Did any of the Strawhat's even go to school?
Chapter 1134 has sparked discussions on the state of the Strawhat's education, so I figured I would do a little analysis on my thoughts on it based on canon.
Luffy- Feral jungle child. Makino probably taught him to read and write, and attempted to teach him manners. Jury is out on whether or not Garp actually taught him anything. Doesn't seem to know much history. Does know beetles, and probably a lot of survival skills, including hunting.

Zoro- Ok this is the real reason why I made this post.
A dōjō (道場, Japanese pronunciation: [doꜜː(d)ʑoː]) is a hall or place for immersive learning, experiential learning, or meditation. This is traditionally in the field of martial arts. The term literally means "place of the Way" in Japanese. -Wikipedia
Isshin Dojo (一心道場, Isshin Dōjō?) is a kenjutsu school, a school of Japanese swordsmanship. Its owner is Koushirou, who is a skilled swordsman and father of the deceased Kuina. It is the place where Zoro trained his Three Sword Style and in the anime is the only dojo Zoro did not take down the sign of. -One Piece Wiki, Emphasis added by me
As a member of the Isshin Dojo Zoro has attended school! Koshiro taught him primarily swordsmanship and meditation, but someone taught him reading, writing, and math and I'm just going to guess it's Koshiro as well. Seems to know a bit of sword-related history, but not much world or local history.

Nami-Stole education books. Not formally educated. Everything was probably taught by Bellemere and the rest was learned on the fly. Probably knows the basics of mainstream world history. Is capable of formulating advanced equations, and has vast sailing, navigation, cartography and weather knowledge. Studied at Weatheria during the timeskip, but it doesn't seem like a formal institution.

Usopp - Orphaned street rat. Unknown who taught him to read, write, and do math. Possibly Banchina before she passed away. Somehow he knows chemistry and engineering? Might have borrowed books from Kaya? Mostly self-taught it seems.

Sanji- Definitely has a formal education, up until he ran away. Noble child who had a variety of tutors. Learned whatever noble children learn plus a variety of fighting techniques and fields of science. Then was taught cooking by Zeff. Boy definitely knows how to do math. Anyone who cooks for a large group of people can at least multiply on the fly, or has a calculator taped to the wall. One Piece appears to use the metric system, so at least he doesn't have to figure out how to quadruple a recipe that originally called for 1 2/3 cups of flour.
Chopper - Professionally taught by Dr. Kureha (and Dr. Hililuk). They are both referred to as Doctors, but it is unknown what sort of medical knowledge is actually needed for that title, or if there is like a degree or anything. Assumably one of them taught him reading, writing, math, and chemistry in addition to medical stuff. Also read all of the books in the Torino Kingdom during the timeskip. According to the wiki, Kureha established an academy during the timeskip.
After establishing a medical academy, she taught and trained at least eighty students who became skilled enough to join the Isshi-20, expanding their members to a hundred under her leadership.

Robin- Got a degree in archaeology at the age of 8. Has all of the reading, writing, and history skills, including dead languages. While she taught herself how to read the poneglyphs, I think it's safe to say that Professor Clover taught her regular history, math, science, reading, and writing. Robin went to school!
Franky - Apprenticeship under the shipwright Tom. His state of education was unknown before meeting Tom at age 10. Should know all of the basic skills (reading, writing, math) in addition to carpentry, and shipbuilding. Tom's Workers is referred to as a shipbuilding company, so I don't think it counts as a school? Knows at least enough medical knowledge to turn himself into a cyborg with scraps from a ghost ship after being runover by a train. And Survive. Somehow.

Brook- APPARENTLY??? Stated that school makes him nostalgic, which implies he attended. Also knows a variety of things usually nobility would, namely various musical instruments and fencing. He also knows sailing, and various other things to be a battle convoy leader and pirate captain. I have questions for this man.

Jinbe - Dojo again, this time the Fish-Man Karate Dojo. Later joined the Neptune Army. So, since a dojo counts as a type of specialized school, he's attended a school as well as had military training! Knows basic historical stuff, especially that pertaining to fishmen and human-fishman relations. Seems to know other basic life skills (reading, writing, math, ect)

So, in conclusion:
Went to school: Zoro, Robin, Brook, Jinbe
Private Tutors: Sanji
Vocational Training under a Professional: Sanji, Chopper. Franky, Nami,
Self Taught with some instruction by a parent or other adult (non-professional): Luffy, Nami, Usopp
Out of the ten members, 4 of them attended a school of some sort and several others had some sort of professional training or supervision of study.
Feel free to add on if I missed anything!

I know that the running theory right now is Shank's twin, but honestly, I'm inclined to believe it's a clone. Maybe a special one commissed for Garling to replace the child he lost, who knows. But the clone thing seems to be a running theme.
they cloned the seven warlords (who's even to say that the seraphim are the first tries) they cloned Stussy from the Rocks Pirate (the most regular-sized human of the bunch so maybe there's like a limit and Shanks is the most regular-sized yonko.) they clone devil fruits. It definitely feels like a setup for something much bigger and a cloned shanks is very much in that realm
like that really is the only explanation I have for why the "twin' looks so much like shanks. I mean it's one thing to be two siblings that look exactly alike (which isn't out of the norm for Oda) but to wear their hair virtually the same and have the same scraggly mustache even though he would have been raised as a proper celestial dragon with all the "propriety" and better fashion sense that entails and just generally everything (we've already been shown that either the clones are drawn to the same look as their original or it is forced upon them to make them resemble as close as possible.)
I don't know the idea that the world government would clone Shanks because why the hell not isn't so far-fetched honestly it might even be a clone of garling himself to explain the age.
Shanks holds a lot of power in the world a lot of people are known to trust him and he holds particular sway with the giants something that would be very valuable to the world government. And of garling's his dad it'd be pretty easy to get access to that DNA.
but yeah I'm interested to see how this plays out.
#i'm more inclined to clone shanks that twin shanks the pieces already seem to be set up for it to be a clone#but who knows could be a misdirect#it would be funny if it turns out this whole time shanks was the original first clone and he's infact a clone of Garling#and that's why he was in the treasure chest#I'm guessing they can't just clone an adult because why would they want the warlords as kids#maybe it makes them more mallieble whose to say#but i'm guessing clones have to also live the full life cycle if you want a true perfect version#but interesting interesting#i paused reading for a while might have to catch up#throwing thoughts to the void#one piece#akagami no shanks#shanks#red haired shanks#one piece 1134#one piece spoilers#shanks twin#one piece chapter 1134#one piece leaks

No cause I just discovered the "Shanks got an evil twin/clone" theory thanks to my friend reading chap 907 at the same time I read 1134. And everything it would imply seems banger but also.
I just can't shake the feeling that this is really Shanks. And not the "Shanks being forced to cooperate with the government" theory. More like "Shanks deals with the government and has his own shady agenda" theory.
Like I get it, Shanks is dad. Shanks is a fandom favorite.
But Shanks is also massively sus !
Like yeh silly dad emperor being all scary until you bring up his (adoptive) son's name but no one with the power to do such a fast 180 is completely trustworthy.
I'm too sleepy to go back and find evidence but I'm pretty sure there's some of his appearances where he discusses government/lore/meta things and his attitude is just a little off.
I think people tend to forget he is the only emperor with no devil fruit. The pure strength and haki and dealings that implies. As of now he managed to stay emperor, and be regarded as one the strongest at that, for six whole years.
He managed to steal one of the most guarded devil fruit in history and just. didn't eat it. You cannot tell me this man did not know what he was stealing. Like sure, he was going to "sell it". Idk, not being able to swim as a pirate sure sucks but eating one of the most powerful devil fruit in existence seems like a pretty good deal to me.
Also, while he, as a dad™, decided to display mercy and let the Barto Club escape, he also let Yasopp shoot them down without lifting a finger to stop him.
I don't know where I was going with this and I don't really have the brain power to come up with a "eureka here's why he does the things and here's the evidence" reflexion. But I don't think he would be so easily manipulated ; and while the clone theory is actually interesting, a twin that looks exactly like him (down to the stubby beard and clothes and lack of swag, sorry) and has gone unnoticed for a whole 40 years would be a little bizarre.
Anyway I love that shady dude and the way he manages to cause chaos simply by appearing for one panel every 100 chapter.

The first page of 1134 is up on the Japanese site and I want to talk about it.
Luffy is speaking so formally haha. Though seems slightly unsure if he's saying everything correctly as he introduces himself to Saul.
"Old man Saul!" "A long time ago, you took great care of my underling." "Thank you very much!" After this, Luffy says “ohike nasutte kure!!” As Wano's iconic "Beng!!" sounds off in place of the usual "Don!!" We've heard that phrase before!

As some may be aware, "Ohike nasutte" is the title of chapter 976, where Jinbei arrives in Wano! Translated as "Begging your Pardon." I love it and it's honestly really cool seeing this from Luffy.
Then the others are like "Where did you learn that?" comical sweat drop*

Luffy continues and uses another phrase of Jinbei's from 976, dochira sanmo, a polite way of getting everyone's attention, though he seems to be running out of steam to talk so formally. Big kudos to Luffy for the effort! Poor guy, tired himself out.
There is a bit more after this, though this post is really about the similarities to 976. I am eager to get to the full chapter on Sunday.

Talking about a big spoiler in chapter 1134 so I’ll hide it under here
I’m not too surprised Shanks has a twin, because I knew he definitely had to have siblings. He couldn’t be the only Figarland child, especially since his parents lost their baby at God Valley and never bothered to look for him…they had to have plenty of spares and replacement kids. These are rotten Celestial Dragons, they care about their superior bloodline and force people to have their children, it’s a big family, Shanks probably has siblings and half-brothers and half-sisters. It was just a matter of whether it would be an older/younger brother or twin…but they would all probably still look like Shanks anyways and it would still be a big deal.
It does seem like by creating this evil twin characters it’s setting up for a truly evil version of Shanks that can be defeated with no emotional setbacks and with genuine passion to kill him.
Shanks might have an evil twin, but I think Shanks still has hidden intentions and plans of his own. We still can’t be completely certain of what Shanks is about.

Of course, this could be Shanks himself, but I’m leaning towards it being his twin. Shanks would have to be a really fucked up person otherwise.
