Took a few days off from design and anxiety after rounding out the end of my summer semester, so to get back into design mode I tried out rendering my own watch in Illustrator at my new manager’s suggestion.

The big incentive here was to start getting a feel for the ins and outs of watch rendering and Illustrator rendering, as I’ll be heading to Dallas to start a watch design internship with Fossil this week and I’ve only ever done one Illustrator render before.  I’m pretty excited though, and the more I get the hang of rendering in Illustrator the more I like it.  It’s a lot more forgiving than Photoshop for sure!

Tidbits from a project pitch a friend of mine is planning he commissioned some sketches from me for. Was a lot of fun to do and it's a pretty fantastic product idea in my opinion, looking forward to the day I can share more!

Spent this weekend making a label for a beer my friends brewed up. The Closet Brew brand stems from the beer having been brewed in one of their closets, and the Hourglass name comes from the dark character of the beer, which makes it take a while to drink. My design intent was to emphasize the hand-made, low-yield nature of the product by giving the label a rustic and faded look, along with putting all the graphics at mismatched angles while painstakingly maintaining an alignment grid. (And for the record, haven't had any myself)

Some sketches from this week, sone quicker than others. Mechs and vehicles have been a source of fun during long meetings, though of course the new Zelda remains on the brain

Came up with some portable speaker concepts (and a roller coaster car!) during another phat 3 hour meeting. Got really into the splittable concept for sone reason. I gotta keep in mind to use marker for underlines and not lead holder. I always forget and this Muji pen disagreed with the thick graphite cake pretty hard

Finished up another concept painting at work today, a sweet hovercycle this time (the original sketch is in my previous sketchbook post). Still leagues away from where I'd like to be, and line is seeming inescapable, but I'm liking my results here much more and am heading in a visual direction I like. Might do another at home during tomorrow's snowpocalypse to test out my custom brushes, instead of the default ones I've been stuck on at work.
