WAIT WAIT WAIT
IDK IF I CAN ARTICULATE THIS RIGHT BUT I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING
So there's a whole theme of Sherlock being on a completely different level from everyone else, right? The only people who have EVER been able to match him, to operate on the same level, at the same speed, are his own brother and his now-dead archenemy. He's completely adamant that he isn't like "ordinary" people.
But then in Sign of Three, when he's talking to Sholto through the door-
"Mr Holmes, you and I are similar, I think."
"Yes, I think we are."
We haven't seen anything to indicate that Sholto is on the same level as Sherlock, Mycroft, and Moriarty. Not to say he isn't smart, he's just.. not like them. No one is. But we DO know that John and Sholto have history (Mary's "neither of us were the first" line makes that pretty clear).
When Sholto's talking about a "proper time to die," Sherlock says "Of course, but not at John's wedding. We wouldn't do that, would we? You and me? We'd never do that to John Watson."
Which means that Sherlock "no one is like me" Holmes, the man whose sense of self has always been ENTIRELY centered on his nearly-unmatchable intelligence, sees his love for John as enough of a defining factor that maybe he CAN be like other people after all.
Anyway I need to go scream into a pillow now
sees his love for John as enough of a defining factor that maybe he CAN be like other people after all.
YES. THIS. John introduces a human element to him and his interactions that is just so ASDFGAHJKHKDSAFLKDS to me. From his speech;
John, I am a ridiculous man [John nods], redeemed only by the warmth and constancy of your friendship.
and
today you sit between the woman you have made your wife and the man you have saved; in short, the two people who love you most in all this world.
Which really does combine so nicely with their earlier;
John Watson: And I want to be up there with the two people that I love and care about most in the world. Sherlock Holmes: Yes. John Watson: Mary Morstan. Sherlock Holmes: Yes. John Watson: And... you.
ALSO. It is possible that Sherlock relates to Sholto's suicidal ideation. "You and I are similar" during a scene where the common theme between the three people (excluding John of course) in attendance is suicide, death, and love for John Watson. I can't quote directly, but
"We wouldn't do that to John Watson."
"The man you have saved"
This combined with the overall theme during this episode of change, Sherlock being afraid of John leaving, one could even tie all this in with the Redbeard element which calls back to Sherlock's childhood and childhood fears...
I know that it's pretty clear Sherlock saved John by giving him purpose again, but what about John saving Sherlock? What about that?

You were typing on your computer. A lump had formed in your throat. A naive and out of place comment had escaped you. Stupid, in short. A stupid comment. He had glared at you, his fingers had abruptly stopped their activity and his words were scathing towards you. A well-argued comment on why what you had said made no sense. It was cold and with a certain cruel mockery behind it. You decided not to say anything else. You just swallowed and decided to ignore the annoyed glances of the others.
Suddenly, one of your colleagues ridiculed you in front of everyone else, mocking your slip cruelly. Your boyfriend, who had previously brutally corrected you in front of the others, looked at the man who had ridiculed you with anger and palpable annoyance. He ordered them to leave the room and never come back.
No one but him could dare to correct you. You were his.

The Mystery of the Missing Blood Stone
It is with both curiosity and a slight sense of… apprehension that I recount the case of the missing ruby stone, or “Blood Stone”—an intriguing mystery Sherlock and I desperately needed after the relatively quiet holiday season. Like last year, Sherlock, Rosie, and I visited Sherlock’s parents, and, like last year, the warmth and laughter brought by the visit mended old pain within me. Although our mini-break from London was everything the three of us needed, spending the days cooped up inside made Sherlock feel… agitated and snappy. So, I was quite relieved when an interesting client called early on the morning of the third of January.
Tumblr media
A wealthy antiquities dealer named Edgar Thornbrook sought our help. Thornbrook, a man whose business was built on the acquisition of rare and valuable relics, was in a panic. His most prized possession—the Blood Stone—had vanished overnight from a secure, locked cabinet in his private study. The room showed no signs of forced entry. Sherlock only took the case because Thornbrook didn’t want the stone back—no. The esteemed man just wanted to live to see another day, and would compensate us greatly to offer him his safety. Thornbrook believed his days were numbered and that his obsession with the Blood Stone would be his undoing.
The Blood Stone, according to many stories, is surrounded by mystery and superstition. If I recall correctly, in various cultural myths, the Blood Stone is said to possess healing properties or even the ability to influence fate or luck. “Nonsense,” according to Sherlock. To him, the stone was “just a ruby,” a symbolic gem “too unworthy for a wedding ring,” bearing mere “industrial usage.” But I must admit, I was intrigued by its alleged properties, especially because our client believed his own interest in the stone had led to his downfall.
From the outset, Sherlock was fascinated—not by the object itself, but by the circumstances surrounding its disappearance. It seemed too neat, too calculated. We found nothing in the shop except for some red dust.
Tumblr media
Upon closer examination, Sherlock @artofdeductionbysholmes discovered a rare, distinctive chemical compound in the dust and recalled encountering the same compound in the sealing wax used to “repackage” stolen goods to make them appear legitimate. That discovery was odd, to say the least. Was this distinguished antiquarian dealing in stolen goods?
Interviewing the owners of the shops on Thornbrook’s street also led us to believe that the antiquarian kept shady company. The shop had been closed for three weeks before the stone’s disappearance, and many recalled seeing Thornbrook at the shop, acting stressed—frantic, even. Some mentioned “shadowy figures” lingering in the street, prompting Sherlock to enlist The Network to track these individuals down.
We were led to a dangerous organized group operating within the underworld. Thornbrook’s accumulated wealth and high-society connections made him a tempting target for those looking to exploit individuals with significant and valuable assets. The antiquarian’s own ambitions, however, played a key role in his predicament. His obsession with acquiring increasingly rare and “powerful” artifacts—coupled with his desire for even greater wealth and influence—blinded him to the possible dangers. He became increasingly willing to bend his morals in pursuit of these treasures. This, of course, made him susceptible to the underworld’s allure.
The antiquarian was drawn into the criminals’ network and received “protection” at a cost. Gradually, Thornbrook became entangled in illegal transactions and shady deals. However, by “losing” the stone, he also lost his leverage and protection.
Sherlock and I didn’t find the stone, unfortunately. But we did uncover proof of the existence of the organization in which Thornbrook was ensnared. Although the antique shop is now closed and Thornbrook has been placed in witness protection, Sherlock and I remain on the lookout for the stone’s—and thus the network’s—reappearance.

Hungerford Bridge
"John? Are you awake?"
"Nnnnnghhh?"
"Are you awake?"
"Ugh. Nah."
"I need you to be awake, John."
"Wassup?"
"I need you to – no, don't move your head like that. It's going to hurt."
"Ow!"
"See? Now, listen. I need you to sit up as soon as you can. But you have to move slowly."
"Wha'?"
"No sudden movement, and especially no uncontrolled flailing of your left arm or – Yeah, exactly! Christ. Settle down. That's it. Lean against the thwart."
"The wha'?"
"The thwart. The bench. The thing people sit on in a small boat."
"Wha' boat?"
"It would help if you opened your eyes, John."
"Wha's happened? Still dark…"
"Two forty-four a. m., approximately."
"Whassat noise?"
"Do you mean the waves lapping gently against the hull, or the ringing in your head from being knocked unconscious by a brute wielding a cricket bat?"
"Ah… don't remember that."
"I'd be surprised if you did. He caught you in the head on the backswing when you popped up behind him to take him down before he could hit me. I really appreciated the gesture, though. Not your fault you failed to grasp my clever – "
"Chris' sake, Sherlock, shut up and get outta my face, or I'll - "
"Warn me if you're going to be seasick, please. I'm sure we can coordinate a bout of emesis over the side, should the need arise."
"I said get outta – Argh!"
"No flailing, remember?"
"I'm not flailing, I'm – what the fuck is – "
"That would be your right wrist handcuffed to my left wrist. I was just going to explain that there's a perfectly valid reason for our close physical proximity, or me being in your face, as you please to call it."
"That's not your – "
"No, that's the rowlock."
"The what?"
“The rowlock. A metal contraption attached to the washstrake above the gunwale for the purpose of holding the oars in place. This one is unfortunately designed in a peculiar fashion that allows one half of a pair of handcuffs to be threaded through the opening in the middle, so as to – Don't pull, John. It's solid stainless steel and fibreglass. I tried, it's no use."
"We're chained to a boat?"
"We're chained to a boat that's afloat on the River Thames on the ebb tide, with neither oar nor engine to control or direct our progress downriver, on a cold night at a quarter to three in the morning. I might also mention the absence of any life jackets or radio equipment, but I suppose that goes without saying."
"Fuck."
“Accurate. Are you awake enough now so we can start doing something about the situation?"
(This got way too long for Tumblr. Please read the rest of the story here on AO3!)

En  La  Plaza  del  Pueblo,  Ingyu  dijo  "  El  silencio  aquí  no  es  natural  "     *   @nohgyu
Tumblr media
