“This place is complicated.” Gideon spoke softly. “There are people who are similar to the Aeldari that have lived on this planet since it’s inception. There are a type of orks but they aren’t like the ones we know… for the most part. This planet has a variety of peoples and—“

“I don’t want to know about the people, I want to know about the bugs.” Kaessian’s jaw clenched as he glared at Gideon.

“The silithid?” Meghaya frowned.

Kaessian’s eyes snapped over to her and Meghaya froze up at the blaze of hate in his eyes. It wasn’t the first time she had seen that look in someone’s eyes, it didn’t surprise her despite the intensity. She got the feeling that he expected her to back down, perhaps because she was so much smaller than him. She could feel the tension in the air as she continued to look up at him, and slowly she reached for him.

“You should be sitting so you can rest properly.” Meghaya rested her hands on his wrist and smiled faintly when he sat back down, even if he was scowling when he did it. She sat beside him, her fingers lightly curled around his wrist to keep track of his heart rate as the conversation continued. “Gideon, could you please continue?”

The red eyed man looked surprised and nodded stiffly, starting to pace in the small amount of room that he had. It reminded Meghaya of a panther waiting for the bars of an enclosure to vanish so it could leap on the nearest victim.

I found out a wild story at work about one of the artist's whose work we collect.

apparently the artist hired a ghost writer but before the artist agreed to work with him, the writer had to watch multiple seasons of House, MD. like, the artist refused to work with him unless the writer understood the intricate dynamics of those doctors at this fictional new jersey hospital. and he gave no reason as to why.

Midcareer Artist/Author Tip: Save a copy of any interviews or reviews about your work because who knows if the outlet where that was published will completely collapse

I'm really grateful I'm sorta shameless enough to archive copies of interviews and especially nice reviews of my comics because if I hadn't, this particular interview with the British Library would just be gone forever. I've put up a copy in the Alexander Comic website, so at least this piece of my webcomic's personal history is intact and accessible.

Late last year the British Library experienced a huge data breach / cybersecurity attack that completely evaporated the digital archives. Blog posts, the manuscript/illumination archives, web pages, exhibition catalogues, ... they are still down months later. It's wild to me that such a thing can happen to a PUBLIC infrastructure - a NATIONAL library and archive!!! Decades of information gone like that. Its been months and months of barely anything coming back online.

As an artist from outside the UK, I literally CANNOT access any of the European manuscripts of the Alexander Romance in their collection - meaning the British Library as a resource is impossible for Book Two. Which is wild cos the Library was like almost 50% of the bibliography and art references for Book One. As someone whose dayjob is to build, manage and audit workflow / data infrastructure this stuns me in disbelief at how lax the library was about backing up their website and digital infrastructure. They don't even have offline, offsite copies?? I'm talking about basic things here, not even the high level security and data engineering stuff. (all this being said with the knowledge that the British Library itself keeps getting their budget cut)

Anyway idk, this whole thing is a big lesson on archiving things online (and always backing up your stuff). Cos the Internet isn't forever apparently.

Do you have an update schedule for devotion or is it just a "will update whenever a chapter is done" fic? This is absolutely no pressure to update fast btw, I'm mostly just curious because I know some writers try to commit to a specific schedule, and it's fun to have a little something to look forward to on specific dates. But if there's no schedule, then it's also fun to get a surprise in the inbox on a random day 🥰

Unofficial schedule is every Wednesday-ish! The only reason I don’t say that on Ao3 is because I can’t guarantee it (my dayjob is pretty intense) & don’t wanna disappoint anyone.

Arcane has brainrotted me so I’ve been neglecting a lot of RL stuff to do it but I just adore Zaun family and talking to you guys!! I’ve never done art + fic updates side by side like this before lmao. If I can’t update the main fic weekly, it might be Main Fic + Side Fic. I just finished writing a baby Jayce POV scene and I am full of feelings for our little butterball. 😭

how do you find the time/motivation to draw so often!? it's great

ty! over the past few years ive made it a point to draw daily (doesnt have to be anything serious jut whatever, drawing 'badly' often leads into making something i like)

time wise i am lucky to have a parttime dayjob that i can draw at, & lately i tattoo frequently so still drawing. & i draw at home. its a lot & sometimes tiring (right now im tired tbh) but its important to make time for fun drawing (non tattoo or commission stuff for me) & i do other crafts when i get sick of drawing like clay or something non art related so i dont get burnt out lol

& motivation ummm i dont know! i suppose habit now & i just like to make something

After Mary...after Culverton, the Baker Street duo is barely making their ends meet. Of course, nothing will change. Sherlock will be fine because it's all fine. John will drink and crack a smile and it'll be fine too. The mantra repeats and repeats. Sherlock knows they can't last like this. And somehow, the universe seems to know this too.

no portfolio day post, but i thought it'd be a good idea to re-introduce myself since it's the new year!

* my oldest and fondest fandom is the fire emblem video game series; i fell in love with the tellius duology (fe9/10) and started posting online on deviantart way back in 2008 due to those games - but fates (fe14) is my current fixation due to one particular old knight & a juicy dead dove ship ~ currently working on a R18 doujinshi/comic-book to be printed hopefully this year. most upcoming art posts will be this. :>

* semi-retired fandoms include hellsing & republic commando (star wars: eu exclusively). i'm not really an OC person other than one original webcomic that was published from 2016-2020; it's archived here, you can also buy a collected version on itch.io along with a few other comics & zines.

* while i'm not exclusively a kink artist, i do like drawing any and all fetishes that's in-character or that amuses me for whatever reason. R18 posts will always have a click-in opt-in, but there can be untagged work or previews here that might not appeal.

* occasionally i'll mass delete text posts / old art that i no longer enjoy from social media; however all old art is still hosted permanently on my site archive that goes all the way back to 2008 (very easy to navigate). this was a compromise since my brain occasionally gets the "delete everything and dissapear" call of the wild. it's also available in a zip dump for you to download (it's on my to-do list to make a current dump).

* other site goodies include my zihark fanshrine since the character's very near and dear to me. my most shared page is probably my static CANCELLED RESOURCES page for kink artists that went semi-viral on twitter ages ago. should every social media platform go down, i'll always still be updating the blog. :>

* i'm a design manager at my dayjob; any other IRL stuff i don't really care to share here (because i'm an internet Old and pretty private on top of that), but i do have a dreamwidth diary that's a little more open for those who seek it out, and an inspo blog at @walonvaus that i revived in the past year. (still happy to answer questions regarding my art though!)

I have had two and a half particularly hellish weeks with so many tech hiccups, appointments, obligations, etc etc... Everyone who's waiting on a commission: thank you so much for your patience! I have been slowly chipping away at some! Also, I probably missed so much cool stuff on my dash lately, never hesitate to tag me in things (I also track #elvenbeard). I miss the blorbos, and I'm looking forward to my 3-week-leave from my dayjob now - not because I don't like my job, I do actually, but bc so much stuff has piled up here and there, I hope I can tackle most of it in a timely manner XD

Anyway, sorry for the inactivity and lack of interaction and updates as of late. What I can say is, that even while I dont get to hang out in Night City as much as I want to lately, the blorbos are all-time mental companions.

Damian Wayne (9-14):

Damian is a kid who was raised as an assassin and because of that when he first appears he has some really messed up ideas of how to prove himself to his father by being aggressive with the criminals they capture and attacking his brother. Because of this people act like he is the most evil character ever and refuse to give him any grace. They make him out to be this awful irredeemable monster who just wants to kill his brother and hurt people. If the fandom isn’t making his out to be The Worst(tm) then they are ignoring his existence all-together. He is a really interesting character who has done some not so great things but he’s grown and learned a lot through various character arcs (as much of an arc as a comic book character can have) and he deserves to be acknowledged for himself and not just as a villain so that people can woobify his brother.

Jason Todd (~12):

Most of the Tumblr fandom likes this guy but if you step outside this website then wham so many people say he got what he deserved as a kid and Batman can't be cool if he's a dad so it's important for Batman to trash-talk his dead child constantly so we can all agree what a bad idea it was. Also wanna highlight that a lot of the records we have from fans at the time were clear they disliked Robin for BEING a child. Like a lot of the little dude characters in this tournament are treated too harshly for making an ugly choice and the fans aren't being understanding or sympathetic that the choice is made by a child character who is immature and not developed and strong enough to make a good choice and stuff. But THIS little dude was specifically hated FOR being a child. People wanted tough loner guy Batman not Batdad and his little buddy. The first Robin would drive back from college and guest star sometimes and be advertised as the Teen Wonder and people were like yeah okay but then Batman actually starts being a single parent for a child with needs and people were like UGH not the BOY Wonder. Today pretty much everywhere you see Batman fans saying Batman is better solo, no kid, it's not realistic to have a kid, a kid shouldn't be in the movies blah. Even if the comics they always find a way to send away the new kid so that Batman never has to parent. So all the Robins are being excluded from the narrative but I think this one is THE symbol of Batman fans hating a child character just for being a child.

Robin, Jason Todd, THE hated child character. In the 1980s, Batman comics had become increasingly dark and gritty. According to editor O'Neil himself, the courted audience wasn't kids but 19-40 year old men with disposable income. Batman's child sidekick, Robin, was offensively campy and childish. Fans called him wimpy, annoying, dumb, bratty, etc. Also people complained that Batman acting like an affectionate dad was unmanly and gay. Robin acts violent and emotional and people are like "ew he's so childish and emotional"—and then Batman literally acts just as murderously and emotionally within literally the same exact story and people are like "wow he's so dark and tortured". So in 1988 (after brutalizing Batgirl to get rid of her for being too bright and nice and kid-friendly), DC held a paid poll for fans to vote for Robin to live or die. O'Neil claims he heard a fan (a grown man with a dayjob as a lawyer) programmed a phone to spam kill votes. One fanguy claimed that he sold his Mercedes to buy kill votes (probably an exaggeration but still). By less than 1% margin, the vote decided to kill Robin in a spectacularly violent way. Anyway the 1989 Batman movie brought in a huge wave of new child comicbook fans who liked the new Robin (a very cool teenage high school Robin with a driver's license and a girlfriend), and DC started a separate Robin-less Batman series called Legends of the Dark Knight to make the anti-Robin writers and fans happy. But to this day, many fans agree it was a good idea to kill off the other Robin so that his foolish death reminds other characters to never be childish and stupid again. Bonus: the current Robin (usually a traumatized 10-year-old) has also been facing some pretty loud hatred for over 15 years.

Greed is every sin

Just as openly elitist power abuser Stolas is the best villain of either series in this Helluverse, Mammon manages to be the greatest sin of all and for a similar reason, being multifaceted via many efforts made to sway our thinking, yet these two are then taken in different directions.

So much range does 'greed' have that he even encapsulates the 'sins' we have yet to meet.

Of those we have met, Ozzie, Bee and over in Pride, Lucifer, Mammon has managed to showcase actions of their sins in his own greedy way. Greed has a bit of everyone, but vise versa? Not if they're supposed to be liked.

A totally desexualised character but blamed for the sexdolls of a famous character whoes 'dayjob' is entertaining at a kinky nightclub, run by the prince of lust. Even though he markets the dolls as multipurpose, fit for everyone at a very affordable price, the sex element is his fault. The dolls were clearly a collaboration and something thought up before a reference was chosen, Ozzie catches feelings for their references and feels he should no longer able to separate business from his personal feelings, whilst Mammon manages to prosper in business in a field that isn't his.

Lust ✅

A glutton for the sake of being a glutton, no need for celebration just mindless or stress eating, which fits well as greed and gluttony often go together, taking because it's there.

There's also the deliberate fat design intended to make him more grotesque. 'Gluttony' does not need to be fat, yet the 'Gluttony' we met simply wanted the party goers indulged, however Ozzie wanted his patrons to keep it sexy and Mammon collected cash during the pageant, they did as much as eachother, only the efforts to make him piggish only took away from Bee's thing.

Gluttony ✅

Showy and performative but happy to take the backseat, is seen working and mentoring, adapts to what's new, what works and what others want but also bold enough to openly share selfish motive. As involved and inappropriate as his behaviour may seem he's all business, willing to work with those who don't like him and invest in what doesn't interest him without buckling or offsetting.

Mammon succeeds as a ruthless, confident, both proactive and passive leader who doesn't come across as someone who casually hangs with 'commoners' and whose true influence and power is unknown.

Pride ✅

Way too attentive to be lazy, but, what do people have to say about a boss who puts their feet up and fails to do what they're more than capable of doing, rather, they get others to do? Mammon supposedly 'not doing clown stuff anymore' and Fizz being 'a better clown than he ever was' as according to Ozzie are statements that means little, he wanted a prodigy, we saw imagery of training arc he showcases entertainers in order to fulfil his greed and his trade gets acknowledged. Ozzie has a seedy nightclub where those who work their or visit are expected to behave in a sexy way and Bee expects her guests to indulge, what's the difference? They meet their sin quota whilst not showing us any form of trade outside of being a host, why is Mammon condemned for as in a leading example of laziness? If we're scaling laziness, where does this leave poor, yet to be introduced Belphahor?

Relaxation pairs with recovery, research shows that the Sloth ring has the hospitals and is also responsible for 'upper' medication. Nice right? Something positive, which is where all those we are to like lean towards. That and Bee seems to be friends with her.

Sloth ✅

Spring boarding onto the next sin, Wrath, someone who has been described as attractive (by Bee) and is seen as a leader and god to the imps. It helps to be liked. This is hell where anything supposedly goes, murder is fine but not sadness, sadness isn't a sin but what else is everything, irate. Mammon was allowed to not only be big and menacing but pose a threat to someone who would be frightened of their fallout, allowed to resort to blackmail when he didn't like how things were going and allowed to vow revenge before taking off and trashing the place and maybe even killing his audience who bore witness on his way out, in a rather composed way.

Wrath ✅

Looloo land being a ripoff of Lulu land is so clearly a display of greed, especially since Looloo land is poorly maintained dispite Mammon being a perfectionist, this ripoff could easily be an example of envy, a grasp at control born from following a definitive leader who seems no leader at all, but can do what he wants because this is his realm.

Wlillingness to rip off such a superior, block effort at takedown with an impenetrable contract and still maintain (according to research) a good relationship with shows caution, calculation and willingness to fight.

Mammon even has his face on hell's currency and a banking app, yet who exactly is he supposed to be paying tax to? Lucifer, hells actual owner who doesn't seem to be a leader? Or are they answering to those 'higher up' which places Mammon in the frustrating position of second fiddle to a boss who isn't the best?

We haven't met Envy/Leviathan yet, but we have a host of main characters who live contemptuous lives and look to what others have that they don't, so envy, like wrath affects everyone, have been prominent driving forces since the start along with sadness and tragedy which aren't sins.

Envy ✅

Mammon manages to encompasses all elements of sinning even when he shouldn't really because it's by proxy as someone whose actions are portrayed as self serving and cruel with no excuses or failure to acknowledge, someone who upsets and can be harmful to those we are supposed to root for, something these series shy away from when they want us to like a character. We have a demon who succeeds in being someone you have no business getting mixed up with, in hell, a place you shouldn't want to be, where he is a crowned leader who is after your money if you're lucky.

Greed ✅
