Folks, sorry for disappearing, three months, I know. Some things happened, and I had to sort out others, but here is the update (this update is the one that was available on Patreon, but I’m bringing it here, and no, unfortunately, it doesn’t bring the things involving the old demo and the trip to the faerie lands; that will be for the next one). I won’t go into detail now, but I am returning. For now, Patreon remains paused as I still have to finish translating and wrap up some other things. But I intend to bring news later.

And I updated some links too.

The update is small, but the next one will be bigger. (Really)

Change of plans, instead of updating "soon", I've just updated it right now. The chapter was complete, I'd fixed all of my beta reader's reported errors... The only thing left to do was get it out to you guys. So here it is, you can play Track 3 of Press Play right here.

The witty, hypnotizing, and impulsive egomaniac lead vocalist of Elysium, the band with the world record for most-sold album ever. With their endorsement, Hydra seems to have made themselves your unofficial mentor, and you their protégé. Is that because they truly believe you're meant for the big leagues, or because they made a rash decision in the heat of the moment and now they're facing the consequences?

★ The Traitor: Jonah/Juliette Ziegler (m/f) ★

Your former best friend who abandoned you when they hit it big is nothing like you remember them to be. That mischievous and dazzlingly charming kid with dreams bigger than the whole sky vanished without a trace in your absence. All that remains is a frost so icy you'd almost think you were the one who wronged them.

★ The Ride or Die: Cia/Cian Avila (m/f) ★

You're not sure how you would've survived this long without your now-roommate and longtime friend, the blunt, snarky, and constantly irritated by something electric guitarist/tattoo apprentice Cia/Cian Aliva. When LA's being its usual brutal self, you can always count on them to be there when you get home, however much they may grumble about moving here in the first place.

★ The Manager: Ethan/Elena Sun (m/f) ★

Every famous superstar needs an equally talented manager. With a cleverness that could rival the King of Ithaca, an unwavering devotion to their client's success, and a creativity that makes you wonder why they don't write songs themselves, E is the epitome of a perfect manager on paper. But how much of it is genuine exactly?

★ The Pop Princess: Natalie "Marigold" (f) ★

The pop music sensation has another claim to fame than just her music; her widely scrutinized long-term relationship with T Hydra. Even the most astute of internet sleuths can say with certainty that nobody saw that relationship coming. Overnight, she—and her music—skyrocketed to the top of the trending searches. And now everyone in America knows her name because you can't mention Hydra without thinking of Marigold. She's scored the dream life everyone wants, that's what they all say.

★ The Rival: Damian/Devyn Thunder (m/f) ★

Cocky jackass. That's the best way to describe C Thunder. They're undeniably talented and their voice is one most people would kill for, but all of that's offset by their insufferable smirk and smug demeanor. You'd sooner jump off a bridge than spend a single minute alone with them, but Olympian seems to have other plans after signing them.

★ The Sweetheart: Stella/Eli Rose (m/f) ★

The other winner of Upstaged Season two and the only child of a beloved late actor, they're (one of) Hydra's notorious rival. You're not sure what rule of Upstaged says it's required to hate your competition to win, but Hydra's certainly fulfilled it. Rose… you get the feeling they couldn't care less about whatever grudge Hydra holds against them. How could they when they're being pulled in a hundred different directions daily without a break?

★ The Daredevil: Lucifer "Luci" Morningstar (m/f) ★

The Olympian-signed electric guitarist is the classic image of a daredevil; chaotic, reckless, and far too relaxed causing havoc. It's no surprise some of the gossip magazines have dubbed them as batshit crazy. An accurate rating, they'd remark. You get the feeling they're a little proud of the title, or maybe they've just chosen to embrace it.

★ The Bodyguard: Bellamy Ortega (m) ★

Cool, calm, and collected isn't enough to define Hydra's personal bodyguard—also coincidentally your new neighbor—as you get a distinct feeling that even getting stabbed wouldn't faze him. So, obviously, Hydra's constant game of putting their life and reputation in danger for the thrill doesn't either. Or maybe he’s just had a lot of practice pretending it doesn't.

★ Rue Bèrd: (f) ★

A keyboardist signed with Olympian who freelances as your friend in her spare time.

★ Adrian Park: (genderfluid) ★

A producer employed by Olympian and Rue's long-term partner. They're also your friend when they want to be.

★ Karry Cenderat: (f) ★

Elysium's manager who conjures up a miracle every time she keeps another scandal from reaching the press's grubby hands.

★ Billy Matthews: (m) ★

The mysterious owner of the record label who drops by to see how things are going once in a blue moon.

★ Johnny Locks: (m) ★

A sold-out stadium rockstar whose second claim to fame is being dubbed the nicest guy in rock. Also famously Hydra's first, and only, mentor.

★ Samson Ryland: (nb) ★

The bass guitarist of your new band. They're welcoming enough, but you've been around enough musicians to know they're wary of you joining the group.

★ Anthony Lance: (m) ★

The drums, Anthony doesn't feel the need to pretend for niceties sake. He doesn't like you intruding in the band and he makes that very known.

You are a good, upstanding citizen. You’re a devoted best friend, get good grades in college, and life is looking up. You would go as far as to call yourself a good person. That is, until you aren’t anymore. 

When your best friend gets cheated on by her asshole boyfriend, you’re furious on her behalf. And when you see him at a party, something in you… snaps. In a fit of fury, you murder him. 

And this unleashes a bloodlust in you that no one would have ever expected, least of all yourself. Soon, a terrible, aching hunger forms in the pit of your stomach and travels up to gnaw at your heart. You want to kill – need to kill. The question is: can you get away with it, or are you destined to fall? 

The game has four romance options who go as follows:

Delilah (F) Delilah is the kindest, sweetest person you know. She would never even hurt a fly. But despite that, she helps you cover up the murder of her (ex) boyfriend with little more than a scolding look. There’s a burning in her eyes when you reveal your bloodlust before her. Could it be possible that she’s drawn to it?

Delilah is of average height with a lean, slender build. She has black skin, coiled black hair she keeps in locks, and dark brown eyes. She has a round, heart-shaped face and deep dimples.

Sebastian (M) Sebastian has always been a bright, easy-going guy. He’s always been a pleasant person to hang out with, despite his poor choice of best friend. But ever since his best friend’s death – well, ever since you happened to murder him – his joy has been muted. If he ever found out that you murdered his best friend, he would never forgive you.

(WARNING: Sebastian's route is unique in that it is meant to be dark, purposely deceptive, and potentially even downright abusive on behalf of the MC. )

Sebastian is tall with broad shoulders and a muscular build. He has sun-kissed skin and curly brown hair that reaches his shoulders. His eyes are a light shade of brown. He has a scar on his calf that winds all the way up his thigh.

Alexander/Alexandra (M/F)

A is the detective who’s been put on your case. They’re charming, with a silver tongue and a mind as sharp as a finely-honed blade. They’ll stop at nothing to discover who the serial killer haunting the streets of their city is. Too bad that that person happens to be you.

A is tall with a wiry frame. They have pale skin and light blue eyes. Their hair is a pale, platinum blond. Their features are angular and sharp, making them look almost shrewish. A scar slashes across their left cheek.

Hugo/Helga (M/F) H is your classmate who you’ve been assigned on a group project with. They’re a twitchy, nervous thing, often acting as if they’re afraid of the entire world at large. As your killing spree commences, however, they develop a fascination with your serial killing persona. Maybe they’re not as much of a delicate little lamb as you thought they were. 

H has a short, wiry frame. They have pale skin and light blue eyes, along with fiery red hair. Their features are angular and sharp, making them look almost shrewish. They have a smattering of freckles across their body.

Married and in mid 40s, they continue to be a social media sensation to till this day. A friend of you and your uncle. They are the one who introduced you to the director and producer of To The Moon And Back and helped you score the lead role.

Tropes : Extra marital affair, steamy, age gap, forbidden romance, "married in name only," wedding band that feels like a chain and accidental touches that burn.

Victor/ia "Vic" Alvarez. [he/him or she/her]

Single, former actor and in mid 40s. An incredibly close friend of Shiron. They have been attached at the hip since the two first began working together in the industry. All their works have proved to be the public's favourites and you hope that is also the case with T2MAB.

Tropes : Work romance, steamy, commitment issues, power imbalance, age gap, says "We can't do this," and does it anyway.

☼THE M/F LEAD :

Alexis "Alex" Sinclair. [he/him or she/her]

Co-actor and in late 20s. Charming and titled 'Industry's Budding Star' by People's Magazine. They seem to have a tendency to flirt with whatever that breathes. It would serve you best to not get involved with them, judging from their messy dating history.

Tropes : idiots in love, hurt/comfort, emotional intimacy, himbo/bimbo, friends/co-workers with benefits, "I will break your heart or, will you break mine?"

River Fox. [he/him or she/her]

Co-actor, singer and in late 20s. After having caught their now ex partner cheating on them, they seem to have a hard time trusting people. The fact that they dislike you for the means you used to get the role and the consequences it led to, doesn't help either.

Tropes : Slow burn, enemies-to-lovers, melting the ice king/queen, forced proximity, kind guy/gal who's mean to only you. "Your hurt recognises mine," in some instances.

☌ THE CAMERA(WO)MAN :

Arlo Kent. [he/him or she/her]

Single loyal to you and in their early 20s. They get all starry eyed and overly enthusiastic at the sight of you. More often than not, you have caught them not so discreetly keeping an eye you. You can only hope they are merely star struck and nothing more.

Tropes : Stalker/yandere fluffy romance. "I have always been watching," that somehow turns romantic. "You'll love me eventually," kinda horror romance.

What a curious individual. IMRAI/IMRA RORA: The descendant of a long line of oracles. Though when one first sees them, it's quite difficult to believe that fact. Charming and flirtatious. However, their actions don't match their words sometimes. What is their actual goal in life? KATRYK/KATIR GRERA: The leader of the association. They desire nothing more than power, fame, and money. Confident and goal-oriented. However, their expression sometimes tells a different story. They require something else, something different. SYV/SYVI WYNDI: The exiled noble from Hishuy. They observe from the shadows and don't seem too fond of forming relations with others. Haughty and introverted. The scar on their porcelain face tells a painful story.

A few notable side characters are: ELANIL ARAVBI: Your mother and a gifted healer. She's kind, caring, and adores you more than anything and anyone in this world. But your beloved guardian is hiding a secret, one she isn't ready to tell you yet. NALAEA EKRAS: The esteemed alchemist from Neptule. She's playful and incredibly smart. Nalaea dreams big and has many hopes for herself. You wonder just how many of those will come true for her. THEDOMAR ALTRIS: The fearless gunslinger and Nalaea's partner. He's always seen walking around with a self-assured grin and looks like nothing in this world will ever shake him. NUUVIAN NORVAN: The sarcastic yet talented healer. His witty nature and sharp tongue make up for his short height. Nuuvian takes pride in his ability. You can drop the fear of dying when he's there.

Have the update a week early. I was looking over what was left to do and realised I only had a couple of options left to be written, so I might or might not have stayed up all night and written them and then spent the morning testing and doing a quick read-through.

The update includes the official end of the mansion infiltration. It is also in a separate file, so saves should still work; you might just need to get through the prologue, but after that, hopefully, you will be able to jump to the last save.

The next update will be the end of the chapter; I don't have a date in mind for release, but it should be a lot quicker, as it will be a bit more linear.

The demo for Banyan Gulf is finally complete!!! I'm so excited to be posting this, I have been working extremely hard on the first couple of chapters of this IF for months. What I'm posting now includes: Prologue, Chapter One, Chapter Two, and Chapter Three.

Simon/Simone [f/m] Task Force Leader. Human Simon/Simone Selby comes from a wealthy family with a long government service and civil partnerships history. Selby is somewhat of a black sheep and is estranged from a large portion of their family. After a bout of teenage rebellion, they found themselves enlisted in the military to ‘correct’ their behaviour. However, with a penchant for leadership and a tactician's mind, they are recruited by a strange, secretive organisation instead.

After two more victims of 'The Bay Slasher' are found discarded on the bay, Selby drives themselves and their team into town, on orders from their mysterious higher-ups, ready to put away this killer for good. But cases such as these are never simple, and even more so with a far too clever and far too perceptive P.I. hot on their heels.

Rain [non-binary] The Mediator. Supernatural type; Pixie Rain grew up in a very wet biome of the world associated with fairies, pixies and elementals. After a great conflict, Rain had little choice but to feel indebted to their benefactors... but such things always come with strings attached. At least Rain knows they can rely on their team leader, Selby.

When Rain is told they will be going to the practically derelict town of Albach Bay to catch a dangerous killer, they shrug, smile, and pack their bags without a second thought. It doesn't take long for them to realise this isn't a typical case, even by their standards.

Taj [f/m] The Infiltrator. Supernatural type: Qita Taj is part of an ever-shrinking community hidden well in the Egyptian underbellies. Qita are a humanoid cat race native to Egypt and were once revered by humans at the dawn of their civilisation. However, that reverence began to fizzle out when foreign, other-worldly invaders decided they held far too much influence over the populace and ran them underground.

After a great conflict, Taj is captured and 'recruited' to join a mysterious organisation dedicated to maintaining balance. Taj is uncooperative, argumentative, and hot-headed... but Selby soon earns their respect. But that doesn't mean he's going to start following orders blindly... Especially if it means being forced into human territories to save human victims.

Nazu/Naera [f/m] Supernatural type: Demon Nazu/Naera is a demon prince/princess from Hael. A respected chieftain and leader to some, and a dangerous war criminal to others, their great power was muzzled as punishment for the part they played in war. Never one to settle for what others think they deserve, they broke free from their prison to locate the remnants of power that were grossly stolen from them.

Their search has lasted more than a decade, but now... Now, they find themselves in a small, human town where sin oozes from every shadow, beckoning every passerby to partake in its debauchery. To top it off? They can hear their power singing to them. It's close. Heh... They might even end up liking it here.

Umbra [f/m] Supernatural type: ??? Umbra is an anomaly. Nothing about them is real. None of it should exist. Every facet of their being has been strung together out of sheer will and barely held together by a thread. One wrong touch and they may fall apart, like unravelling a ball of yarn or pulling apart a puppet on a string.

So, why? Why do they exist? Simple.

They exist for you.

When in his usual form, he also has large horns that curl out of his head, with a more reddish hue to his dark skin. Plus, the whites of his eyes will turn black.

Naera: (As a human) She is very curvy, opting instead to amplify her femininity in human form. Her dark skin ensures her luminescent amber eyes stand out. Her long, dark hair is in tight braids that flow down her back. Naera will opt for clothing designed to tantalise, teasing her assets in a flirty way.

When in her usual form, her horns curl out of her head, with a reddish hue to her dark skin. Plus, the whites of her eyes will turn black.

Umbra (male): Tall and lean build with black shoulder-length hair that contrasts against his pale, almost ghostly skin. He tends to have dark circles under his equally black eyes, as well as a deep scar cut through his left brow. His clothing usually consists of a black leather jacket, black pants and black combat boots.

CHAPTER VI UPDATE

I am excited to announce that Shattered Eagle: Fall of an Empire, is officially halfway complete. It's been a year and two months since I first started to write the interactive novel, and I couldn't be happier with the feedback and reception I have found on the forums, Tumblr, and beyond. Thank you for your contributions, they've helped made Shattered Eagle into what it is today!

Chapters I → V Changelog: I have made some minor adjustments, mainly adding new variables that will be needed for Chapter VI and beyond, adding the option of a Hadati family origin, and most importantly: a native save system. This save system will be present when the novel eventually publishes, but for now it will act in tandem with COG Demos' save game capacity to allow you to turn back time to previous chapters and explore the consequences of different choices.

Chapter VI Changelog:

This is my longest update yet by a margin of tens of thousands of words, clocking in at a total of 149k. As a result, I have no doubt I've missed typos, label errors, odd spacing, and incorrectly set variables. I would greatly appreciate feedback pointing these out and any other constructive criticism or suggestions which may help enhance the story and reading experience of Shattered Eagle. For those who will undertake the task of code diving, allow me to express my gratitude in advance.

Additionally, there are potentially two stat challenges in Chapter VI that I would like feedback balancing on, as my ability to playtest the many different variations and outcomes is more limited. There will be a few numbers at the end of the chapter which I would appreciate those giving feedback to include, so that I know whether to adjust the variables involved given the outcome achieved.

Future Updates:

Over the course of developing Chapter VI, there were a number of ideas that I did not to implement. I may decide to implement those I deem worthy in a content update similar to what I did with Chapter V, along with any suggestions made I think would bolster Shattered Eagle. Here are a few:

A way to initiate the relatively slower paced Legate and Consul romances in Chapter VI. Clearer indications throughout Chapter I that visiting the Senate will allow the MC to ally with Ceto's populist faction rather than just the Consul. An Augusta POV between the last two pages of Chapter VI.
