The Nest of the Mud-Dauber Wasps that I Found

The nest of the mud-dauber wasps that I found in between my pile of books. Usually I like to crush their abandoned nests but this one is really nice, a work of nature's art, it's beautiful. The most likely species is Asian mud-dauber wasp (Sceliphron curvatum).

Their nests are structurally fragile, that's why i like to crush them with my fingers. Although they are parasitoids (not to humans), they are useful in reducing spiders. But yeah, I try to avoid them as much as possible, just as they avoid me because I'm human.

I set up a laundry basket with Bug's nesting material and she was okay with me putting the stand down and then putting the laundry basket in and then putting the padding in and then putting the cardboard in to simulate ground, and then I got to the quilt and the light came on and she realized that I was touching her nest and she just started biting me and biting me and biting me. So then I had to finish her nest while fending her off, but I did it. And once it was finished and I put her dummy eggs in (not hers, just eggs from Eris' pen that are empty) and she climbed in and laid on them. Furious with me for keeping her from her nest.

I hate it when people pretend to be wildlife advocates but think that wasps, mosquitos, ashe juniper, and other "nuisance" native species deserve to be wiped out and killed inhumanely for causing discomfort or pain in our lives. It's very selfish and ignorant thinking.

Life pro tip: a cheap butterfly net with telescoping handle is excellent for relocating small friends, especially if they’re skittish and obsessed with the ceiling.
