My name is Alexander Michael Smith, or Kinger as my friends call me. I'm writing in this journal to jot down everything I can about the world around me. I fear I may forget again one day and hopefully this jorunal will be a crutch to me.

All this started when we all wanted to be free from this digital hell. Pomni, bless her soul, used Artsy to draw a door for us to escape through, and with Jax's help, he was able to unlock said door and let us all go but Caine wasn't going to let us go so easily.

He begged for us not to leave, saying it wasn't done yet and that he had lots of work he needed to do. Artsy told him she could draw the rest of the exit for him but by this time, Caine was too panicked to listen to anyone and cast us all to our rooms. Things only went downhill from there.

Artsy's drawing powers were removed, Jax's keys were taken, and everyone was kept under a very watchful eye... Especially Pomni. She had multiple eyes on her 24/7. It was unbearable, so unbearable that the others started to rebel against Caine.

First Jax, then Artsy, Pomni, Zooble, Gangle and Ragatha. But it wasn't enough, Caine didn't care what we wanted anymore and forced us to be his puppets, making our lives a living hell filled with overstimulation, bright colors, loud noises, ect. Some of us even came close to abstraction. It seemed that all hope was lost for us until Caine gave us an arts and crafts adventure, where there was a huge pencil sharpener, perfect for Artsy. She drew up another exit door and we left.

Caine tried to stop us, but we fought back, hitting and screaming like little kids throwing a tantrum. we pushed him through the void and he started to glitch, the world around us began to warp and glitch, but we didn't care, we were so desperate to get home. Soon, Caine began to glitch out of existence, leaving only his hat and cane behind.

We thought it was over until Bubble shot out and told us someone needed to take Caine's place. We were horrified but couldn't do anything about it. Bubble suggested we all play "Duck Duck Goose" and whoever was the last person out is the new ringmaster... Pomni lost...

She was forced to stay while we were all let go. I'm kinda glad I didn't see her face but I'm sure she was scared. We all said goodbye and left. Over the next few months, we came back to visit her, and were amazed at what she did to the circus and the whole game in general. It was magnificent, colors all over the place, but not the way Caine had made it, it was a lot more digestible and aesthetically pleasing.

Pomni seemed very happy with her new world and so were we, she gave us revamps of our former designs, with Artsy's help of course, and we came to see her whenever we could. But slowly we showed up less and less, forgetting about her entirely. She obviously had enough because the next time we saw her, she had trapped us in the circus and gave us horrible new forms, making our worst nightmare come to life.

Now all we can do is wait here for our next show...

Kinda wanna rant a little about what you have also remarked about Hirsch's shallowness

Recently in a tweet thread as he discussed what Mario chatacters would the main GF characters play, and his reply for Ford is rather dismissive and lame as he claims he would rage quit.

Honestly why deny that Ford would take this moment to bond with the family? If anything Stan would try to rage quit or rig the game.

Also on a tangent but at another panel when Hirsch was asked about Dipper's bubble, he said it would be some X Files fantasy. And now its being popularised with cracklinhaze's X Falls.

But I also kinda disagreed. Dipper isnt easily fooled. Even Bill said he has a will of titanium. He's far too inquisitive and paranoid to be taken in by something like that. Just as Mabel's bubble is formed from her greatest character flaw (denial and refusal to acknowledge reality for what it is), a similarly perfect trap for Dipper would be based on his greatest flaws: insecurity, low self-esteem, and an inferiority complex. Dipper is constantly questioning his self worth and his future. So I dont think Dipper's bubble would not be a Paradise Trap as was Mabel's. Dipper's would be a prison to break down his will and isolate himself so he can't let others down. To just say Dipper's bubble is another paradise trap is quite a disservice to his paranoid and inquisitive nature. He would see through Bill's tricks and it wont work on him.

Again, its very telling that if not for the writers, he actually has no idea of how to handle his own characters

eh while i do agree alex definitely needs his other writers to help round out characters and see different perspectives, i don't exactly really have any issue with the specific stuff you brought up

mostly cos the mario kart stuff is just another on a whim sorta hc tweet that isn't taken seriously considering his answer for mcgucket is "rolling in rusty springs" but also personally i don't mind the ford answer cos it makes me think of hanzo (my old hypocritical blorbo of many years ago) and i do relate to being a petty bastard cos of my competitive nature conflicting with my inability to also not do the start boost kjsahdskahda i would think it'd be pretty damn silly if alex was full on "ford claims he's above all video games" cos there's definitely a bunch of genres he would like and it's more funny if he had a specific grudge against kart games only (and like not racing or driving games in general. specifically kart)

i think stan's urge to rage quit would be tempered from soos having him play games with him for a decade but i think he also would also be petty at the game too and try to distract others for an advantage while unintentionally sabotaging himself

and it might be a bit of stretch (considering it's pre weirdmageddon so the general character dynamics are different) but i am reminded of ford going "why don't we all play dd&md together" wanting to bond over something he's specifically interested in, instead of taking a 20 min break from the game so the others could watch their show they've been excited about for days kashdskahd (i get why ford didn't want to watch ducktective cos why watch a season finale of a show you've never seen with zero context? but it does make the end of the ep having the characters go "yeah!! let's watch the finale!!!" and it immediately cutting to ford not being there kinda sad)

anyway while that type of trap is more character fitting, i think the bubbles are more about bill thinking that the perfect prison is one that the prisoner would never want to leave so i always assumed any character's bubble is always paradise lotus eater machine deal with implied hypnosis (which is why you see mabel snapping out of it and being kinda shocked that she was oblivious to the place being obnoxiously bright and playing the same song constantly)

and the thing is, dipper+wendy+soos all were swayed by her bubble too even when they knew exactly what's going on and that they had to stop bill. wendy and soos fell for the "just five more minutes can't hurt...." temptation and got stuck hitting that snooze button!!! and i feel like with soos' example of his fantasy dad, it shows that even though he moved on and does think of stan as his dad, the bubble itself kinda encourages character regression? idk

but i guess that's also supported by dipper getting a fantasy wendy who's basically like "all the stuff you worked through over the summer and that speech you literally gave to gideon a few hours ago about accepting that you won't always have your feelings returned but should be the best person you can be anyway? forget that!!! go be happy in this fantasy and never think feel bad again!" and he only broke through that cos fake!wendy winking reminded him of the shapeshifter

i think an interesting trap for dipper would be preying on that "don't trust anyone" mindset that ford unfortunately ended up encouraging further in last mabelcorn with bill getting a front row seat to that entire incident via the banners 😭

Digital Madhouse Chapter summaries

Chapter 1: Encrypted Code

We finally see Caine be deleted from the game and now there’s no ringmaster left. All that’s left of Caine is his hat and cane. Bubble suddenly pops out of the hat to tell everyone that someone needs to stay and be the new ringmaster. The others don’t wanna do it, but the Exit door closes and they realise someone needs to stay. They all play a game of duck duck goose and Pomni ends up being the loser so she has to stay and be the new ringmaster. The others leave and wish her farewell, but Pomni knows she’s going to be stuck in this hell forever.

Chapter 2: The Ringmaster’s New Order

We cut to Pomni after the gang first leaves her. She’s seen sitting on the floor in front of the exit door, wishing she could leave with them but knowing she lost fair and square means she must stay in this digital hell forever. Bubble sauntes over to her and throws her a ringmaster welcoming party with all the NPC’s she’s seen like Gummigoo, Looli, Martha, Orbsman, Disappearing Guy, ect and even Sunny and Moony who are trying to help her feel better. After the day is over, Bubble puts the hat on her head and cane in her hand… and then she feels it, the sudden power in her hands, the power to control everything around her. This new power is enthralling. It makes Pomni wonder what else she can do with her newfound power. She starts making new worlds, new rooms, games, everything until she realises this world is now hers. We see Pomni walk out of the circus and look into the void.

Chapter 3: Digits are Stronger than Water

At first when Pomni was creating these worlds, she wished her friends were here to see it all, they’d realise it’s still an amazing world that deserves to be cherished. Pomni got to decide what she looked like, what she did and with no setbacks from Caine, surely she could give her friends the same right? But she just didn’t know how to contact them until one day, Artsy suddenly appeared on the stage. Pomni was thrilled to see one of her friends again and before Artsy could say anything, Pomni got to telling her all about what she’d done to the grounds, the world and beyond. Artsy was astonished at her power and happily accepted to stay and see what form she could take. Pomni immediately got to work and gave Artsy a beautiful new look, she had an adorable rainbow dress with a brown paint brush scarf! Artsy wanted to tell everyone so she tried taking her headset off and it worked! So she told everyone and they all came back to the circus except for Zooble, they didn’t want to go back, and Pomni gave them all cool new forms and they would all visit her when they had free time, even Zooble finally came back. Ragatha now looked a lot more like Raggedy Anne, Gangle had her comedy mask non-breakable but still able to take it off, an actual staff for her ribbons to tie around with a cute hairdo and strawberry leg and arm warmers. Zooble just wanted to keep trying to find new parts that made them feel normal, Kinger had a more royal look, and Jax got to look more like a bunny. But after a while, they stopped visiting her, and she grew more and more lonely. With each excuse they gave, she became angrier too. She finally snapped when Ragatha lied to her, saying they’d all visit her for her birthday but they all forgot. Pomni vowed to trap them all, so they’d never leave her again. By this time she had completely forgotten what it was like to be ruled by Caine and made the same mistake he did, she gave them forms they hated and turned them into either their worst nightmares or monsters of what they previously were. She waited until they all came into the circus and trapped them asap. The last one to arrive was Zooble, which Pomni did trap but didn’t capture. She wanted a challenge so she let Zooble try to save their friends.

Chapter 4: Ready Player 1!

Once Zooble is in the game they realise what a mess Pomni’s made and tries desperately to take off the headset to no avail. Moony and Sunny quickly come to their aid and help them calm down. Once Zooble gets a grip on the situation and is caught up on what’s going on, the three will help to free all their former friends.

Chapter 5: Exploring the Grounds

Before they embark on their quest, Zooble is actually quite curious about how Pomni has changed everything. Sunny and Moony have become inanimate pins on their body. They look at the newly detailed circus grounds which have beautiful details and gold trims. The lake is shimmering and the grass is so green and real. The sky looks almost like the real world and the clouds are so puffy. He looks into the void which has floating islands with even more things on them, portals to lands unknown, beings and creatures that could only be made up in dreams. Zooble realises this world is terrifying, sure, but there’s a certain beauty to her chaos, one that transcends the human mind itself. While Zooble is so busy admiring the views, they fall off the main island! As they fall, they see the many wonders the void has to offer, they fall through a few portals only to stay for a few seconds before falling back into the void. Zooble isn’t too afraid until they see their starting to glitch! They call for help in which their two celestial friends pull them out of the void back onto the main island. Zooble thanks them for their help and decides they’ve had enough adventure for the day and goes into the circus tent.

Chapter 6: All Hail the Goddess

Zooble enters Gangle’s room to see it become a landscape of eerily serene, almost dreamlike fields of grass and clouds. Zooble comes across Gangle’s temple and finds her there, praying to herself. Zooble confronts her and while Gangle is still trapped under her plastic happy mask, she’s crying. Zooble goes to her and hugs her. They try to take off the mask but it’s stuck on. Gangle tells them that she can’t take it off either but Zooble sees a knot of ribbons on the back of her head and undoes it. The mask pops right off and Gangle is finally free, thanking Zooble and taking off her headset.

Chapter 7: The King’s Game

Next is Kinger. Zooble looks all over his garden for him but can’t find him, only a note at the center that says, “No need to look for me, I’m going to stay when you defeat Pomni, so please, move on.” Zooble still tries to find him but to no avail. They eventually give up and move on.

Chapter 8: She’s just a Ragdolly 

Third is Ragatha. Zooble finds her in her ballroom, dancing with many NPC’s around her, with thick strings strung up to white gloved hands. Ragatha has a plain cutesy smile on her face but every time Ragatha messes up, the string around her neck tightens, making her perfect smile falter. Zooble immediately gets to work, dancing through the crowd to the center to finally dance with Ragatha. The two dance gracefully, and with each cut of her strings, Ragatha begins to move on her own, eventually coming undone by her strings and is free to dance however she wants. The hands disappear as Ragatha takes her final bow and thanks Zooble, taking off her headset.

Chapter 9: Hopping up the the Plate

Zooble never wanted to save Jax but Moon and Sun had told them that if they want to stop Pomni, they need to free everyone. So with lots of grumbles and gripes, they did. Jax was in the middle of a huge crop field, basking in the autumn sun while being tied to his post. Zooble trudged through the seemingly endless corn maize and long rows of apple trees. All sorts of insects like centipedes, ticks, wolf spiders and more crawled all over Zooble but they didn’t really care much, they just wanted to get this over with. Jax was silent as all scarecrows are, but his eyes were filled with mischief, as if to say, “Hah, look at you and all those icky bugs on you.” Zooble was just about to turn back when the bugs started to bite them! Tiny but painful spikes that felt like needles poked at them as they swatted them off and stomped them in the ground. Jax’s eyes and mouth were even more curled, brimming with amusement. Zooble chopped him down and kicked off his headset, all the while he was laughing like a loon.

Chapter 10: The Pencils Need Sharpening

Artsy was the final of the corrupted humans, her door and the wall surrounding her door was like walking into a 1930’s cartoon, colorless and you could see a faint static layer like it was on an old tv. When Zooble walked in, a wave of nihilism washed over them, making them feel sluggish and tired. In a corner was Artsy, crying to herself as she tried to make herself as small as she could but only stayed the same size from her tears being absorbed back into her body. Zooble tried to comfort her but was splashed away. Artsy was trying to say something but all that came out was gargled paint. Artsy began to cry louder, throwing a tantrum in her art studio. Zooble didn’t know what to do so they sat and waited for Artsy to tire herself out. She did and slumped into a pool of grey slop. Zooble walked over to her and took a paint brush and they painted a picture of a simple background. Artsy did her best but only managed to smother the canvas in grey sludge. Zooble congratulated her and helped her draw more. At long last, Artsy made a tangible drawing of herself. Artsy began to cry tears of joy as she hugged Zooble and was able to take off her headset.

Chapter 11: A Chat with the Ringmaster

Once Zooble has finally reached Pomni’s room, that’s when the real show begins. Zooble goes into her room to a dark scenery. A huge spotlight shines on Zooble as Pomni greets her NPC audience to the show. Zooble confronts Pomni, asking her why she’s doing all this, that she’s insane, ect. Pomni only laughs as she springs into action, setting up a whole circus act with a snap of her fingers. Lion taming, trapeze acts, bunny out of a hat, ect. Zooble quickly gets fed up with her antics and tries to rip off her headset. Pomni shoves them away, reminding them of how everyone forgot her and now this was their punishment and now that Zooble has freed them, she never wants them to come back. Zooble tells her that we all have lives to live and we can’t always spend our time here. Pomni understands that but it used to be all the time, now it’s hardly ever and she just wants real company again. Zooble suggests they leave the circus together and let Kinger take over, that’s what he said in his note. Pomni was shocked that someone wanted to be a part of this hell and called him over. Kinger confirmed that’s what he wanted. Pomni was in disbelief, all this time she could’ve handed over the hat and cane to him and she could be free. She started to glitch violently, and so did Kinger and Zooble. They tried to free her from the headset but to no avail. It was jammed tight. She freed Zooble from their headset as she lunged at Kinger.

Chapter 12: Game Over

All this time she was wasting when he was right here, spending his days reminiscing on old memories, living blissfully in his late wife’s garden. Pomni cursed herself for giving him such a lavish life and damned him to an eternity of suffering, remembering only the horrid memories of his past, and every time he closed his eyes, he could see Queenie’s abstracted self. Pomni had lost all sanity and used her power to unleash all her pent up anger, sadness, desperation, and suffering onto the world around her. She was a hollow, angry husk of the jester she once was, and Kinger was just the same. Zooble may have freed everyone, but Pomni made sure to bring one last soul with her to damnation. The headsets were never able to be used again which meant they would be trapped there forever.
