I remember the first day I watched game theory, I was around eight or nine. My best friend Asra had come over to hang out. Me and Asra loved fnaf, we had been obsessed since it came out. Watching dumb fan videos like circleteen, and I'm banana skits with the anamatronics as the cast. We even shipped the anamatronics, cut us some slack, we were really young when it first started.

And then we had just finished some video, i can't remember what it was. And then we saw an eye catching thumbnail in the next section

"Game theory: FNAF, The clue that SOLVES five nights at freddy's!"

Yep. The first theory me and my best friend watched, was dream theory. We were blown away, I mean we knew barebones lore at that time. And by bare bones I mean bare bones. We were so fascinated that we kept watching, clicking every video of his we could find.

Even after Asra left, I was still watching. And we never really stopped, as we got older we still watched, not just FNAF we watched all of them!

Of course, our FNAF hyperfixation ended eventually. But we didn't stop watching. We grew up but we didn't stop. In truth, I'm not sure if Asra watches him anymore, but whenever I'm drawing or sketching, I turn game theory on. Because I know il enjoy it, I know il love the theory regardless of how good the actual theory is.

I knew a lot of people didn't like Matpat. All the rumors of homophobia, transphobia, and probably more, I don't know about. I remember my older brother told me not to watch him because he ruined games. I didn't listen. I actively ignored him, and I don't regret it one bit.

I almost cried watching that video, and I want to cry.

Because while i don't know Matpat, he's not my friend. He's a part of my childhood, a large part. And him leaving feels like another gut punch, just like after I watched the FNAF movie. The gut punch that I couldn't avoid forever. Things change

And that concept still horrifies me. Because I know that things are going to keep changing, and that my childhood is going to leave. And that's okay.

Because Matpat deserves to leave, he always has. Him and Steph deserve the world. I hope Ollie grows up to be someone amazing. I hope their life is wonderful, because they made mine so happy. They made my bad days at school fade away when I got the notification that a new fnaf game theory was up.

So with this post i want to say thank you. Thank yoy Matthew, thank you for making my interests feel less stupid and more cool, thank you for donating to so many charities, thank yoy for making SO many peoples lives better. Thank you for being you.

And with all that said, this is just a goodbye. A proper goodbye, and cut.

So, I just played through the demo for FFVII:Rebirth and I have some thoughts! (Spoilers for the original FVII from here on out!)

Listen, it was good. It… It encompassed a scene from the OG game where Cloud recounts what exactly happened between him and Sephiroth before the events of the game. It's told in this really long flashback segment, so it was kinda perfect to showcase a demo for. It's interesting, my reaction to it, though? Because on one hand, it was very cool. Seeing these environments with 3D graphics, hearing the characters speak their lines, seeing just how… strange the disconnect is between Cloud then and Cloud present day, etc. It was all really well done. There's no argument it outshines the original game on all those facets.

But the atmosphere…

I feel like something was definitely lost in the translation. This is one of the most pivotal scenes in the entire game. This is where you find out who Sephiroth really is and just what drove him mad. In the original game, his turn was one of my absolute favorite moments (sad as it is). Because you see him piecing together his origins little by little until he just… snaps. All is quiet save for the constant chime of a bell and a steady rhythm like a heartbeat as you confront him a final time. He recounts what it is he's been reading in the long-forgotten records he's uncovered. He tells you of his origin--his creation. And then he stops speaking to you entirely. He says Mother is waiting. That he's going to see her.

And then the music starts. That horrible, haunting music as he sweeps past you with far too much ease, leaving you to scramble behind him in his wake. And when you return to the village--Cloud's hometown--you see it in flames, the dead and dying littering the square. And in the midst of it all, Sephiroth, wreathed in fire, slicing through them as he marches ever-onward towards the mountain where Jenova--his mother-- resides.

It's a chilling scene. There is tension and horror and fear inlaid in all of it. And the Demo version had those scenes, yes, but… The timing was different. The pacing was off. It didn't hit quite how it should have. (And listen, I also have a bit of an issue with Sephiroth's English VA. I get he was going for the whole "stoic and emotionless" vibe with him, which is fine, it suits him most of the time. But when he's actively losing his mind? When he's making crazed speeches? There should've been something! We only really got a few small moments where it seems like he gives in to any emotion at all, and they weren't conveyed through dialogue. Oof.) It was good. But it definitely didn't make me feel the same.

I think, between the new orchestration and arrangements of the music, the pacing that I felt dragged on just a little too long, and the unnecessary quicktime events and sequences of Cloud limping through Nibelheim (which were so slow as to be noticeably irritating for me >_>), Rebirth just didn't hit quite as hard. Still an excellent sequence in what I'm sure will be a great game, but yeah.

Just my two cents here! Definitely still looking forward to the full game release at the end of the month! :D

Someone in a weaving discord I'm in saw this much-jpg'd image on Facebook. They enjoyed it and crossposted it. I enjoyed it and asked if there was a source. Alas, unattributed. We would never know.

Not so! By their magical librarianship and citation-hunting powers, @ginneke tracked the image first to Pinterest, then a long-defunct blog, then a connection with the 1960s fairytale retellings of Amadel Williams-Ellis illustrated by one William Stobbs. He had the correct whimsical art style - a hit! Another server member suggested a likely candidate tale of Baba Yaga involving a cat and a loom.

Unfortunately, these books have never been digitised, not even the tables of contents, so there was no way to know whether they might be correct. And my various libraries had never heard of the books. However, for about £7 each on ebay they were within my shenanigans budget - I was invested now.

I ordered two, mostly at random. Leafed all the way through both of them, got nearly to the end with some delightful other creatures but not yet the Loom Cat...

..... and then all of a sudden there it was! In a Baba Yaga story in Round a the World Fairy Tales exactly as predicted! Success in tracking down an 80-year-old untitled children's book illustration via several people and much joy. I'm very satisfied and will put the full Baba Yaga tale in a reblog.

Pediatrician damian who is still a hero at heart and who has kicked ass when his hospital was briefly taken hostage by rogues. Who immediately jumped into a fight because the crying of tiny terrified children echoed in his ears and he was filled with enough righteous anger his 10 year old self would stagger.

Pediatrician damian who does everything in his power to make sure every kid who needs it gets Healthcare.

Pediatrician damian who refers to his patients as his kids.
