hi ! Im soo happy that you're enjoying them, theyre fun kids ! I ended up writing more than expected so please see under the cut <3

So the knights are a bit of a dynasty in terms of ohl teams. They've actually only won the memorial cup (best team out if all teams in the canadian hockey league) twice but if you look at the team awards. They were a bit of a powerhouse last year and swept a couple of their playoff series which is crazy. They're known for their player development and have produced a ridiculous amount of nhl players.

The sheer amount of nhlers that come from the knights is crazy, just the leafs for example have four currently on their roster in john tavares, mitch marner, max domi, anthony stolarz. The leafs president brendan shanahan is also an alumni. Other notable active alumni include nazem kadri (cgy), matthew tkachuk (cats), nikita zadorov (bos), bo horvat (nyi) and others but genuinely there are too many to list.

I am obviously leafs brained so if you want to talk about the mitch marner easton cowan parallel then welcome to the club! Cowboy first of all is beloved, drafted 28th overall by the leafs and largely considered to be a flop pick by the media, went on to put up a 96 point in 56 game season, as well as a 36 game point streak setting a new franchise record and winning ohl mvp. He then went on to score 34 points in their 18 game playoff run winning mvp for the playoffs as well. He is the first player to win both regular season and playoff mvp in the same season since mitch marner. He is an alternate captain this year, and made canadas world juniors team last year, and I love him.

Other notable players (TO ME) include:

Denver barkey: drafted in the 2nd round by the flyers 2023. NEWLY MINTED CAPTAIN 🫡, darling boy with the face of a doll. Was selected to be part of a collaboration with snoopdog and nhl enforcers??? has he ever won a fight? No.

Oliver bonk: drafted 22nd overall by the flyers 2023, assistant captain, and part of the 2024 canadian world juniors team. His dad played In the nhl for 14 years ! Noted worst aux on the team but seemingly unaware. Just seems very sweet and I like him :)

Sam Dickenson (number three london knights): drafted in the first round by the sharks but bc they also got mack this year he was kind of overshadowed. They also don't have anything linking them like a team usually would push for, probably bc of the fwd/defence divide and also bc mack already got a government issued boy best friend in will smith. I love him though, he was their baby last year and he's a brat bc of it. heart and soul of the teams social media

I unfortch dont have a primer or anything as im a more casual enjoyer but a couple of other ldn knights friends are rick @cashewbenoit and @antrea if you want more posts about them <3

Will balances his phone on his knee and tries to act normal. He knows it’s just a quick video, but his heart’s thudding in his chest like he’s about to lace up for overtime.

“You ready?” one of the media guys from Team USA asks, crouched beside the camera.

Will nods, flashes a smile that he hopes doesn’t look too dorky. He’s in his practice gear, hair still damp, cheeks pink from the skate. He looks young, he knows that. Young and fresh and happy. Which, honestly, he is.

Because this is for Mack.

They told them to record quick encouragement clips to players from other national teams they know. “Anyone you’re close with?” the staff asked.

Will had said, trying to play it cool, “Yeah, I know Mack Celebrini.” Like he hadn’t been dying inside the entire time.

He gives the thumbs up and the camera starts rolling.

“Hey, Mack,” Will says, and can’t help the way his face warms a little as he waves.

Oh God. Why did he wave?

“Hope you’re not missing me too much over there.”

Someone behind the camera snorts. Will presses on.

“Good luck with the rest of the tournament, Captain Canada. I’m, uh, I’m cheering for you, except if we play you. Then I hope you trip over your laces.”

He grins at the camera, soft and a little teasing.

“Nah, seriously. You’re gonna kill it. You always do. Miss you. Can’t wait to see you.” He pauses, then throws in, “Don’t get too grumpy without me.”

They cut the video and Will lets out a breath, heart doing its fluttery thing. He tries not to think too hard about the fact that Mack is gonna watch that on a screen somewhere with the rest of Team Canada probably hovering around.

In Stockholm, Mack watches it on the little tablet the media team hands him. He tries to keep his expression neutral. Stoic. Captain-like.

He does a terrible job.

The second Will pops up on screen, Mack's whole face softens like a reflex. Like his body remembers what it's like to be around Will—that buzzing, sparking energy that makes Mack feel younger than he is, lighter.

“Hey, Mack,” Will says with that lopsided grin, and Mack is already biting the inside of his cheek, trying not to smile like an idiot.

He fails again.

By the end of the clip, Mack’s shaking his head with a fond exhale, eyes crinkled. “Christ,” he mutters. “They really let him say that shit on camera?”

The staff filming him chuckles. “You wanna record a response?”

Mack sits back, tries to school his features into something respectable. Veteran captain. Responsible adult. Totally not whipped.

“Sure,” he says. Then, when they count him in:

“Will. Smith.” He says it slow, like he’s already exasperated. But his eyes are warm. “You better not be chirping me in front of the whole damn internet. I’ll make you pay for that next time I see you.”

Someone snickers behind the camera and Mack keeps going.

“Take care of yourself, alright? Try not to piss off the vets too much. Save some energy for when we’re back. I’ll, uh—see you soon.”

He clicks his tongue, adds with a smirk, “Don’t miss me too much.”

The media guy clicks the camera off, and Mack sinks back into the seat with a sigh. He's got a game in an hour, and Will's laugh is still echoing in his ears.

He doesn’t bother pretending it doesn’t make him feel better.

Team USA sends Will the clip the next day.

He watches it three times in his hotel bed before texting Mack:

I was talking to one of my friends tonight and this guy from an older internet circle came up and she (is still convinced I never smiled like anyone else the way I talked about him but really it was never gonna work between us and not the point of this story anyWAY!) was like “do you still talk to him” and I said “nah. I haven’t actually talked to really anybody in that circle in a year, and haven’t really missed it they all kinda suck. He and like one other person were really the only decent ones in there, everyone else was like. Shitty people.”

And she looks shocked and goes “BUT YOU STILL TALK TO TONEE RIGHT?!”

something about them both being first overalls but having such different roles and expectations on them. their juxtaposition of jack being so dynamic while nico is a more steady reliable type player, and how that's also reflected in their roles with captain vs an a. and that this is kind of Their Team in terms of being the perceived pillars of the franchise going forward.

hey :)) you asked about trevor and jamie and that activated my unskippable dialogue bc they're part of the reason i got into hockey, after spending an entire afternoon trawling hockey tumblr to find out about them and breaking my heart.

quick personality rundown: trevor (loud, affectionate chaos gremlin. chronic yapper who loves with his heart on his sleeve). jamie (quiet, unassuming, down-to-earth. funnier than he's given credit for).

basically they played against each other at worlds usa v canada (trevor for usa, jamie for canada). usa won and trevor said a couple of snarky things after in an interview; he and jamie went back on the same flight but didn't speak to each other.

fast forward a bit, they're both signed for the anaheim ducks. trevor scores his first goal against the arizona coyotes; 2 minutes and 30 later, jamie also scores. they're the youngest duo in nhl history to each score their first goals less than 3 minutes apart.

after that they're inseparable. they live together, go to stuff together, etc. there's a pic of them celebrating their first goal which trevor hangs up in their place. they go out for drinks on trevor's 21st birthday which involves drinking one (1) cocktail each and then going home to watch the sunset from the roof of their house. jamie takes pictures of trevor and trevor makes a rooftop spotify playlist which could mean nothing. during an interview trevor is asked about the baseball cap he's wearing and without any shame explains he's wearing it because jamie likes how it looks on him, much to the bafflement of the hosts. they even get injured together and spend time on ir.

then, around the start of 2024, jamie gets traded to the flyers. immediately after, trevor goes off the deep end: actively getting into trouble during games, yelling at the refs, etc. then he breaks his ankle and has to spend another 8-10 weeks on ir which he said was the worst because the last time he was hurt jamie was with him. seen at some charity event for the ducks while on recovery visibly limping and barely able to smile. has spent much of last year crashing out but slowly seems to be recovering his whimsy (also he has another boy best friend mason mctavish who's been helping him through it).

jamie on the other hand seems to be fine; his new team likes him and vice versa, and he even has a new girlfriend. he still listed trevor as the most famous person in his contacts for some tiktok thing, which could mean nothing.

that said, flyers and ducks played each other early this year (?) and trevor was reported to have been seen "waiting patiently" (exact words) outside the flyers dressing room. apparently he and jamie met up and went out for dinner, which according to trevor was "good". then a few days ago jamie got a hole in one on the golf course and trevor reposted the pic on his own ig story. could a summer reunion be possible? time will tell
