The Opening moments of Jaufre

Okay, I've cracked open the first few pages of Jaufre, the Occitan Arthurian Romance starring Sir Griflet (Jaufre) and the only known romance to feature him as the protagonist.

...Aaaand already, we're getting into the shenanigans right away with the first bit of the story:

So the story begins with Arthur and co. at court. And as usual, Kay bitches Arthur out for his stupid custom of not eating before seeing or hearing about an adventure:

I have to imagine everyone gets annoyed that they have to practically starve before chowtime

Losing patience, Arthur decides to go out and bring along Gawain, Kay and all the other knights to go get in trouble find some adventure.

And they do find some adventure - a mysterious beast has been harrassing a poor millwoman.

But when Arthur tries to drag away the creature from eating all the grain, his hands get magically stuck to the creature's horns. At which point, the creature decides to take Arthur for a wild ride:

Knights of the Round Table are at a total loss on what to do as the beast carries Arthur around and brings him through the forest and up a cliff.

And then Kay does a funny:

I need someone to draw a comic of this specific scene with Kay!

So, the knights try to come up with plan to make sure the King isn't going get hurt, which involves getting naked:

Thankfully, the situation resolves itself as the mysterious beast lets Arthur go and then reveals itself to be... a shapeshifting member of the Knights of the Round Table who learned magic and made bet with Arthur:

I have a sneaking suspicion this guy is actually Menw ap Teirgwaedd, one of the enchanter knights of Arthur's Court from the Welsh Myths.

And so with that, the situation is resolved and everyone goes back to Court so they can finally eat. End of Prologue.

But before I finish, i'd like to note that the Jaufre author then commits the biggest war crime ever on Queen Guinevere's name:

And that's as far as I've read for today.

As you can already tell, this story is gonna be a knightly comedy and going to take my sweet time finishing it.

her brows knit together at the memory being played in her head, not forged from guilt of any form but one of deep and utter disgust she's forced to relive the painful event. it was a few years ago when it had happened but death tends to leave it's permanent marks just like grief did. frost would usually depend on meaningless distractions to keep the pain at bay but it never wanted to leave no matter how many clubs she attended to and the forgetful nights that followed.

❝ well... ❞ louise starts to trail off and crosses her arms firmly over her chest. ❝ i got into some pretty serious shit with a boss lady in belle reve a few years back. i didn't know the ropes yet and i accidentally set her off when i talked to her girlfriend during chowtime. i didn't make a move on her girl. ❞ her jaw tightens, flexing out her fingers and tightening them until her knuckles turned white. this is the type of conversation she's willing to discuss with dr. matthews, not a infamous crime boss. the fact she's even admitting all of this so easily causes a nervous chuckle to break out from her mouth and rubs the back of her neck as if to dismiss the action. faltering will only make her small, weak, pathetic like her previous victim's when she was ordered to interrogate them.

This is my sling Azura in her new enclosure :3 love her to bits she has such a good appetite :3 so cute that she tried to hold onto the water dropper i used to give her new water with and then attacked a water droplet that was on her web thinking it was a fruit fly :D sucha silly girl.
