Finished adding all of the different pokemon-forms to the json-files. Created a BlazeBlack-file too with all of its updated values, so I'm finally finished with the pokemon-side of things.

Happy to keep going, I created a list of held items-...

What do you mean "the API-info didn't include the gems"? Oh, right. It's not generation-locked so it might also have included a bunch of non-existing items, and that means...

I'm going to have to manually trawl through the entire list and erase and add things as we go.

Okay, hear me out.

People have been complaining non-stop about how the mainline Pokemon games have been getting easier and easier to play, and I agree. I should be allowed to turn off the EXP share if I don’t want to be ten levels ahead of the frickin champion.

However, there’s another side that no one’s been talking about and it’s probably just as frustrating.

Fangames are ungodly hard for no damn reason. “Oh we want an experience that provides difficulty!” No! No! I’m not getting difficulty! I’m finding games that encourage level grinding! And last time I checked, level grinding sucks.

Okay, Pokemon Uranium? I love you, I really do. I also hate you so, so much. Your level curve is punishing and encourages me to spend two days running around in the nearby route, two days I could’ve spent actually playing through the game. By the way, I’d beaten all the trainers! And I was still underleveled.

Here’s an example. Before the fight with CURIE, my mons were in their mid 50s. Not bad, uuuuntil you see the levels of her mons! 62-65! And nuclear pokemon are a nightmare to deal with. I did the grinding crap for a week and I got by that fight by the skin of my teeth.

Then I had to haul my ass over through Victory Road to the Championship Tournament, but once I got there, I was still at level 58-62 or so. I had to ditch a member of the party because they weren’t pulling their weight and raise another mon to take its place. A baby mon. From an egg. All the way at level 1.

By the way, the fandom hates the Gen 6/7 EXP share for some unfathomable reason. Uranium’s poorly thought out level spikes could’ve done with a Gen 6/7 EXP share.

I don’t get pokemon fangame developers’ thought process that “better game” = “higher levels”. I know BlazeBlack and VoltWhite’s whole thing is “Gen V but you get every mon and it’s more difficult”, but “making everyone have six pokemon and at five levels higher than in the original game” is not the same as making it difficult and fun. I tried to do a nuzlocke on VoltWhite, but I died on the first gym because it was three level 10 mons against six level 12 mons. What should I do to improve my situation? Grind! This is not an optimal playing experience. Why are we celebrating this?

tl;dr - Fangames are too hard because they mistake cheap level spikes for true difficulty.

On the one hand BW/BW2 are really good games that everyone should play but on the other hand the fact that the WiFI features it had are all dead kind of breaks all of them if you’re trying to play them on An Actual DS System

Finished writing down the BlazeBlack stat-changes.

Realized halfway through that the names I got from the API are sometimes weird (basculin-red-stripes, etc), and that I should update those too.

A lot of the weirdness of the names is due to "forms", and a lot of those have different stats and typing. So I'm going to need to create a list (manually) of all of the different forms, write it to json, manually copy-paste that onto the end of the already-existing pokemon-file, use the program to sort the new json by pokedex-number, AND THEN start fucking around with name-changes.

Also, I remembered that BlazeBlack changes types sometimes, so I'm going to need to update that too. (And obviously go back and add all of the stat-changes on different forms that I couldn't update before.)

Doing a Blaze Black Nuzlocke is the hardest thing i’ve ever done. I’ve only played for 5 hours but so far i’ve barely been scraping by. 5 Hours in and this is my progress so far.

1 Gym Badge.

A team of 4.

Noodle the Servine, Diddy the Pampour, Meep the Flaffy and Sir Wag the Poliwag.

1 Pokemon in the Daycare, which is BubbleBass the Feebass. Who will remain in the Daycare until i obtain a Prism Scale.

1 Pokemon as future death fodder, Tad the Tympole

4 Pokemon dead.

Joey the Ratata, B the Beedril, Ned the Venonat and Patrick the Staryu.

The pokemon i expected to carry starting out: Noodle

The pokemon that have actually carried during 5 hours of playtime: Diddy, B and Ned.

I have BARELY been scraping by and the amount of heart attacks i’ve been given while grinding my team is more than i expected to get. The amount of times my pokemon have survived on 1 hp against a crit is downright stupid. Meep has killed at least 1 potential team member, a Drilbur, with a critical tackle and she almost killed Sir Wag while i was trying to catch her. She is a menace to my sanity.

All this pain and suffering upon myself all because i felt like revisiting Unova after i got talking about N to my friends but wanted a little twist to it. 

I'll try and keep you lot updated on my suffering.
