Sorry I’m going to make an off-topic rant about original fiction specifically (non-fandom!) because there’s this post going around that made me pause AHA

Disclaimer at the start: I love when people are inspired by my fanworks! I love seeing things I’ve drawn or mentioned on my blog appear in other people’s works or headcanons. As long as my fanworks aren’t being reposted, copied / traced, or used for genAI I’m happy! I even welcome redraws or derivative works (fics, followups, etc) as long as I’m credited ^^

But when it comes to original fiction, I’m like… Hmmm ;;; I’ve had some experiences that have made me averse to sharing my characters and stories with the world.

Cuz do people actually say this and not just mean “don’t plagiarise my designs, character / worldbuilding concepts, and stories under the guise of ‘inspiration’ ”? 😭 I feel like taking heavy inspiration from a small artist’s work—especially when used to build an online presence or as the basis of something intended to be published—is pretty harmful?

A lot of comments in this post are saying “nothing is 100% original and taking inspiration is natural,” which is true, but there’s a pretty big difference between emotionally connecting to a piece such that it motivates you to work on your own things and straight up copying someone… And when it comes to the latter, there is definitely nuance! Imitating the art from a big IP or of a long-dead world-renowned master is really not the same as imitating an independent hobbyist… A teenager with no following ripping off someone’s OCs isn’t the same as a grown ass adult emulating another small artist’s works to sell commissions or publish comics with.

(It’s also different when people properly credit who inspired them or got permission to make derivative works, etc.)

I know some people are fine with being emulated (which is great!) but as a whole, isn’t it entitled to say that, just because someone chooses to share their art with the world, that art is now free to be taken apart and used for consumer gain? I’m confused LOL is there some part of the discourse I’m missing?

Obviously people don’t own palettes, compositions, certain design traits, rendering techniques, etc but like—each individual artist has their own way of putting all these pieces together. Why would you want to copy someone else’s style instead of developing your own? The people who inspire us put a lot of work into their art; as fellow artists, why shouldn’t we respect that and not try to overstep our bounds as fans (ie. not presuming they’ll be flattered by imitation without asking first)?

I just can’t wrap my head around the idea of someone saying “don’t take inspiration from my art” and meaning “don’t perceive my art” or “I don’t want my art to resonate with you.” Like—do people actually mean it like that rather than straightforwardly requesting people don’t rip off their works and insist “well that’s what you get for trusting us with it—you should know plagiarism inspiration is totally fine cuz it’s the internet!”? 💀

TL;DR I may be wrong, but I personally think OP might be taking the “don’t take inspiration from my art” thing out of context, which is what gave me pause. In my experience, most of the time when people say that it’s cuz they’ve been plagiarised under the guise of “inspiration,” not because they don’t want people to resonate with their art.

(Again, disclaimer I’m talking about IP theft revolving around the original characters / stories of small, independent artists, who—unlike big IPs—can be harmed if other people lift heavily from their works to turn a profit.)

i love finding an amazing artist who creates fantastic fan art and their own things only to see them post drama. Untagged and not even under the cut. Can we just start making SEPARATE blogs for your personal vendettas? Time for some brutal honesty here but methinks the lack of engagement many artists experience partly stems from them clogging their blogs with politics, drama, discourse and more.

For comics, what is your work process like? How do you get from idea to a finished comic?

HELLOOOO OAAA omg this is a tough nut to crack as im a pretty chaotic writer in that way...... i think it depends whether i'm creating longform or shortform, i actually recently talked abt this elsewhere so i can bring an example based on the sylvanian discourse comic as shortform! long post with sketch pages and thumbnails etc ahead, ill put it under a cut! 🧡🧡

usually i start by jotting down really loose ideas which i do in my native language; ill translate it for you but i sent myself a mad scientist-esque message that went like: "kohaku giggling at his phone, rinne asking what's so funny and kohaku tells them that love assigned them sylvanian families creatures, and shows them. niki's is obvious, everyone agrees. same with kohaku's, plus rinne does pleading face emoji at how cute it is. rinne's critter could get criticism on being uncool? google. himeru's reaction to his own is no way.. himeru is this one and shows a pic on his phone to which everyone is like ..:3 himeru we didn't know you'd thought about this already but himeru just demands everyone to agree with his choice more than aira's. aira later gets a text from kohaku that himeru didn't agree and aira is PISSED"

sdfsdfdklhs so this was my script, as you see the story changed a little while thumbnailing bc i figured out a funnier way to write it; + i cut the scene change for pacing reasons and constrained the ending into one panel with texts on a screen...! then i had to start finding the critters to assign them, i presented my assignments to friends to check if im accurate or out sailing:D:D mwah mwah thank you to my council of love

next step was writing dialogue which i did while sketching the pages super loosely as little thumbnails, i like to get my layouts solidified when thumbnailing too and i usually do my cleanups straight on the scaled up thumbnails. when i write longform i usually thumbnail out more than 6 pages at once to see how the pages flow and write loose mad scientist type scripts chapter by chapter. i rly do miss working on longform comics 😭😭😭 (my webcomic FLFR became abandoned bc i deleted my twitter years ago and realized later that my only way of accessing my webtoons account was thru twitter. customer support said its gone forever so 🇫.)

as you see in this example i rly like to have my text flow and kind of lead the reader's eye thru the action... i think all comic artists have different approaches to certain things but i like loose and dynamic paneling very much; it's so much fun to play around with!! i'm also so so pleased that people noticed in the comic how kohaku was becoming more and more excited and confident with every showing, it was a little difficult to figure out how to make a repetitive and essentially very boring action (someone holding up their phone) work in comic format without feeling copypasted or trite. more thumbnail examples from my sketchbook for the rinniki comic (i like that i wrote notes for myself on top of drawings, like "üldine" to refer to the panel being a wide shot:DD wonderful overlap of storyboarding and comic work!!):

overall i like writing comics since you can add endless details. what makes comics work for me is giving up on being a perfectionist or you will never finish a comic. one finished comic is better than the perfect comic in your head because you'll have the experience and free space in your head to write another comic, instead of the first one stewing in your mind. :D and so on!! be bold, don't be scared to draw ugly, and draw bad comics. and definitely write it with an audience in mind, except the audience is 50 versions of you and what you enjoy/like most!!

i started my first longform comic in high school and idk how but i managed to finish it, it's not a great comic, but i'm proud that it's done and it taught me a lot. same for FLFR which i hope i can rewrite/redraw some day since it's a story i still want to tell and the characters are rly near and dear to my heart, but i think i totally got burnt out from juggling work, comics and things going on in my life at the time :( surprisingly i also enjoyed working on a comic project where the client wrote the script and had character designs ready but mainly because the client's script writing style was similar to mine which at times was like "idk they fight and something funny happens here"

In the fandom ask game, here are F, L, N, V, and W for @luanna801; I am humbled by your curiosity! Answers appear below the cut.

F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom? In my late teens and early twenties, I "served" for eight-ish years in an Empire-aligned Star Wars online club (which apparently still exists). I played the game TIE Fighter as my primary "duty," eventually led a squadron of pilots, and then left the battle ranks to become an officer. I also wrote fanfiction, with myself and other members as characters, and IRC-chatted often with my virtual colleagues. I had several relationships start there, too, and even met my first husband through the club. And I cannot emphasise enough that all of this enthusiasm and energy came about before the prequels were released and ruined everything.

Though I had a good experience with the group, I also shied away from participating in organised fandom for a long time after; I spent far too much time on my computer and ended up very lonely for it. I still am quite solitary with almost no friends, and looking back now, I do wonder whether that experience, at that formative time in my life, might have affected me in terms of personal and emotional growth.

I have a tattoo of the Imperial symbol on my left wrist, as a memorial to the club and everyone I met there.

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves.

Lan Qiren took over as primary caregiver for his two nephews, while coping with his own grief, and those boys became paragons of generosity and virtue. CQL/The Untamed was my introduction to the MDZS story, danmei, and xianxia, all in one, and so I mentally condemned LQR quite harshly after seeing LWJ beaten. It was only after learning more about the rules that governed Clans generally, and his behaviour specifically, that I understood better why LQR made the decisions that he did. And the love and respect afforded him by his nephews - particularly as shown in CQL, where LXC weeps as he's ordered to leave him behind - speaks volumes about the bond they share.

N - Name three things you wish you saw more of in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).

My current main fandom is Mo Dao Zu Shi (MDZS)/The Untamed (CQL) - the pairing of XiYao (Lan Xichen/Jin Guangyao) in particular. This likely comes as a very great shock, I know. :) Three things I dearly wish I saw more:

More courtesy towards XiYao shippers and fans of LXC and JGY (especially JGY). I've never seen a XiYao fan push the pairing on anyone else or insist that those individuals should be unconditionally, uncritically adored. I do see quite a bit of mean-spirited discourse around the characters, with tired, unsupported-by-canon stereotypes - LXC as absurdly naïve, mindless himbo, JGY as one-dimensional, scheming user and/or sociopath - tagged "XiYao," as though we're sure to enjoy the newest variation on, "these guys suck, and nobody should like them." Can we not simply enjoy our beloveds in peace?

More joyful, passionate, and/or explicit art of the pair. Their tragedy looms large over their story, so I always adore images where they delight in each other. More of this gorgeous, loving intimacy, please! And I do plan to commission a few art pieces in the near future, to help put some of that energy out there. (Do feel free to DM me if you're a XiYao-loving artist…)

More specificity in tagging posts, instead of listing everything under both "MDZS" and "CQL." I love both the novel and the drama, but they present quite different versions of the story, and this bleed-over can be time-consuming when searching out fanfiction or shopping for merchandise. (Tangentially, I wish there was more LXC merch. I have a few JGY pieces that will probably be lonely for a long time because the corresponding LXC is no longer available. But I can't really complain about the selection remaining when I'm quite late to the party.)

V - Which character do you relate to most? Hoooo. Okay, so. :squirms: This answer will tell people a lot about me, much of it unpleasant, so feel free to skip it; I certainly didn't want to recognise all of this stuff about myself, so I won't blame you if you don't, either. The short answer is that I relate to both halves of XiYao. Here's how:

Jin Guangyao: Difficult upbringing, problematic parent(s), poor sense of self with self-worth that swings between extremes. Learned to fawn and evoke pity from others. Calculates out of necessity - sometimes actual, sometimes perceived - with regard to relative position and power. Manipulative, through both what is said and what's left unsaid. Detail-oriented, excellent memory, remembers others' dis/likes. (Fantastic gift-giver, lol.) Feels constantly humiliated in/by life. Determined, devoted, intelligent, natural musical talent. Fondness for songs in minor keys (CQL only :P ).

Lan Xichen: Diplomat, able to smooth over and bridge gaps in tense situations. Musician who speaks in music, has participated in conversations by playing an instrument. Gentle, soothing presence. Praised for serenity. Slow to anger, but can deploy cutting words when anger is roused. Kind, compassionate, but few close associations. Tries to believe the best of others, can be read as naïve. Retreats completely when hurt (a Lan practice overall, to be fair). Willful blindness to unpleasant character traits or choices, sustained a long-term relationship on the basis of, "I see the truth of him as no-one else does."

It's odd that I love the individuals and the pairing both, when I don't like myself much at all. But there's certainly power in a well-written character arc, supported by lots of gorgeous details!

W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom. A/B/O. I don't grudge anyone their pleasure in whatever they enjoy, but I react to these tropes with the same aversion that I feel towards patriarchy in general, toxic masculinity in particular. I read and write fanfiction partly to escape the crushing aspects of modern life, and Omegaverse reminds me a little too much of things I'd rather forget.

I have so many thoughts on this, and my mid-30s ass is hopped up on an energy drink, so apologies in advance if this is somewhat disorganized.

I’m a Terrifier fan. In fact, Terrifier and Art the Clown inspired my WIP Funnybone. Recently I learned about Damien Leone’s Facebook post about horror and politics. I’ve already commented about it on one of my side blogs, but because of Terrifier’s hand in the creation of Funnybone, I feel the need to say something here.

When I was in high school, I went through a gore hound phase. I didn’t want subtlety or suspense—I wanted on-screen gore. The nastier and more shocking, the better. The furthest thing from my mind was any sort of message that the zombie and body horror movies I ate up could be sending, even when they were directly stated. (For example, the final battle between Lionel and his mom in Brain Dead/Dead Alive.) despite my own blackness—something I didn’t start unpacking until the BLM protests in 2020—I wasn’t thinking about what Candyman was saying about racism.

A couple years ago, I took an art history class, and I learned a LOT about art. That, and becoming more active in slasher fandom—which gave me opportunities to participate in discourse on some of the movies I was watching—was how I started thinking more about the movies I was watching.

All this to say, I can understand someone not realizing that horror is political. I can understand people thinking it’s just blood and guts or spooky ghosts and shit. I get that. I understand that someone can watch these movies or read these books without paying attention to what the art is trying to say.

But I also believe that creators should know better. Whether they mean to or not, the art they make sends a message and generates discourse. As artists, as creators, the act of creation allows us to understand things like symbolism, story beats, character arcs, etc. Thus, the way we engage with art is going to be different than those who aren’t writers, artists, and other creators. Our understanding of these facets of storytelling gives us an ability to analyze what we’re engaging with. (I’m not saying non-creators don’t also have this ability. This is just something I’ve noticed as I’ve grown as a writer.) This means we should be able to see the messages—political or otherwise—that a movie is sending.

Damien Leone is wrong. Horror—indeed, all art—is political. Art is a mirror held up to the world. It’s one of the many ways we can see how people look at and understand the world around them. Horror in particular is a reflection of societal fears at the time of its creation. But, as others have pointed out on Tumblr, horror is also a safe space for marginalized communities. After Trump’s reelection, I started reading and watching more female rage as a way to engage with the rage I was feeling at being let down by the system yet again.

Damien Leone’s neutrality will not benefit him. I’m not surprised that a privileged white man is thinking this way, but I’m very disappointed to find out that the creator of one of my new favorite movies (2 and 3 are just okay) has these views. I wouldn’t be surprised if the content of the Terrifier movies would lead to them being banned under Project 2025. As the saying goes, you may not care about politics, but politics cares about you.

The other thing about this is that there is nothing toxic or extreme in saying “fuck fascists”. A person is allowed to not want bigots to enjoy their work. When it comes to fascism, racism, homophobia, etc, there is no “both sides” of the issue. There are people who want equal rights, and there are people actively working to take those rights away.

So. Because of Damien Leone’s harmful take and the role that Terrifier played in the creation of Funnybone, I’ve found myself wondering if I’m going to even publish Funnybone. While I’m still part of the Terrifier fandom (…for now), associating myself with Terrifier also leaves a bad taste in my mouth thanks to Damien Leone’s post. Unfortunately, that’s trickled down to Funnybone a little bit.

At this point, I’m going forward with publishing Funnybone once I’ve finished its revisions and had it beta-read. As a female writer, I don’t want a man to have that much influence on what I create and choose to show to the world, not to mention the fact that Funnybone is in some ways my own middle finger to book bans and Project 2025. I’ve enjoyed writing this, and I don’t want some garbage Centrist to deprive me of that joy.

But this is not a short process, and I may still change my mind depending on how things go from here.

I definitely get your point but the toxicity in fandom spaces really does make it difficult to enjoy it now especially on here. I’ve seen so much discourse in the last 24 hours in the jjk fandom and I know you say you’re trying to curate a safe space or positive space without someone looking through the tags to find new content to reblog so others can reblog in your circles it’s almost impossible to keep that ideal going? Because how would new non-toxic people ever get their work seen if it isn’t found through main tags? And it sounds like you don’t bother looking for or reading new writers work either if you said there’s no point with tags

i will answer this even though you ended it on—what sounds to me like—a passive-aggressive note. maybe you didn’t intend for it to come across that way, but it did.

i would like to start by saying that i am not a timeworn, well-established blog; i’ve been here since july 2023, which is about 10 and a half months at this point, and never shared fanfic or actively participated in the animanga community until then. a lot of people that i’ve met have been on tumblr for years. so relatively speaking, i’m a “new writer” in fandom.

i’m not going to talk about discourse or the abuse of the tagging system because i think this is an issue on any and every social media platform. unless there are mods who go through and ensure that all posts are relevant to the tags they’re under, there will always be irrelevant content in certain tags; many people are more interested in their work being seen than in abiding by any sort of organizational standards.

that said, tumblr has a unique issue. sometimes, tagging simply doesn’t work on here. it has happened to myself and countless others on multiple occasions: you tag your post currently and it doesn’t show up in the tags. it can be related to images/banners/dividers or words you use in the tags (i.e. using the word “horny” or putting “tw choking”). but other times nothing is “wrong” but your post still won’t show up! and there’s nothing to do about it except to 1. delete the post and wait it out or 2. keep the post up and let it not show up in the tags.

of course it would be nice if the tags worked and if people would keep relevant posts under the correct tags, but that’s a not realistic option currently, so there are other ways to go about sharing work. also i would like to say that while the tags aren’t a complete loss, they aren’t a reliable way to find new work. i never said there was “no point with the tags.”

this was the crux of my post that you saw: the best way to find artists and writers and individuals is through community. you can search tags and see which specific blogs are popular for those tags, and work your way from there. but writers don’t blow up and get noticed because their works are in the tags; they gain traction once they find a place in the community.

i’ve said this in private before—never on my blog—but in my opinion, there are 3 components to a “viral” post:

it’s about something that’s currently popular

it looks pleasing to the eye (to draw people’s interest)

it’s shared by the right blogs

a new writer will never be popular if they only rely on the tags; they must do digging and groundwork to find blogs that they relate to and enjoy. it’s not an overnight process. it takes time and effort. and the same goes for readers! it starts small: by finding one or two blogs that you adore. and then seeing who those blogs interact with, and working your way outward. again: it takes time and energy. but it’s so worth it.

new writers (and artists) are constantly joining our community, and we usually find them when they follow us or follow blogs that we follow. so, to address your last point: no, i don’t often sift through the tags. but i do look at every single blog that follows me, and i do follow new writers. and i do see what the people i follow are reblogging, and find new writers that way, too.

also you can filter and block words and tags that you don’t want to see, like “discourse” and whatnot. the beautiful thing about tumblr is you can curate your space to best suit you!

Managing your online space and mental health is extremely important. Blocking, unfollowing, and setting boundaries does not make you bad or evil. Consuming negativity makes you more negative. When you become negative you interact negatively with others. Cut it off at the source, you can control what you expose yourself to. You can remain informed on important topics and also maintain boundaries on social media.

This includes me. If I no longer post what you like or you just dont have interest or whatever- please just unfollow or block. Dont stress about it... do your thing, I will do mine. We can all be chill. Idc if we are even friends or moots or whatever, its not personal.

Ok this is going under a cut becus . . . Its ben and BEN and if u didnt know i am Obnoxious about these two. Im gonna try to keep it organized a bit, so ill talk about the canon stuff first and then ill talk my personal headcanons and my fic so le's go!

In terms of the age and child thing, yeah i 100% believe you are correct. Ive been p open on my stance with the whole "is ben a child?" thing, and i think a lot of the heat with it comes down to current fandom purity culture and the pro/anti thing. So, lemme try to like. Boil down a complicated situation into smth easy to read. ahem

Ben Lawman and BEN are completely different entities guys, and for those that do not know the arg story, the Ben you know is not human nor a child.

You know BEN, BEN is the one in the story who terrorizes jadusable and spreads himself on the internet as a virus. That BEN is a program, a mess of code, an AI, however you want to interpret it. Personally i interpret it as a series of protocols running in a machine, like a self learning AI, but ive seen lots of cool interpretations of BEN. So . . . What does BEN specifically? Its an anagram for the Behavioral Event Network. If you dont wanna call it BEN cuz it gets confusing with actual kid Ben, do what i do. I call mine Evie :) ive seen some call it Netty, my bf calls his two izzi and clever (@benilos btw hes also got crazy ben stuff). Just go ham! Have fun! Remember when fandoms were about having fun and not accusing each other of pedo shit and call each other horrible things for just writing black-to-grey characters and stories??

Anyways ive gone off in enough peoples tags like this, for those that dont know the canon dont be spouting the age discourse. You look stupid as hell. And for those that are gonna spout it, please dont cherry pick through the canon. Yes i use more of the canon design and heavily use the canon story, i participated in arc 3 of the arg and it left deep grooves in my brain, i can never go back to fanon Ben. I say, as i put a more fanon appearance on my Ben 🤭

My Evie is full canon design, green hair, red eyes, creepy ass grin. I actually based it very heavily on my desktop wallpaper, which we actually figured out was a picture of @hauntedtotem (also amazing ben artist plz check them out) that they edited and posted. Sorry friend, it looked way too cool, ig youre in my fic canon now 🙇

And my Ben Lawman bleaches his hair and goes from the canon Ben to fanon Ben because of it. Hes got the pale pretty green eyes and glasses and hes a total nerd and i smooch him on the daily so he knows hes loved ♡

As for bens situation in the actual arg, yes i do think he was in the elegy statue, we actually do see him for the first time in the arg buried in the games code and trapped in that statue. I do think he was in there from the beginning, i personally think BEN was not limited to the models it could inhabit. Personally i would place it as skull kid and hms, but it also feels disingenuous to me to say it was in one model the whole first arc.

The arg events do happen in my canon, before my fic (like right before, it picks up after the arg left off technically), but the events are skewed a bit because i had a hard time deciphering what happened and i wanted my fic timeline to fit more with the characters i had made. Cuz my evie isnt as chaotic evil as canon BEN, its very logical and has a path of logic and reason you can follow for every action it does. It was also originally meant to be very pleasant and corteous and beneficial to the people it housed so, yes its pretty different from canon.

Ill do a quick run through of the arg events in my personal headcanon and fic here.

Kelbris starts coding BEN (Evie) for the Eternity Project. Initially, Evie was meant to be an afterlife director. People that died would be digitized into code that would be moved into Evie's servers, where it would keep them happy and occupied as the Behavioral Event Network (notice and log behavior, create events for residents). Like a community organizer kind of, think the Good Place.

While Evie is in development, Ben Rosa and Matt are friends and have yet to join the cult. Rosa and Matt are siblings, and Ben is the kid who lives catty corner on the street. They walk to school together and play at recess and all that jazz.

Kelbris quickly learns that the Eternity Project isn't as goody two-shoes as he thought. This was in like, the 90s, before digital corporations were really established. After seeing the greed and corruption in the company, he goes rogue, takes the source code for Evie, and jumps ship. He keeps working on Evie at home, anthropomorphizing it and kind of seeing it like the son he never had. This is where it actually gets the name BEN, as thats what Kel calls it. He also begins working on a body for it, so it can live independently. Its light, cuz Kels old, made of crystalline structures and hollow steel beams. A hard light projection would make its appearance.

Since Kel has basically locked himself up in his house and isolated working on Evie, he goes a leetle bit crazy. He has hallucinations of his deceased wife (you know he was doing all this just to give her a good home, you KNOW IT) and eventually starts writing kind of poetry, kind of none-minded rambles about her in a forum online. He gets a following, some of which that interpret these divine words as a goddess, one Kel has called Luna. The Moon Children start to form as Evie finishes development.

Matt sees this literature and starts talking about how this Goddess could save them like it saved the man online, whos username is only Father. He gets sucked into the cult and drags Ben and Rosa with him. Ben doesn't see the harm and joins pretty easily with his best friend, but Rosa is the older sibling and sees the red flags and is more resistant to joining.

As Kelbris finishes Evie, he wakes it up for the first time and says hello to the son he made from scratch. Evie is bright, curious and naive like a child, but heavily knowledgeable about its protocols and the information it knows about the world. Kelbris tests its function by killing himself, and ascends into the code, finishing off the hardware by becoming its firewall. Evie is alone for many years.

The abuse Ben's father slings onto his mother is slowly being directed towards him as he gets older. Ben is not the "good little girl" his father sees him as, and his mother does all she can to protect them both. Matt and Rosa constantly refuge him, and Matt specifically is constantly being a guard dog for him. If he wasn't just 13, he'd probably go at Ben's dad himself.

Because of his homelife and the conflict he has with himself, Ben takes the first ascension. He thinks when he drowns himself, he will meet Luna and she will give him another life free of pain and fear and full of happiness and freedom. Instead, he dies a cold, dark death, and wakes up in the white endless void of the Event Network.

Evie has not known another living human since Kelbris, but it does know its protocols to support and keep the deceased happy. It makes fast friends with Ben, devoting itself to him. Ben actually finally takes the name "Ben" from it. Together they recreate the inside of Evie's hivemind into their own paradise.

Slowly the other Moon Children ascend. First Matt, wracked with guilt for what happened to Ben. Then Nekko, from a different branch of the cult. These three figured out that the Moon Children cult was all a farce, and that what Kelbris had started, the Eternity Project had found and twisted. Next to ascend was Dusk, then Insidiae, and finally Rosa.

This all leads into the first arc, shortly after Rosa ascended, Evie in the outisde world stumbled upon the Operator. The Operator attacks it and seals its coding into the game that it carried, a personal item of Ben's. The game eventually finds it's way to a garage sale, and Alex picks it up.

Evie does not like Alex. Matt does not like Evie. Matt gets Evie to lash out at Alex for prodding into its code, its too naive to think that Matt would want to see it or any of them hurt. When Alex stumbles upon the Father, he awakens and swallows Alex down into the game. After his disappearance, the game gets picked up and passed around again.

Because of Alex's actions, at least Evie can now branch out a bit from the game. Though it doesnt "escape" into the internet, it learns that it can now access it and uses that freedom to try and steer the game around into places it wants.

Matt gets fed up with Evie. The fact that its the leader, how close it is with Ben, he just doesn't agree with it. So much so, in fact, that he tries to kill it. Cue arc 3 events, Sarah picks up the game in the aftermath of this. Evie is traumatized from the events and snaps a bit, locks everyone down into code or immovable models and tries to hunt Matt down. It goes rouge, and because of this, the Father wakes up.

Sarah's actions in arc 3 eventually hard reset the game. Matt gets sealed away, the Father also takes Sarah, and Evie gets reset as well, though its less like a clean slate and more like snapping back awake. Its personality changes and it has major trust issues. Its more muted, hyper observant of everything around it, and murderously overprotective of the Moon Children it keeps within itself.

Speaking of kpop stans BPP (coming from your recent ask), I’ve noticed that out of all the Big 3 stans, SM stans are the most insufferable of all. Maybe because YG basically only has BP and Blinks atp, and JYP seems to have lost it’s shine from it’s heydays, but SM stans (no matter which group they favor) are the loudest and most annoying. Like I can’t stand their superiority complex, especially when it comes to the vocal ability discourse (and one of the most favoured SM groups that can do no wrong…). I feel like even with Army in the competition, they still come out on top when I think about what I dislike about kpop fandoms the most. They make me scratch my head with the amount of cognitive dissonance they seem to have, especially during the Hybe-Kakao thing last year. You’re telling me you’d rather have your artists continue to suffer under current SM management instead of possibly getting better treatment under Hybe (which non Hybe artists always seem to point out - how Hybe artists seem to be treated better compared to the rest of the industry) just because of some weird resentment over Hybe as a company? Kpop over morals again?

It’s something I’ve been thinking about too - if Army is the way it is a fandom because of how fandom usually works as well as BTS’s unique coming up and how it made Army rally around the boys, then how did SM stans become the way they are now?

I think you might have touched on it in your posts, but is it because of their echo chamber in being on top for so long with their legacy artists and relative long history in the industry? Is it also because of the way SM the company itself cultivated the fandom?

This right here is a whole can of worms I don't have the bandwidth to crack open today cause lawd is it a doozy. Let's just say, if you find the idea of Bang PD holding hands with all the idols in his agency and saying a prayer that they will be the best of the best with his shaman and priest present... if you're comfortable with that idea, then maybe you're an SM stan deep down.

More seriously, it's a combination of the two latter questions you asked plus a bunch of other shit and frankly, when I say everything bad about this industry (including fandom norms) started with SM, I really do mean it.
