Tiny Review: Becket 1964. Royal friends to enemies.

This definitely peaked my interest about the real Thomas Becket, leading to the discovery of the origin of *Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?*

Becket is a 1964 British historical drama film directed by Peter Glenville. It is a dramatic film adaptation of the 1959 play Becket or the Honour of God by Jean Anouilh. The film stars Richard Burton as Thomas Becket and Peter O'Toole as King Henry II, with John Gielgud as King Louis VII, Donald Wolfit as Gilbert Foliot, Paolo Stoppa as Pope Alexander III, Martita Hunt as Empress Matilda, Pamela Brown as Queen Eleanor, Siân Phillips, Felix Aylmer, Gino Cervi, David Weston and Wilfrid Lawson.

Vincent Price als selbstredend ungerechter, sadistischer und zu allem Überfluss satanistischer Prinz Prospero versucht in Roger Cormans für Roger-Corman-Verhältnisse gar nicht mal so blödsinniger und für einen Gruselfilm ungewöhlich farbenfroher Edgar-Allen-Poe-Verfilmung The Masque of the Red Death den roten Tod, der draußen unter der Landbevölkerung wütet, aus dem Schloss, in dem allerlei Lustbar- und Grausamkeiten stattfinden, fernzuhalten. Erwartungsgemäß erfolglos. Später kommen dann auch noch der gelbe, orangene, grüne und blaue Tod vorbei.
