Hey! To those of you who were already following my blog, don't panic- I just rebranded and purged like, everything. I'm still the same me with a shiny new online persona ⋆˚࿔

To any new folks who have the misfortune of stumbling across this place, here's a rundown!!

I'm an aspiring sapphic poet who goes by the pen name Jum̐ie Apsara (I know that one of those characters won't show up on some screens- it's an m with a chandrabindu on top.) That first name's pronounced like Jui with a very very strong nasal sound between the u and the i by the way :P, but I don't mind being called Jumie with an m.

This is basically just my internet echo chamber where I dump a bunch of random creative shennanigans like my loser lesbian poetry, journey with taking up visual arts, and my struggles with shiny new hobbies like making music and coding html into the void. You may also see occasional yap about things I like or about shit that occurs in my life !! ✮✮

Im sure Raman can explain this much better since i make way too many spelling mistakes so im unclear on the rules too, but there's a matra in punjabi called "tippi" (टिप्पी) that works like a chandrabindu would in hindi

oh ik about tippi, bindi, and also half r and v some sanskrit loan words use, i was wondering about the other consonants

ञ is the twenty-fourth letter of the Hindi script and the last of the five palatal consonants. It's a voiced palatal nasal consonant, ie. an n-sound pronounced in the same place as the other palatal consonants.

Actually, this letter only appears in conjunction with other palatal consonants and never on its own. It's often replaced by anusvār in writing, so it's possible but somewhat rare to see both versions:

मंच = मञ्च [mañc] - stage, platform (masculine) कांच = काञ्च [kāñc] - glass (masculine) वांछित = वाञ्छित [vāñchit] - wanted, desired (adjective) लांछन = लाञ्छन [lāñchan] - accusation, stigma (masculine) कंजूस = कञ्जूस [kañjūs] - miser, cheapskate (adjective)

I've done various Google searches with explicit ञ-variant conjuncts and noticed that these results most often point to Sanskrit or Nepali sources perhaps more often than Hindi.

So as a Hindi learner I wouldn't start writing words with these conjuncts, but it's useful to be able to recognise them and understanding how they work may help with pronunciation especially when learning if a word has a nasal consonant sound indicating anusvār or a vocal nasalisation adding chandrabindu attached to it.
