Hello hello!! I just wanna start off by saying how GORGEOUS your art is! Truly inspiring. I was wondering what your process was? Again, your art is truly impressive

Thank you!! Oh man, it was a saga and you've opened a can of worms because my favorite thing to ramble about outside of sad gay space robots is our unholy overlord Photoshop (warning for length)

Hatching workflow: step 1: have too many Doré artbooks The refined process is thumbnail > cleaner sketch > black-and-white base OR 3D render > cut out whites > clean up edges > mask out each building/section > hatching lines with the upcoming layer setup

Below is the layer setup I use for hatching! First I separated each element into its own folder, with its own mask—

Then used this structure in each folder— I just want the hatching lines to appear black when on lit areas, and white on shadowed areas (as opposed to having to draw part of a line in white and another part in black). So, after separating the lit and shadowed sides, I copied the "Light" layer, clipped it on top of a folder of hatching lines, and inverted its layer mask.

(*I draw on layer masks because it's easier to recolor lines + toggle between drawing and erasing with the "X" shortcut (I have fore- and background colors set to black and white for layer masks))

Sometimes I do a pass of grayscale values and overlay that layer on top as a reference while hatching.

I've two main brushes: one choppier and one smoother and tapered at the ends (for thin lines, 2px-3px). Really thin horiz/vert lines are just the Pencil at 1px.

Black-and-white workflow with 3D:

Tbh at first I only intended to make that one lurking Drift illustration. But I cower from 3D like it’ll kill me, so I turned it into a 3D assignment. First I used that "separate ways" piece to make myself model at low stakes (I just made items from the comic backgrounds and jammed them together), then I modeled the Dead End wide shot and got the final lurking Drift comp from that.

1. Drew enough detail to model (>see the 5th image in this post)

2. Used fSpy to generate a Blender camera that matched my perspective

3. Shoved together the barest essentials of the clinic set in Blender (setting the 5th image in this post as a background image in Viewport)

4. Rendered at hi-res twice: once with lighting, once with Freestyle outlines.

5. Changed clinic design in the close-up, so I went back to revise the wide shot.

In conclusion, my hobby is wrangling Photoshop to minutely speed up the extremely tedious and niche thing I can't stop myself from doing If anyone's got a faster way to do any of this, tell me!!

i got busy before the deadline and wanted to give it a better go, and i even had time to get silly with it and add a desk lol

What am I doing in the year of our lord 2025 drawing Junjou Romantica fanart

Goodness me, I got into JJR back in 2008 when the anime aired and then I got into the manga that same year. At the time, I wasn't really drawing people, I was drawing animals, but I was OBSESSED with this yaoi with my whole heart and wanted so badly to draw fanart for it. So now here it is! 17 years in the making! Btw, trying to interpret anime hair logic with my style is easier said than done, but I did my best lol. All just colored sketches and then some scribbles for funsies.

But I definitely have some complicated feelings about this manga/anime. More below the cut (its A LOT, I'm so sorry).

JJR was one of the first yaois I ever got into, and back in 2008 when I didn't realize being gay was an option, this silly little manga/anime felt like an escape for me. Well, it's now 17 years later and upon rereading this manga (I still have volume 1-12, I could never get rid of them, they mean to much to me) I realize that it has aged POORLY.

This yaoi is definitely a product of its time (2002/2003) and it SHOWS. I find myself disappointed in the dynamic between Usagi-san and Misaki and wish that Misaki would show Usagi-san SOME sort of affection outside of the bare minimum (cooking and cleaning for Usagi) and Usagi definitely has some... Issues of his own. Now, I'm an adult, and I can see that consensual non-consent (CNC) can be fun and exciting for a couple (you know, if agreed upon beforehand), and it can be fun for your partner to initiate things out of the blue, but Usagi definitely toes the line of what that is. Now, I know that this was the early 2000s and yaoi relationships tended to have that dynamic (One being the seme who didn't listen to "no" and the uke who said "no" constantly but actually secretly liked what was happening), like I said, this series is definitely a product of its time. But I don't know man, its not fun (for me) reading sex scenes where one of them is constantly telling the other one to stop over and over again. (I also think it'd be cute as fuck if Usagi-san asked Misaki if he could kiss him and Misaki shyly said yes instead of yelling at him like he always does).

I even went online to read up to volume 27, but all I can express is that same disappointment. Misaki rarely even likes to acknowledge that he's in love with Usagi-san, or is dating the man, or even likes him (it seems to be only under duress that he admits these things STILL. IN 2022 when that volume was released!)

I wish there had been more character development in the years since I stopped reading the manga, I wish we could see Misaki and Usagi-san acting like they actually like each other outside of when they have sex (yes there are small moments between the two, and a bickering couple can be a fun dynamic, but dear lord lets shake things up A LITTLE. I'M BEGGING).

Lets not even get started on the sketchyness that is (at the start of the manga) a 28 year old falling in love with an 18 year old (And we're not even going to TALK about Miyagi and Shinobu) -don't bring up the age of consent in Japan, I do NOT wanna hear it-.

Listen, I'm 29, and I would NEVER even DREAM about dating an 18 year old (or 19 year old) at my age. (Fuck, the youngest I'll date is MAYBE 23 but even THATS pushing it for me).

All of that to say is that I still can't help but have an extreme soft spot for this series, and there are still moments that I love from this (Volume 9, the Christmas chapter, am I right? Gets me EVERY time), and fuck, Shungiku Nakamura is probably still making bank with this series so who the fuck am I to say anything lol. I'm just a rando online with an opinion, you don't have to agree, and you can think that whatever Misaki and Usagi have is fuckin' AWESOME. I'm just an old fart

But, I dunno, I think it'd be interesting to explore Misaki's internalized homophobia, and Misaki slowly but surely growing more and more comfortable with not only accepting Usagi-san's affections and even reciprocating and initiating on his own, but also accepting HIMSELF and being happy with who he is instead of the constant self shame he puts himself through for being with a man. Let's be so real, he is gay, he can't stop looking at other attractive men and FAWNING over how hot they are (Nowaki, Todo, Injuin Sensei, the list goes on).

But who am I to complain, I went and drew fanart of these two anyway. Rock, meet glass house.

Unrelated, I love the art style in volume 3-6 a lot because its very "late 90s early 2000s" art and I think the art peaked in volume 9. And now its unpeaking. Bring back Usagi-san's yaoi chin so help me god.

I do have yaoi I prefer over this one a lot more, and involve older couples (which I find that I prefer), and have fun, cute stories. If anyone has read this far and wants those recs, lemme know (dear god I'm so sorry, this has gone on so long.)

Anyway I do want to redraw some of the sex scenes and post it to my bluesky.

Super quick doodles vs. Full sketches!

I wanted to see just the stark differences between my doodles and my render sketches (idk what else to call em LOL) and so I drew this for funsies and to practice my own style! -Anddd to play around with the DCA outfits o3o

The sketch is just cleaned up, not drawn over with lineart, so it's still messy but got that flowy sketchy charm!

Usually Moon is my favorite but that Sun pose and face is just PERFECT. I am so surprised at how I was able to draw that - especially so easily! I was struggling with Moon's face for a bit, so maybe that practice made Sun just come out extra noice!

You'll probably notice some interesting design choices.

Long story short, drawing the ruffles are a bit meh for me, and ironically I don't like drawing necks - which the ruffles hid.

My fix? Put absolutely NOTHING there. Magic✨✨✨

Bendy accordion torso hehe-

The pants have elastic drawstrings for 2 reasons.

1. Ease of access/adjustable. 2. I wear pants like that and they make me happy :3

I also kept forgetting to draw the ribbons, but I decided to play around with the idea of them to see if i could turn it into something fun for me. I turned them more into a wristband with dangling bells - it reminds me of paddle drums! I added them to the bottom of the pants to make the design repeat just a little. :)

Idk what possessed me to draw them so cunty but here we are. o3o

I love the goofy and stylistic mouths I use when I doodle them, but they end up looking like they don't fit right when I render, so unfortunately they disappear for the normal smile...

At least the normal smile is still very charming! ^^

Ya girl has done it again! Birb guessing game

I’ve begun efforts to create the second plushie from my polls last year. I made the Fresno Nightcrawler soon after the results were in because he was the easiest and was the winner of the runoff, but the process of moving states pushed back the runner-up. Here are the starting sketches of the potoo:

You may have noticed the numbers. This one represents a small game. Each of these is a pun based on the fact that the potoo is a kind of jar. So these are all words or phrases with “jar” in them somewhere.

The only reward for success in guessing them all that I feel I can commit to offering is a sketch of the same sparkling caliber as these, of the cursed creature of your choice in a situation of your choice (pending approval, keep it clean and simple).

Or just guess them for funsies. No guess is too simple or too stupid.

I like how you added in facial hair for both Freddy & Foxy, but I noticed that the former doesn't have his braces anymore. Forgive me if it sounded different to you.

yeah i realized after posting it looked like he did have them anymore, but its just the way the sketch looks! it was originally WAY sketchier and i just kinda cleaned it up to post, he does still have his braces!! extra doodle of the boy for funsies :)

older version of karmor drawing that still has layers before I merged them like a FOOL ummm i wanted to explain process a bit for funsies . last process post was so bum and cheeks so . simpler explanation. for myself because i forget yay

start w sketch yay

add a background beforehand so you can draw reflecting colours / lighting from it

clean up sketch if ur so willing i got lazy and didn't and Suffered for it later

block out colours ... flats if you will (add layer effects beforehand and merge so you have more control over colours ... layer effects at the end kind of fry all my colours Eugh)

add simple shadows on top of flats using a layer effect or just pick the colour yourself... moreso just to help build up shadows later and see where they fall...

add a layer on top of the flats AND lineart and start rendering each section based on its position (i didn't do the order right and it was annoying ... generally for me it goes skin → hair → clothes → accessories / props depending on what is in front of what)

ummm i went for the hair first cause that was the trickiest bit for me but you can see like . the simple shading i had at first

i SHOULD have gone (skin + eyes → hair → arms → clothing → sundial → crow) but... what can we do lol

would do most of the rendering on one layer for each part but if i was unsure of a decision (like adding more highlight) id put it on a new layer and turn it on/off to see if i liked it better

render by picking a light / shadow colour and mixing it with flats and background colours accordingly... i went on a hue-value scale where my highlights were white-yellow midtones were orange-red and my shadows were purple-blue... just followed my colour wheel as i went from light to shadow basically

draw in some lineart again in places... Ough

used a contrast + mask layer to add more contrast to parts that looked flat (viewed in greyscale to see the values)

followed that colour pattern for the text too

that's it .. oh and checked how it looked on my phone and added a filter lol

ZERO OUT OF TEN METHOD WOULD NOT RECOMMEND MY GOD... but we got there in the end yayyy
