Even if the writers bring in a new LI for Buck, no one is ever gonna beat Tommy Kinard. Sorry! But just look at this material:

Tommy personally knows and respects the life of a firefighter and why it’s so important to Buck, something that Buck’s previous love interests found difficult to understand

Tommy can be involved in calls and can help the 118 in a way others can’t (as we’ve seen)

Even before dating Buck, Tommy had strong connections to the main characters — the most important people in Buck’s life

Buck himself said Tommy is his most transformative relationship since Abby (whom Tommy is also connected to)

Speaking of Abby, Buck pined for her, but it was clear that Abby was ready to move on when she left him. With Buck and Tommy, both of them want each other back. Neither is ready to move on. They pine for each other.

Tommy is one of the very few people who call Buck “Evan” and the only one to do so regularly and with such affection. It was only during the breakup that Tommy called him Buck. The worst day of Buck’s life was the day Tommy called him by the name everyone else uses for him. Because Tommy isn’t everyone else. And no one else will ever be Tommy to Evan.

Tommy was a part of the call that ended with Bobby’s death. Tommy was the only one who saw Buck’s grief after losing the person he considered his father. Tommy was a pall bearer and walked with the main characters at Bobby’s funeral.

Speaking of Bobby, Tommy is the only LI of Buck’s that Bobby approved of. The only one Bobby will ever approve of. Bobby knew Tommy and Tommy knew Bobby. Tommy was part of the 118 when Bobby began again. Tommy saved Bobby’s life before Buck met him.

It was Tommy’s decision to transfer that opened the spot at the 118 that changed Buck’s life.

Literally, Buck is the happiest he has ever been when he is with Tommy. He can be giggly during sex and hold funerals for dead cowboys. Buck smiles and looks at Tommy with so much affection. And Tommy shows up for Buck – whether it’s attending the hospital wedding after an exhausting shift or making sure he’s resting after he’s injured or cooking him a literal feast or stealing a helicopter.

Any LI after Tommy would pale in comparison. The writers will do what they will but … why even attempt to outdo this ... You simply can’t!

so it's NOT just aziraphale comforting crowley here. it's both of them lamenting their complicitness in the suffering of humanity, it's them realising just how pointless it all is both of them making this one poor man's life miserable just to prove who's side is best (like this whole both heaven and hell torturing one guy to test his faith is that whole thing adam said about the stupidity of armageddon in MICROCOSM), and suddenly coming to the conclusion that they are the only ones who can understand each other. they have no one else in the world, in the universe, who knows how they feel. it's literally them reflecting on their respective positions in this great ineffable cosmic game of chess and realising they are not just playing opposite numbers, but are connected in such a deep and profound way such as that no one else would ever be able to comprehend.

and all of that is literally encapsulated in this one fucking screenshot. that's why it's eliciting so much inexplicable emotion in people. even without the context this shot is so provoking, but it really says it ALL once you understand what's really going on here. even without any dialogue or movement. the vast beauty that surrounds them, the purposeful distance maintained but nonetheless still sitting together peacefully, the quiet moment of reflection upon their places in the universe, and their places in each other's lives. the feeling that they really might be the only two people on earth who matter. what a beautiful place to build this season's romance from. I haven't even seen the scene yet and I'm already in awe

okay so one thing i like to do for fun is speculate about potential 9-1-1 scenes that i'd really like to see play out next season and naturally one of the obvious ones to do that with is buddie's first date.... so walk with me for a second while i elaborate on my vision.

now first and foremost i am a #believer that the buddie first kiss will be a very heat of the moment type thing like ideally right after some crazy near-death experience and it's all dramatic and passionate etc etc. like i just think that would be so much fun and also a good way to set up their relationship because it's like they're so caught up in the adrenaline and then they're like oh my god what did we just do. also because i see this being like a major mid-season finale cliffhanger like it just makes perfect sense that we get the classic mid-season crisis of sorts -> buck and eddie bruised bloodied battered just falling into each other's arms and then making out sloppy style -> hiatus where we all inevitably go insane

so alright they've kissed... what now? i feel like the logical next step is that they’ll have some sort of Tricky Conversation where they’re like well what about chris/is this worth risking our friendship over/are we in a relationship now because stuff can't ever go smoothly in the 9-1-1verse but obviously they work it out and decide fuck it let’s give it a shot... which brings us to the actual date!

naturally, buck is going to be the one planning it because he wants to woo eddie #right so he makes reservations at a restaurant and i think it could be cute if pre-date we have buck sort of anxiously ranting to maddie because he's super nervous and she's like please be calm it's literally eddie. and he's like yeah you're right what could possibly go wrong 😊 <- famous last words. so they're at the restaurant and in typical 9-1-1 fashion it either a) it goes horribly wrong à la madney date where someone starts dying at another table or b) it’s very awkward and silly at first becayse they’re freaking out about the pressure they’ve put on themselves but ultimately by the end of it everything's good 👍

and then buck drops eddie home in his jeep (duh) and he walks eddie to his door and eddie's like aww what a gentleman all flirtatiously and buck's like to be honest i've been thinking about doing that all night...well actually there’s also one more thing i've been thinking about and eddie’s like *doe eyes* yeah? and buck leans in and kisses him and it’s super cute and chaste and they’re both grinning like idiots and then buck's like okay i guess i’ll let you get some rest and there’s a heavy pause and then eddie’s like well... it’s not like you haven’t slept over at my place before and then BOOM they’re crashing through the doorway making out hands all over each other stumbling onto the couch et cetera and we get a tasteful fade to black… and the next scene is them waking up in eddie's bed together and buck's like i gotta say this is a lot comfier than sleeping on the couch and eddie's just horribly fond and then we hear christopher yelling eddie's names and Shenanigans ensue and maybe there's a parallel to eddie kicking out shannon except this time he's like you know what actually we should just tell him (because i really do not want them keeping their relationship a secret from chris... that poor kid has been through enough)

Merlin Secrets and Magic Ep. 12 The Dragon’s Den

Colin Morgan: You see Morgana become so impassioned and ehm, so against Uther that it’s actually becoming quite dangerous and very worrying.

Katie Mcgrath: She becomes a vessel for a spell that is cast over all of Camelot.

(scene shows Kilgharrah saying. “The source of this pestilence is The Witch, the Lady Morgana”)

Colin Morgan: He is put into a position where he has to make a decision which is …very out of character.

Colin Morgan: He has to uhm, literally poison a friend, you know, kill a friend, ehm, but for the greater good. It’s… (Smiles) It’s not an easy decision.

Katie Mcgrath: He can either save Camelot or let me live. So in order to save Camelot and Arthur and the Once and Future King, he has to kill Morgana.

Johnny Caps: Does he poison somebody that he, in a way, cares about but is suspicious of or does he let her live and therefore let the rest of Camelot die? Either decision is really difficult for Merlin.

Katie Mcgrath: He kills her because he believes he had to and he kills her because Morgana’s magic has taken her somewhere that his magic never would and Merlin and Morgana can’t be friends because of that. They started all from the same place but they’ve gone completely opposite directions and their friendship isn’t going to come back from that.

Johnny Caps: And we liked that because, you know, let’s push Merlin into uh, making a very very difficult decision and it is an awful decision that he has to make but there is hope there for Morgana because Morgause takes her away and there absolutely a sense that Morgause will save Morgana. And that creates for us a delicious dilemma because when Merlin gets to meet Morgana again, what would her attitude be towards Merlin, what would her attitude be towards Camelot, and what has Morgause been telling her?

Colin Morgan: It was important to get that right and uhm Jeremy Webb and director was great because he uh completely pushed us and spent the time on it.

Katie Mcgrath: I hope I never have to do it again. It was horrible. I made Colin cry, well I made Merlin cry but it’s the same thing.

No, but, Stede's confidence in their relationship. From the moment of "His name is Ed", he knows they are meant to be and he's always acting on it and saying it. Of course Ed is his boyfriend! But the intersection of this confidence and surety for what he's feeling with this utmost respect for Ed's feelings and boundaries. He can't stop his enthusiasm, his love, but whenever he bounds ahead with an "I love everything about you", with initiating hand holding or deepening a kiss or with putting a name to the relationship, he is always so immediately ready to stop and check in that this is what Ed is comfortable with as well. Neither of them ever were in a healthy, consensual relationship before, and Stede's reaction to finally being able to have that is to ask for consent every step of the way. Nobody ever asked him, and nobody ever let him ask, so now he's asking away all the time, and it makes Ed feel so safe and loved I bet.

You mention in one of your tags (related to the Emily episode) that you read an interview regarding Gillian's pregnancy and that some cast/crew comments were well-meaning but insensitive. Do you remember the interview or what they said?

The 90s were a fun time for music, tv, and entertainment, but it must have sucked for the women who had to deal with such a Macho and sexist Hollywood. Feeling compelled to go back to work shortly after a C-section out of "guilt" or fear for one's job "hurts" just to think of it because I know the pain of a C-section and just wanting to stay still when it feels like a stitch is going to tear.

:cracks knuckles: Let's goooooo! First of all, I can only imagine the pain and recovery from a C-section is super intense, full stop. 💜 I know from seeing friends go through it that it can be rough and traumatic even with access to deep rest and real support. It's absolutely horrific to me to try to imagine filming ten-days after an emergency C-section. I was able to find one of the main articles that gave me this impression, and it was this one from TV Guide, March 1995. I've excerpted some of it below and bolded some of the things that felt slightly infantalizing/not great to me. I should say before we dive all of the way in that I think part of what reading this article for the first time left me with was a sense of what an absolutely wild, overwhelming, and isolating time it must have been for Gillian, with some added 90s workplace misogyny and paternalism as icing on the cake.

It's worth going into this bearing in mind that Gililan was 25 at the time of this interview and 24 when she started the show and found out she was pregnant. She lied about her age to get the job - she said she was 27. Both her husband-at-that-time and David are 8 years older so they were ~32 when all of this was happening. Chris Carter would have been 37. She and her first husband, who was on the art direction team for the show, had a whirlwind 6-month romance then spontaneously eloped to Hawaii and accidentally conceived on their wedding day (which the full article goes RIGHT into 😅 but I'll skip ahead to the relevant bit):

A pregnancy would mean limitations on her work schedule and missing episodes - no one could predict how many - in the second season. "I knew I needed to make my decision about the pregnancy first, before broaching the subject with the producers," says Anderson. "I couldn't be wavering. Having this baby was the right decision for my husband and me. But it was like, 'Oh, my God. They did all this for me and now look what I'm doing to them.' So many things go through your mind. So yes, I was worried." Apparently with good reason. According to several sources, executive producer Chris Carter was not pleased. "He went ballistic," says one source. "He wanted to get rid of her." Two other insiders back up that claim. "They were considering recasting," confirms Anderson. "I heard a lot of stuff through the grapevine, and it was not comforting." Not so, says Carter. "I never, ever considered replacing her. It's a lie. If anything, I was the loudest voice saying: We have to protect this show and this person. Scully and Mulder are two characters that the audience has invested in, they are the secret to the success of the show, and we have to find a way to make this work." How did all of this affect Anderson? "She's grown up," says wardrobe supervisor Kieft. "Getting married and having the baby has matured her, I think, and given her a bit of stability. When she was pregnant, we did have a bed standing by, and whenever we could, we would get her to lie down. But she is quite a strong little person." In fact, Anderson missed only one episode and was back to work - after an emergency C-section - in just 10 days. "I was getting restless," says Anderson. "I wanted to get back to work because it was really hard on David, and it's the two of us up there, you know?"

So just to break this down:

Reading between the lines a bit, it sounds like she felt pretty certain that if she didn't share the news with her mind firmly made up and her feet planted, the producers might try to coerce her into having an abortion. Sit with that for a minute. (I am fully and passionately pro-choice but the operative word is choice.)

If three anonymous sources and Gillian herself all say Chris Carter was absolutely incensed about her being pregnant, he was for sure Big Mad and is just trying to cover his ass for PR. There's evidence for this elsewhere as well.

I really do think this last passage was truly well-intended but it hits a lot of points that leave me feeling uneasy. The idea that pregnancy has helped her grow up or ground her, this sense that people were making sure she rested when she was forced back to work immediately after a harrowing emergency c-section, and everything about the phrase "strong little person."... to me it just sort of betrays an environment where GA was habitually treated/perceived sort of like a little girl and not an adult woman with full agency.

Just. Ten. DAYS!!!!! It's a crime.

This next one isn't as bad by any means, but here's a quote from her hairdresser earlier in this same article:

"In the beginning," says Marsden, "she had trouble with her lines, and I think it kind of upset David because he is so accomplished. He's worked in feature files. He's worked with Brad Pitt. And he can learn his lines"-Marsden snaps his fingers-"like. But I know he appreciates how hard she works."

Now obviously, there's nothing overtly wrong with what he's saying here, and it's explicitly laid out in the article how David was the first person she told and that he was supportive. But this quote (and the article taken as a whole) provides a sense of overall atmosphere to me: she's young, she's green, everyone's already a little impatient toward her, and then she was also pregnant.

There's also this article from USA Today in 1994:

The C-section put her "out of commission at least an extra four days than they were planning." She figures everyone is "a little sorry" for sending her back to the grind so soon. "But it seems to have worked out. I think. So far," she says, breathless and bemused.

Does this mean they were originally planning for her to return to set SIX DAYS (???) after giving birth? (??????!)

In the same article, casting a bit of doubt on the earlier narrative that she was just "a strong little person" that they had to coax into lying back down:

Surprise: It calls for her return as skeptical FBI agent Dana Scully--albeit lying in a coma for most of the episode, which aired last week. "That did help a bit, but I mean, with 60 people around you and all the lights, it's not an unstressful situation."

Also in the USA Today article:

When she learned of her pregnancy in February, it defined the phrase mixed blessing. "It was wonderful news, but it scared a lot of people. It scared me. The show was doing relatively well, but it was still very young and there was the possibility of it going one way or another. It could have crashed, and I would have been somewhat in the middle of that. It was a rough time letting people know I had made this decision and deciding how to work with it, and for them, whether to recast (the role)."

I interpret that as something like: if the show had stopped doing well and there was anyway it could be pinned on her pregnancy/absence, it would have been chalked up as her fault. I feel like I'm forgetting something major in terms of crew saying condescending/sort of shitty things (am writing this at midnight because of who i am as a person, so if I remember I'll reblog with it tomorrow) but if you poke around the gilliananderson.ws archives from that time, a lot of the articles focus on or mention her pregnancy or being a new mom, and she speaks pretty candidly about having feared for her job and being absolutely exhausted and fully in survival mode. When you consider that all of this coincided with her being thrust directly into major fame, it's A LOT! This recent Bustle article (Feb 2024) on where Gillian Anderson was at 28 is also somewhat illuminating.

No one will ever know the violence it took to become this gentle - a Min Yoongi appreciation post.

I just finished listening (again) to D-Day, and now I have emotions I need to express about Min Yoongi - please bear with me and my own feelings as I try and navigate this post.

So, I belong to the sect of ARMY that joined in during the 'Yoongi is a cold bad boy, and BTS is scared of him' phase of 2021. One of the first things I knew was that he was cold and unapproachable, and BTS were somewhat physically more awkward with him than they were with each other. I believed it - despite feeling bad, I did. It was easy, and a fandom joke - I thought it was OK to go along with it.

I'm so glad that baby ARMY now get to know Yoongi as the sincere, shy and warm hearted person that he is - and not any cliches and boxes that people put him in. But I'm not here to discuss overdone fandom jokes - I want to talk about AGUST D, SUGA and Min Yoongi.

More specifically, I want to talk about the blurred lines between the personas and the real person.

When I initially found out about the music Yoongi releases under the name AGUST D, I was intrigued, to say the least. I believed that AGUST D was the real person, the raw and real form of Yoongi - that he presented a glossier, more perfect version of him for the rest of the world. And in doing so, I did a great injustice to Yoongi as an artist, and a person.

AGUST D is raw, and fierce and angry - but not the real version I believed he was. He spits out insults to the world; promises to rise from the ashes, but as a dragon who will once again avenge himself against the world. He is confident in his skills, and is proud of the efforts he puts into becoming the best.

However, D-Day provides a completely different, more vulnerable side to the AGUST D we know.

There's a tweet somewhere on the internet that praises BTS for the fact that their music has grown along with them - they started out as normal teenagers who were trapped in and forced to conform to the world, to insecure young adults who wanted to rebel against the steel cages they were trapped in, to adults who have finally found the most important things in life; happiness and the love they realized needed to start from themselves. And now we witness them at the cusp of their adulthood, truly enjoying their lives and existence.

In D-Day, instead of choosing to spite and snarl at the world, AGUST D chooses to open up. Gone is the angry young man who found a desperate need to prove himself, to show that he was the best amongst hundreds of other people - we now have an AGUST D who recognizes the innate potential he has. Instead of looking at artful, confident declarations by AGUST D, we now have a man who chooses to talk about the person he is, and the person he wants to be.

He talks about the events that have made him the way he is now; his mother's surgery and his father's cancer and his own accident which affected his shoulder badly. This is very Min Yoongi of him - an innate vulnerability that he chooses to show, because he believes that he will be accepted. He talks of wanting to create a better world for his juniors, to be the rock that he and BTS never had.

So, thank you, Min Yoongi. For trusting me enough to tell me your stories.

I am very pleased to say I have finished storyboarding what I have written. I might rearrange some pages or add a bit more before I start drawing, and it's going to suck and take a fair bit of time, but I'm also very pleased with the chapter so far and I may have written myself into a corner trying to figure out what comes next but WHO CARES! I gotta ride the wave when it hits.

We are looking at 19 pages for sure, maybe 20 or so. That means its not quite as long as chapter 8 yet, but there's three concurrent storylines I have to juggle and a lot happens so I don't want to overextend them tooo too much. We will see what the final page count is, these things tend to shift around as I draw anyway.

Overview

Broadly speaking I’ll start by talking about the actual building, then move on to discuss the model I built, then I’ll go into detail by section/room, starting with the stuff I’m absolutely certain about, then stuff that’s less cut and dry, and finally stuff that’s purely theoretical at this point, along with some extras.

Here we have a bird's eye view of the entire thing, both upstairs and downstairs. There will be additional close up bird's eye views of each individual section when I discuss them in detail throughout the posts.

The Real Building

First, let’s talk about the actual real life building that they film in. The firehouse set lives in a converted warehouse in Glendale, which makes that line from The Bachelor scene in s7e04 an extremely funny (to me) meta joke.

As for dimensions, the building is 60 feet wide and roughly 165 feet long. She’s big y’all. For scale, here are both Eddie and Buck’s living spaces inside the firehouse:

Below are some grungy google maps exterior shots for your viewing pleasure. I’m particularly delighted by the graffiti on the front garage door that reads: Don’t call 911. BAKE! (wake & bake)

It's here that I need to be pedantic about the roof. As you can see, this building has a sloped roof. That little smaller bit that pokes out the top is called a monitor and it allows for clerestory windows to let daylight into the full length of the building. This sloped roof is held up inside by massive wood trusses which feature very prominently in many of the interior shots. Below are some example screen shots. I have passive aggressively highlighted the slope of the interior roof. Also, you can see the monitor roof with all the windows in it.

Obviously they cannot hang out in lawn chairs on top of this roof. They film all the roof scenes at the Fox studios lot. You can tell by the surrounding buildings visible in the background of those shots. Note Fox Plaza (the Die Hard building) behind Athena below.

Additionally, it’s not always the same roof. I’ve highlighted two of the buildings I’m certain or mostly certain about below. I also labeled Stage 6 toward the top left of the image, which was the 9-1-1 sound stage through season 8.

I have a mental workaround that allows me to reconcile these conflicting roof situations that I’ll explain in depth toward the end of all this, because it’s also relevant to a couple other things too.

Also, this isn’t relevant to anything really, but I need to say that at no point in this entire process did I notice any evidence of climate control systems in the building, and there also appears to be zero insulation. So I cannot imagine this place is comfortable to film in a lot of the time. They seem to always have huge fans in bts videos during the summer, and I imagine it’s pretty chilly in there during winter filming. Thank god for the temperate Los Angeles weather, I suppose.

The Exterior

As far as the exterior goes, three sides of the building are exposed, and one wall is shared with the building next door.

The front facade in the show is mostly red brick and is completely computer generated. There’s a side alleyway that has like an engine hoist or something? I am not a mechanical expert. Sometimes the hose racks are out there, etc.

Also, when Buck was going insane and ordering basketballs to the station and suggesting they get a hoop, I could have sworn they already had one in the side alley, and sure enough, I wasn’t insane. It’s there in the background of Hen Begins. I guess canonically, it's gone by the time Buck’s losing his marbles, but at least I have proof I didn’t lose mine.

Around the back is an extremely tall wall covered with greenery. There’s also a few trees and other planters and what seems to be a pretty nice sitting area with concrete benches, but those might belong to the building next door.

About The 3D Model I Built

I built the model in a program called Chief Architect. I first started this project in *checks notes* March?? of 2022. However, then it kind of fell by the wayside for a while, gathering digital dust. When I started working on it in earnest again last year, I added updated screen shots to my reference files up through s7e05. So the model I built is accurate through that point.

Things like wall decor and various props will not necessarily match to current seasons. But they change that stuff pretty regularly between seasons anyway, so it’s not technically fully accurate to any one season.

There’s really not much that’s different in s8, so it’s not a big deal, but, where relevant, I’ve noted a few things I’ve noticed off hand while watching the episodes as they aired.

The dimensions and angles of everything are reasonably accurate. And the roof trusses are accurate to their location within the building and their height off the floor, but I let the program auto-generate all the cross beams and I left a lot of detail above that out, like the monitor roof and the lighting.

Also, I didn’t build anything that we haven’t actually seen. So those three corners of the building downstairs are just shown as big empty rooms. Are there walls and rooms in there? Probably! Can I show you them? Nope! I've seen glimpses through some of those doors in bts videos, and it seems like they store equipment in those sections irl.

All of the tumblr posts. The metas, the fan art, the gifs, the fan fics, the edits, the memes, the Neil asks. The constant flow of fan made content that will be both a painful reminder that it’s the last season, but also a soothing balm to guide us through the reality that the show is done.

It’s going to be beautiful, and it’s going to be ours. And I am so goddamn happy to be here for it.

I might be soooo late. Did you ever talk about the bts Ryan gave in his insta story with his flannel and the color of it being RED!!!!!

Hi, I didn't want to talk about this because at the time that video drops I was extremely annoyed because there was a very intense wave of people critisizing everything I said and then there was costume to analyze and suddenly it was all "Anna what does it mean" and I was feeling petty, but I'm in the mood to talk about it so let's go.

First of all, things note, it a red shirt with a red plaid overshirt.

@stagefoureddiediaz has talked extensively about what plaid means overall, I'll link her post about stripes and check here if you want more detail, but simplyfing it for the purpose of this post, it is about an internal turmoil for the characters.

But let's talk about the red and Eddie. A while back I offered the theory that the show might've been using red tones for Eddie in a similar way that they use green for Buck (you can read that post here, but ignore my questions about the bachelor party at the end because I forgot to consider the way their outfits are costumes so different rules), because the green is about a lot more then breakups with Buck, it's his something is wrong color.

Why do I think that they use red with Eddie and something being wrong? Well, Eddie doesn't wear red a lot. But here are some highlights (I'll talk about the others in a bit because that part is a lot more speculative), when Lena takes him to the first fight, kickstarting the fight club era, when he's talking to Bobby about the fight club and the Shannon of it all, when Chris leaves and the conversation with Chris that eventually kickstarts the move to Texas, and the meeting Kim arc, specifically when he's daydreaming a fake memory of Shannon and lying to Buck about being with out with Marisol and subsquent date.

So red ends up highlighting moments Eddie is not feeling in control. That paired with the emotinal turmoil attatched to plaid, makes that outfit interesting AS FUCK.

Plaid is attached to Texas with Eddie, we see it in the begins episode, we see it again in 8b, we also see it occasionally in the beginning of s2 when he's settling into living in LA.

All scenes that involve Eddie struggling with the situation he's in. And also a bit of Eddie's struggle with balancing what he thinks is best for the people around him and what he wants.

Attached to it all we also have the buddie parenting maroon. (Meta and the blue and red and parenting here), so, playing it safe, I'm assuming this outfit is gonna play a part on Eddie talking to Chris about coming back to la.

But let's face it, none of you is here to ask about me playing it safe with the colors. So let's expand.

The first date with Ana, Vanessa, AND Kim feature Eddie in red. Which can be very 👀 if we look at it in the sense that Eddie thinks dating is performative (and that he is queer). I personally don't believe Eddie is strictly gay (I think he believes he was in love with Shannon and that's what matters in the end) and I don't want the show to touch demi Eddie with a 10 foot pole, and I do think Eddie thinks the women he chooses to date are interesting in some form and he believes he can fall for them but ultimately can't because he's already in love with Buck. And I could put my personal bias aside and do the easy thing and say that the red here can be playing a part on his need for control and it being about maintaining the illusion of heterosexuality.

But either way I don't think he is conscious enough of his sexuality for me to truly make this argument, but it could very much be a representation of how the perfomative aspect of dating makes him feel like he's not in control, but if I wanna play in the sandbox that the red in his first dates can play a part on the overarching arc surrounding his queerness and Eddie trying to force himself into relationships because he wants love and thinks this is how he's gonna get it, the red in that outfit could play a part in the same thing if we place it in a space of Eddie being forced to accept he can't force it to happen. He is who he is and who he is is a man in love with his best friend who happens to also be a man.

Because another scene Eddie is wearing red is the conversation about the shooting in 612.

At this point, I think that the argument that Eddie had his oh moment during the shooting is no longer all that valid, but Imma be so real, I love the idea of the red here being about Eddie actively repressing what happened during the shooting so he doesn't have to confront what it means to him and the complications of being forced to talk to Buck about it. Time will go by, this scene will never be addressed, but dear God, Ryan played this scene with such a specific shift on Eddie's body language that I cannot be convinced that Eddie wasn't lying and there isn't more to what he knows about that day. And I love playing in the idea that he was lying because he can't admit he loves Buck at that moment because Buck didn't need the truth about what happened, he needed the hope that he would feel alive again.

So delusionland spec here, the red + the plaid could play a part on Eddie grappling with the depth of his feelings for Buck and his sexuality as a whole.
