Tim, crashing through a skylight: Red Hood what are you doing

Jason: Red Robin, how good of you to join us.

Tim: can you just like. Stop.

Jason: not unless you admit that I was right about that argument we had 3 weeks ago

Tim, thinking:

Tim: THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH EATING MAC AND CHEESE WITH A SPOON

Jason: YES THERE IS

Jason, getting ready to fight: Spoiler. You’ve really been pissing me off lately.

Steph, waving her hand frantically: wait wait WAIT. I know I’ve been annoying BUT. I have gossip.

Jason, signaling his men to stop doing whatever they’re doing: this better be good

Dick: little wing, can you please just. Not do evil shit right now. I have a headache.

Jason: nah I think I will

Dick: but. We got pizza last night. You said you had a good time.

Jason: yeah, but it’s my job to piss you off so.

Dick, pinching his nose to hold off a migraine: you’re an asshole. You better not complain when I whoop your ass.

Jason: bring it, dickface

Jason, calling off his men, ready to slip into the playful arguments that he and duke usually have:

Duke, Very Tired Student and Vigilante at the end of his shift: I helped you change the home screen of the batcomputer to that image Tim had of Batman tripping over his own cape, Can We Not Today?

Jason, thrown off: you good man?

Duke: finals.

Jason: ah.

Jason: oh hey.

Cass: are we fighting?

Jason: nah, you made dickface feel old two days ago and I got a picture of the face he made, we’re good.

Cass:

Cass: can I take a break here?

Jason: yeah, I think I have some snacks if you want

Bruce: red hood.

Damian: hello, hood.

Jason: B. Brat.

Bruce, who had lunch with Jason last week and is sure they’re on good terms: is there any chance we can—

Jason, squaring up: nah old man, we’re fighting.

Damian: Am I required to participate?

Damian, attempting the puppy eyes dick taught him through the mask: I finished that book you gave me and I was hoping we wouldn’t fight so we could talk about it

Jason, who was only planning on fighting Bruce: don’t worry about it, brat. You just go foil my evil plan while I’m fighting B, and then I’ll take you for ice cream.

Bruce: hold on-

Jason: no. I need this.

Damian: this is acceptable. I will be finished posthaste.

i've not written poetry in years (i'm more of a novelist) but i allowed myself some cassandra thoughts (as a treat). i actually had a lot of fun with this and i'm desperate to do more with the idea in the future so we will see.

inspired obviously by my own muses, @two-bees-poetry for the brilliant contrapuntal poems about greek myth, and anne carson, specifically when she talks about cassandra's speech being split in two and her bridging of past and future!

Dammit Hedgiday if it sparks joy

Ezekiel and Flynn as children of Hermes therefore brothers.

(vaguely modeled after “And the Horns of a Dilemma” but with liberties taken.)

Safe and boring, Baird wanted them together somewhere safe and boring. 

The HR field trip was about as close to either of those as summer camp. Or maybe it wasn't--Ezekiel didn't have the best frame of reference for summer camp.  Presumably American summer camps that weren't camp Halfblood were both of those things. Regardless, this was not. 

the endless twists and turns of hallways in corporate  white gave way to dusty basement cement and then to...

"These look like Greek frescos... Late Helladic." Jacob Stone murmured. Ezekiel made a face. He should have picked up on that.

Of course, then Human Resources turned out to be human skulls. and through the first door, it all turned into even more of a creepy hallway, this time with flickering Torches.  

They heard a roar, and ran.

It took Cass's pattern recognition to find a way back through to the still-mazelike  office building hallways, now much darker and creepier.  They skidded to a halt as they spotted Baird--and the monster behind her. 

"Move!" she ordered, shooting back. Ezekiel wanted to roll his eyes-- of course the bullets wouldn't do anything! but the monster went down, for a moment.  They ran.

“Hold on, hold on,” Ezekiel started rummaging in his pockets.

“What, you got a xiphos in there?” Jacob grumbled, skidding to a halt without thinking twice. “We need to run!”

“We need to defeat the minotaur,” Ezekiel  bit back. “And that means I need--yes! My lockpicks. Thanks, Dad.”

“One problem, Jones. Don’t we need a door with a lock for those? In case you haven’t noticed, we’re in the Labyrinth! Being chased! by a freakin' minotaur!” 

“Calm down, jeeze. First of all, it’s a labyrinth, not The Labyrinth. And secondly, I knew a guy who killed one when he was 12, they’re not that scary. Here, take this.”

“How is it not scary? It's trying to kill us! How is this toothpick going to take down a minotaur?” 

“It’s celestial bronze, obviously. I don’t know, get him in the eyeball!” Ezekiel made a face.

"Guys?" Cass doubled back. "What are... ooooh. Those are shiny. They're glowing, almost..."

"Forged for Hermes himself," Ezekiel said. "Mine now. Good for killing monsters.  I mean, mostly.  Monsters really don't like Australia which is funny, you'd think they would, given all the--"

"Can it wait?" Jacob asked, holding the tiny pick in his hand. "I-- this thing isn't going to be enough--"

"We don't need it to be, we just need a door. Follow me!" Cass shrieked as the Minotaur roared and chased them further into the maze of hallways. Baird was first to follow, but stopped to be certain Stone and Ezekiel were running, too.  Cass pointed to a door, and Ezekiel got to work, picking the lock swiftly.

"Now what?" He asked Baird as they bolted the door behind him.

The back door's blue light shone through an entryway in response.

Ezekiel put the picks, polishing the blood off one, back in their little leather wallet. "Ok, the string was a better plan than the lockpicks," he admitted gruffly. 

"Don't beat yourself up," Cass put a hand on his shoulder. " they almost got us out the first time!"

"Hey!" Flynn Carson walked in. " I came back as soon as I heard. well, not as soon as I heard, air travel's always a little dicy, but you know."

"You came back because of the Minotaur? Not the other dozens of clippings book cases?" Baird asked. 

"Well," he had the decency to look a little abashed. " to make sure eveyone was alright.  If it was the real Labyrinth, that would have been a real problem, so..."

"I'm sorry," Eve said, "Was it not real? It felt pretty real. It was pretty real for all those dead interns!"

"You said something about that, too," Jacob looked at Ezekiel. Spill."

"Oh, my old lockpicks!" Flynn spotted the wallet in Ezekiel's hand. "glad they're working out for you, squirt."

"Don't call me that," Ezekiel groused. " and they're not yours, they were dad's."

"Well, Dad's who gave them to... someone. Who gave them to someone, who gave them to ... goodness, was it Thea?  No, Peter... and then Kicia, then me, and I gave them to... I want to say it was Luke, maybe.... and then someone gave them to you, presumable. Unless you just swiped em, which, lockpicks. Probably how they should be--."

"I'm sorry," Baird interrupted again. "Dad's? As in, singular possessive? One dad? Of you and... him?"

"It's complicated." Ezekiel and Flynn said in unison. 

"You can say that again," Baird muttered. "Fill me in."
