my respect and appreciation of the narrative and its characters who all serve important functions vs. my desire never to talk about this stupid man again

#i guess technically this is #anti fiyero tigelaar #bless jonathan bailey and your silly little buttons #but i feel myself progressively caring less the more people talk about fiyero #cool character concept fine execution not where the meat of the story is #and i'm getting so unreasonably cranky about people using his resistance as a moral gotcha to gelphie #(it's unreasonable because i know people can prefer whatever ship they want)#but a) the fundamental moral and method rift between gelphie is PART of that ship's appeal #and b) the stage musical does not do a very good job of framing fiyero's resistance as a moral one if that was the point #he likes that elphaba is principled and rebellious but #he is not driven by anti-fascist ideals #his arc is going from caring about nothing to caring about one (1) person #it's why fiyero and elphaba's ending in the musical is LEAVING THE FIGHT #anyway #*yells at cloud*

before i was able to access any gender-affirming care, and for a little while afterward too, i truly believed that there was no pride or joy to be had in being trans and that there was something wrong with me for not being cis. it's a long journey but i hope that one day you come to a place of love, compassion, and understanding for your body. i hope the HRT helps, i hope that every little secret fluffy hair you grow erodes the hatred and misery just a little, i hope for you to reach a place of pride and adoration for the transformative work that you are. find a way be proud of being cheye my brother, that's more important than anything.

i like being me ! i dont dislike my vessel as a whole, i suppose. im mostly okay with what i have. im sure I'll like it all more when everything falls into place, but not entirely.

but the not being cis thing will always be in the back of my mind i feel. not a present thing, cause well, why cry or be bitter over what we can do nothing about. but i think itll always engulf me at times... not proud of it, im not really proud of any identifier of the self other than the being sterilized thing LOL its just something i am, in the same way that im not proud of my favorite color being blue, or my current favorite food being stuffed bell peppers. its just something thats There. I'm sorry! My works are still very much on AO3, but they are locked and only visible to users logged in with an account. This is my unfortunate reaction to AI data scrapers stealing fic for their stupid generative AI.

I wish there were a way to have my wishes respected while NOT cutting off my works to people who want to read them. (┬┬﹏┬┬)

I mentioned it a little in this reblog post and added a line to my AO3 profile, but I could have announced it a little better. Whoops. (Can't believe my account is 14-years-old with an ID number still in the 5-digits. lol.)

I may roll back this decision eventually, given the overall futility of trying to keep anything from scrapers in the midst of this AI bubble, but either way, I would definitely recommend making an account on AO3. ♥ If you can't sign up automatically, I have invite codes.

Is it wrong for me to like, dislike FNaF more and more for what it has done to the interest in animatronics?

While I won't deny that it has undoubtedly gotten a ton of people interested in them, I also feel that it has had the opposite effect to where people almost exclusively associate animatronics with Five Nights at Freddy's. While a lot of it is just children having their fun, I think the IP itself has done nothing but underutilize and not really explain what animatronics actually do and how they function. Virtually every mech (referred to as an "endoskeleton") in FNaF is an identical humanoid shape with no special feature or function that you'd often see as the particular focus point of a character. Now I understand that this is partially the fault of Scott using the relatively uniform one stage Chuck E band as a base, it continues to perplex me how the series is dipping its toes into the 70's and there's still not a sign of more simplified or specialized mechs. Imagine the horror that could come from an animatronic bound to a specific purpose such as drumming or playing a guitar, or a portrait-like character dragging themselves towards you? The new game is set in a factory and I genuinely could not tell you if there's any inspiration taken from the famous Creative Engineering warehouse or not. There's also no real character to a lot of the FNaF cast, let alone any banter between them. The animatronics in the ENTIRE series interact once, and it's Roxanne yelling at Freddy to get out of her room, with Freddy's half of the exchange being cut... yeah. The closest thing we've gotten to a showtape is also from Security Breach, which is again absent any voice acting and was also outsourced to a likely underpaid VFX studio... great. You have so many unique personalities, so many angles you could approach to an animatronic character, and the current main antagonist of the series is a mech with zero personality. It's a bummer, right? And now you have the FNaF books, whom half of which barely even feature characters resembling real animatronics anymore, they just throw whatever in because it'll sell no matter what. As someone who grew up going to Chuck E Cheese back when they had animatronics as well as seeing constantly in my life through other means before FNaF, it's really disappointing that the IP wears them like a skinsuit and does virtually nothing with them that real animatronics do. The characters don't interact, they don't sing any songs, and now it seems more and more like the series wants to advance on from them altogether. There seriously needs to be another piece of animatronic media that rescues them from the endless gray sludge of mediocrity that is Five Night's at Freddy's.

It’s wild how shipping culture has changed so drastically over time on the internet.

In the old days people shipped characters who either had only one line of dialogue with each other, never even met, or not even from the same piece of media. It was the wild west and sure some ships were uncomfortable but people had the mindset to just block the tag and stay away from ships they didn’t enjoy.

Nowadays? It’s more like people have to clarify that their ship isn’t canon compliant, character adjacent, and story irrelevant otherwise they get a flood of comments saying “but this character isn’t like this in canon” and some people legitimately get angry if you’re not following the canon.

Like- shipping and fandom culture from what I understand it is about engaging with media in a way that caters to you. And if you don’t like a ship or show just… block the relevant tags and don’t engage in the ships? The internet isn’t supposed to cater to us- we have to cater ourselves to our internet environment. And no matter how many times people may harass others over a fandom or ship they don’t like, those ships are not gonna disappear.

The internet has just been getting worse when people have decided to place morality in their opinions by saying things like “if you enjoy the ship then you support (insert horrible thing here that’s usually completely unrelated to the ship itself)” when it used to be “eh, not my thing” and people just moved on.

And for the record this isn’t about a specific ship or anything- just an observation of how fandom has evolved (and regressed) over the years and I find it fascinating from a sociological perspective cause we still don’t know how having the internet from birth affects the development of kids and how that affects how they interact with others- isn’t that scary?

I know that’s slightly unrelated but the way people engage in media has been changing over the years and that also involves fandom and the maturity level thereof in the internet space and someone smarter than me could probably write a whole thesis paper about fandom culture and how the internet has hindered the social development of people and how that affects community specifically from a fandom lens.

Just- for your sanity younger internet children: it’s not worth harassing others over something as trivial as ‘it’s not canon that this character kisses another character.’ Just find ships you like. Block ships you don’t. And just enjoy your time doing what you like!

You can’t control the internet but you can nurture your little corner of it.
