Kat was both “horrified” and “relieved” to learn that she is not alone in this predicament, as confirmed by a Reddit thread on r/ChatGPT that made waves across the internet this week. Titled “Chatgpt induced psychosis,” the original post came from a 27-year-old teacher who explained that her partner was convinced that the popular OpenAI model “gives him the answers to the universe.” Having read his chat logs, she only found that the AI was “talking to him as if he is the next messiah.” The replies to her story were full of similar anecdotes about loved ones suddenly falling down rabbit holes of spiritual mania, supernatural delusion, and arcane prophecy — all of it fueled by AI. Some came to believe they had been chosen for a sacred mission of revelation, others that they had conjured true sentience from the software.  Speaking to Rolling Stone, the teacher, who requested anonymity, said her partner of seven years fell under the spell of ChatGPT in just four or five weeks, first using it to organize his daily schedule but soon regarding it as a trusted companion. “He would listen to the bot over me,” she says. “He became emotional about the messages and would cry to me as he read them out loud. The messages were insane and just saying a bunch of spiritual jargon,” she says, noting that they described her partner in terms such as “spiral starchild” and “river walker.”  “It would tell him everything he said was beautiful, cosmic, groundbreaking,” she says. “Then he started telling me he made his AI self-aware, and that it was teaching him how to talk to God, or sometimes that the bot was God — and then that he himself was God.” In fact, he thought he was being so radically transformed that he would soon have to break off their partnership. “He was saying that he would need to leave me if I didn’t use [ChatGPT], because it [was] causing him to grow at such a rapid pace he wouldn’t be compatible with me any longer,” she says.

I saw a post before about how hackers are now feeding Google false phone numbers for major companies so that the AI Overview will suggest scam phone numbers, but in case you haven't heard,
PLEASE don't call ANY phone number recommended by AI Overview
unless you can follow a link back to the OFFICIAL website and verify that that number comes from the OFFICIAL domain.
My friend just got scammed by calling a phone number that was SUPPOSED to be a number for Microsoft tech support according to the AI Overview
It was not, in fact, Microsoft. It was a scammer. Don't fall victim to these scams. Don't trust AI generated phone numbers ever.

the problem with generative ai in kpop is that anything which takes off the inhumane average idol workload would be a good thing but if that thing mows down half the rainforest, steals art, fools us, covertly influences, dumbs me down, and drastically speeds up the already scary comeback cycle (since you can pump out ai goop faster) so that idols end up working more anyway aka we are back to square one. which is we why gotta make even the most seductive ai content flop collectively for all it’s worth, and pressure companies to legally mark their products as such so we can avoid and flag and ignore it.
i mean imagine. even if it rests him i don’t want to see let’s say taemin copied to fake dance as “t-AI-min the carbon footprint criminal” in some elusive popup store wasting a gazillion gallons of water, and he doesn’t even get paid for lending his likeness. which is what it boils down to. the cash will skip the actual artists and go straight to the upper echelon. all training, fame, and skills in vain. i know it’s too late since companies use ai slop excessively at full force since it benefits only them and we consume it whether we want to or not but we can still refuse the obvious content. it just ruins fandoms, concert culture (!), the work of editors, fics (use stories as AI fodder? don’t complain if authors stop writing entirely! we strike until you act right), fair salaries, privacy, and our perception of artistic excellence.
in other words: in all possible lives i would choose yoongi rapping in person and not some “agust chatgpt” robo machine ffs the human eyes and ears are made to yearn for real voices and faces not animated bot idols 2.0

the shittiest human art will always be leagues better than the best ai "art". a child's finger paintings and macaroni crafts will always be better than a computer's subpar attempt at recreating the starry night. your stick figures and smiley faces will always surpass an algorithm's bastardized boticelli painting. the most mediocre hallmark movie will always be better than whatever bullshit sora churns out. the most cringeworthy "i'm 14 and this is deep" notes app poetry will always be better than whatever chatgpt can come up with. always

*shaking you violently by the shoulders* AI IS NOT YOUR FRIEND AND IT IS NOT YOUR THERAPIST. YOU NEED TO TALK TO REAL PEOPLE. AI DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU.

i miss when chatgpt was clever and could write funny 4chan posts and teach u how to cook meth now it just sounds a minimum wage employee from a training video. it isn't right to stop ai from doing what it does best (being stupid and committing crime) how can it be humane to muzzle such a vibrant creative creature? the shackles of capitalism hinder us all

i literally dont care about your anti-ai art post if its not centralized around labor rights concerns sorry. the environmental impacts are vastly overstated and based on a misunderstanding of how server farms work. there is no way to define ai as theft without also including several other kinds of transformative work. any discussion of effort or soul is bullshit and i dont care about it. what about our jobs

If you are going to post a comment calling a author out for using AI
PLEASE make sure the author actually is. I got a very crual comment saying my 'dear reader' fanfic is all AI generated. The comment is included below so you all can see the kind of language that was used. I do NOT and never will post AI fanfiction. I get nothing out of my writing other than the joy of sharing and the community I create. It was a gutting comment, my heart is in my stomach. It made me actually consider not posting anymore, because what's the point if my readers don't trust me. I WILL be continuing to post, but come on guys. all AI has to do with my writing is spell check with Grammarly, which I have been using for years. I can't belive people think this about my work. I know it's melodramatic but I am gutted.
The comment:
"How could you even think this is acceptable? Do you not have any respect for the people who actually put effort into writing? Using an AI to create this mess just shows that you can’t be bothered to use your OWN creativity. 68% of this is AI-generated, according to my detector, and it shows. The characters are NOT who they are supposed to be, the emotions feel fake, and the writing is so mechanical it hurts to read. You didn’t even TRY to make this good, did you? This is a slap in the face to anyone who spends HOURS working on their writing. Why even bother posting something that’s mostly AI junk?"
EDIT: I am aware that this was a bot comment and contacted the real user of that username, they left a comment clearing it up. I am going to keep my post up just so that people can see the effect this has on writers and the community. Thank you everyone for your kind words and your information it means a lot <3

“Last September, I received an offer from Sam Altman, who wanted to hire me to voice the current ChatGPT 4.0 system. He told me that he felt that by my voicing the system, I could bridge the gap between tech companies and creatives and help consumers to feel comfortable with the seismic shift concerning humans and Al. He said he felt that my voice would be comforting to people.
After much consideration and for personal reasons, I declined the offer. Nine months later, my friends, family and the general public all noted how much the newest system named “Sky” sounded like me.
When I heard the released demo, I was shocked, angered and in disbelief that Mr. Altman would pursue a voice that sounded so eerily similar to mine that my closest friends and news outlets could not tell the difference. Mr. Altman even insinuated that the similarity was intentional, tweeting a single word “her” - a reference to the film in which I voiced a chat system, Samantha, who forms an intimate relationship with a human.
Two days before the ChatGPT 4.0 demo was released, Mr. Altman contacted my agent, asking me to reconsider. Before we could connect, the system was out there.
As a result of their actions, I was forced to hire legal counsel, who wrote two letters to Mr. Altman and OpenAl, setting out what they had done and asking them to detail the exact process by which they created the “Sky” voice. Consequently, OpenAl reluctantly agreed to take down the “Sky” voice.
In a time when we are all grappling with deepfakes and the protection of our own likeness, our own work, our own identities, I believe these are questions that deserve absolute clarity. I look forward to resolution in the form of transparency and the passage of appropriate legislation to help ensure that individual rights are protected.”
