SUMMARY: Dave, an artist who has yet to complete anything significant in his career, builds a fort in his living room out of pure frustration, only to wind up trapped by the fantastical pitfalls, booby traps, and critters of his own creation.
Judging by the trailer, mod Sus is super interested to watch this. Looks like a ton of fun.

Dave Made A Maze (2017, dir. Bill Watterson)
House (1977, dir. Nobuhiko Obayashi)
Vivarium (2019, dir. Lorcan Finnegan)
Alice (1988, dir. Jan Švankmajer)
We're All Going to the World's Fair (2012, dir. Jane Schoenbrun)
Suspiria (1977, dir. Dario Argento)

I would definitely recommend the movie Dave Made A Maze (2017). It's a horror comedy about a clearly autistic guy who experiences intense hyperfixations and his current one is a cardboard maze he built in his apartment. The first death on screen is -- and I don't know how else to describe it -- fucking delightful. It'll make you smile so big, trust me, it's such a fun movie. Plus there's a hot minotaur.

watched anything neat lately?
yes actually!!
- chance (2002) dir. amber benson: a fun little romcom with a lot of the buffy cast. very amateur but in a very lovable way.
- dave made a maze (2017) dir. bill watterson: actually insanely creative beautiful funny movie with some awesome cardboard practical effects. super neat visually and not talked about enough!
- harvey (1950) dir. henry koster: classic tale of a man and his invisible 6’3 rabbit bestie rabbit. not life changing but really cute i’ve been wanting to see it/read the play. was trying to see any film representations of a pooka for my screenplay idea.
- frank (2014) dir. lenny abrahamson: micheal fassbender of magneto fame like you’ve never seen him before - portraying a man who is never seen without his emotional support massive fake head on! really neat concept and fun music stuff going on all over the place.
- blue velvet (1986) dir. david lynch: i love this movie i love this movie i love this movie. mystery and comedy and young hot kyle maclachlan all over the place looking like a fine butch lesbian while occasionally covered in blood and bruises.
and a ton of breaking bad i cant stop watching breaking bad i love breaking bad and jesse pinkman is my best friend in the entire world i want to help him because everything is awful for him and no one is nice to him but i would be nice to him
and twin peaks a lot of twin peaks because i have a showing of fire walk with me this tuesday and i have to be done with the first two seasons by then…
that’s the most recent stuff… i’m trying to expand my tastes but i’m not doing a very good job. i am getting some wacky indie stuff but it’s mostly recent stuff directed by white guys lately so i need to branch out… taking suggestions always.

File: Dave Made a Maze
SCP: AET
Code Name: Dave the Crafting Demigod.
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-AET-Labyrinth was destroyed before it could be discovered therefore no containment procedures have been made. Instead, the documentary made for SCP-AET has been allowed to exist as to help implement the cover story. The cover story being the creation of the movie was a student film created out of boredom.
SCP-AET-Creator is not to be contained but instead sent to Nexus Point-AD: Archios, Isla Nublar. There he, his girlfriend, and surviving friend are allowed to live there as well. SCP-AET has been given a job as an artist as well as secretly help in other Foundation experiments such as new containment methods and weapons design. It is with hope that SCP-AET will eventually get the hang of his powers and create something beneficial to the Foundation.
Description: SCP-AET-Creator is a Level 2 Reality Bender with his aspect of control being Paper and anything related such as Cardboard and Tissue Paper. His latest creation proved that he was a very powerful Level 2 Reality Bender, which was SCP-AET-Labyrinth. SCP-AET-Labyrinth was a small set of carboard boxes in plain view but inside it was a labyrinth. SCP-AET-Labyrinth at the time of activation was a Nexus Class anomaly containing a pocket dimension where every item and living organism was created or infused with Cardboard or other craft related materials.
Everything within SCP-AET-Labyrinth defied logic and reason as each room and second offered new anomalous properties, entities, and traps. These rooms and traps seemingly grew more elaborate as one travels deeper into the pocket dimension. The anomaly itself was even alive and grew bigger as it drank the blood and fed on the death of those who wandered inside. The structure was so elaborate that even SCP-AET-Creator himself got lost inside. The only way he was able to get himself and his friends out was to create a core of the pocket dimension. After creating it they destroyed it causing the SCP-AET-Labyrinth to fell apart and set them free.
That was originally thought to be the end of it for them but afterwards an anomalous humanoid with a human body, cardboard armor, and cardboard bull head started rampaging the streets. The Foundation was able to grab the anomaly but had to kill it and dissect it to understand its anomalous properties. Shockingly its human body had normal organs, but the head had cardboard cutouts to resemble bull eyes, skull, and brain.
Foundation agents immediately went to action to find the source of the anomalous humanoid. The search eventually led the Foundation back to SCP-AET-Creator which was discovered in 2017. After he was contained, it was found out that not only was he a reality bender but someone who was desperately trying to make something that mattered. SCP-AET-Labyrinth ended up being his best invention.
As such the Foundation instead quickly gave him the cover story of offering him a job at one of its Nexus points and that he could take his girlfriend and other friends with him. Now SCP-AET-Creator works in the city of Archios and regularly creatives pieces of art as well as amazing inventions made of cardboard. He's actually started a personal business where people can buy pets made out of cardboard from him. Though of course he is occasionally asked to make new containment tools and weapons for the Foundation. These items have been created with various degrees of success and failure. Still the Foundation sees value in SCP-AET-Creator so there is no reason to discard him as of late.

Sometimes I think we need to appreciate horror movies with little to no blood/gore or they go about it in a different way. Like one of my fav examples is Dave Made a Maze (2017), where the blood is replaced with red tinsel/confetti because everyone is trapped in a giant arts and crafts project. That's so fucking cool I love it.

2023 Horror Challenge: [20/?]
↳“I wasn't striving for anything. I just wanted to make something. And I can't sit on my couch and watch t.v. or think that the internet is going to inspire me because I'm fucking thirty years old. And my parents are still giving me money. And I bore the shit out of them. And I work jobs that I hate that I have to beg to get. Do you know what it means to be broke? It means that you are broken. That you don't work.“ Dave Made a Maze (2017) dir. Bill Watterson
Plot: Dave, an artist who has yet to complete anything significant in his career, builds a fort in his living room out of pure frustration, only to wind up trapped by the fantastical pitfalls, booby traps, and critters of his own creation.
Starring: Nick Thune, Meera Rohit Kumbhani & Adam Busch
Okay, finally a movie where I'm gonna stay positive in a review!! lol This watch was such a bizarre one, in the best kinda way. It was so fun and creative as a concept that I couldn't help but to admire the execution of it all. Horror comedies are my go-to so it's no surprise I was gonna be the target audience for it. It's pretty funny throughout imo, just as whacky as you might expect the humor to be for a movie with this kinda idea. I kinda love how it just jumps right in with his girlfriend discovering what Dave did and her really not getting that he's stuck in his maze, having no idea from the outside what's going on in it before exploring it to save him. Enter the rest of the cast who all add a little something as well, in particular Adam Busch, who had me laughing as Gordon. I rather like how they chose to handle the violence because it truly fit the vibe of the whole thing and felt very fresh. Because otherwise it could have been really gory and possibly been a little off-putting with the rest of the movie. But I dug this little strange flick, quite honestly. It committed to its concept, which I really appreciated. I was entertained. That's all I really hoped for when I clicked play because I truly had no idea what I was in beforehand. It's a hidden gem imo.

WATCH DAVE MADE A MAZE (2017)!!!! It’s a traumcom about a failed artist who makes a cardboard maze in his living room and his wife (girlfriend? Fiancé? I forgor lol) finds it and he tells her that he’s trapped and can’t get out despite it being pretty small. But she and some others go in and it’s like waaaayyyy bigger than it looks. It’s all cardboard practical effects and it looks GREAT!!! 💖💖 it’s not the best movie ever but I really enjoyed it
Oh I definitely remember hearing about that! I had no idea it was a horror movie though lol, just watched the trailer and it seems like a really fun watch! Also props to the team behind all the cardboard that shit is NOT an easy medium especially when it comes to tiny details

Worms (not) in film: Dave Made a Maze [2017]

WORM MENTIONED!
This movie is about, you guessed it, a guy who builds a cardboard maze within his house. However, this crafty creation evolves into an impossibly large, ever-expanding labyrinth of booby traps and hostile creatures, unfortunately none of which are worms.
0.5/10, honourary points for even mentioning our beloved creature.
