LOVEEEED Peachyville Ep 12
(messy spoilers under the cut)
i had high expectations for the reveals of the ep and while i got something different, i was pleasantly surprised!!
the cast was very funny and seemed in great spirits this ep!! its unfortunate anthony was sick but i really enjoyed hearing him laugh so much
major kudos to beth for being able to pull off distinct voices for og trudy and our trudy, and even june feels different
i really liked the insert of the Bluebeard's Wife system (i'll have to go check it out). i really enjoyed how each player was able to contribute to trudy's character in a more orderly way. while i found tony's past so funny, i do think it feels a bit too chaotic and i can see how some ppl would be turned off by it; i feel like this was a more systematic approach to the same concept and felt more appropriate for a tragic character like trudy. i kinda hope they do similar things for kelsey, francis and maybe even blake lmao
i particularly loved how will dmed the system, writing prompts pointed at each player/sister and and doing it in a sequence that felt like it progressed the story in a linear way, if that makes sense. it shows of how strong a writer he is and i love that for him
i appreciate how restrained but funny freddie was this ep, particularly as marilyn. both of his character's accents were very funny and while he did some classic "freddie pushes the limits" a lot of his choices felt reasonable and didnt drastically derail the episide
anthony made some really interesting roleplaying choices, like making trudy interested in sports/physical science (which makes trudy being part of their bowling team so much more interesting!!) and his use of the shield ability and his argument there (+ beths response) was vv juicy for me to think about
will was so good acting as the fifth sister, his manic whispers and screaming were really great
(i feel bad not mentioning matt, he was great and funny!! i just feel like everyone else shined more for me)
also, i really like the secret convo between the trudys, og trudy is so interesting and complex, and i loveeee the journey our trudy is going on right now
finally, PTERODACTYL????

I don't even know where to start with my love for this post, I've literally been rereading it over and over all day. This is by far the best interpretation of Trudy's parenting I've ever seen. It really captures the complex family dynamic we see onscreen with the twins, both with their mother and each other.
It's easy to focus on Trudy's evident abuse of Bo in the opening scene, but I think this is the first time I've seen anyone really analyse her interaction with Vincent. It's also one of the few times I've seen anyone speculate about his perspective or thoughts regarding his mother and her parenting, and I think you're spot on. Vincent wasn't showered with unconditional love while Bo got constant abuse. He was smothered with overbearing attentiveness that probably caused more issues than it fixed. Helicopter parenting certainly lines up with many traits fans have inferred from Vincent's portrayal, such as perfectionism, overdependence, and an anxious disposition.
I also felt that his perception of their mother wasn't as idolised as Bo's, and would go as far as to say that during his and Bo's kitchen convo I felt a hint of...exhasperation? Even weariness. At Trudy, at Bo's idolised view of her that he seemingly can't reject out loud, maybe even the purpose of their murderplot. I always imagined his feelings towards her to be something like 'I love you but please stop I'm begging you, why are you like this, why can't you be better for us', and I feel like part of that frustration came from knowing that none of the hovering and fussing was ever really for him as much as it was for her to feel better about herself, so any conversation about his feelings on the matter would have been pointless. If not immediately dismissed it would have just caused an argument, and this family has enough of those already, right? No need to rock the boat.
I have also never seen that newspaper clipping about Victor?! Could I ask where you found it? It completely throws loads of backstory theories out the window. Your version makes the lead-up to the murderplot make so much sense too. Bo and Vincent didn't just wake up one day and choose violence for no reason, but rather the pressure slowly built up: their father passing, the mill shutting down and all the jobs disappearing, then the town's inhabitants leaving, and lastly their mother's death. I imagine they found themselves alone in their now dead hometown, feeling washed up, lacking the practical and social skills to set off on their own (Vincent in particular), grieving the most pivotal person in their lives, and fit to burst with rage at the world. With their minds already cracked from their upbringing, and nothing to lose, it's easy to imagine how one thing led to another...Maybe some lost jackass gets a little too cocky with Bo at his mechanic shop, a fight ensues, Bo doesn't quite pull his punches like he knows he should and accidentally kills him. And then all it takes is a 'Yes, I know this is bad, Vince, but listen. You know how you've been having trouble sculpting like mama used to...?'
Anyway yes all this is to say this was a fantastic read! Thank you for sharing your thoughts, hope you don't mind me going on a mad ramble on your post haha. (Also could I ask you to link that study of a similar conjoined case? I've been looking for a real life counterpart to the twins' condition and could not find one for the life of me!)

Trudy refills Vincent’s cereal. He’s 2-3 years old and blind in one eye. He doesn’t need more cereal, he just needs his bowl rotated so he can see the cereal that was left over on his blind side. Not that we necessarily know how Vincent communicates without speech, but she hardly gives him time to answer her question about more before she’s refilling the bowl anyways. This is her approach to parenting her boys in general.
There’s no interest in fixing their actual issues. Rather than help Vincent to see what he already has in front of him, she’d rather add more, inadvertently also adding more onto the side he can’t see. At some point, this would just add to the issue. Overcompensation into overwhelm. Bo is brought in for breakfast kicking and screaming and it’s sort of evident why Trudy puts all her love into Vincent to the point of it being suffocating and unhelpful. Sure it could be a simple case of favoritism, but with the aspect of overcompensation specifically, it seems that she wants to balance her guilt over failing to parent one of her sons by pouring more effort than necessary into Vincent. Rather than giving the extra attention to Bo, it’s refilling a non-empty bowl of cereal.
I don’t think that necessarily mean she loves Vincent more. She finds him easier to parent. Fill the bowl whether or not he needs it because that’s easier than unpacking where Bo’s massive emotional outbursts are coming from. It seems more like love-bombing than genuine kindness. He’s “being such a good boy today,” but the implied part is an unsaid comparison to Bo. As twins, and conjoined twins at that, they’re not independent of each other. Vincent’s behavior exists only to contrast Bo’s, from her perspective. “Fix” his needs, and she can fix them both. Hence, preferring just to duct tape Bo to a chair than help him any.
Then Vincent grows up to become her protege, starting in his childhood but lasting until even after Trudy’s death. Over thirty years have passed since they were toddlers in those high chairs, but Bo gives a hint about why Vince got that ‘special privilege’ to not be as physically abused. “She always said that your talent would make up for what God took away from you.” Only, God didn’t take anything. Victor Sinclair doing illegal, unqualified surgery on his babies is why Vincent lost half of his face. Trudy only uses God’s name and religion as a shield for her own guilt about how her boys turned out. But it’s more likely she included Vincent in the wax business because she again, was dumping affection onto him over and over as her strategy.

Otherwise there isn’t as much favoritism between the boys. In their childhood photos, they both play piano, both play pool and baseball, both get to sit at the table with their birthday cake (without highchairs or bindings) and they play on the floor together. It's not entirely divisive between them, though it’s still obvious from which brother she’s slapping across his face and which brother she’s love-bombing which she’d prefer to deal with. Just not which she actually cares for more. Vincent wasn’t somehow spared from abuse in a house like the Sinclair household.

Interestingly, when Bo tells the story of Trudy and Victor, he mentions that once the Doc died, they were alone. Except, there’s at least one version of a prop newspaper stating that Trudy created a wax memorial for Victor. So this is just a false version of events most likely. Sure it could be that a decision changed, but there’s also the fact that, in the guns and ammo store, there’s a sign that says “Trudy’s Town or Wax.” And Bo tells Vincent, “We almost finished what mama started.” She’s also much older than the Trudy we see in the family photos and articles (even with the amount of cigarettes that woman smoked.) Ambrose is confirmed to have been abandoned for a decade, but to be turned into wax, Trudy would’ve had to die sometime between the abandonment of Ambrose and the present. Else she would’ve been properly buried most likely. The plan to fill Ambrose was hers, it’s just Bo that suggests using real humans (according to his apology to Vincent, he takes credit for the idea anyhow.)
Which makes her boys at least in their mid twenties when she died. In an older version of the script, Bo had killed her and Victor, but knowing it would put them all in foster care, that doesn’t quite make sense unless they were older. So the order of events is, Doc dying, the sugar mill closing, Trudy planning to reimagine Ambrose, and then dying herself.
The reason that’s important is because it’s emblematic of just how much pressure she was putting on both of her boys. And that’s not love. With two mentally ill, abused sons, (maybe three, since Lord only knows how they treated Lester once he came along,) that’s just manipulation. Victor and Trudy aren’t cartoon super villains for being bad to their boys. But when you can’t even just rotate a bowl slightly for your half blind little one, it’s shallow. Trudy has her cigarettes right in the boys faces in the opening and in most of the photos. Smoking was in one study linked to about 1/3rd of conjoined pregnancies, and in a similar case of conjoinment to the boys, one of the twins had lost an eye and had a prosthetic, but with minimal scarring because of the surgery being done in an actual legal hospital. It’s not about God taking anything, or about which is a little monsted and which is a very good boy- it’s about Trudy and Victor both messing up from the very beginning and causing the boys losses, then refusing to take accountability for it. Or, in the symbolic sense, to just do the right thing and turn a damn bowl of cheerios towards your blind kid.
#genuinely that first paragraph KILLED ME!!!#10/10#also this spawned a whole different ramble about Bo and Trudy that I will post shortly if anyone cares lol#vincent sinclair#bo sinclair#trudy sinclair#how: headcanons#how: characterisation#how: backstory#how: canon image

The bath was usually used for stuff people didn’t wanna know about. But it had just been cleaned and fuck it cause he’d managed to convince Kim to let him use it before the usual shit started to fill it. He just needed a set to relax after the shit that had happened in the cells earlier-- dumbfucks had fought together and ignored him. They were all dead now.
He really needed a bath.
He heard someone getting in, but since his sixth sense was just telling him to be cautious cause he wasn’t alone anymore-- he didn’t pay them attention.

Lt. Lou Rodriguez not buying Tubbs’s bull $hit about moving to Miami to improve the quality of her life, by episode two of Miami Vice, will always be one of my favorite things.
He promptly reminds her that she’s only in Miami because of all those forged priority clearances and to avoid being fried for misconduct back in New York City. So really, she’s STUCK with him and the department whether or not she loves the quality of her lifestyle.
It was, however, definitely worth a try on Tubbs’s part. New boss, new rules. Except she quickly realizes she’s playing in a league that is mildly over her head. Her little tactics are no match to whatever he was putting up with from Crockett and the others.
#also LOU puts up with so much BS from Tubbs and Crockett#its no wonder he's balding six years of Crockett - years of Wheeler- and trying to break in Stan and Lar with their sick senses of humor#Gina and Trudy are like Lou's angles I swear#And Tubbs certainly isn't helping that mix at all. Now is she?#I love Castillo. He's one of my favorites#but Lou never gets the credit he deserves. Okay? Lou tries to keep his crazy kiddos in LINEEE#how many hotheads can one man take under his wings???#new boss - new rules right?#XDDD#rewatching Brother's Keeper#Lou Rodriguez appreciation#Also everyone calls him LOUUUUUUUUUU#instead of Lieutenant#Or boss#so its clear he loves and respects his guys and is loved back#rewatching heart of darkness#suspensions and misconduct are definitely things Tubbs and Crockett both have in common if the St. Vitus dance convo means anything

My 1x3 cpd rewatch notes
I'm rewatching all of cpd and making notes on it as I do so to type up afterwards for y'all. It'll just be basically my reactions and thoughts during the rewatch but I thought some of you might appreciate them.
The hooker and wife storyline is so ridiculous and unnecessary.
Adam trying to get out of his engagement party my sweet summer child do you not think this is a sign
Al deserved to go to an engagement party of Adam's :(
"The married one who lives in his garage"
Also it's so cute he didn't want Al near Wendy because of those optics but it's those things that Adam took and and made him grow into the man he is now.
Lindsay sassing Jay I love her.
Really miss intelligence working like this together.
Adam my baby's first shoot out :(
The bullet holes in the door makes me feel so uncomfy
Kev and Kim my beloveds with Trudy.
Canon mention Kim has a cousin.
"I don't need to see a counselor" oh Adam darling.
"I don't need to wear pants but here I am" Al I hope you know just how much I adore you.
Antonio and Erin 💖
This episode is probably the last time Kim's mentioning friends out of pd.
Kev and the flight attendants oh my babe
Kim's ponytail is so cute and short
"Christmas" "what" "Christmas is the code word" - I miss this humour, over lapping convos.
Lindsay "are you kidding me" in front of the unit.
My poor Adam baby. "I'm fine" stop lying my babe.
Kim and Kev ❤️

No because we haven’t had a good Platt and Hailey convo since 6x20 when Platt talks to her about her relationship with Adam
But this time their conversation is about Jay. And Trudy tells Hailey it’s not just her anymore. Shes gonna tell her that has a husband to think about who was worried sick 😵💫 she’s gonna be the mother figure Hailey hasn’t had through relationships.

Overall thoughts on the episode?
Overall, I thought it was a great episode! It's definitely one I'm going to have to go back and watch eventually because I honest to god had half an idea what was actually going on plot wise. Jay Halstead was distracting me too damn much. I thought it really let Jay's natural sense of leadership shine, and I feel as though it was a set up for whatever role they plan for Jay to play in the finale/Voight&Anna storyline. I'm definitely sad about the lack of upstead scenes, but I went into the episode kinda expecting it after seeing the promo. I'm going to do my loves/crits because I feel like there were many on both sides (I kinda like the idea of doing this for all eps from now on if you're interested) I'll put it under a cut since this will be a bit long:
Loves:
The Sergeant Jay vibes were immaculate. Jesse was phenomenal throughout, but I think he specifically played that struggle of Jay wanting to support the kid while also being skeptical of him so well. Also the scenes where he was calling out instructions in the field was so sexy to me
That flirty upstead scene? It was so true to them and it definitely seemed like a moment of lightness Jay needed in that moment
THE SILENT COMMUNICATION - truly one of my favorite things about upstead and I love that in a show that lacks continuity this is one of the few things they have been able to keep constant
The Trudy and Jay content was 🤌🏼 and I'm going to need more of that
Hailey's little "Jay" after they get shot at towards the end was such a small moment, but you could hear the fear in her voice. She needed to know he was okay
I'm glad the kid turned out alright. I'm so intrigued by his story and I really hope this isn't the last of him (though I'm not holding my breath)
Crits:
I feel like they could've worked in a few more lines for upstead. I don't feel like this is me being greedy either. We used to get worried lines all the time before they were even canon. Personally, I would've written in something after all of those 10-1 calls, after/during being shot at together, or even before Jay went to talk to Torres in the locker room. Some sort of reassurance between them.
The plot point with the mole in the academy? I know they made it a big point so that it could be reason to cast doubt on Torres, but it was just so gimmicky. Like was his prior gang affiliation actually what they thought was the infiltration or is there someone else who is an active member mole in the academy? I feel like that could have used some clarity
The fact that they made Jay have the burden of the kid all alone. They acted as if Jay had chosen this kid and nobody gave him support as he struggled with the right way to suss him out. I know it was given to him as his responsibility, but I would have liked to have seen him talk it through with someone. The Voight convo was just not enough. I think this is something previous seasons Jay would have talked through with Hailey, but really I wanted to see him talk it through with Trudy. Especially since she was struggling on her own with thinking she brought a bad recruit into the unit.

Not the anon who asked it, but if you ever end up writing that Kim/Trudy post-engagement/post-miscarriage fic? I'd read it and re-read it. Very curious to know what you make of that post-engagement convo, especially as you mentioned you were recently rewatching the episode. :)
Ooooof I’ve got so many feelings around this.
I’ve an idea for a Burzek week fic that is a full fic soreading the week, but it’s a bit mad. If I don’t do it though, this one speaks to me. Just something soft, post miscarriage, how they need to rebuild but don’t know how.
I’m so soft even thinking about it.

Okay remember the episode when Adam and Hailey called it quits and it was driven by Trudy’s convo with Hailey saying that if she thought Adam was the one she needed to make it work but it would mean one of them leaving intelligence - do you think she’ll carry the same opinion towards Jay/Hailey?
I don't. Purely based on the fact that their partnership works so well together and they have a better understanding of how eachother operate versus Hailey and Adam.

So A War Zone is such a great episode even though we are losing both Tay AND Mouse at the same time! 😭
Let’s start with Mouse and the fact that he was really unhappy staying back at the end. Was it the right decision to go back? Who knows, but I am glad that Jay finally realised that he could not decide for his friend (thanks to a big nudge from Erin). More friend points because Jay told Platt about the felony that needed to disappear (clearly, she is the one making things happen rather than Voight and we all know it).
I SO loved the Burgess-Tay partnership and it’s immensely sad that not even “the woman that can” © managed to go over Fogel to let Tay stay, although it makes for a good reflection of where we’re at (or rather we’re not yet) in terms of gender equality. I’ll miss Tay and sincerely hope she will be back at some point, having prevailed over Fogel and gone onto more awesome things than parking tickets at the courthouse. Perhaps a reunion with Kim?
You go, girl! for Kim at the end, going to Voight and making her case as to why she is the right person for the unit. Although I know this will be the end of the patrol angle and I am doubly sad.
Shout out to my fave Trudy as well. That bit when she sits down with the kid and tells him that her mom was also angry most of the time but it’s not their fault? I need to know more! Because clearly, in between her convo about trust with her dad in 4x03, mentions to her mother before and the fact that both her parents seemingly weren’t that happy with her being a cop, and this? Where’s that damn backstory??? (And we all know that Amy would totally kill it) Saw a post before about how many of the characters in the OneChicago universe come from a fraught family background. Should we add Trudy too? I would love to know if this was part of the reason that pushed her into this career and also the fact that she might be more guarded around people at first.

Cont. of 5x10 w/these two smaller scenes:
First up is the tiny spat between Jay & Hailey. Jay wanted to go see Camila, and Hailey wasn’t having it since Camila was now a suspect. Again Jesse and Tracy kill it with the mirrored expressions. I still just can’t get over it I’m sorry. ⬆️ you see it below too I mean COME ON NOW
Note Hailey’s expression changed when Jay told her that he “knows” Camila. Hailey probably took that a little personal since she thought she knew Jay, y’know? Ugh I hate when these bbys fight. ⬆️
Oooof. And for once it’s Jay walking out on Hailey after a heated convo. Her solemn face just gets me every time. She tried her best, that’s all she could do. But she still puts it all on herself. ⬆️
Which actually brings me up to this next scene here:
First I just wanted to goofily point out that I love seeing left handed characters on screen! I’m a left handed person so I just find it fun cause you don’t see it much on tv. ⬆️ and I love how Hailey went to Trudy for advice.
Trudy even KNEW she wasn’t upset about the feds taking over and taking the credit. Nope, Trudy Platt (aka: captain of the SS Upstead) knew that Hailey was still worrying about Jay. ⬆️
And look at Hailey’s bit of relief on her face when Trudy tells her that it wasn’t on her. Jay’s decisions weren’t her fault. So. True. Everyone needs to listen to Trudy Platt more. Yep yep. ⬆️
BOTH SCENES POSTED BELOW:

In the middle of an intense match of Party Frenzy with Trudy, Victor noticed his crush, Hana, walking outside.
He quickly abandoned the game, annoying Trudy, and said hello to her. She seemed a little less hostile than the last time he tried to talk to her, probably because it had been a while since his brother had dumped her and she was pretty much over it.
At first she was receptive to his conversation but he ended up making it awkward once again by being overly forward with his feelings, but she laughed it off this time instead of getting angry. 😅
Walter, on his way home from Drama Club, judged his brother as he overheard some of the convo. 😂
