i love tech. i love this era of information. i googled a bazillion different sources when i made my Windows/Linux dual boot last year because i've always been paranoid to change OS. Everyone said it worked fine. I open Windows for a couple hours today and it updates the BIOS against my will and breaks the dual boot. I look it up and now all of a sudden I find ten billion tech bros saying that yeah, actually, this happens all the time, and you should have installed the EFI (no explanation given, you know what an EFI is, of course you do) in different drives, and it could have been much worse because Windows could have just corrupted the ubuntu boot somehow yeah it does that of course, and you should have also turned off secure boot, that's something you knew how to do and had to do it, obviously, how do you not know all this.

For anyone with extensive CPU knowledge, please please please I am reaching out.

I have a Windows 8 (sue me), and I got it used from a guy that rebuilds laptops. When I start it up, it will start, open to the login page, and once it unlocks, the entire display is dark. It's on, because the light is still coming from the screen, but there's no display whatsoever.

I've tried letting it die and recharging it, turning it on and off, and disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, but so far I've had no luck.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Actually regarding the search engine thing, ChatGPT is about the worst way to go about doing research. Since all it really does it regurgitate websites online, you have no way of checking if the source from which ChatGPT pulled the information is actually reliable. If you're using Google or Bing, you can at least evaluate the source's reliability yourself. Sure, you're still susceptible to misinformation, but at least you can make the judgement yourself. You don't get that with ChatGPT because it doesn't cite its sources.

Also if you're not good at maths, please DO NOT USE CHATGPT TO HELP YOU SOLVE PROBLEMS! Most of the answers that it gives are wrong and even if you're right, if you don't understand the problem you can't learn. There are online forums, YouTube videos, and real-life resources (like your teachers) that you can turn to. ChatGPT is arguably one of the worst things that you can turn to.

I'll admit that I've also turned to AI before when I was struggling with physics problems, but they've never yielded good results. I guarantee that no matter how much you're struggling in maths, there are always better options than using AI to solve problems.

Very cool webbed site! Thoughts on using Neocities so far? I’ve been thinking of using it to make a site at some point but I haven’t learned any type of coding yet lmao so I’m a little nervous to jump in

its been pretty easy so far! for mine i yoinked a template by ribozone and started editing it with my bare-bones html and css knowledge.

its pretty easy to pick up the basics of both of those too, i actually first learned them back in like middle school and most of the fundamentals stuck. i usually use a combination of youtube videos and w3schools to bumble my way around lmao so while its definitely got a learning curve its not too steep of one.

as for like, code editors and such ive been using visual studio code for a while now and it hasn't done me wrong yet (though vim does tempt me, maybe once im not so smoothed brained when it comes to coding). also recommend penpot if you wanna play around with designing your layouts from scratch, ive dabbled in ui design quite a bit and its a good free & open source alternative to figma!

overall its not that hard to pick up imo! just go try it its pretty fun once you get into the swing of things
