. Why not just destroy the evidence?"
"She got something out of it. Her place was way more than she could afford. She never got married, and she had a son who went to private school."
"Do you think it's his kid?" Spencer asks.
"That would explain the bond and why he didn't get rid of her before today."
"You said her place was nice," Ashley says to you. "If he's covering his tracks, he's paying her in cash. Who can afford to do that?"
Derek gave Don five more minutes with the video before he had to go back to the interrogation room without it. You all gather in the briefing room to talk more about the case. The only ones who can afford Mary's place in cash are rich-rich men. Penelope is less than thrilled with this task.
"You want me to find rich and powerful men in DC? Explain to me how to narrow down this list."
"Start with men who grew up in the district and came from nothing." Penelope starts typing. "His ambition will define him. Whoever did this enjoys taking power away. He's been way too smart to keep on killing. So, what would satisfy a guy like this?"
"He's manipulative but trustworthy. Two other people witnessed that murder and they never turned on him."
"Guys, we have to think of this city as the unsub's comfort zone. He didn't leave for a reason," Derek says. "A target-rich environment. The damage he's done and continues to do is right here in DC."
"You think he's involved in politics?" Rossi asks.
"I think it's more intimate than that. He needs victims who suffer directly from what he's doing."
"Okay, I'll cross politicians off my list."
"Look into asset-based lenders like big money-making ventures where people would be left in his wake or some kind of corporate takeover."
"A business man as a psychopath?" Ash wonders.
"They have the same characteristics. They just use their skills differently. They both have narcissistic traits, such as a grandiose sense of self-importance, deceptiveness, and lack of remorse," you explain.
"I have thirty-six and counting of hard-core businessmen," Penelope says.
"That's way too many," Derek sighs.
"We can each take six and look for connections," Emily offers.
"No, no." Derek pauses. "Wait a minute. If we had this case twenty-five years ago, what would we have seen? How would we fight the physical evidence?"
"We'd look at what the unsub did the moment he arrived at the house."
"Right. They broke into the basement through a window with rusted-out bars. Garcia, who lived at the house before the Sandersons?"
Penelope types away. "Property records show it hasn't exchanged too many hands. The Barretts, the Kramers, the Stanworths."
"Any of those names on your list of businessmen?" Derek asks.
"No. Let me look at that longer list. Hold, please." She pauses and continues to type. "Hey, family of James Stanworth. They lost the house in '82 and then they moved to the outskirts."
"He knew the Sandersons and would obviously know that house. There was nothing random about that attack."
"He's a native Washingtonian, married with three kids."
"He has everything to lose," you say.
"Oh," Penelope gasps. "He's running for Congress. Check out his campaign slogan."
You look over her shoulder to see what he's claiming.
"'Let's do this'. He said that on the tape."
"This won't be easy," Rossi sighs.
Before you can just go and arrest this man, you have to talk to Strauss about it. You, Derek, and Rossi go to her office and explain to her what's going on, how you got to the conclusion, and what you want to do about it.
"You want to arrest James Stanworth? Are you out of your mind?"
"He's got motive. Mary had a tape. She was blackmailing him."
"I've seen it. It was a hooded figure. You can't prove it was him on that videotape."
"I can," you say. "Their energies were all over that house."
Strauss glares at you but doesn't say anything about it.
"He fits the profile, Erin."
"Forgive me, but your profile sounds like a self-made man, not the psychopath you claim he is."
"We said he'd be destructive. In 1998 alone, he fired six thousand people from one of his companies. Some of those employees took their own lives. This is the type of power and devastation that he enjoys," Derek argues.
"It's hearsay. Slander if you're not careful."
"Ma'am, he got into politics to be hard on crime. He would have access to keep tabs on Don," you say.
"Now you're sounding as paranoid as Don. You cannot accuse a man without a shred of physical evidence."
"Mary had skin under her nails. Maybe she left a mark."
"You cannot arrest a man based on the possibility of a scratch."
"We can't arrest this man. That's what you mean. Don't pull any punches now, Erin," Rossi glares.
"You don't understand what the politics are, do you, Dave? You never have."
"No, I do. I just don't care."
"I should have listened to Y/N before, and I didn't. She's been right this entire time whether you believe in what she can do or not. I passed her over like I didn't even know her. For that, I'm sorry." He looks at you. "I let my anger cloud my judgment, and you didn't deserve that." You give him a smile but don't say anything. "Ma'am, with all due respect, we have an innocent man in our custody, and the killer is still out there. It just might be James Stanworth."
"You don't have enough proof. The BAU functions without you... Both of you. Don't push it."
That's it. She won't let you arrest him. When you tell the rest of the team this, they're shocked.
"So, there's nothing we can do? This guy's gonna get away with it?" Penelope asks.
"No, not a chance in hell. Garcia, find me James Stanworth right now."
"Mary's his third victim. He's now officially a serial killer," Spencer says.
"What do you want to do?" Ashley asks.
"I want to expose this son of a bitch. If he did kill Mary, he's gonna have cuts on him somewhere. If we match that DNA, we got him."
"Guys, he's having a fundraiser at his house in Mclean," Penelope informs.
"When?"
"It started an hour ago."
"Text me the address."
"What if we're wrong?" Emily asks.
"We're not."
"I doubted Y/N once. Look where it got me. I'm not doing it again. Are you with me?"
"Hell yeah," you smile.
In order to protect the rest of the team, you, Derek, and Rossi are the ones who go to the fundraiser alone. If anyone will get fired for this, it'll be you two. There are a lot of people there, and you push past them to get to the front where James is. He is finishing his speech, and you clap slowly with Derek, gaining the attention of everyone.
"Ladies and gentlemen, Congressman, Mr. James Stanworth. You sure have a way with words. It's mighty impressive."
"Thank you. May I help you?"
"My name's Derek Morgan and this is Y/N. We're with the FBI. Do your friends here know that you're a closet psychopath?"
"Excuse me?"
"Don Sanderson knows," you say. "Do you remember him? I'm sure you do. You murdered his entire family and got him put away for twenty-five years."
James is panicking. You can feel it. However, he's very good at masking his emotions, especially in front of an audience.
"Agent, if you've got anything on me--"
"It's not on you. It's inside of you. Killing Mary Rutka really got you going, didn't it?"
"I'm afraid I don't know who that is."
"Jim, what's going on?" the woman next to James asks.
"They were just leaving.
"I don't understand--"
"Don't worry about it."
"He's good at that, isn't he?" you ask his wife. "Anger. He's dismissive by nature. He can't show affection, though, can he?" You look at James. "You walk on eggshells around your wife and the children."
"Jim--"
"Shut up!" he yells at her.
"Here it comes," Derek says.
"Where was your husband today around 3:00?" you ask.
"These are ridiculous fabrications."
"Last I checked, we weren't talking to you," you glare at him. "Ma'am, I can tell you where he was. I held the hand of the woman he murdered. James, whoever did kill Mary left some DNA behind under her fingernails." You grab his wrist and show it to everyone in the room. There are scratches on his hand. "What's that?"
"Well, that would be a cut. I cut myself on a broken glass."

"I can feel it," you whisper. "You panicked. You're a killer. It's what you do. You destroy people's lives."
"I destroyed no one."
"You put a man away for life, you murdered his family, and today you killed a woman--"
"I killed no one."
"--who would never betray you because you panicked." Your voice rises. "You are a killer. You are a psychopath! You panicked and--"
"I don't panic!" James yells and yanks his hand from your grip. "I don't panic!!"
"There he is," Derek grins.
"Jim, what's going on?" his wife asks.
"Call Charles. Don't say another word. They've got nothing."
"We found the tape," you say.
James' face falls knowing you've got him.
"James Stanworth, you're under arrest for the murder of Mary Rutka," Bill says and makes the arrest. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to speak to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you."
James is taken away in front of everyone. That video and the scratches are what Don needs to get out of all charges against him. He is finally proven innocent.
"Y/N, I am so sorry," Derek says after James is taken away.
"It's not okay but I forgive you anyway."
"Why?" he scoffs.
"You're my family. Family is supposed to piss you off, I guess. Also, I refuse to let something like this come between us."
"I really am sorry."
"I know," you smile and hug him.
The weekend comes faster than you'd think and Hotch brings Jack over as soon as he can. He looks tired when you answer the door, and Jack comes running inside with a smile on his face.
"Thank you for doing this. I appreciate it."
"No problem. Get some sleep, okay? You can pick him up on Sunday night." Hotch leaves and you turn to Jack who has a big smile on his face. "So, want to start the night off with a movie?"
"Yeah!"
"You two get set up. I'll make the popcorn," Spencer says.
You two get settled on the couch, and he snuggles up to your side. You know he loves Spider-Man so you put on the first one. Frank watches through the small computer screen as you get comfortable with Jack. Spencer comes back with the popcorn and joins you two on the couch like one big happy family. It reminds him of when you were growing up. You'd treat your younger foster siblings the same exact way. You were and are a very maternal woman.
Frank grabs a file and opens it, smirking when he sees Hannah's face staring back at him. He has loads of information on everyone in your life, including your daughter. He remembers the day you told your parents of your pregnancy. It was cute to watch how scared you've become. Your dad convinced you that it was something normal and like the stupid fool you are, you believed him.
Frank got so pissed when he found out you were pregnant because of the rape. If he knew what was going to happen, he would have never sent his friend after you.
He can't be too mad, though, because it made you who you are today, and Frank likes that he was part of that.

Easterman's star reagent; his Magnum Opus. Focused, Obedient, Determined, Strong, and Durable, Chalcanthite was everything the man could've ever hoped for to endure the Trials, everything he wants a reagent to be.
Easterman's most oppressive failure; Volatile, Dependent, Aggressive, Uncooperative, and Obsessive. Chalcanthite is nothing other than a desperate, simpering dog begging for scraps.
Easterman wont let his training go to waste, however; he still has uses for such violence and loyalty.
Chalcanthite could never get away that easy.
Chalcanthite Mechanic Behaviours:
-Chalcanthite will never be released into an introductory level Therapy other than the (original) MK Challenge 'K9 Kennel Madness' and the (original) Therpay Trial 'Kill the Curiosity'
-Chalcanthite will chase any spotted reagents and attack for one and a half bars of health in Standard Therapy, three bars of health in Intensive Therapy, and instantly incapacitate a reagent in Psychosurgery Therapy (this does not apply to reagents with the âLast Chanceâ amp).
-Chalcanthite will stop chasing a nonbleeding reagent 20% sooner than other grunts.
-Although Chalcanthite can not see in the dark, Chalcanthite can see reagents within 3 feet of nearby electrical sparks, including but not limited to: Coyleâs baton, Electrical floor traps, and random sparking wires across the trial setting.
-If Leland Coyle has already been released within the trial setting, Chalcanthite will voice an alert for Coyle at the sight of a reagent, attracting the Prime Asset to the location of the reagent found. This can be used by reagents to lead Coyle away from task-important locations.
-Chalcanthite has random patrol dialogue that triggers every 7 seconds. Most of Chalcanthite's patrol lines are loud and/or rambling, easily alerting reagents to his location.
-Chalcanthite will not fall for audio distractions from bottles or bricks. Attempting to distract him with this method will only trigger a specialized dialogue.
-Even if already chasing a reagent, Chalcanthite will switch targets if a second reagent hits Coyle with a projectile within his line of sight to instead prioritize the offensive reagent. This can be used by reagents to prevent Chalcanthite from attacking a reagent carrying task-related cargo.
-While Chalcanthiteâs attacks do not cause bleeding, he is able to track the blood of reagents with the âbleedingâ effect until the effect has worn off, to which he will follow until the end of the existing blood trail before continuing his natural patrol pattern. It is not recommended for reagents to try and hide while bleeding, as he will be able to find them in their hiding spot. Chalcanthite, once within radius, will always follow the most recent blood trail, even if he was not witness to the initial attack.
-When stunned, Chalcanthite will remain incapacitated for twice as long as a regular member of Ex-Pop
-Chalcanthite responds normally to Blind Rig Mines.
-It takes Chalcanthite 2 hits to break through a locked door, and 4 hits to break through a Rig-administered barricade.
-Chalcanthite will completely lose interest in a reagent with the Heal Rig for 5 seconds if they deploy the poison gas within proper radius.
-When corrupted by a Jammer Rig, Chalcanthite's interruption consists of a seizure lasting 7 seconds. Visually, Chalcanthite will crouch down and frantically scratch at his head and ears, tail tucked against his body.
-Chalcanthite will not patrol near psychosis mines, and will actively avoid them if they are within his path- the only way for Chalcanthite to run over a mine is if a reagent lures him over one during a chase. Triggered psychosis mines will incapacitate Chalcanthite for twice as long as a regular member of Ex-Pop.
-Chalcanthiteâs execution can be one of three possible cutscenes:
Chalcanthite beating the incapacitated reagent to death with his fists.
Chalcanthite straddling the incapacitated reagent before placing his hands on the reagentâs chest and forehead, proceeding to then rip their throat out with his teeth.
Chalcanthite straddling the incapacitated reagent before grabbing them by the head and repeatedly slamming their skull into the ground.
-If Chalcanthite and Coyle are roaming the same trial setting, an event can randomly be triggered when Chalcanthite and Coyle randomly walk past each other within a certain radius while patrolling. This event is a 5 second long physical assault consisting of Coyle using his stun rod to electrocute Chalcanthite's groin through his clothes when he tries to walk by, interrupting their patrol and thus offering more clearance for a reagent to sneak past. The dialogue paired with this event can also be used to alert reagents of Coyle and Chalcanthite's location. Chalcanthite cannot sprint for 5 seconds after this event. This event will not be triggered if either of them are already chasing a reagent.

I have an issue with constantly getting distracted, so I got distracted from working by making a 100% customizable Pomodoro App to keep my future self from getting distracted. Have a Google Drive download link.
The Pomodoro technique, if you don't know it, is a discipline method for keeping track of when you are working and when you are taking breaks, notably through the use of a timer.
There are tons of apps centered around this, and yet after looking at so many of them, I somehow could not find one that would do the most basic thing I'd like to have for a study companion: change the background of the app so that yes, I do have a timer telling me to work harder, but I also have an image of my choice to cheer me up along with it.
So what did I do? Did I take the rational, reasonable path, to just suck it up and stick to one of the already existing apps even though it would mean saying no to having my adorable Hearthian OC sleep in a corner of my screen?
Or did I go the hyperfocused insane route of utter procrastination and learn a whole new programmation language from scratch just in order to get my frikkin baby to comfort me while I work?
Yeah, who could have guessed.
So! The Google Drive link I shared will let you download everything you need in order to run your own version of this little app, including a tutorial on how to customize it to suit your needs.
The first thing you will see after unzipping the archive is this:
The "ast" folder (standing for "assets") contains every image used by the app -- which means that you can change them as you please! I even gave you transparent versions of the buttons in the "Asset Creation Help" subfolder, in case you like the shapes but want to change the backgrounds.
You think that's cool? Oh, but the image assets are far from being the only thing you can change for this app's behavior! You can change EVERYTHING that this app is doing (which isn't much because it's literally just three different types of timers, and even then there are some trickier details with more coding than others (but I still give tips on how to handle those), but shush. Everything this app can do, you can customize to your heart's content).
How do you do that? Well, this is what you get when you right-click on the "Pomodoro.ps1" file:
The Pomodoro.ps1 file is the "app" itself, written in PowerShell code that I made as legible as I could make it. There is a whole tutorial in there, made easier to read if you right-click on this file's icon and choose the "Edit" option. Have a preview!
Through editing this file, you can then run a Pomodoro app from which you can have the window's appearance customized, from its size, opacity (if you want to still half-see what's sitting behind it), and start position on your screen (the window can be dragged around, but if you have a preferred position you can tell the app to always load it in that preferred spot right from the get go), to stuff like the custom messages you get whenever the timer progresses:
So, yeah. I made a little app meant to help with productivity. One out of many already out there, sure, and it's probably not as cool as many others (but I'll just remind you that three days ago I knew absolutely nothing about PowerShell as a whole, so- I guess that would be still a little impressive that I was able to make a working app like that at all? xD), but as far as I've looked, it's the only one that will let you have your favorite images keep you company while you use it.
I don't know whether anyone other than me will like it enough to use it, but just in case, it's here! Hope it's as easy(-ish) to customize as I made it out to be, or at least close enough.
PS: The version I use for my own personal choices uses some slightly different assets compared to the version I share in the .zip file on my Google Drive. This is because the version I share online solely uses official Outer Wilds art (while the version I made for myself notably uses one piece of OW fanart that I did not make myself, and it didn't sit right with me to share that piece uncredited, even in an edited form. If you are curious, this is the artwork in question).

They discussed the matter over a generous pour of Macallan 50.
He stood in the middle of the room, naked all the way down to his toes, and somehow it was like he was the most dangerous person there. Flanked on all sides by armed guards, heavy restraints dangling from his wrists to his ankles, the uncomfortable bite guard clamped tight around his jaw. Like they couldnât be too cautious, even with the implant and the collar and the drugs. The conditioning and the training and the torture.
âThatâs what I find tricky about these⌠things.â Amber swirled around and around, smooth against heavy glass. âA certain level of autonomy is necessary for what they do. Some aggression and unpredictability is to be expected. Predatory instincts, if you will.â
âIâm not so sure,â the buyer reasoned back, eyeing every piece of him with close intensity. A slab of meat to be haggled over. âI can buyâ what, a dozen or so of those dolls for the same price? And youâre telling me this one doesnât even behave?â
âOur assets are designed to execute complex orders. They arenât puppets. What youâre looking for is something designed for high-stakes operationsâassassinations, sabotage, blackmail. There needs to be a fine balance when it comes to controlling a rabid animal like this. Sometimes it's best left to its own devices.â The handler gave him a keen stare. Every muscle carefully in place, eyes straight ahead. âMessy beings can be capable of such messy, messy things.â
A long moment of silence. It was nothing new, being on display like this. The buyer eyed everything but his face.
"Think of it like this. Youâre investing in a unique tool. There will be an adjustment period, and if you push him too hard, too fast, you might find yourself dealing with a situation you can't control. But we can guide you through it. Weâve designed a maintenance regimen that involves regular injections and compliance protocols to keep him in line, and of course thereâs the shock collar for regular at-home use.â
âAnd what about the implant you mentioned? Is it some sort of tracking chip?â
âYes, in a way. The chip is our method of⌠quality assurance. A way to guarantee our assets stay in line.â The handler gave one big, buttery smile. The hard sell. âNothing like it on the market, you know. We can program him to respond to certain trigger words or phrases, make him attack or shut down at the snap of a finger. We can make him dependent and loyal only to you.â
The buyer studied his face and only found more reasons to be skeptical. âHow?â
âIâm afraid Iâd only be able to demonstrate.â
He wasnât sure how much he was worth in the end. Enough to make the handler quite pleased. His new handler chose some gaudy, twisted up symbol to brand him with, and he didnât twitch or scream when white-hot metal boiled another scar into his skin. The collar made it hard enough to breathe, and this was just the first step to ownership after the initial exchange. It wasn't like it'd get better from here.

Without the threat of the fire to keep him back, Erebus wasted no time darting inside. He ran through the destroyed halls too fast for human eyes to track, springing up to land on a largely untouched part of the second floor and squatted behind a standing section of wall not too far from his targets. His speed was as much an asset as it was a detriment when navigating an environment like this, he thought as the delayed clattering of debris bounced around damningly.
A keen observer would have been able to follow the noises to his location, and in normal circumstances Erebus knew he would have been spotted â but these were not normal circumstances. The two wizards were more interested in each other than their surroundings.
He peeked out from his hiding spot, gaze locked on the scene below.
The astringent scent of burnt flesh hung just under the foul traces of smoke. Ignoring the saliva that pooled in his mouth at the smell of blood, Erebus narrowed his eyes when he caught a glimpse of the blackened heap that was once another human. The lump had been tossed callously to the side.
Pettigrew, he guessed. Hadrian had addressed the man when he first entered the manor, before the door had swung shut and cut off all sound.
He glanced back at the boy, taking in the cautious way he held himself. He was covered in soot and grime, his eyes red-rimmed and wet â had he been crying? Or was it simply from stupidly walking into the blaze? â and utterly fixed on the man across from him. Physically he appeared fine, so Erebus flicked his attention to the Dark Lord, and immediately his eyebrows rose.
Riddle was, simply put, fucked up.
He had seen many injuries in his long life, and had caused his fair share of them, but the wounds covering the older wizard were impressive even by his standards.
Honestly, this whole thing had taken him aback. He had not anticipated the explosion at all. It was so overt and loud, completely at odds with what he had come to expect from Hadrian and Riddle, what with their penchant for quiet power plays and secrecy.
The old conqueror in him appreciated the ruthlessness of the attack. People, humans, were so boring nowadays, preferring subtler methods of confrontation. They were all manipulation and underhand approaches, and while he acknowledged there was a time and place for such tactics, he missed the times when warfare was open and bloody and overt.
He enjoyed the boldness of Hadrianâs move, even if he was puzzled over what had prompted it.

It issss⌠11:38am on Tuesday, March 5th, twenty-twenty-four, and I am about to record a visual assessment of the hand. (BEAT) This is Assessment Record No. 5279H, by the way, for when this reaches Whitby. (FOOTSTEPS AS HENRI WALKS. BUBBLING LIQUID SOUNDS GROW LOUDER IN THE DISTANCE) So old Handy hasnât done much since his last assessment. Weâve been keeping him submerged in the usual silver allium blend, but thereâs no visible reaction yet. Might try upping the silver component, but my professional opinion is that we need to branch out; try acid again, like the 70âs, or liquid helium. Go old school with it, because nothing so far seems to make a dent (BEAT) Anyway⌠Asset is the severed left hand of a human adult. 7.9 inches from tip of index finger to just below the palm, slightly longer than average. Nails are long and healthy in appearance. Skin is pale and wrinkled, both from exposure to liquid and what we assume to be old age. Our last test placed the handâs age at approximately 65 years when it was severed, although the tissue samples seem to continuously regenerate, so we know most dating methods are extremely unreliable. (BEAT) No visible signs of trauma, except for the point of dismemberment, which seems to be the only thing that sticks. All marks made during assessment No.5278h seem to have healed, which tracks with our previous findings. (BEAT) All in all, the hand looks exactly as it usually does. No immediate changes. EF2 May Update 1: Progress Bars and Hiatus Announcement
 Hello everybody! Thatâs right, itâs time for the first May Update! Letâs jump right in with last updateâs goals:
Sketch all 7 primary backgrounds left for Area 4: Done! Theyâre alllll sketched. Yay!
Add planned objekts into Area 3: Done!
Write Objekt Reactions for Munya and Sharma in Area 4: Done!
Maybe actually get those progress bars sorted out?: Done! And, here, letâs take a look at those right away!
Character Conversations: 10/590. These are the conversations between Ame, his allies, and other characters as experienced when choosing the dialogue option âLetâs Talkâ. 590 may seem like a big number, but the ally conversations are counted twice- A convo between Ame, Bea, and Greta is listed once in Beaâs list and once in Gretaâs list, it was just easier for tracking purposes to count them in both places than to weed out the duplicates.
Zones: 0/44. I havenât made any strides in this regard yet. There are twenty-two zones total, each with separate tasks for the visual assets and the minigame implementation.
Backgrounds: 25/67. These are all the planned backgrounds for areas one through seven! Whatâs left includes most of Area 4, all of Areas 5 to 7, and a few secondary backgrounds for Area 1 and Area 2. Area 8 is excluded from the count, and will probably have its own progress bar down the line- While the majority of Pine Creek has some grounding in its map layout, Area 8âs necessary backgrounds will reveal themselves in the writing process.
Death Methods: 2/26. Have I even mentioned this mechanic before? There are thirteen ways Ame can die in the course of the game, and each one has an entry for its visual assets and for its code- The visual assets mainly being âachievement badgesâ for a collection screen, though some will also include a CG! The two completed entries are for the code implementation of the two deaths in the demo: The bus crash, and provoking Veno.
Memory Segments: Â 14/20. I wrote a majority of these back in November! Thereâs a few left, some of which are already partially written. The rest of them arenât a very high priority just yet, since we havenât made it to the unlock conditions for most of them anyhow.
And to be perfectly clear- These bars only reflect specific factors with numbers I know so far- More bars will eventually be added, and I wonât include these progress bars during updates in which they have not changed. They donât fully represent whatâs been worked on up to now OR what will be included in the full game- For instance, not a single one of those âcharacter conversationsâ were included in the demo, conversation branches are a different and less-countable category. But they should give an idea of some part of progress and whatâs being worked on at a given time moving forward!
And, when it comes to those progress bars- Thatâs what Iâll be focusing on very soon! The initial instances of running into each character are established for all but Area 4, and even those are coded in without assets yet. So, Iâm in a very good position to shift focus to writing rather than asset creation for a while. And thatâs exactly what I will be doing inâŚ
~An Update Hiatus~
I know, I just switched from once-monthly to twice-monthly updates. And when I come back in either September or October (Depending on whether I decide to participate in the Spooktober Gamejam), that will resume. But truth be told, thereâs a LOT happening this summer, including but not at all limited to tabling and paneling at conventions, moving to a different apartment, helping somebody ELSE move to a different apartment, and artfight of course. My attention⌠Is demanded in a lot of other places.
So, while Iâll 100% still be making progress on EF2 during this time, Iâve made the difficult decision for my sanity to let myself off the hooks involved in setting specific targets for specific timeframes. Iâll need to have the freedom to go two weeks without even looking in the direction of EF2 if Iâm going to balance everything in the upcoming months. Official updates will be paused, though Iâll still be posting in the discord!
Iâll be back with plenty of good news when I do return from this break from structure- And the goals for the rest of May are still in effect. Letâs review those!

"Andi, this is SSA Y/N, SSA Derek Morgan, and SSA David Rossi."
"It's nice to meet you," you smile and shake her hand. "So, I hear you might know who did this?"
"I've been two steps behind an organization that abducts college kids throughout the US."
"How long have you been tracking them?"
"Three years, but this is the first time there's been an identifiable body."
"Do you think it's their work?"
"Maybe. It's definitely their type. Stressed-out, vulnerable kids. They're all from good families, making them low-risk for abduction. Young innocents are worth more money, but they're harder to lure, so they hold on to them for a longer period of time."
"How many victims are they holding at once?" you ask.
"That's hard to say, but from what I can tell, there's a lot of turnover." She sighs. "Customers don't want to see the same faces twice. We don't think they travel with more than a handful of victims at one time."
"Well, they hunt all over the country. All they need is a car. They might be low-tech, but they're organized and profitable."
"The rumor is that they hold events for two days in metropolitan areas and then they disappear."
"What kind of events?" Rossi asks.
"Events where top-paying customers can do things like this and worse to the victims. We study their behavior. They're not a good breed, but they're still human. They make a few mistakes. We've also recently established an undercover unit."
"How can you infiltrate them? Wouldn't your agents have to commit a crime to be accepted as a customer?" you wonder.
"Exactly. That's why we can't pose as buyers. The entire system is set up to protect the customers, but there's no way we can trace them from that end. It took a lot of hard work, but a few of my agents who are posing as targets have heard three names enough times to know that they're high on our list. Frank and Clarissa Emory and Robert Harget. It's just a rumor but I hear they dabble in targets a lot younger than Jake and Paige."
You frown when you hear those names. Why do those names sound so familiar? Come on, Y/N! It's on the tip of your tongue! It doesn't seem to matter how much you think about it, you can't remember where you know those names from.
"Do you have anybody under now?" Hotch asks.
"Locally a few. They're still establishing the backstories."
"They might be able to help."
"I'll call them."
Andi leaves to do just that but comes right back after she's done.
"This group needs space and solitude, especially if they're holding multiple victims. These two lived thousands of miles apart but were somehow both targeted," Ashley says.
"They send scouts to campuses, malls, clubs, etc."
"Yeah, they go with a shopping list, but rarely do they take more than one victim from a city," Andi says.
"The victims are assets. Why would the unsubs kill their profit?"
"Maybe the victims are escaping, or their clients are adapting. These clients are extremely depraved. When the act of sex isn't enough for them anymore, they may be demanding more extreme forms of release."
"Which was my fear," Andi sighs. "These two just proved it." she gets a call back from one of her agents and her face goes pale. "One of my UCs missed her last two check-ins."
Andi and Hotch leave to check on her agent while the rest of you stay behind. You explain to the rest of the group what you found at the crime scene and with the victims at the ME's office. The mud on the tires, the tools in the trunk, and the injuries on both victims. Penelope walks in and sets more than two dozen files on the desk.
"Here are missing people since 2009."
"Wow, okay, we still need to narrow this down. Let's look at last-known locations. Maybe there's an overlap," Ashley suggests.
"They're from all over the place."
"Okay, these guys hunt in target-rich environments like clubs and malls, right?"
"Wait," you say, "it rained south of here. Based on gas milage, Kyle must have filled up within seventy miles of the accident." You look at Penelope. "How many gas stations did you find?"
"Forty-two."
"How did you narrow that down?"
"I didn't."
"Why not?"
"I didn't have any more parameters."
"It's never stopped you before," Spencer says.
She pauses. "I'll be right back."
Andi's agent, Renee Matlin, is only twenty-five years old. She's still working on her cover so if she was taken, she has no weapon, no wire, and nothing to protect herself with. In Andi's guess, she probably asked the wrong person the right question. They had no indication that the group was in the area, so she might have been following her own lead.
Renee's cover is that she's a junior at George Mason University where she worked at the student union. Just a simple nine to five. She needs the weekends and nights to find these guys. Nothing ins on her home computer that Hotch can see, but Andi might have found something. Renee kept missing posters of multiple people, and only two of them had something written on the backs of them. "Crux" and "Club Prowl".
Her last check-in gave the green light, so something must have happened to her yesterday morning when she missed the first check-in. Hotch notices several magazines about fitness and running, but there isn't a single athletic shoe to be found in the apartment. She's an avid runner, so where is her gear? Even if she had been running when she was taken, she would have another pair of running shoes in her house.
Of those magazines, she marked a few upcoming marathons in DC. If that were the case and was training, she wouldn't have been alone. If she knew she was going undercover in a trafficking ring, she'd be stupid to run alone and at night. If she's training, she might be part of a running group that may or may not have met up yesterday morning when she would have gone out for a run.
"Okay, I'm getting lunch for all of us," you announce. "I can't keep looking at these papers or my head will split. My card is in my car, so I'm just going to run down to the parking garage for a second. Be right back."
You leave the office and take the stairs down to the parking garage instead of the elevator. The exercise keeps you from running your thoughts for miles. Still, you can't get Frank's name out of your mind. If you had to choose out of the three, it's Frank that you might know. Where would you have heard that name before? You've seen a lot of things and talked to a lot of people, so it's like finding a specific needle in a stack of regular needles.
Nearly impossible.
You push open the door and walk to your car with your nose buried in your phone. You're scrolling through DoorDash to see what the team would want for lunch when you feel it. It's too late by the time you feel it, but every single hair on the back of your neck stands up. Before you can turn around or see what's behind you through the reflection in the car windows, someone grabs you from behind.
Whoever it is puts pressure on your shoulder right in the place that's been sensitive all your life. If someone applies pressure hard enough, you'll be knocked out cold. Whoever this is knows this about you, and knocks you right out. Before you can hit the floor, the man grabs you and lays you gently on the ground.
Frank looks up and makes sure he isn't spotted by any cameras. The ones inside the place are at his back, so he keeps the black hood over his black cap to block out his face. He reaches for your phone and takes out the clone that his friend supplied him. He takes out a cord and plugs one side into his phone and the other side into yours. As his friend said, the cloning process begins immediately.
He brushes your hair away from your face and runs the back of his finger down your cheek. He hasn't been this close to you in a while, and he resists the very strong urge to pick you up and take you away. Focus, Frank! Follow the plan!Once the cloning process is done, he puts your phone back where he found it.
Every call and text you get will now be his.
He keeps his head down and leaves the parking garage, leaving you on the ground. Hotch calls Penelope from the house, and she answers it immediately.
"Garcia, find out everything you can about marathon training groups in Manassas and focus on any groups that fund-raise for cancer."
"Okay, will do." She hangs up and Derek walks into the room. "Hey."
"Any news on Renee?"
"None so far. I can't stop thinking about her. How do you think she got taken?"
"Well, knowing Swan, she hired somebody just like her. Driven."
"You know her?"
"We consulted a long time ago. Do you have any leads on the gas stations?"
"Seven, but the kind that sells this egg and cheese sandwich and Cramer's coffee... There's only one."
Spencer walks into the room and Derek looks around in confusion. "Kid, where's Y/N? We're going to visit the gas station."
"She ran to her car to grab her card. She said she was buying us lunch." Spencer looks at his watch and frowns. "That was forty-five minutes ago."
Derek and Spencer head down to the parking garage in hopes you left to get lunch instead. Spencer pauses when he sees you lying on the ground next to your car, eyes closed but breathing.
"Y/N!" Both men run over to you, and Spencer kneels next to you. "Oh, my God. Y/N!"
Derek is about to call for an ambulance when you groan and move your head to the right.
"What happened?"
With Spencer's help, you're able to sit up.
"That's what we're about to ask you. Can you stand?" Spencer and Derek help you stand even though your legs are shaking. "What happened to you?"
"I don't know. I... I came down here for my card. Someone grabbed me from behind. I didn't see who it was. I have a pressure point on my shoulder that when pressed hard enough, I'm knocked out."
"Are you okay? I should call an ambulance," Derek says.
"No, I'm okay. Really. I don't hurt. I don't ache. I don't know what this person wanted but I'm not hurt. I promise. We can ask Penelope to look at the cameras."
"Are you sure you're okay?" Derek asks.
"Yes, I'm fine. Really."
"Okay, Rossi and I have to get to the gas station. You stay here and work with Penelope."
"No, I want to go with you. Derek, I'm fine. I don't know what this person wanted or where this person is, but I'm not hurt." Derek and Spencer don't look convinced. "Look, the footage of whatever happened will be there when we're done. These women and Renee might not be, so we need to help them first."
"Fine," Derek sighs.
"I'm okay Spencer. I promise." You lean up and kiss him to further assure him. "I promise."
"We're looking at that footage when you get back."
"Okay."
