Solas and Selfishness

Solas has always said that he is selfish when it comes to Lavellan. And he is! And not just because he fears it cannot last.

In every romance scene, he makes certain they are entirely alone, with no possibility for interruption.

The first encounter is in the Fade. Granted, he wasn't expecting that encounter to turn romantic, but still. The next is in the Inquisitor's personal quarters. Who would dare burst in unannounced there? He will dance/snuggle with her on the balcony at Halamshiral, but only after everything is done and interruption is unlikely. Then Crestwood, he brings them to a tiny hidden glade, far from civilization.

He also refuses to discuss their relationship with anyone. Sera tries to needle him, and he shuts her down immediately. Cassandra asks about the Vallaslin, and while he comments on it as a concept, he won't talk about what happened between him and Inky personally. He won't even discuss the relationship with Cole (his precious Cole, who he always talks with!).

Then, during the Exalted Council, he locks the Eluvian immediately behind her, knowing what sort of conversation is likely to occur.

When Rook asks about it, he says she's a good woman, which is no secret to anyone. And while he admits to his selfishness, his answer to everything else - while very sweet - is about as vague as can be.

The ONLY time he allows their intimacy to be public is the final kiss. A situation where he is so beaten and broken and desperate, he really doesn't have much of a choice or simply doesn't care.

Their intimacy is something he is unwilling to share with anyone else. He wants their love all for himself.

Cassandra is refusing to look at anyone, and says weakly, "Could someone point me to the nearest body of water so that I might drown myself."
