For Eldwin, it's definitely his cat, Aconite. He's very lonely, and dreadfully bored as he spends a lot of time confined to his room. He was given a cat on the doctors recommendation that it would do him good, and it has. He adores her, and spoils her as much as he can <3 She, in turn, is frankly his only pleasant company, and she does help him ground himself in reality, giving him something to think about. It does him good to have someone else to be responsible for.

Ancassius has a gold amulet he was given by his mentor. It's embedded with a heart of the sea, a rare and valuable deep-water gemstone that is said to bring luck to sailors. The amulet is also enchanted with protection wards. He wears it all the time and swears by its charm.

Moon: Does your character have a dark side? What makes their dark side come out?

Totsuka - moresk! She is kind of a goof and a silly girl but she can also be pretty dangerous and a little deranged. It starts coming off more often after her Corruption Arc (TM), but especially when people threaten her or her friends

Rose - not exactly a dark side just a more...manipulative and calculistic way of doing things that comes REALLY easily to her but she actively tries to avoid it. Gotta be the perfect princess, after all.

Hey, Felix! Happy FNDM Friday! How did you start watching RWBY in the first place? What made you want to keep watching?

Honestly I started watching RWBY because videos about it kept showing up on my YouTube recommendeds and kinda just flooded everything?? So I got annoyed and started the first season to see what all the fuss was about and I was pretty much immediately hooked and very invested

The funny thing abt RWBY is that it ticks just about every single box in my head when it comes to interests. A lot about it feels almost catered to me loll. I kept watching it because of that- it has a rich world, interesting world building and lore (with enough space to allow the FNDM to build off of it), super cool characters, and overall just a really fun plotline.

A lot about RWBY just... matches what I love in a series lmao. It has everything I love, basically, which is really funny considering in middle school, I tried making my own unique world, and the ideas I had were REALLY similar to RWBYs lore. Which I think says a lot about my interests, what I like, and how I think at least somewhat similarly to the writers lol.

And generally I stick around cause I have way too much fun theorizing, analyzing, and making my own world building headcanons. I have far too many of those 😅

I'm shaking this series in a pringles can atp. I love it a lot

Firework: What is your character's biggest goal? How can they accomplish it?

I’m still working on this story, so this might be a little patchy. But we play these games to get better, right?

If you asked my MMC at the beginning of the book, his answer would be survive. He starts off in a fake relationship with his best friend, both trying to hide their queerness from their families for a multitude of reasons, while his real relationship is toxic and abusive and inconsistent.

As the story moves forward and his relationships fall apart part (and maybe a real relationship/partner helps pull him back together), his true goal is honesty. Being honest about what he truly wants to do with his life, rather than following the carefully curated path created by his father. Being honest about how he wants to be loved and by whom. And maybe unlearning the codependency that was accidentally created by his fake relationship with his best friend.

He might be feeling lost and untethered, but at least there’s honesty in that. And hope for a better future.

At first glance? Nothing. Erik is outwardly perhaps the most shameless person you'll ever meet. And he mostly is! Just don't touch on their past too much. He's real sensitive about the shit he's had to do in the past and trying to convince him it wasn't his fault is a one way ticket to killing the vibe.

Moon: Does your character have a dark side? What makes their dark side come out?

First of all, thank you so much for doing this! It's such a fun way to explore characters and our own writing :)

I would say that the main character in my fanfic does have one. Since we are mostly seeing the world through her eyes, it makes easier for her actions to be justified and for her to feel like she always have the moral high ground. I've never been a fan of too perfect characters so I wanted her to have some nastier side.

She was a troublesome relationship with a former friend of hers. They had a great fallout in their forties and then they spent the rest of their lives fighting. But neither of them is able to cut the other off. Because they may hate each other, but they cannot imagine a bigger tragedy than to not have the other around. It is a complicated and contradicting relationship that brings out the absolute worse in both of them. I would say most that knew either of them would not quite recognize them when they're together. It is a kind of viciousness bred of a sense of deep betrayal. When with him, she is cruel, willing to do anything to hurt him in the same way she felt hurt.

And she knows that he brings this side out of her, even if she wants to deny. Even if she wishes nothing more than to be better than him. She knows she is not the same person that others know when she is with him. At times she fears that he may be the one who understands her, who can understand this monstrosity of hers.

Probably my favorite part is just writing the scene, knowing that if it does not feel right first time around, I can re-work it. You also have these ideas and you want to jot or type them down on the page. Whether planned or not, it is also having fun experimenting within your story. It is a wild ride, after all.

This song was actually a friend's theme for their own fanfic (which I highly recommend, btw, if anyone's into character-driven stories featuring Pok��mon trainer OCs) but I do find that its themes of nostalgia and wanting to reconnect with a friend you've lost over the years are absolutely on-brand for my own stories, which tend to be very heavy on relationships between childhood friends and/or family and how they're affected by growing up.

Karissa! My girl! My jester inspired girl whose last name is literally Jester!

Karissa is usually very sweet and kind and a lovely bard who loves to sing and make people happy.

But when her own parents go and try to hurt Josiah and Lilith (basically the only family she had before The Crux)

Well

She gets pretty angry

She ends up burning down the camp that her parents and their group are staying in.

However everyone makes it out okay and is fine. But it does lead to Karissa’s parents begging for mercy.

She grants them mercy under the pretenses that they stop murdering Asterope’s followers, clerics, and paladins.

Her fire is white and red btw :)

Starts out red in the center but fades to white.

Her tiefling/demonic side definitely shows here

Tree: What is something that helps your OC grow?

Ooh, thank you! This is a good question. Eldwin has a LOT of growth to do... 😅

What he needs is... Understanding and patience. A lot of it. In order to truly grow he needs to find some good people who care for him and will be patient with him, but who also won't take any shit from him. He needs someone to be nice and understanding yes, but he also needs a firm hand otherwise he'll stay firmly stuck in his unhealthy ways, and treat others like shit just to take his frustrations out on someone. One of his flaws is that he's just... accepted his life, accepted that it's all his fault and there's no way out.

He also needs to realise the weight of his actions again. He struggled with his work at first, but it's been long enough that he doesn't care anymore, even learned to enjoy it. He needs a moment where he's forced to really confront the harm he causes, make him grapple with the effect his actions have on people. I'm talking not only about his work for what is basically a mafia, but also just the way he talks to people he's supposed to care about. He needs to fuck up, people will let him know he fucked up, but will give him a chance to make it up.

Without both of these, he will not grow. It is vital for him to understand both that there is good in the world, and that he is not irredeemable.

This kind of depends if I'm doing fanfiction or original writing! For original writing hands down my favourite part is character creation, getting to go inside of the characters' heads and figure out exactly what makes them the way they are. I also do this to some degree with fanfiction but a little bit less. My other favourite part is writing dialogue! Especially if this comes in the form of banter.

Probably something I saw on tumblr once about if you get stuck and can't figure out how to keep going, go back [insert number] lines and start from there. I'm quite good at writing myself into corners 😅 aside from that is also remembering to write for yourself. Writing is meant to be a fun hobby! Due to the nature of my brain it's a struggle for me to walk the line and not turn it into an obligation, so I find it quite important to keep in mind

Hello there! Just stopping by with a writing question for you. What do you think has improved the most in your writing since you started?

at first I was going to say 'my ability to develop relationships,' but then I really thought about it and realized that I'm mostly good at that when I'm writing collaboratively. on my own, I'm still kinda prone to just going 'and then XYZ happened and they got to where I want them to be.' roleplaying or throwing ideas back and forth with my friends? some of the most realistic, well-developed relationships between characters. just writing on my own? still usually tempted to just hit fast forward and then back fill later.

I do, however, write some absolutely banger dialogue. characters have verbal ticks. they have favorite words. they have their own cadences. much better from my early 'everyone stops in a field to basically soliloquize at each other for 15 fucking minutes regardless of how much or little that makes sense' days.

Hello, there! Just stopping by to hear a little about your WIP! What, in your opinion, makes your WIP unique? What makes your WIP stand out?

Hello hello, thank you for the ask!

Honestly, I do swing quite wildly between 'yeah this is unique and will stand out' and 'oh god what if i'm just copying everyone else and i've never had an original thought in my life.'

You know. Writers.

Oathsworn is a mish-mash of genres: the main one is urban fantasy, but I'm working apocalypse/post-apocalypse into it as well. It's an alternate reality where the Fae are real, but are more Eldritch in nature, so there's horror elements too. And the cast is majoritively queer, with a lot of leading ladies.

I think my take on the Fae (and other miscellaneous creatures) is the biggest stand-out part of the WIP, because I'm constantly trying to work out how to make them *more* terrifying and incomprehensible, while still being recognisable from folklore (for example, I have a chapter with a Kelpie working alongside a Rusalka to hunt).

People seem to like it, so I guess I'm doing something right!

Hello! Just stopping by with a question about writing XD Do you have any characters who's role grew bigger than you expected? Any surprising changes your characters went through during the writing process?

HEWWO!!!!!

Gosh, that's been happening to me for so long I forget half of the instances. I can say that the love interest for the fantasy project I am not currently working on was originally a fanfic OC who was supposed to die in the first fic I ever wrote him into XD

I've definitely had some of that with the Truth Saga though. Book 2, Bitter Truth, is proving to be full of surprises and character roles are included.

Initially in writing the novel, I intended for the focus to be entirely on Erik and Blade with only brief roles from other characters. It's definitely stayed that way to an extent but with Erik being one of the main characters it actually led to a lot more Lydia than I expected, and Violet is taking a more active step forward recently to the point where I now have to fight her getting her own story before Evie does (whom I've planned for book 3's main character).

Tori has surprised me a lil as well, which I didn't think she was capable of any more but here we are XD While she's already well built and pretty stable in her character, her ongoing condition related to her powers has expanded to a full blown chronic pain/mobility issue which tbh, I should have seen coming given that she's always been my subconscious way of coping with things that make me feel helpless IRL
