This issue presented the origin and first appearance of The Ray, one of Quality Comics' powerhouse superheroes.

The Ray first appears, albeit without pants. He would have those in the next issue, but then mysteriously be missing his distinct head fin. Art by Lou Fine, who signed his work on The Ray "E. Lectron."

The Ray would later become more well known as a member of the Freedom Fighters in Justice League of America (vol. 1) #107 (October, 1973), almost two decades after DC Comics had acquired all of Quality's characters when that company went out of business in 1956.

Jason: They keep commenting ATE. Like, dude? Fucking where? I am not eating in my cooking videos. What is the fucking point?

Tim, choking: Oh my fucking God-

Jason, making an angry text post for his followers: YOU ALL. STOP COMMENTING "RAW". MY MEAT IS NOT RAW. I AM A PROPER COOK. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU???

Cassandra: Maybe it is time to tell him...

Tim, Steph, Duke, in unison: NO

Bruce, awkwardly trying to have a conversation with Jason: Hey, lad, how is your cooking blog is going?

Jason: Uh, people keep commenting cryptid messages. Like, the last time I was showing the right way to tenderise meat for chops because apparently it wasn't clear and someone requested the whole video? Anyway, I did it, and the whole comment section was writing me "in bed, on the floor, on the couch, on a chair, against the wall, against the window, against the door"... Like, why would I do that, not in the kitchen?

Bruce, no less clueless: Maybe it some kind of challenge. Kids love trying new stuff in extreme places nowadays.

SMASH COMICS (vol. 1) #1 (August, 1939).

This issue marked the first appearance of Hugh Hazzard and his Iron Man, a robot he named Bozo.

The robot was actually created by an evil scientist, Dr. Von Thorp. The doc used the robot to commit all sorts of crime in a reign of terror over the city. Hazzard tracked down the doctor and brought him to justice, then took possession of the robot for his own purposes.

By the way, according to a newspaper headline in the story, experts believed Von Thorp was "insane due to great need of funds." By that reckoning, I must be pretty crazy myself!

Sadly, the cover scene of Bozo fighting a gorilla does not occur in the comic.
