5-25 - Original - For Others. We just thought it'd be fun to combine a fox with a bluejay, so did this and ended up doing a whole character sheet for them, bahaha Quite like them, but didn't feel we needed to keep 'em for ourselves, so passed them off to our packmate, Fox...~ owo And still wanted to post, so cropped it down to this for others to see...~ Only we and Fox may use, do not steal.

Haha wow what a night, started with cozy new wild pants I have for my meadowlark OC, about halfway through I heard a skittering, and a gentle thump against my door. I get up to investigate and HOLY FUCK ME THERES A BAT IN MY BEDROOM. Spent about 20 heart pounding minutes trying to lure and capture the lil guy, (no pics he was big stress and wanted to go home) so I grabbed a towel, and just, slowly cupped him, he chittered and squeaked and screamed and made sounds i didn't think something as heavy as 4 grapes could make.

I released him outside and almost immediately his mate came up and they fluttered off into the moonrise, squeaking the story of how he escaped the horrible clutches of the deep rumbling giant with the cozy chill spots.

Later I went outside to smoke weed and as I sit down I hear the same chittering, I look up and holy shit. The lil guy came back, squeaked a few times and flew in circles, like he said hey thanks for letting me chill in your closet. I finished my joint and fucked off lmao. Wild fucking night

Blue Jays are one of the birds know to let ants crawl on them, to remove parasites, and dead skin and feather... this is called "anting".

Blue Jays are very social birds, and often live in flocks of closely related birds, feeding and migrating together.

Blue Jays have enigmatic migration patterns, some years not migrating at all, and other years migrating to totally new areas.

Though they are not known for it, Blue Jays cam mimic the calls of other birds, other animals, and human made sounds.

if peafowl colouring comes from the way their feathers are structured, how does pie and white eye happen, since those are a lack of pigmentation?

So, "color" is actually "light wavelengths as perceived by our eyes" and pigment is "substance which reflect certain wavelengths and absorb certain wavelengths." Peafowl don't lack /pigment/ but what light is reflected from it depends heavily on how the light is refracted before/after it reaches any pigment. That refraction is what we can see, and is the "coloring that comes from the way their feathers are structured."

A bluejay's feathers are not blue by pigment. They use a brown pigment. But the structure of the barbules on the vanes causes the feathers to appear blue to our eyes. Here's a bluejay feather, lit two different ways.

The same is true of peafowl feathers, in complex ways. The pigment used to color the feathers is almost certainly a brown or black pigment, and the structure of the feathers refracts the light to create different colors. This is how ALL iridescence works in birds, by refracting light through barbule and barb structure. Different angles produce different colors to our eyes because we see different... like "stages" of refraction or angles of it.

Here's a video of what I mean, of Orion showing the blue-to-purple shift that happens when you view a purple peafowl.

If the light is behind you shining directly onto them, they appear blue. If the bird is between you and the sun, up to a 90* angle, it appears purple. Without full-spectrum lighting, the bird appears blue. The bird is still black/brown, but we don't/can't see that because of the structure. The PIGMENT of the bird is not changing just because I walked 6 feet. They don't have chromatophores in their feathers that react specifically to my changing my position. But what color we perceive them as changes due to the structure of the feathers. Except in matte birds like cameo, we don't see the actual pigment color of the bird, we see the iridescent color created by the structure.

So, the leucistic mutations are removing that underlying pigment, and without pigment, the structure of the feathers doesn't matter, since there's no substance to absorb any wavelength of light, and so we see the full spectrum reflected, and see white.

This morning, I found a bluejay feather tucked like a bookmark in the pages of red and yellow leaf litter.

That book tells the story of here, where unguessable magic drifted through time like seeds on the wind, taking root where I would find my parcel of days and sip black coffee on a muddy trail.

What can we say about a universe, ancient and vast, that populates its tiniest corners with oaks and jays, impossible bits of art hidden away in a turning gallery beneath an ocean of chance and empty dark?

Completely free to use but was basically based on as accurate as i could... basically assume. I took some creative liberties as well ut you know, like how I gave Eve heterochromia because there is actually a good chance her eyes arnt golden like eda's (take lillith's or Gwendolyn's for say) We dont even know if her hair is actually red or not it could be brown but that disturbs me for some reason lol ive just imagined her with red hair for sooo long

But heres some headcanon ones for fun!!

Creature Feature Core. Had fun just messing around with ideas. I redesigned dove logo on the rebus box and made into like a family crest.

Other things to note:

I hc that she is an avid "beastkeeper" esque witch and wanted to study the mysterious fauna of the fabled human realm, so she created her own portal to it.

I dont know who came up with this idea but I liked the idea of her being half demon or demon-like.

I think shes really good at illusion magic, in S2E1 Masha talks of how she gave Caleb "visions" of a starge world, so perhaps she teased him with illusions of the isles before actually taking him there. I also think Illusions combined with beastkeeping could equal shapeshifting?? idk maybe im reaching but I LOVE shapeshifter characters so maybe im biased...

The feathers in her skirt are cardinal, bluejay, and goldfinch hehe... and the one in her hair is a barn owl feather and its supposed to represent Caleb <3

Lastly I forgot to change this but I like how each witch almost has a certain color for their magic, even if its not for a specific type. I like to think hers would be a magenta-red color, like the fire magic she was using in one of the Hollow Mind portraits.

Stupid idiot, I love him lol. I also played alot with the CSP brushes lol.

Anyways, the jewlery he has, like the cross and the rings were both from his parents that he kept and no i was not aware that puritans actually DO NOT like using the cross so lets just say he kept it hidden.

He is missing his left ring finger because he had a lot of oopsies while carving in the beginning, hes gotten really good at it though.

He is tired as hell but keeps on trucking on lol

I also rolled down his sleeves because what if he had those cool ruffle sleeves. (yes i know they were poor, shush its cool :,) )

Lastly, the feather in his hair is red-tailed hawk feather and it reminds him of his witch wife.

Yapping on last time- I wanted to give him a more creative design. I mean some cardinals ARE yellow after all... I like how Flap's crest is stuck perked throughout the show so techinically he's just chronically pissed off because correct me if im wrong they mostly have their crest up to either show off to mates or be agrresive little shits. Anyways, he is their son, you cant tell me otherwise.
