Bsd is such an interesting subset of series to me, because it's the type of series where, if you like it, we can sit here for hours and hours talking about the all the characters, the depth, the trauma, the emotion, the significance in the coats, the yin yang symbolism, "away with you, you fool," skk, etc.
But if you don't like it, then you will think it's a badly written silly little detective anime, and I cannot convince you otherwise.

idk i think akutagawa, leading byakko expert as suggested by 55 minutes, knows that byakko isn't likely to let atsushi be struck down like that. obviously, akutagawa may not be in the headspace to process it right now, but that atsushi could be bubblified without triggering byakko's intervention is a cue to akutagawa that bubblification isn't quite death.
sskk communicate nonverbally a lot, and I think they had a conversation in those few panels that didnt need to be spoken out loud.

I was reading previous interviews of Asagiri and it really surprised me, the whole analogy of Dazai being a donut.
He is supposed to lack a core, which even Asagiri doesn't know of, nobody can really know or understand what is going on inside the mind of the enigma called Osamu Dazai.
We may think, I have read no longer human, I understand Dazai. I wonder if most misunderstandings come this way, no longer human was supposed to be universally relatable. Anyone, who has faced embarrassment, would find that their soul is written on a piece of paper.
As reasonable and fair it sounds, we must distinguish a writer and the craft from that of another writer and his craft--which seems to be the ideal course of action for Asagiri too.
Dazai was inspired by real life Osamu Dazai, he wasn't made according to him. Initially Dazai was just a "suicidal maniac who asks women for suicide", and that was it.
Dazai is a genius, someone who can easily change or win any battle, how can we relate to him?
Characters like Sigma, Atsushi or Kunikida were supposed to be like us, like normal humans, so it was more than valid to kin them or relate to their life or struggles. Yet, we chose the character with nothing "human" to relate to.
It's truly provocative, we have chosen a donut and attempted to fill it's hollow core with ourselves. Dazai is a mirror to the fandom, he is a donut in the story. That's the only two things that can uphold the work and thought put into his character and motivations.
We tend to fill things that are empty, rather than enjoy ones that are already served finely. Even Dazai's character reveals a prominent trait in humans. And isn't it so pleasing, to experience his existence?
Now, I myself kin him and highly relate to him, but I question now, if it was really me that I found familiar. My intention was to not tell you people that you are looking at Dazai wrong, or anything negative. I just desired to share this observation and trend in the bungou fandom.
You are free to kin him or not kin him, it's all your decision and the core would be empty, for now, so it's reasonable to try and fill it.

Kunikida genuinely snapping at Dazai makes for an interesting scenario...
It isn't a 'haha Kunikida is strangling Dazai for not pulling his weight' moment, but one filled with yells, flailing hands, rage and spilled tears because he's overworked and stressed and Dazai isn't helping and he's just so, so tired.
It could be due to him having no proper sleep all week. It could be due to a failed mission and only him getting reprimanded by Fukuzawa. It could be due to Dazai pushing his buttons too far. It could be the frustration piling up to the brim and finally spilling out.
But all the same, Dazai thinks that it's their typical ritual of Kunikida getting angry at him at first, so he pushes further, until the yells get hearty, the words get harsh, the tears spill, and Dazai just stares, stupified. He isn't sure what to say or do, blanking because things are currently out of his depth. Can't even say a word when Kunikida storms and leaves...
Later, when things settle after Kunikida receives the space he needs, Dazai would try to go and apologize, to own up to his mistakes in the ways he knows how, which isn't to say are right or great ways, but close enough...
Of course, Kunikida doesn't expect Dazai to magically switch from slacker to hard worker just because of this single instance, but he conveys his appreciation for Dazai's apologies anyway, saying sorry himself for the unwarranted yelling and harsh words. They make it work.
And they spring right back the day after...

i think what really solidifies soukoku's power imbalance to me is that dazai in his most powerful state is an invincible puppet master and chuuya in his most powerful state will only survive if dazai wants him to.

yknow it's so interesting to me that people see chuuya as a dog and dazai as a cat. because like. they have qualities of both. dazai is defined as a cat person because of his elusiveness and i think generally the port mafia era as whole--not to mention, i feel that cats are harder to gain the trust of. he also is just kind of. built like one (look me in the eyes and tell me he doesn't look like a wet fucking cat.) but he also has dog qualities. like. for example. he's always in everyone's space (kunikida, chuuya,,,sometimes atsushi i think) just like how a dog has no spacial awareness (specifically big dogs) for just HOW big they are. With how he acts in the ADA, it seems he's also very loud and energetic. He's got a certain allure to him that i think lets him socialize with people easier to get what he wants--like how dogs are (in a stereotypical sense) friendly. meanwhile, chuuya is typically defined as a dog. He's loyal, he's loud--he definitely bites if you press him too much. He can be friendly, but that's not really what i think of when i think of chuuya. But he's also stand-offish, and i wouldn't be surprised if he had a sarcasm streak. he's highly independent and impulsive, much like stereotypical cat behavior. I feel like the mafia also works more at night, and cats are typically nocturnal. Cats (may i remind you, stereotypically) are also agile and graceful, as well as hard to bribe or catch when they don't want to be caught. i jst think they're neat tbh.

“All that can happen now is that one foul, humiliating sin will be piled on another, and my sufferings will become only the more acute. I want to die. I must die. Living itself is the source of sin.”
“If it failed I had no choice but to hang myself, a resolve which was tantamount to a bet on the existence of God.”

Read a section from No Longer Human I remembered happening, and it just reminded me of this scene. I don’t think there’s an inherent connection here, just an observation of why Fyodor is insistent on Dazai understanding besides the discussion between Oba and Horiki on the antonym of Crime (/Sin).

then, Dazai lifts his head. evening sun streaming through the window paints walls of the agency in golden hues, while everyone in front of it melds together like palm trees in sunset paintings, their figures silhouetted against the light. he gazes at these people, unable to distinguish who they are; a gentle breeze tousles their hair all at once, they laugh simultaneously, and like palm trees swaying in the wind, they emit a single sound. yet he knows if he were to focus, he could distinguish each of everyones’ unique way of laughing. and if he listens carefully enough, he might hear his own laughter too because he finally understands what this is all about, what is there to laugh at. the wind, as if finishing its work with them, comes to him and caresses his head. the sun, merging their silhouettes, shines in his eyes too and the feeling is almost too much for him to bear. his eyes meets with Atsushi’s and the boy smiles knowingly. twenty-two years, he thinks. now I belong somewhere. he smiles back.

Did anyone else notice that Dazai stole Chuuya’s keeping his hands in his pockets thing? I haven’t gone through and checked but I’m pretty sure he only does that with the ada. So while Chuuya moved on and got gloves Dazai adopted the pocket fighting method five years later. Idk that’s just interesting to me. Just a subtle detail about how Dazai is trying to be better but he still needs that physical reminder and it’s a way to hold on to the better parts of his past at the same time. Anyway it’s 2:30 so this may not make any sense and I could be totally off the mark here.
