in the best case scenario my asexuality is a ticking time bomb that will have to be dealt with family-wise sooner or later. In today’s society it’s just not a normal accepted thing to simply be by yourself your whole life. Especially as people start breaking off into the family structure and friends who were once your community and support system become a smaller presence in your life because spouses and kids take precedence— I don’t know any ace people who haven’t worried at some point about dying alone. You don’t simply ‘have a housemate friend’ you live with where e.g. there is someone there for you if you have a sudden emergency. What if you can’t move? What if you’re ill and can’t get out of bed? I’m glad our worlds are better connected today, but the chances that you’ll be with someone safe and known if that happens are smaller than if you’ve got your own family, right? Or is the bleak best case scenario that an ace person has an emergency while at work?

Aces are a pretty small % of the population in general. To say you’ll find another ace person and cohabit is a really small chance. As most people start to move in with their partners, single people, ace people kind of find themselves either priced out of housing options unless rich, or being forced to find other strangers in unusual living circumstances.

I don’t know. I just feel like you are left more on your own in a societal structure that prioritises two-parent-and-children households. Or more generally, that sets you up for marital and couples living rather than necessarily community living, at least in the west.

So what I’m saying is that maybe ‘oppression’ isn’t the word to bring to the advocacy table. It is saying that maybe the thing to remember is that ‘oppression’ won’t look the same for everyone. It’s a reminder that comparing the weight of apples and watermelons doesn’t even make sense.

(This isn’t even aimed at the shortsighted people that think pride is all about labels and being ‘in’ the club. This post is aimed at people that remember pride is a political struggle to improve the lives of people left behind by our current norms. It’s why e.g. disability activists also calling their advocacy disability pride is instantly understood by most.)

It’s why ‘[x] queer group is so not oppressed’ is the emptiest and most wasteful statement you could make in the context of queer rights advocacy.

Dragonself post!!

This is probably a post I will update often, so bear with me. But consider this a little journal for reference of how I feel my dragon form is.

I don't 'see' myself the way I've heard other dragons say they see their dragon forms. For me, my conclusions are drawn from just... feelings. Things I feel are right, and have felt recurringly and/or for a long time. Some elements of my appearance are things I've felt going back to being a child. Others are things that I've grown into over time.

Basics

- I am a western/welsh style dragon; four legs and two wings, fully covered in scales, arrowhead (or perhaps more spade-shaped?) tail tip

- Magically inclined. Couldn't tell you how exactly, I just feel connected to magic somehow. This feeling has often felt tied to emotion, and I often lean into healing and light-based magics when given the choice (e.g. in ttrpgs)

- My scales are largely silver I believe. I have a pair of recurved horns, and those and my talons I think are a darker grey or purple-grey

- I have feathers! On my head and down my spine, and on my forelegs. Perhaps other places too

- my wings are membranous BUT with rows of feathers on the top half/leading edges

Probably my closest representation, this is a piece done by a close friend of mine for myself and my partner. Physically this is very much my structure, limb- and body-wise especially. My tail is a little different (arrow/spade-head, maybe shorter?), and my wings too (partially feathered, bigger). I also have ears not pictured here, and more feathers, but regardless, I adore this. The little feathers along my spine here are my favourite.

Made with Monster Brain Soup's dragon builder! I love this one, it feels like a good 'cartoony' version of myself, and has FOOT BEANS! The foreleg feathers are great here, as are the ears! The tail tip I'm not sure on, I don't feel it's quite right, but it's close. Not certain of the colours really but they're definitely in the ballpark.

This is one done through Flight Rising. I feel a lot of similarities with the Skydancer breed. The plant-based diet, empathy magic, enjoyment of flying, and ESPECIALLY the part-feathered part-membranous wings.

Structurally I am much less dainty. Aforementioned horns, arrowhead tail, ears all apply. The fur here is feathers on me, and I lack antennae. My scales are pointed not rounded, and my belly is scales, not fur. My wing fingers don't narrow like this either; my wing membrane remains wide finger to finger. I'm not 100% on the belly colour, but I'm sure there's blue in there somewhere.

The beaky snout is a good shape, but not wide enough. Again, too dainty. I'm comfy with (if not fully sure of) the side horns. And although I said no antennae, I DO feel I have the forehead gem. A pearl in my case. This is one of the things I've felt the longest, so much so that I can't recall when I first pictured it.

One thing I ADORE here in addition to the feathers is the colouration. The silver and purple. The purple feathers are something I have felt I've had since my teen years, and the constellation patterns and stars... it's hard to explain. But they feel like they belong there, on the undersides of my wings. So that is special. The darker swirly patterns under the stars, not so much. I don't have those. But the stars and constellation markings, yes.

This one mostly has a few elements I feel, rather than the whole picture. The ears and eye ridge are very close to accurate, and the shape of the belly scales are pretty perfect! The purple-tipped scales I'm uncertain on; I think they're something I just like aesthetically in this case. I also like the snout shape of this one quite a lot.

This is another I absolutely adore, big thanks to @melissa-titanium from the dragonkin group for this one! Saphira from Eragon has long been a dragon I've felt represented by; her head shape and feathers always felt very 'me,' so that formed the basis for this sketch of my dragonself. And my ears are here!! Lots of love for this one 💜

This conversation spawned with a friend of mine, so I believed that it would be important to make a proper post about it, as the rules concerning it aren't too specific. So in regards of shipping:

She's in a strange situation due to the splitting of herself and canonical back and forth from her young-looking self to her older-looking self, in combination to a chronological age that not always matches her physical appearance (nor it will on her more adult form, as I'm one to think that her lifespan can lengthen for a very long time given her own circumstances). So explained it briefly, this is where my stance remains in case that there are any doubts about it.

fave nisio isin series or character?

omg tysm for the question 🫶 tho it was shockingly tough to properly settle on an answer !!! i even kept changing my mind while typing this!! i love all his works and get something new from them whenever i engage with any of them. and there's so many of his series that i still need to properly get into (I was just having a convo yesterday about NEEDING to read Medaka Box and Zaregoto this summer. that's the plan)

ANYWAY! To actually answer... My all time favorite series of nisio's, even if it's the cliché pick, will probably always be Monogatari. I've been a fan for more than a decade now which seems crazy to me. It still feels just as fresh and new as when I first watched the anime.

I love every character in that series so dearly that I'm always tempted say fav is whoever was the focus of the last arc I've most recently (re)read/(re)watched. If I HAD to to pick one, I'd probably go with Hanekawa!? But I can't mention gatari favs without also mentioning Kaiki, Nadeko, and Sodachi too. I also have really special fondness for Hitagi and Tsukihi since I guess I relate to them the most in the series.

Otherwise I have to mention Togame from Katangatari as one of my favs. She'd also be pick as the character of his I relate the most too.

And most importantly for last, as his (self-proclaimed) #1 biggest fan— One of the utmost top spots of my favorite characters is indisputably Lai Fudatsuki from the Bishounen series !!!!
