My boss and I have moved computers out of the way between our desks so we can lean to the side and stare at each other whenever we hear something completely unhinged from the customers at the self-service printing area like:
it happens almost daily.
#sometimes my job feels like an 8 hour long Parks & Recs' town hall meeting scene#but for printing#one customer brought stone slabs and didn't even ask before trying to put it into the printer#another printed out 10 pages from a previous customer who forgot to log out before leaving's email because she ''couldn't log into her own'#-then she went to the other computer and suddenly could log into her own email. but then never printed out anything of her own stuff...#HOW DID YOU END UP PRINTING OUT SOMEONE ELSE'S DOCUMENTS BY 'ACCIDENT' IF YOU WEREN'T HERE TO PRINT??

I’ve been playing Star Wars: Outlaws this weekend and I genuinely don’t understand the bad reviews I read about it. Like, it’s basically if Assassin’s Creed was a Star Wars game so it’s right up my alley so far.
#like so many bad reviews about this game#are they just mad it’s not a lightsaber game?#granted i have been stuck doing pointless side quests#because i am not immune to map markers and full quest logs#but i am jumping back on the main story for a bit#is the combat great?#no not really but i’ve played worse#same for the stealth system#i like the lockpicking and the computer slicing is literally fallout hacking so not unfamiliar#idk i am having a lot of fun#plus you can pet your little pet merqaal AND other animals so that’s a win#i did hear that the story is predictable#but as someone who guesses the endings 9/10 times#why would that bother me lol

#jo in the tardis*#i cried before the class and then we had to do this exam on the computers#as a final evaluation or whatever and my account just WOULDN'T work and irl house and my favourite assistant were there with me#trying to fix it and they were both like you are ALWAYS on this account solving everything we know you would know how to log in#and then we managed to do it and when i tried to hand in my answers it just wouldn't accept them#so that's why i was in irl house's office because he was trying to fix it#and he has SO many books there... sooooo many i was just turning around trying to read every title#and i just kept thinking i really really hope i have this someday#and i had to try soooo hard not to cry right there#i've never had this in my life. ever. never ever ever ever. this sense of belonging somewhere entirely#and i think both irl house and my assistant sensed this was my problem today and they were both so kind to me#and she literally said that it doesn't end when the classes end ANY of it i can always come to lectures and ask them things#and that also made me want to cry#i just really love this place and these people and i can't afford to lose it... like i don't know what will i do if i fail this year#and can't come back for the next... i've finally FOUND my place and i can't lose it#like what will i do...

For anyone who didn't see it... I finally updated The Light at the End of the Night and uh, shit is goin' down.
I'm already working on chapter 11 and here's a lil tidbit that I've written if anyone is interested - I'm putting it under the cut because you'll be very confused if you haven't read Ch. 10 yet!
“Don’t do anything weird to him,” Dabi glared at Ujiko as the doctor approached, “Patch him up and see if you can’t salvage his wings. Just don’t run any of your crazy-ass experiments on him.” “Oh but what if I must run a ‘crazy-ass’ experiment in order to salvage his precious wings?” Ujiko questioned as he knelt down and started to examine the damage. “Which is looking very likely with the state he’s in. Say, Dabi, this is your work, isn’t it?” he questioned, gesturing to the deep burns on Hawks’ back. “Yeah, which means you know how to treat it, right?” Dabi shot back, trying to shove down the guilt that bubbled up despite the fact that Hawks had asked him to do it. “For a price,” Ujiko said, voice low so only Dabi could hear as he rummaged in his bag and pulled out a jar that had some sort of burn salve in it. Anger swelled inside Dabi, blood running hot and fingers itching to blast the bastard with flames but he knew that wouldn’t help anything. “You have the League’s loyalty, isn’t that good enough?” he gritted out. “Yes, yes. Typically, that is, but Dabi - my dear - you’re asking me to treat the number two pro hero here,” Ujiko laughed.
#trans dabi#dabihawks#the light at the end of the night#my fic#writing#also wtf is up with tumblr????#this is the first time ive logged on on my computer for a while and like.... wtf?#i hate it

Image description from the notes by @summery-captain:
"A post by James L. Cook, reading: "I was watching an interview with Noam Chompsky and he was asked about AI software, specifically Chat GPT and its impact on education. He replied that Chat GPT isn't about learning, it's about avoiding learning.
And then the light went on.
Recently I was in discussion with a peer group about an article written by James Marriot for the Times. He's basically an art school drop out that never spent any real time developing his skill to become an artist. And now he's bitter that he's not successful and that artists with real skill are 'gatekeepers' to his success.
To be honest it was a very entitled rant that demonized people who have worked very hard to hone their craft as elitists and prestige squatters. In his article he welcomes AI generators because he thinks it levels the playing field between his mediocre efforts and those snobby, gatekeeping artists.
And that's where the connection hit... (channels Chompsky) AI image generating isn't about making art. It is about AVOIDING making art. Let the computer do it. I'm too lazy to log the long emotionally wearing hours. I'm too impatient to listen to masters. I'm too self-absorbed to spend my time laboring over a work that requires me to use sophisticated critical thinking. Let the machine do it.
AI imagine generation isn't about making art. It's about AVOIDING MAKING art." End of imagine description

Cybercriminals are abusing Google’s infrastructure, creating emails that appear to come from Google in order to persuade people into handing over their Google account credentials. This attack, first flagged by Nick Johnson, the lead developer of the Ethereum Name Service (ENS), a blockchain equivalent of the popular internet naming convention known as the Domain Name System (DNS). Nick received a very official looking security alert about a subpoena allegedly issued to Google by law enforcement to information contained in Nick’s Google account. A URL in the email pointed Nick to a sites.google.com page that looked like an exact copy of the official Google support portal.
As a computer savvy person, Nick spotted that the official site should have been hosted on accounts.google.com and not sites.google.com. The difference is that anyone with a Google account can create a website on sites.google.com. And that is exactly what the cybercriminals did. Attackers increasingly use Google Sites to host phishing pages because the domain appears trustworthy to most users and can bypass many security filters. One of those filters is DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail), an email authentication protocol that allows the sending server to attach a digital signature to an email. If the target clicked either “Upload additional documents” or “View case”, they were redirected to an exact copy of the Google sign-in page designed to steal their login credentials. Your Google credentials are coveted prey, because they give access to core Google services like Gmail, Google Drive, Google Photos, Google Calendar, Google Contacts, Google Maps, Google Play, and YouTube, but also any third-party apps and services you have chosen to log in with your Google account. The signs to recognize this scam are the pages hosted at sites.google.com which should have been support.google.com and accounts.google.com and the sender address in the email header. Although it was signed by accounts.google.com, it was emailed by another address. If a person had all these accounts compromised in one go, this could easily lead to identity theft.
How to avoid scams like this
Don’t follow links in unsolicited emails or on unexpected websites.
Carefully look at the email headers when you receive an unexpected mail.
Verify the legitimacy of such emails through another, independent method.
Don’t use your Google account (or Facebook for that matter) to log in at other sites and services. Instead create an account on the service itself.
Technical details Analyzing the URL used in the attack on Nick, (https://sites.google.com[/]u/17918456/d/1W4M_jFajsC8YKeRJn6tt_b1Ja9Puh6_v/edit) where /u/17918456/ is a user or account identifier and /d/1W4M_jFajsC8YKeRJn6tt_b1Ja9Puh6_v/ identifies the exact page, the /edit part stands out like a sore thumb. DKIM-signed messages keep the signature during replays as long as the body remains unchanged. So if a malicious actor gets access to a previously legitimate DKIM-signed email, they can resend that exact message at any time, and it will still pass authentication. So, what the cybercriminals did was: Set up a Gmail account starting with me@ so the visible email would look as if it was addressed to “me.” Register an OAuth app and set the app name to match the phishing link Grant the OAuth app access to their Google account which triggers a legitimate security warning from [email protected] This alert has a valid DKIM signature, with the content of the phishing email embedded in the body as the app name. Forward the message untouched which keeps the DKIM signature valid. Creating the application containing the entire text of the phishing message for its name, and preparing the landing page and fake login site may seem a lot of work. But once the criminals have completed the initial work, the procedure is easy enough to repeat once a page gets reported, which is not easy on sites.google.com. Nick submitted a bug report to Google about this. Google originally closed the report as ‘Working as Intended,’ but later Google got back to him and said it had reconsidered the matter and it will fix the OAuth bug.

[Translation]
The scare Linux just gave me.
As reference; if Linux's graphic interface is being weird, go to the command terminal with Ctrl + Alt + F3 o F4 o F5 and use the command: sudo service gdm3 restart
Sudo is temporal (this command) root priviliges (from what I understand)
Service gdm3 is the graphic interface service
Restart just restarts the service
All together: using root priviligies for this command, restart the graphic interface service.
Do not believe just because. Look it up just in case. Nobody wants to repeat the french packet.
#Linux#I was waiting for my computer to end updating for 3 hours#While trapped in an authorization error in the logging screen#So I couldn't even know if it was done updating or forcing a reboot would brick my entire computer#Linux noob

Tommy said on his recent alt stream that he always wished he couldve done a different ending for ctommy, and when jack went live on the smp he realized he could..
(timestamp- 49:00)
"I logged on Jack's stream, did that, stood in my cupboard, and was like, ‘Fuck, man. I just wish I could've ended it differently-’ and I was like- ‘OH I can! Right now !!’ And then I legged it back to my computer, wrote a few notes, and was like, ‘Okay, c'mon Tom, fuckin' lock in, man.’ ... Yeah, I was really happy with that."
"... It didn't even really make that much canonical sense to go to Techno's house, I just needed Jack to know without me saying anything that I was, fuckin', being really serious in-character."
"... Yeah, it was nice, I was really happy. I always had that ending in my head, like imagining that the alt ending was that he had a little cottage. So I liked it- I was like, ‘Yeah! This is fuckin' canon, man.’ ... It meant a lot to me- It really meant a lot to me! You ever like, be clearing through your bedroom and you find a toy that you forgot, fuckin' meant the world to you, then you're holding it and you're like, ‘Oh, shit. This is so important, right now I've remembered about this.’ That's what it was like doing the cottage- I was like- I got to be a tiny bit c!tommy and I was like, ‘This is fuckin' important to me, lets fuckin' finish-! This is the most important thing right now!’"

every day (overstatement) i come up with increasingly more ridiculous ideas on how to approach fighting games
#was cleaning a laptop. as one does. cleaned the mouse as well. while doing that‚ a thought bubbled up to the surface. ''what if you bound#the attack keys to mouse buttons.'' IMMEDIATELY grinned in the most mischievous way.#just me mentally smiling like the grinch in that one gif. you know the one.#i think it might work though! see‚ the human hands are wired to default to doing motions in sync. this is why you have to put in effort to#move different fingers on each hand if you're moving them at the same time. it can be done with just a little conscious effort! however‚ if#you're trying to do a similar motion with two different fingers on each hand‚ your hands will tend to move the same two fingers even more#than usual. which‚ again‚ is an easy thing to avoid if you can allow yourself to pay attention to what your fingers are doing#but if you're focusing on something else (like‚ say‚ looking at what your opponent in a fighting game is doing)‚ controlling your motor#functions becomes drastically more difficult. you have to choose between diverting your attention to the placement of your fingers‚ or‚ to#put it bluntly‚ mashing.#HOWEVER#if your hands aren't performing similar motor functions at the same time (say‚ if one hand is controlling the movement via keys while the#other is controlling the attacks via pressing mouse buttons)‚ the issue of the hands tending towards synchronicity is no longer an issue‚#because your hands are doing motion patterns that are different enough for them not to try to sync up!#at least‚ that's how it should work‚ theoretically speaking. i've yet to test this out while playing a game‚ but it worked just fine when i#was testing out the motions themselves! i'm very eager to try this out whenever i end up finding the time to even approach my computer#TL;DR (bilbo baggins voice) after all‚ why not? why shouldn't i play fighting games like a shooter?#logs

I hate software I hate people who make software I hate computers. For a small stipend, I could make some of the software on some of the computers slightly less broken. I couldn't possibly be any worse at this than the people who do it now. But nobody will let me, because of the economy
#all i wanted to do was make an account on this personal finance app thing. not an obscure one. big famous huge one#that you would think would do what it's supposed to do at least a little bit.#after an hour and a half of jaqueline from tech support telling me to try different platforms with slightly different settings#i have an account. on the mobile app. i can't add a password through the app and i can't log in anywhere else without a password#i don't particularly want an account anymore (being capricious and prone to giving up on things)#but i entered my bank account info in the one i half-made so i want to delete it#obviously the first step to delete your account is to log in. the thing i can't do.#jaqueline from tech support disconnected (devastating betrayal) (after everything we had been through together) (didn't even say goodbye)#so i'm going to have to try to explain all of this to some new jaqueline who isn't paid enough or given a procedure to follow#when there's an actual problem that can't be solved by a somewhat technologically literate end user#and they're going to be like 'have you tried it in chrome with cookies triple enabled under the full moon after turning it off and back on?#and i'm going to be like i don't want to try it in chrome again i want to arrange a pistol duel#with one or more of your senior backend developers please#and i want my brother's computer science professor to start explaining how ocaml works properly so i don't keep having to drop everything#every time he has a homework assignment due to walk him through it line by line#and then i want my college tuition refunded and a do-over of my entire adult life and a personal heartfelt apology from anyone who ever sai#that you should learn to code instead of majoring in underwater basket weaving#because i'm pretty sure you don't need years of experience you have no way in hell of acquiring#before you can apply for an '''''''''entry level''''''''' job as an underwater basket weaver#and your teenage coworkers at your retail job don't act all surprised and confused and like there must be something wrong with you#(there are several things but that's not the problem)#when you tell them that you're having a hard time getting hired to weave baskets#because the market for that kind of thing is really oversaturated rn actually#and basket weaving is a beautiful traditional art form that also happens to be quite useful#because the thing about baskets is they fucking work.#:wq

Reposting this post in the CR tags since I'm sure quite a few critters bought digital copies of the CR comics. This affects all digital copies of Critical Role comics accessible through the official publisher, Dark Horse Digital.
If you bought the official digital copies, you will lose access to all Critical Role comics later this year.
