tbh i really do struggle to understand how the treatment of trans kids is any different than the treatment of gnc cis kids bc ime, it's the same. i have trans siblings and myself am trans right? and my observation is we got the same exact shit that gnc cis kids did but the main difference is our parents never punished us for it and since we never went to public school, we were able to be extremely nonconformist without the same level of social shame/pressures that many gnc kids experience that temper their nonconformity as they grow. what i find interesting is we only came out as trans after each one of us was "introduced" to society & rigid gender roles personally, whether that a stint in public school or starting college. even now we dont fit our preferred gender's roles either, existing between the binary in presentation and action

kaimana's very extroverted; she has a ton of friends and is sort of known as the campus "social butterfly." she's like what cater is pretending to be, but she's fully genuine through it all. kaimana loves to express herself, as seen with her HIGHLY customized uniform HAHA (btw. ik her skirt is rlly short. its intentional!! she rolls it up rlly high cus she thinks its cute!!)

all that being said, kaimana is FRIGHTENINGLY intelligent. she has photographic memory and can remember things from years ago with extreme detail. many who first see her assume that she isn't capable, but looking at the academic charts, kaimana is constantly topping them. she's very forgiving, but she doesn't ever forget.(she holds grudges can u tell)

on top of that, her eyesight is VERY good.

kaimana became friends with my other oc, morwenna veil, shortly after morwenna came to NRC. she calls her 'mormor' and morwenna HAAATES IT

kaimana, as a cuttlefish, can actually shift her haircolor and skin to show different colors and patterns!

so, kaimana's unique magic is called "Towards the Light." kaimana will flash different patterns back and forth, quickly hypnotizing the recipient. the recipient will then feel a strong pull towards kaimana, and they will begin rapidly walking to her. kaimana has perfected this spell to the point that she can hold someone under her control for days on end.

random thought bc i was making alphyne sims LOL, do you think undyne would ever want to have children? how do you think she’d be as a parent?

While I personally don't quite have a "definite yes" or "definite no" answer for this I personally think that, yeah, possibly! I think it's a question with a lot of layers to it, "is it something the character would want?" "Is it something the character should do?" "How much thought would the character put into it all beforehand?" "How long would the character wait before making that choice?" And first of all I think I should talk about fandom culture's view on kids in general. Why? Because I'm obsessed with validating my opinions like this

It's been said many times by many people now how there are a lot of times where fans end up writing completely out of character for the purpose of placing characters into positions of stereotypical familial structures- ESPECIALLY forcing women into the roles of motherhood where it doesnt fit or make sense for them to the point where I don't think I can really add anything substantial or important to the topic. The pros have very much said what needs to be said.

HOWEVER. I ALSO LIKE TO HAVE FUN WITH FUCKING CHARACTERS. I LIKE TO EXPLORE DIFFERENT TOPICS AND SITUATIONS WITH THEM. I WANT PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO SHAMELESSLY ENJOY THEIR RIGHT TO INTERPRET CHARACTERS WHERE THEY THINK NESCECARY. WHERE THEY THINK FUCKING FUN!!!

So with that said, while demeaning female characters to singular sad and one dimensionsional traits of "Mother" is very clearly to me Not A Good Thing, people should stop acting like it's a fucking sin to imagine the possibility of a character having a child while still retaining all their accurate attributes, because it is a very possible thing that can be and IS done!!!!!

Where do I BEGIN. How about the inspirations behind the character of undyne herself.

Ok so see this wonderful lass here. That's a sculpture by Chauncey Ives of the mythical water spirit, Undine. Thinking about it, you all probably know this anyway because I do fairly often reblog Undine themed stuff too. Because I'm just like this. But how about the interesting stuff?

The original myth, created by Paracelsus, an alchemist and philosopher born in the 1400s, I believe comes from his work "A Book on Nymphs, Sylphs, Pygmies, and Salamanders, And Kindered Spirits". I think that's what it was called. I'm too tired to talk fully about it specifically and we need to get to the point so have a video of some guy reading it here

It's pretty much what it says. Paracelsus essentially believed that elemental beings (whom he had adapted and reimagined from ancient or traditional at the time sources) were simply part of the strangeness of God's natural creation and should be studied, as part of appreciation of the Bible etc. And we know ALL ABOUTTTTT utdr and its biblical links/imagery. But back to undine :]

Paracelsus named his takes on the classic concept of elementals: gnomes for earth (YES HE INVENTED THE WORD GNOME!!!!!), sylphs for air (yeah he also invented the word sylph), salamanders for fire (he didn't invent that :[), and of COURSE! UNDINES FOR WATER! He believed undines to be fairly similar to humans, a significant difference being the lack of a soul. Which surely means nothing when talking about Souls Are Important the Video Game. And anyways according to him they were apparently fairly capable of getting a soul through love. Wikipedia also says that Paracelsus says that a child from this love will too have a soul which is nice

Blablabla Wikipedia says undines are like fucking desperate to get a husband or whatever but dudeeeee she can do whatever she fucking wantssssss. I think she can and should be enjoying her life with alphys rather than it being a thing just for a living soul or whatever. They're just happy, no mythology attached

Onto the most iconic interpretation of the myth, 1811s Undine by Friedrich De La Motte Fouque. When you think of the tale of Undine it's almost always that it's this specific story you pull from. Apart from another one I'll briefly touch on later (please hope it's brief). In it, Undine is a woman adopted by a fisherman, who was taken in by the fisherman after his own child died. Hmmmmm wow hmm sort of like how asgore took in undyne after his children died HM BACK ON TOPIC. Personality-wise, Undine is described by Wikipedia (because I don't have the book) as "erratic", and "capricious", which Google dictionary describes as "given to sudden and unaccountable changes of mood or behaviour", which again sounds quite similar to the Undyne we all know and love.

It mentions that when married to Huldbrand (the main guy in the book he's not important tho) she is "kind and gentle" and yeah imo the writing with this IS kinda shit HOWEVER I think if were simply using this as inspiration for undyne I can definitely imagine her *eventually* becoming a calmer and more thoughtful person with A: the presence of someone like alphys to mutually love and understand her for her and B: the absence of having to worry about a war to fight and always sort of being on edge and just being. Like that. And again this would all be a *progressive experience*, rather than in the book where undine literally switches up over night. I do like to consider character and stuff

Sorry back to cherry picking the story to fit undyne.

Ok so truthfully I don't find anything else from that specific story that I find particularly helpful to undyne, the rest of it's kinda just useless to my point. Re-establishing the fact here that I skipped over a most of the actual significant parts of the story because I specificly want to talk about how I see it parallel to undyne. But that's it really. I just especially wanted to mention this adaptation of the story as it is pretty much the most iconic interpretation of the myth.

That is, interpretations that specifically refer to its source by name. Because by far the most well known media to draw influence from the myth of undine is the iconic Hans Christian Andersen fairytale, "The Little Mermaid". I don't have much to say on how the little mermaid does take much inspiration from undine, other than the way andersen himself interpreted the story. Simply, the fact that Hans Christian Andersen, a man who based this story off of his own feelings at the inability for another man to reciprocate feelings of romance for him, and resonated with the story of undine so much that it was a source of inspiration for the little mermaid itself is so crazy to me. Like. Here is a queer man who read the tale of Undine and understood it so much he wrote his own story inspired by it and made it tie in with his own experiences of homosexuality! Like that's so crazy to me! Because it just makes the undertale character of undyne being sapphic so much better to me! It took the sad story of gay tragedy and took it and made it a story of gay joy!!!!!!! We are all so happys forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok ummmm. I got carried away because we are steering very far away from what this post was originally about. Umm. Point is. Original story was of queer sadness but undertale is now of queer joy + the story of queer joy being based on story where being with this person who you really love and being truly and properly bonded in an undeniable and magical way is enough to give you a soul that will live forever. I think that's somewhere near the point I'm trying to make but at the same time it's not quite the point I was trying to make. And this is absolutely just one interpretation of one relationship and this is by no means in any way supposed to be the end all be all of what ANY relationship should be. I really don't think this is what the definition of love is. However for these characters I feel it can be a huge aspect of it for them

Oh undyne. With some of the implications in game that she lost her family, I very much imagine her being cautious with this sort of situation. Would she be able to handle is for example? Would she know what to do. Given its something she might not even have real first hand experience of, is it something she would even want to risk forcing upon another person? I think she struggles so much with responsibility as it is. She wants nothing more than to protect people and cheesus if she had a kid of her own you know she would be doing every single thing in her power to make sure that kid never has to face what she did. Undyne says at one point in game (if you kill her in neutral i believe) she never told alphys the way she felt because if/when she died in battle, she wouldn't want alphys to deal with that. And again, she really would not want to have a kid if she worries that one day that kid would have to worry about someone they truly care about not being with them anymore

So *would* she want them? I don't really think it would be an overwhelming innate desire or anything like that, but really not against it. Sged need a lot of time beforehand first. Some time to live her life to the fullest, time to make sure it's something she can handle without guilt, time to make sure it's something that does bring her joy. And then yeah, 6 or 7 years minimum I can see it happening. And I think it would be nice

Because she doesn't have a good home life to the point where she's like just Not Safe and hm young couple with no children in her area? Undyne would want to help her soooo bad because she understands just what it feels like to be young and alone not really cared for and she would NEED to fix it. That's defo how it is for undertale at LEAST. Idk entirely with dr if it'd be exactly like that cause we don't know what undynes got going down in dr yet.. but even so that's nothing to stop them

okay basically i think the list of various failures in alec and taylor's potential friendship is like this

immediately upon meeting alec is disaffected and socially backgrounded + indirect in a way that makes it less likely for him to connect with taylor (bullying victim who assumes she's being cringed at unless very clearly proven otherwise). she doesn't dislike him & she considers him to be one of her New Friends, but she does not know him very well, and she has a few moments of thinking things like..."is he making fun of me here"/"am i being dumb and lame" while she's interacting with him, bc she's incompatible with his style of irony and detachment. he doesnt make her feel Unwelcome, and hes in fact trying pretty hard to be welcoming, but they just dont click in the same way as taylor and brian or taylor and lisa, and hes not as good at dissuading her social anxieties as e.g. brians niceness.

they just incidentally don't spend a lot of time together (e.g. being split up on the abb raid), and when they do, their personalities usually continue to bounce off each other in a way that prevents longer conversations. like when alec asks if taylor made a pun on purpose and shes like ?? and hes like lol nvm. hes just not trying hard enough when his initial forays fail.

when alec first talks about who his father is, taylor is just like. very much a Normal Kid about it. she doesn't Get It. she doesnt parse heartbreaker's kids as being in the category of 'victims,' and when alec talks casually about being forced to commit murders, his alarmingly cool reaction is what she processes--the whole part where he says "i convinced myself i didn't care" goes in one ear and out the other. she walks away from the convo not really having processed or analyzed that alec is obviously Really Fucked Up over it & consequently doesn't hold much sympathy or grace for him & his odd behaviors

on a similar note, prior to this, they do talk past each other in the fugly bobs convo, with neither really being capable of understanding where the other is coming from morally or mentally

his fate as the one taylor judges for being immoral is pretty sealed when he doesn't give a fuck about dinah...while taylor does feel betrayed by all of the other undersiders choosing to stick with coil, we see how brian at least has more coherent and sympathetic moral reasoning--he Needs this for his sister. alec is just like "yeah so i dont really care im used to this." combined with her previous qualms about his past, her inability to notice that Dudes Got Fucking Problems, and her general lack of bonding with him/lack of seeing sympathetic traits in him, this kind of permanently puts her off on him, even when she rejoins the team later. and she also just does not spend a lot of time sitting around thinking about alec, so one specific perception of him is largely cemented. and that perception is only strengthened later by, like, the whole kidnapping/enslaving victor(nazi not lavere) + shatterbird thing. by the time alec is obliviously talking about his trauma over breakfast, the least generous possible reading is her default one

Also. another thing regarding morality im always harping on with them is. alec is actually quite similar with taylor in some ways. when it comes to being a villain as a way of taking eye-for-an-eye rage out on the nearest justifiable target, or being really good at alarming cold anger, or being horribly casual about horrible violence...they can come off as externally quite similar. i think that part of her refusal to grant him interiority is eventually because, like. if she has to admit that alec has sympathetic/understandable reasons for being the way he is despite how horrifying he can be, then she may also have to process that, despite her sympathetic/understandable reasons for what she does, she can still be horrifying.

and i do think they're Narrative Foils where taylor morally decays as alec improves. but her perception of his morality is still fixed, and it becomes inaccurate at a certain point in his development. so it leads to really funny scenes where shes literally being Worse than him but is still talking in her head about how evil he is and how she needs to stop him from being evil. we love you taylor.

im not sure where exactly you could intervene in this process & change something to make them get along better...what i was trying to convey yesterday is my opinion that even if they never had interactions that raised her moral qualms, i still don't think they would end up close, just because their personalities don't really lend themselves to super emotionally or intellectually intimate interactions. and i also just don't think they come off as very compatible for hanging out, like i don't know if they would Have Fun on a friend date.

i feel like the most likely circumstance for making their relationship closer is like...if taylor doesn't find out about the shit that would give her moral pause until much later, and they're also forced into some kind of circumstance where they need to rely on each other and just spend some time talking. i do feel like alec having a moment of real emotional vulnerability would help a lot, but i just don't think he does those in a way taylor would parse as being vulnerable!! like, his defense mechanism is to pretend he Doesnt Give A Fuck, and i think taylor just falls for that. like hes not like rachel where she decks taylor but shes also visibly suffering really hard on a regular basis. he always tries to act like hes just chilling. ok thats my textwall i hope everyone likes it

hatice:helaena—both got married to a man they didn't love(hatice's first marriage was to a much older man, against her wish), both got cheated on by their husbands, both are treated as the nice innocent members by their families while the others also dismiss their opinions more often than not, helaena's prophecies and hatice's fear of ibrahim's statues and if u want to be insane her nightmare abt nigar even if both were her being paranoid she still turned out to be right and their tragic fates could also be compared to one another in a way. them both losing children in tragic ways as well.

ibrahim:daemon—so this one's pretty obvious to me. both are warriors and want(ed) to die in battle serving their rulers, both have ambitions(daemon wanting to be the king and ibrahim's im the tamer and lion is the sultan speech), both have their own insecurities, want a place to belong, both are ruthless, both had mistresses(daemon with mysaria and ibrahim with nigar) etc. its not a 100% correct comparison bc daemon is of the royal family and ibrahim came as a slave but still.

aemond:bayezid—men children playing war experts, short tempers, brother complex, overlooked, anger issues etc.

aegon:selim—so while aegon was portrayed so badly selim somehow came out looking like an amazing man in comparison they are both alcoholics who didn't want their duty but ended up accepting it after being pushed into it and even fighting to prove themselves capable for the challenge.

sah:rhaenys—both these women stand on business!! both married to powerful men(even if lutfi is the grossest nastiest man in the show and im forever his biggest hater). just how sah knew mihrimah was to blame for esmahan falling rhaenys blamed rhaenyra and daemon for their children dying and uhm that scene of sah killing hurrem's servant for writing a fake letter and rhaenys burning smallfolk who were rooting for aegon always comes to mind. both have that brilliant i see through your bullshit look and cunning energy also

rhaena:cihangir—both are overlooked by their families, one for a lack of a dragon and the other for his disability. it's not the perfect comparison obviously but just like rhaena might feel inadequate to her sister who actively participates in supporting rhaenyra's claim while she can't do much to help, cihangir feels inadequate to his brothers despite loving them greatly.

mehmed: daeron the daring—courteous and gentlest among all of their brothers and daeron was described as someone more likely to follow the orders than give them. and just like hotd forgot his existence 2 seasons in the show mc writers gave mehmed minimum character development and complex traits because why not.

baela: aybige hatun— baela was wild, willing and fearless and considered herself more boyish than lady like. just like aybige she loved riding AND they both got engaged/married to their relatives who happen to be brunettes.

alicent: mihrimah. okay but hear me out!! both are women of noble birth who got manipulated into marrying older nasty men, both rock that power walk, both are sort of binded to the tradition and serving the releam/empire, both tend to go to weird disgusting men when in need of an aid(alicent with larys i think and mihrimah with rustem. ugh). and they both prioritize their family above everything and there's alicents affair with criston and mihrimahs attraction to bali bey and pedro also.

at the same time, alicent has parallels with both hurrem(the knife scene, slaying in green sjjejdj, explaining to their children that they're the challenge for the throne etc) mahidevran(following the patriarchal system and getting shocked when it doesnt serve them tho for alicent i blame this more on the terrible writing and that sense of self righteousness) as well so it could be whichever.

hurrem: rhaenyra? again, im conflicted on this one. just like rhaenyra was named the first female ruler hurrem became the sultan's lawful wife, hurrem was called a witch and rhaenyra cruel, just like how hurrem is mistreated by valide rhaenyra IS mistreated by alicent, in a way both fight to change the system etc. i could also totally see hurrem and nyra bonding just over talking about their favorite foods.

that being said there's also one glaring similarity between her and mustafa and it's them both being heirs and therefore threats to their brothers lives/those brothers being threats to their own lives as well

hiiii thanks for the ask!! :D im gonna do eadmund and leofflaed bc um. theyre fun :3 just for reference bc we only became mutuals recently & i dont talk abt them thag much i think this all takes place in like a hand-wavy historical fantasy setting based primarily off like 1000-1200 AD england but also i do what i want with the setting its not any specific historical kingdom and i do diverge from history as is most fun to me lol

ok so for ead and leof they met as VERY small children because they were arranged to be married from, like, infancy, so their first impressions and their earliest remembered impressions are different lol. when they were like three or whatever and leof and her family moved into eadmund's family's castle, eadmund was incredibly grumpy and disliked leof because he didnt like the thought of new people in the castle, and leof was Also not thrilled because ead was so standoffish to her 😭 they dont remember this tho.

if you were to ask canon-era ead for a first impression of leof, he'd say something about her standing up for him to their shared tutors-- if you asked leof, she'd say something about how she resented being made to marry and not having a choice in it. she liked ead a lot both because they got along rlly well and because he would be easy to manipulate one day, but she resented the necessity of the manipulation because of the part where they got along well.

in canon, they're very close. leof admires ead's wit and, uh. can-do attitude (if she were sisyphus shed be convinced she could get the boulder to the top of the hill via tools and engineering, its just the kind of person she is). ead admired leof's refusal to take no for an answer and fierce insistence that she be treated as an equal at WORST if not a better at times depending on the context. the queen is expected to sit quietly by the king's side, but leof's voice is heard loud and clear on every issue she has a take on and ead really appreciates that. they both trust each other a lot-- very much an "if you're here i know everything will turn out fine and if it doesnt we can handle it" situation

this one's really hard actually. maybe when leof's dad died, or when ead was sent abroad for the first time. gun to my head, though, it's probably gotta be an incident shortly before ead dies. ((fantasy) catholic) god sends her on a quest to kill a dragon, and leof tries to get her to bring wulfwynn, whos a better fighter than both of them combined. ead knows god wouldnt ask something of her that she isnt capable of, but she also knows exactly how dangerous such a journey is, to say nothing of the fight at the end. they have a massive fight right before ead leaves. ead comes back triumphant, but barely, and ends up on death's door shortly after. she asks leof to kill her and take the crown, its a whole thing. but that fight haunts both of them for the rest of their very brief and very long respective lives.

to rant a bit abt the "personal narrative" of shintaro. i think it's interesting that shintaro is essentially a very self centered character and kagepro is very meta in the way it treats him as a main character. because inside of kagepro, he really gets as much focus as any other character, they're all "main" character to us. its rather inside the story he plays a very important role therefore he is the protagonist and as the protagonist he puts an end to the story itself too. i think this is all interesting together and fun to dissect shintaro's character as inherently self centered because that's what the story is. the initial premise is that he's a depressed guy living in regret he used to be "such a bad person" to someone he cared deeply about.

his self centeredness shows not only in the way he acts even without retaining activated, but he is really in the center of it. shintaro IS the protagonist and deep down even if he hasn't remembered yet, he knows that. so does everyone else. they all know they depend on him, sooner or later.

and i like to think of all this in a post str context thinking that the way he handles all that in everyday life once this story is over and theyre free from a narrative in the first place, is self destructive because its not compatible to being a normal person. he's a protagonist but there's nothing to be a protagonist OF anymore

so it IS taking him a bit to really LOOK at his friends and stop looking only for himself. technically he's lived a hundred doomed lives and now he's here trying out this one and again it is scary and new and... ene, who's been the most dedicated to centering her life around shintaro, is a clear safe place while navigating this.

he takes takane totally for granted because of this. in the narrative she has always been his sidekick. she has been the second main character to him. she has always lived and served him in all timelines, in all the time theyve known each other that she can't remember and he can, takane has been more ene than she's been takane to him, and ene has always been his annoying lap dog he hates as much as he needs in order for the story to move forward. takane of course reciprocrates the dynamic because it's also all she's known for a year. but... it's a year, vs. shintaro's God Knows How Many resets.

so eventually... as she is free from the narrative and very much her own person outside of him, capable of finding love and priorities somewhere else away from him and OUT LOUD tackling issues like hey we have a codependent dynamic going on we should work on, bc she does normal people stuff like going to therapy, takane moves on. which is mind blowing for shintaro AND HE DOESNT LIKE IT

he shuns it completely whenever takane brings it up, which she does a lot as time goes on. because time keeps going on. it keeps passing by. and everyone around him seems to be growing up and that's so infuriating and so terrifying and then stuff like ayano dating him and dumping him is as much of a reality check as ayano being alive in the first place, and he doesn't know what to do with it other than cry and thrive off the attention takane gives him again upon seeing him broken again.

he's in PAIN but it's familiar. it's comfortable. it's classic. it works. because the story he was a protagonist of was a tragedy, so he doesn't know how to behave when there is hope in the future. ❤️

This has been a long time coming - it's been nearly a year of back and forth. Nearly a year of glaring, of snide comments and sneering remarks as they're forced together 'for the good of the kingdom'. But it's still intense. Nerves are getting the better of them, their anxiety is through the roof. The stress that they're going to fuck up somehow is making them worried and frustrated and they're snapping at each other even more than usual. If Lo'ak messes up, it's going to be proof to him and his parents (and the entire kingdom) that he will never be as good as his brother, and he hates that he can't even go one day without being compared to Neteyam. If Princess messes up, her life is over. Lo'ak would be upset if he messed up, but he would be okay. But she's a woman, and worse - she's a woman trying to maintain a position of power. Ideal primeval fixit for funsies except it's crazy involved - not that I don't love the series as is, but in an IDEAL scenario where everybody lives (except for the villains of course) this is what it would look like ok

S2- Stephen and nick actually talk and work things out (starting with or including that Stephen was Helen's *student* when the affair happened, nick decides he's blaming Stephen because he's the one who's there and it isn't fair, Stephen angsts, nick angsts, etc.) BUT! Helen and leek's plans still unfold similarly - tho idk about Stephen believing Helen that it's Lester who's the issue, but he does believe some things she tells him, or at least enough to lead to the same scenario where it's Helen, nick, and Stephen facing the room that they can't lock full of creatures (and I'm going to go with, the creatures can enter that room via one-way doors in the facility, once they're in the only way out is through the door our heroes and villain are facing, bc otherwise it makes no sense but I digress).

Nick and Stephen still ended up at odds again prior to this, and nick still volunteers to sacrifice himself, and Stephen still is the one to lock himself in the room, expecting to die. This is vital. BUT! For fixit funsies, he doesn't die. Maybe he's badly wounded and the arc soldiers arrive and kill the rest of the creatures and pull him to safety, and so then he's in a coma or in the hospital at least for a while. Or maybe an anomoly appears in the room and stephen goes through it, and maybe nick does or doesnt see it, and theres something of Stephen's left in the room thar they bury thinking hes dead. Anyway, whatever happens, he survives and the time before hes back/up and moving is long enough to allow for nick to angst away and the team to develop the way they do going into s3. Yay!

S3- okay, so! Two options, one is Increase The Angst, the other is Fixit. For Nick's death. But I still want connor's character development and angst and the team development to happen the way it does due to Nick's death. So! (the angsty option is Stephen was thought to have died but went thru an anomaly, comes back but only after nick dies at Helen's hands. Feels. And then maybe Stephen and Danny go after Helen together, (leaving connor in Abby's capable hands as per canon). Or maybe Stephen stays with Becker and Sarah, so Sarah doesn't die because they have extra backup? Maybe Stephen dies for real to save someone, idk.) The fixit version is...let's go with, Stephen did escape via anomaly, nick saw but then the anomaly closes and he's not sure if Stephen will make it back ever... onwards to s3, Helen shoots nick, and leaves without the artifact, but the shot isn't fatal, besides blood loss, though nick doesn't know bc he still feels like he's dying. Connor does sink down and sit next to him and cry and accept the responsibility nick gives him. He gets up and carries nick out.

And the medic finds nick is still alive, and connor angsts about that like if nick dies bc he sat there with him too long he won't forgive himself - but nick doesn't die. He does end up laid up in the hospital and actually doesn't regain consciousness right away. Thus, events of s3 follow as in canon, though with visits to nick in the hospital while nick is in a coma or whatever, and is functionally not there, lots of angsty fun feels for connor and co, yes. Anyway at some pt Stephen comes back, surprise! Nick wakes up in a funny twist of timing and they get to hug or whatever. Yay! Meanwhile - I think Helen assumes nick is dead, actually, maybe they have him in hospital under a false name or something, anyway so they continue to let her believe that, and I mean she did still very much shoot him intending to kill, so. Not really lying about how angry they are at her.

Anyway, so I'm going to say Jenny doesn't leave the arc, bc I understand why she did, but maybe she just leaves fieldwork, or maybe she does leave but she stays in contact with the team anyway. But she's not among the team who go after Helen, she's visiting nick at the hospital (he's in recovery still) with stephen when it goes down, and connor, Danny and Abby get stuck on time chasing Helen as per canon, while Sarah and Becker do their thing. Lester asks/Stephen decides to be backup for those two, leaving nick and Jenny to worry. Sarah isn't killed, in fact none of them die. Yay!

S4- well, because nick is still alive and around, slowly goes back to work, and Stephen is back, and Sarah isn't killed, the arc isn't shut down. But Burton does offer help from private sector, and nick doesn't know he's sus obviously, and in general it's seen as a decent idea bc more funding would go a long way towards nick and sarah's work in mapping+ predicting anomalies, and towards having more staff and a larger team now it's just the 4 of them, Jenny I think does leave the team but does stay in contact and does help by crafting cover stories for Lester and the team to employ. Jess is hired bc they need a computer expert and the work she does is suggested, which works out great.

The suggestions to stick to military trained individuals for future hiring for *field members* is also accepted, despite protests from nick. They're all grandfathered in, but he still protests. Stephen is on the fence, but it does get approved. Matt Anderson is hired, which does result in some contention aka posturing nonsense between him and nick, and him and Becker. But nick likes the EMDs, he's still against killing the creatures unless it can't be avoided, so that and Matt's care for the creatures that live at the arc in the menagerie (which is much bigger and better than in s4 canon!) Get nick on board with Matt as one team lead. There's a sort of fluid, flexible chain of hierarchy between nick and matt... hm. (Yknow let's throw in Taylor 'ain't baggage' and Ben 'it's a dinosaur!' Who are maybe now old enough to join the team? Ben went into paleontology, he's hired as a non-field member of the arc. Taylor went into the military briefly but idk ends up with a side focus on tracking and animal behavior bc of Stephen. Yay, funsies? So she's in the field team? Idk Ok.)

Anyway! So things are not quite as strict and weird as in canon s4, when Abby and connor make it back. Nick and Stephen and sarah are there too, not only Becker. And so things do go a bit differently but I imagine Burton does still try to push them out? But everyone disagrees with him this time bc conby should be grandfathered in too, obvs, even Matt agrees. So Burton backs down. Burton mainly avoids nick bc he knows nick would figure things out. But he does notice connor is bright but also idealistic and sort of...prone to trusting? Even tho with nick still alive it isn't as much of a thing where he sees Burton as a sort of replacement for Nick's presence in his life yknow, but still he does influence him, convinces him to do some work for him at new dawn, he does try and split up abby and connor bc together they're unstoppable and Abby is very much not trusting and notices things.

So some things end up going similarly to canon. S5- yay Still angsty. Lots of things stay the same but other things go differently, lots of drama and excitement. Emily yay, Jenny's wedding yay (maybe they knew she was getting married but weren't invited?? Or they were but anomalies are crazy, and they don't put 2 and 2 together abt the wedding venue and the anomaly call until they bump into jenny there.) And danny back yay. Etc. Maybe at some pt they believe nick is killed by Burton or by connor's anomaly or something, so we can still have the angst in the future bunker? Idk. Anyway happy ending and no 2nd Matt from another future.

(And also if primeval new world happens it would go totally differently in this au, much less grimdark and twisty, probably, and idk I don't think the arc team would've managed to cover up the anomalies again after convergence... unless pnw takes place *before* convergence? Hmm.)

Hey wait im onto something w the fic idea. Just imagine: after Korra a hyper sci-fi world, and a new avatar who does NOT wanna be the avatar so they go into hiding. and their family is in on it. omg maybe give them some siblings too, i dont think we've seen an avatar w siblings yet. Imagine their bending and spirituality, etc is ass. And maybe they're stuck-up and pretentious and worldly and could not give a lesser fuck about the whole avatar thing. and theyre deathly terrified of being found out bc literally why would u wanna be raised in a compound and suffer unimaginable horrors in the name of "keeping balance in the world". The White Lotus has been on the hunt for the new avatar for YEARS after Korra's death. theyre literally HUNTING for them at this point. and idk maybe the world isnt particularly balanced. but maybe benders have somehow been cast into the working class more often than not, yk with all their practical abilities with the elements. they do all of society's dirty work, basically. Maybe throw in some late-stage capitalism while we're at it, why not.

Speaking of late stage capitalism, u remember Kuvira's superweapon? if that isnt a precursor to some devastating *nuclear* weapon idk what is. and also plain old renewable energy. Do spirit vines even count as renewable?? are they more like fossil fuels???

Im getting off track. Different areas of the world are affected to varying degrees with technological advances. More or less, theres like, only a few spiritual places left in the world, those being the air temples and the areas around the spirit portals. Maybe some airbenders break off from traditional airbending tribes in a movement to live a more worldly life. yeah that sounds about right.

Anyways, in my head this new avatar is probably a girl, obviously with the awesome hair and striking green eyes of asami. And shes from Ba Sing Se. all she wishes for is to pursue her education at Republic University and eventually secure a higher-up position at her parents enterprise (or something like that). From the moment she realized she could bend water AND earth her parents told her about the Avatar and the terrifying implications of such a duty ("they'll take you away if they ever find out about this" "remember what happened to Avatar Korra?" etc), and her education only confirmed these fears. Of course, they say/do all this with the best intentions in mind; after all, they don't wanna make their own child suffer or potentially lose her. Oh yeah speaking of education, maybe its more universal and formalized and mandatory, like in real like, like w grades or forms or whatever. Yeah so in short, she grows up into a bratty and materialistic rich girl. lmao if you thought KORRA was bad, just wait till you see this avatar. she is TRULY unlikeable. not a single avatar trait in sight. no conviction to her civic duty, no inherent need to help others, no magical empath abilities, just the standard human emotions and traits and empathy pretty much everyone is predisposed to. she is COMPLETELY out of sorts in the avatar business.

Yeah so and then shes like 20 or something and she doesnt know a lick of bending. Aside from basic earthbending and very very little waterbending, nothing. I was thinking they have standardized bending education for benders and assessments to determine small childrens' bending skills for that reason. and then because of thhat, her parents never sent her to formal bending classes and taught her themselves (maybe they can earthbend, or they know earth benders who wont snitch). But waterbending, she learned that on her own. somethimes, when shes alone and around water, she'll toy with it, just pushing and pulling it; shes not capable of much else. She sometimes wonders what bending other elemnts at their full capacity is like, but she doesnt really care.

Oh yeah adding to the obnoxiousness of this character and her world, they have *phones* and *social media* and *influencers*!!! omg yay !!! I was thinking she either is or is friends with a microinfluencer, so that and her academic and career future are really her only priorities. And so ig she likes vacationing, shopping, blah blah, the kind of things youd expect influencer circles to do.

That all aside, i feel like it would make for a really good plot if for whatever reason she's moved to question her stance on her avoiding her avatar responsibilities. Maybe she fucking hates that Korra has indirectly burdened her of all people with this stupid titanic task, hates Wan for ever coming up with all this. Or does she even know who the hell Wan is? Probably not, actually. But like why couldnt she just kill herself in the avatar state, right?

But yeah anyway, later on she somehow eventually chooses to step into her role as avatar. And then she realizes, shes so goddamn weak. She cant fucking bend anything. she cant even tap into her spirituality, like !! shes so disconnected from it all, like what the hell shes a grown-ass adult and cant bend for shit !! and maybe this causes a rift between her and her family. And then in classic atla style, she has to learn how to bend allll the elements from scratch, just like aang. but because of how much work she also has to do spiritually, unlike aang its sooo hard !! So yeah, just give this girl a bunch of quarter-life crises. thatd be fun. and also figure out how to stop this working-class benders phenomenon. maybe theres sweatshops and she has to get rid of them idk.

Ofc her own gaang is there, idk who its comprised of tho. probably her siblings and then sum1 else like her gf or smth idk

Oh yeah and unlike korra, because of how sheltered she is, shes also really easily shaken up emotionally, by all these i mean. shes such a crier i mean. In fact, after stepping into her avatar role, she goes from selfish basic brat to a massive girlfailure. is it all worth it? Who knows :)

no--i think it's a fairly clear/defensible read that they like each other, but there's absolutely no way either of them are psychologically ready to sorta-date, let alone fuck. i don't think alec is even capable of parsing that he has a crush. alec using his power on her is about the intimacy of perception. they're both the only people who have ever really Gotten each other. aisha has a lot of baggage around being ignored, misperceived, or perceived for the wrong reasons/in the wrong ways. alec's power lets him examine someone in a very intimate way (without strictly being sexual!) and because he Gets her she finds value in him seeing her So Closely he's even able to feel the same emotions as her. alec meanwhile has effectively been taught by his childhood that he can't be close to someone without hurting them & no one will ever care about him enough to voluntarily Want to be close to him, so what he's getting out of it is simply the Immense Healing Power of someone Wanting to be that close w/ him. (there's also to an extent the factor of being trusted That Much, but he doesn't have any faith in his own ability to make reasonable decisions after 13 years in a cult, so while he wouldn't ever intentionally hurt her, he primarily values that she could and purportedly Would stop him/fuck him up if he ever did something wrong.) they were just like. Hanging out while he was using his power on her. Unhinged of them but there was no sex involved no. if they had fucked taylor and brian would've reacted a lot stronger than they did

alec likes aisha very much and likes making fun of other people with aisha far far more than he likes making fun of his first and bestest friend ever. he would also, given the appropriate circumstances for it arose, very much like to kiss her. he would not want to leave her hanging he just has something unfixably wrong with him. it would be fine though. aisha wouldn't care.
