Not a bad movie (it’s a bad movie), but I am a sucker for dark water so I was a little creeped out. One of the creatures they used made me giggle but such is life, am I right? Well, this is my blog, so I am right.

Trigger Warning Child Death

Our movie begins Summer of 1992 with a little red boat (Don’t Move anyone?) puttering on the water of a pool, a little girl sees it and tells her little brother (who is very ill) that she is going to retrieve it for him. As she tries to get the boat from the pool she is sucked in by unknown forces and she vanishes into thin air, or into thin water I suppose. We cut to the now with a famous baseball player who is dealing with his newly diagnosed MS and he and his family (wife and two (2) kids) are moving closer to the wife's new job. They decide to move into a house with a really nice pool in the backyard (what could go wrong?). The whole family seems very fond of the pool and Daddy Ray can use it for his physical therapy. Mama Eve goes on a Night Swim and experiences a freaky vision of Ray watching her and then the lights flicker which freaks her out a bit. The therapy is really helping Ray out though so all seems well.

Next their youngest child, Elliot, goes swimming by himself in broad daylight and all this weird stuff happens like him hearing a little girl talking to him from inside the drain? Weird! She says her name is Rebecca Summers and that she is looking for her mom. Elliot is very freaked out and informs his mother but they cannot find any girl. The parents go out for a date night and the daughter, Izzy, brings over a boy from school that she likes and of course they play in the pool. While in the pool, however, creepy stuff begins happening like someone else responding when she says, “Marco.” We finally get a glimpse of the creature-thing that is drowning people and it is this puffy looking guy that made me stifle a giggle, I mean, when this man responded, “polo…” I guess he is just supposed to be a super bloated drowned fellow but he looks a little silly to me, I must confess. It was spookier when the assailant was invisible. Izzy says “What makes more sense, that the pool is helping us or that it’s haunted?” and Elliot responds “What if it’s both?” 

The Waller family hosts a pool party to meet the neighborhood but during it Ray gets possessed and tries to drown himself and another child at the party. This is a very troubling event (obviously) and everyone is rather shaken afterwards though it is all blamed on his MS. Eve tries to get her family away from the pool but something starts to attack Ray from within so they cannot escape. Ray is sick in bed but is fixated on getting back in the pool, he is like an addict who needs his fix. Eve goes to see the previous owner of the house to get some answers (Rebecca Summers’ mother) and basically finds out the water is healing water but it will take a life as payment. Wack. Eve now has to rush home to stop a life being taken from her family! The kids get home first though and Elliot is lured to the pool by the idea that the cat might be out there (the cat is long gone). Izzy is inside dealing with daddy dearest while mama Eve comes back and jumps in the pool to go save Elliot. 

After fighting off all the demons of those other drowned (except Rebecca Summers, she helps out) Eve is able to get Elliot out of the water. Ray gets to Eve and tries to choke her out but Izzy comes at him with one of his own baseball bats and then begs him to remember who he is. He forgets being possessed really quickly and then also Elliot is okay too somehow even though he pretty much totally drowned. They try to leave again but this time Elliot is showing signs of being possessed. Ray knows what has to be done, the water requires a sacrifice. He gives himself to the dark water, he goes for one last Night Swim. And just like that, Ray is gone forever. Our movie ends with the rest of the family deciding they will keep the house so this can never happen to anyone else and they are filling in the pool with dirt just as the credits roll.

hes cold, never gets too close, keeps you at arms length. there's fleeting moments of vulnerability and affection, ones that give you hope that maybe you can change him, fix him. but the harsh reality that you can't always hits like a wave, leaving your heart in a dull ache.

there's something alluring about him, always pulling you in and leaving you wanting more. those dark eyes of his, always seeming like they are piercing into your very soul. it sends shivers up your spine, makes your heart flutter in your chest, and leaves a certain warmth pooling in your gut. you can't describe the feeling he gives you, but you know it's addicting and as toxic as your favorite alcoholic beverage.

he knows exactly how to mess with your feelings, he knows the moments where he lightly grazes your hand, or cheek, that your one step closer to the edge. your this close to pulling the hairs from your head, to giving into him and telling he won this sick game. your body aches and yearns for him, it drives you up a wall.

he's sick and twisted, but in all the right ways. anyone would call you insane if you told them your situation, who you were attracted to, who you fantasized about at night.
