too  many  emotions  swimming  in  the  once  human's  mind  makes  it  hard  to  focus  on  anything  else.  she's  well  aware  of  what's  going  on  around  the  dusk  court  –  of  the  fear  of  dragons  and  child  king  –  but  lux  can  only  seem  to  focus  on  her  own  problems.  it's  annoying,  and  rather  than  allow  herself  to  wallow,  the  autumn  fae  chooses  to  make  her  way  to  a  secluded  area  outside  of  town,  not  near  buildings  or  trees,  and  forces  herself  to  actually  practice  the  magic  she  fears.  taking  a  deep  breath,  lux  begins  to  grow  a  small  fire  ball  between  her  hands,  extinguishing  it  quickly  when  she  hears  steps  behind  her.  "  quite  dangerous  to  approach  a  fire  fae  when  they  are  practicing.  "  she  hums.

it’s the fact that it’s called the virgin suicides when they all knew that Lux wasn’t a virgin, just because the pretence that she died a virgin furthers the boys’ objectification by making each of the Lisbon sisters into their idea of a "perfect" woman. saintly, pure, unsullied, a Madonna. the boys erase the events and information that make the girls seem too human. while virginity is frankly a stupid, outdated, misogynistic construct, to the boys in the narrative, virginity is an important virtue for women. i doubt they know if any of the girls were actually definitely virgins when they died. but they emphasise that trait as part of their idolisation of the girls, which is really just thinly, prettily veiled objectification…
