I put it to you that Scaphiophryne marmorata is peak frog.
Why?
Well first, it's pretty round, which is key.
Tumblr media
Now get a load of those fingers.
Big, expanded discs at the end, ideal for climbing.
But what's happening back there with those toes? No discs there. Those are good for walking and hopping around on the ground.
Now, let's gently turn them over
Tumblr media
First, excellent tum, 17 out of 10, no notes.
But what's that at the base of the foot? Those big projections? Yep, those are spades. This climbing, hopping frog is an excellent digger!
I like to think of these Scaphiophryne as all-terrain frogs. They're basically good at everything. They defy our categorical labels of 'arboreal', 'terrestrial', or 'fossorial', and say 'por qué no los tres?'—but in Malagasy, so 'nahoana no tsy izy telo?'

Here's how to spot a Mad Scientist:
Is very smart in a specific field
Probably hasn't slept in the past 4 days
Depressed
Slowly decends into madness/spirals/gets obsessed over something to the point where they destroy their lives over it
Here are other minor signs you might want to look out for (doesn't apply to all Mad Scientist):
Very pathetic. A loser, if you will
Is gay
Wears glasses
Has a best friend who is extremely friendly and also a poet
Graying hair despite their relatively youthful appearance
Can be a little bit silly (as a treat)
Note that not all Mad Scientists are actual scientists. The Mad Scientist can be disguised as something else and may try to trick you; do not be fooled. Look for these traits to identify a real wild Mad Scientist.
Now you are ready to go out into the wild and find your very own Mad Scientists to hyperfixate on for the next month! Hope this helped❤️

Oddly specific genre of sci fi character who has at some point turned into a really intelligent blonde woman who sort of lacks common sense and a grasp of social cues 🤔

i like to think that zoro being callous about luffy mourning vegapunk’s death isn’t so much him being a heartless jerk as it is him being able to recognize that just because the old man felt bad at the end of his life doesn’t mean he isn’t still complicit in a metric fuckton of war crimes.

So, it’s not mattresses, but it is bed related. What do you think about sleeping in hammocks? I personally really enjoy it, I have a bunch of blankets and pillows and can snuggle down and get real cozy, but I was wondering if it’s not great to do long term? If it’s not your wheelhouse, I get that, just thought I’d ask!
I go back and forth! I personally think a hammock is probably pretty good back support provided you’re sleeping on your back. I’m more on fence for whether it’s good long term when you sleep on your side but hammocks have been around for ages and I don’t think humans would have kept using them if they were terrible.

HEY GUESS WHAT. THATS JUST WRONG. SEX ISNT CATEGORICAL. there are plenty of people who do fit into the binary categories, but sex, the combination of in-utero development with further effects of puberty that results in physical traits typically according to one's genes, IS NOT AND HAS NEVER BEEN BINARY.
you can *assign* people to one or the other, either by ignoring outliers manually "fixing" them so that they fit into your categories, sure. you can create a two-category system that way, but that explicitly denies the sheer amount of possibility built into sexual reproduction, and life as a whole.
binary sex is a social construct. biology has always been far more complicated than M or F, A or B, Yes or No.

I think combining horror, office comedy and epic queer romance might be a recipe for a masterpiece. It's a rare combination, but some of my favourite pieces of media have elements of all three.
Hannibal (2013), The Magnus Archives and What We Do In The Shadows are all vastly different, but they share this particular mix of genres and if any other piece of media popped into your mind while reading that description, please tell me about it. I need to test my hypothesis.

As someone who got into science fiction later in life, I find it quite comforting to see that there are still a lot of people obsessing and discussing about tv shows that were on the air 30 years ago.
It makes me feel much less alone, and connected to a whole group of people who, like me, find some of these stories and characters so compelling they can't not talk about them and share their love for the narratives.
And that's the power of fiction, of stories that make us feel closer to our humanity and to humanity in general.

"this is a fish" " this isnt a fish" ask any scientist and they will tell u a different answer. fish is not a category that can rlly be taxonomically used bc it is so vague. anything can be a fish. beavers are fish by some standards. "fish" is like "vegetable" and i love it for that

what i want is a site that lists every single published paper but cataloged by things like area and questions. like you'd be able to go to 'human body -> head -> brain -> function' and see all the papers exploring how the brain works with summaries on methodology and sample size (if relevant) along with general summaries of the topic going over what we current know. just something that would let you explore the sum of human knowledge in a way that is natural and fun to explore around but easy to get into initially and based around published papers. i understand this is a lot to ask but i'm sure if you got enough people together you could figure it out
