anywayyys i was thinking this would be like some sort of old timey au or... something. maybe they're just dressed weird idk but erik is some kind of business/lawyer or architect dude that's been hired to help charles out with setting up the school.

and so it goes: charles is slutty, cassandra knows this, charles is flirting with erik, cassandra thinks erik is an ass, and voila.

Also raven is like little and adorable and cassandra and charles take turns braiding her hair. Charles reads to her. Cassandra teaches her how to punch stuff.

It’s almost impossible not to linger on the things that you have lost.

And for Logan, it is impossible.

He spends every waking moment craving for the touch of somebody he lost, and he’s painfully aware that it’s all his fault. He caused the loss. And he’s the only one left to mourn you, because god knows the humans won’t.

Even for him, some two hundred years old, it’s all too painful. And he has experienced plenty of pain in his life. But this? Losing you? Losing everyone? It’s too much. So, he does what he can, he pours so much alcohol into his body that he can’t think, can’t imagine what your final moments must have been like.

But between bars, when his healing factor wears the alcohol down, it’s all he sees.

He imagines you there, surrounded by all of your loved ones except for him, unable to save them. And he can remember finding you so vividly, can remember the ashy tone your skin had taken on, all the life drained from you. He can remember exactly where he found you, in front of the doors, your dying action being to try and save the kids in the mansion. He prays to a god that he doesn’t believe in that you died before they did, because knowing that you hadn’t been able to save them would have killed you.

And the other X-Men, they died the same way. Trying to protect each other, trying to protect those kids. And perhaps the only one who knew that it was all in vain would’ve been Jean. Jean, who he found in front of the children.

Where was he?

At some bar, surrounded by humans he couldn’t care less about, all because he was selfish. All because he didn’t want anybody thinking he wanted to be part of the team. God forbid he actually care about something.

And because of his selfishness, his fear, he lost it all.

He lost you.

So when Wade said he could fix Logan’s universe, he would’ve done anything to make that happen. Anything that Wade asked for, he would’ve done. And as soon as his universe was fixed, Logan would go to you and get to his knees, he would beg for your forgiveness.

And all of that, that hope that had evaded him all those years, was for nothing. For an educated wish.

Logan couldn’t do anything but resort to his old habits, grabbing the first bottle of actual alcohol he saw, and finally numbing the image of you dead in his arms.

“There’s five of us.” Elektra told Wade, and Logan paid her no mind. Everything was futile now, pointless. He was only helping Wade to help the team, to help you, and that was likely impossible. So whatever these so-called heroes were planning, he wanted no part in it.

Logan had already secured his legacy in his universe, and it wasn’t the one you had always imagined for him. He was the Wolverine, and he was every bit of violence that name suggested. Because even though he hadn’t been able to save the X-Men, he sure as hell got his vengeance. He hadn’t slept, hadn’t eaten, until every single human who was remotely involved in the blood bath at X-Mansion was dead.

You wouldn’t have been proud of his actions, true, but you were dead.

Cassandra had mentioned something about temperance, earlier, and it hadn’t taken him long to recognise that you were the anchor of his. Without you, Logan hadn’t managed any sort of self-restraint. He had slaughtered people. And he could only bring himself to regret those that hadn’t quite deserved it.

By the time the red had faded from his vision, Logan realised he had gone too far. He hadn’t just killed the ones who had murdered his friends, but anyone in connection to them, and anyone who had gotten in his way. The only reason he wasn’t arrested was because they were too afraid of him, and the only reason he hadn’t been killed was because he couldn’t fucking die.

Even the fuckers that had slaughtered the X-Men couldn’t figure out how to kill him, and that was a sick kind of irony.

“Logan, that’s who I was telling you about! X-23!” Wade said excitedly, pointing across the room at a teenage girl, who stared at him like she was seeing a ghost. From the sound of what Wade had said earlier, she probably was.

And the sight of her, for some reason, tugged at his chest. He drowned the feeling with more whiskey.

“Hey.” Laura greeted you, fidgeting with the strap of her bag as she watched you enter the back of the base, carrying a bag full of food. She seemed nervous, and you couldn’t figure out why.

“Hey, Laura, everythin’ alright?” You asked fondly, glancing at her as you started unpacking the supplies that you’d found scattered across the void.

She hesitated, glancing back through the doorway she was stood in, before focusing on you. “Yeah. Uh, I need to talk to you.” She said, sounding incredibly serious, which wasn’t unusual for her. Laura had been through so much, including everything that she had told you about her life before the void. Being here hadn’t made her life any better.

You immediately paused your actions, and turned your full attention towards the teenager across from you. You nodded for her to start.

“I was out patrolling earlier, and I found some people.” Laura said slowly, thinking her words over thoroughly before she spoke them aloud. She didn’t want to make this any worse. “I drove them here, and we’ve made a plan to attack Cassandra’s first thing. Except for one of the two, who doesn’t want to help.”

“Okay…” You said cautiously, almost confused. “This all sounds good, doesn’t it? Whoever they are, they can stay here if they want. Fill me in on the plan, and we’ll handle it.”

“It’s… okay. It’s about who they are.” She clarified finally, giving up on trying to approach the situation cautiously. “It’s a variant of him. Of Logan.”

Your chest squeezed painfully immediately, and you hand to hold a hand to your sternum to try and ease it. If it were any other situation, Laura may have made a joke about you having a heart attack, but she knew better. She knew how she had felt when she first saw the man, so she could imagine how you were feeling.

Immediately, your heart was torn between rushing to see him, and refusing to lay your eyes on the man at all. You weren’t sure you could handle seeing him, or, well, a variant of him.

It hurt too much. Every day you were reminded of how you had failed to save him, but you had to keep going, for the others in the void. Because they needed you, just as much as you needed them. Laura needed you.

She knew your pain all too well, having lost her own Logan. So you knew what she was telling you was the truth. There was really, finally, a Wolverine variant in the void.

“You okay?” Laura asked, after you had been silent for more moments than she was comfortable with. She was looking at you with such concern, and you could tell that her own heart was practically bursting in her chest from the sight of him.

“Are you?” You asked in return, eyebrows raised as you finally started to get a grip on yourself, shaking yourself from the pit of loss you had begun to get stuck in. She nodded, and you nodded yourself before pausing to think. “And this… Logan, he doesn’t want to join to Cassandra’s?”

Laura shook her head, looking down momentarily. “No. He’s… he’s as messed up as my Logan was.”

You approached her, drawing her into a silent hug. She squeezed you tightly, and the strength her mutation — Logan’s mutation — had given her wasn’t lost on you.

“Do you want me to talk to him?” You asked her quietly, and felt her nod against your shoulder. “Alright. Where is he?” You questioned, silently steeling yourself to face a copy of the man you had lost. The man you had loved.

She pointed you in the right direction, letting you go with a simple, “Good luck.” The entire walk outside, you were holding your breath, trying to prepare yourself somehow. As if this was something you would ever be able to prepare for.

And the moment you saw him, you knew it was all in vain. Because nothing could’ve prepared you for seeing him again, after all this time.

For a moment, it felt as though time was stood still, suspended.

Until he opened his mouth. “‘M not lookin’ for company.”

It was him. His familiar voice. The voice that you would’ve recognised anywhere, even after so long not having heard it. He sounded just the same as your own Logan, the same gruff tone to his voice, all grumpy expressions and furrowed brows. You could imagine it all as though your Logan was still alive, as though he was actually here. It took more than a moment for you to recall that this wasn’t your Logan.

You shuffled over to the log he sat on, the sun setting over the trees surrounding the two of you. He lifted the bottle of whiskey to his lips, glancing at you as you sat. His entire body went shock still, and he turned to look at you fully.

You smiled, and prayed he said nothing about the way your eyes became watery. “Hi, Logan.”

He said your name, sounding as though he was a mere man sat before a god, reverent. The bottle slipped from his hand as he spoke it aloud, his eyes watering immediately, his lip trembling as he looked at you like he was seeing you for the very first time.

“Are you… her?” He asked hesitantly, hand hovering halfway towards you, and you hated to be the bearer of bad news. But if you had to be conscious that he wasn’t yours, it was only fair for him to know the truth.

Reluctantly, you shook your head. “I’m sorry. I’m not your version of me, and you’re not my version of you.”

His hand fell to his lap, but he didn’t take his eyes off of you for a moment. He seemed reluctant to believe you, and you couldn’t blame him. He looked just like your version of him, grey streaks and all. But it wasn’t him, you knew, because he wasn’t coughing up blood, wasn’t actively dying in your arms.

You cleared your throat, glancing to the fire before him, watching the way the smoke curled into the slowly darkening sky. “My Logan died. I—I couldn’t save you. I’ve been here, in the void, for a year, I think.” You elaborated slightly, not wanting to overwhelm him with information. “I’d like to go home. Mourn my losses.”

He stared at you, saying nothing, fingers still outstretched where his hand lay.

“Laura said you weren’t coming with in the morning. I was hoping you might change your mind. We need your help.” You continued, trying to remain convincing despite the shake in your voice.

But that seemed to do the opposite of what you wanted, and he blinked out of the trance he had been in. He started shaking his head immediately, fingers clenching into a fist. “You got the wrong guy. I’m not… I’m not who you think I am.”

“Maybe not, but, Laura told me you were always the wrong guy, up until you weren’t. And to her, that means something. To me, too.” You said, hoping he wouldn’t pull away further than he already had. As selfish as it was, you didn’t want to lose another Logan. You wanted to see him and his friend succeed, even if you didn’t. Maybe, this time, this Logan, you could save him.

“You don’t get it.” Logan refuted, shaking his head, glancing towards the fire as the sun finally finished descending the horizon. He seemed to get lost in the blaze, and you watched his eyes become unfocused, showing him images that weren’t really there. “I failed them. My team. You.”

You stayed quiet, wondering if he was going to elaborate, or if he was too caught up in his vision.

“D’you know something’?” He asked, blinking until the fire came back into focus. “You used to beg me to wear this suit. So did Storm, Scott, Beast. All of you. And I refused, because god forbid anybody believe I wanted to be there.”

“What happened?” You asked him, wanting to reach for his hand, but knowing it wouldn’t help him get through this.

“I went out. And the humans went mutant hunting. By the time I stumbled home shit-faced from the bar… you—you were all dead. Every single mutant in that house.” He explained, his voice shaking, his lower lip trembling once again. You were almost certain he was seeing those images again, because he squeezed his eyes shut, gritting his teeth.

A surge of sympathy shot through you. You wanted so badly to comfort him, to tell him it wasn’t his fault, but you knew he wouldn’t believe it.

“So now I wear this goddamn suit as a reminder. To remember all of you. To make sure I never forget what I did.”

You released a deep sigh, the story sounding familiar to you, in some ways. He glanced over at you, seeing somebody else for a moment. After another few seconds, you reached into your shirt and pulled out the dog tags you had been carrying with you. You turned them over in your hand, running your thumb over the inscription.

He glanced wearily at them, and you reached out, grasping his fist in your own hand and pulling it loose until you could fit the dog tags in his hand, which you then squeezed shut. “I carry these with me, for the same reason. To remind myself that I failed you. That I can’t take that back. That I have to do better, even if all I want to do is give up. You aren’t the only one who did something wrong, here. If I could fix my mistakes, I would, but I can’t. So I carry on. For Laura. For anyone who needs it. And it seems like this… Wade needs it. From you.”

His hand was splayed open, turning over the dog tags in his palm as he listened intently to you.

“Be the hero you weren’t the first time around.” You told him finally, reaching out and placing your palm in his, squeezing around the dog tags, before letting go.

You went to stand, and he stood after you, reaching out.

“I—I know you aren’t her. I know that. But can I pretend, for a minute, that you are?” He asked you, and the vulnerability of the request wasn’t lost on you. Your Logan rarely ever asked for anything, even if he desperately needed it, so you could only imagine the courage that this Logan had mustered to ask you that.

You nodded, silent.

There was a pause, and he looked into your eyes, searching for something that you didn’t know you possessed. But he seemed to find it.

“‘M sorry. I’m so, so sorry.” Logan told you at last, the apology seeming to burst from the depths of his chest. “I love you. I have loved you the whole time. I should have told you as soon as I felt it.” He confessed, and you saw the dog tags hanging from his fingers as he reached for you. And you couldn’t help yourself — you reached right back.

Your hands landed on either side of his face, so full of care, and you watched the tear run down his cheek. His own hands gripped you tightly, scared to let you go.

“I’m sorry.” He repeated, voice broken.

“It wasn’t your fault.” You told him firmly, before rushing forward, pulling him into a hug so tight you could’ve heard his metal bones creak. He buried his face in your hair, breathing you in, and held you tight. “I don’t blame you. I love you.” You said, breathing the words into his ear as though that would make him believe it. He gripped you tighter, squeezing you against him. “I love you.”

You cradled the back of his head with one hand, pressing him close, because you were just as scared to let him go. Distantly, you heard Laura call your name.

After a moment, you pulled back slightly, only to press your forehead against his for a minute. You could pretend that he was your Logan, selfishly, just for a moment more.

Laura got closer, calling out your name once more, and you pulled back to look in his eyes. “I love you.” He told you one last time, before he allowed you to pull yourself from his grasp.

You had no idea whether he would be joining your group tomorrow, but you walked away from him with an empty chest, wiping away the tears that had dared to fall during the encounter. You would leave the last of the motivational speech to Laura, who you smiled gently at as you passed her in the woods, nodding towards where Logan still stood.

Logan had gotten what he needed from you. And you, from him.

(slight update in his design!) I've wanted to make a child of Casey and April for a long time, but I had no idea of ​​its design or gender until now.

Extra facts about him:

The "C" in his name is "Casey," which is his middle name.

He's a big fan of extreme sports (all of them). He also likes watching them on television, especially motocross, and he wants to try them all, but due to his lack of experience, he can only do parkour, base jumping, skating, or cycling for now.

Still, when he has the chance, he goes rafting, rappelling, or surfing when he travels.

Because of all the tricks and practices he does, he always ends up hurting himself, but he recovers very quickly (the tooth he lost was during one of his stunts).

He used to play regular sports, but because he's so intense, he often hurts others or ruins games. And because of this, he ends up being cut from teams or not even included.

He's Lita's best friend, they met when they were 4 years old, however they didn't have much of a connection at that age, since the Jones had to temporarily move for 10 years to another state for Abril's job (who is a reporter), after returning to New York, Jonathan and Lita reconnected and this time they became inseparable.

Both are a dynamic duo, calling themselves "the Ebony and Ivory team."

It's a relationship of mutual admiration: Lita admires Jon for his acrobatics and his passion for extreme sports and the joy they bring him, while Jon admires Lita for her passion for body art and loves watching her perform her elegant acrobatics. Let's say that Lita sees extreme sports as an aggressive art, while Jon sees body art as a very refined extreme game.

They both share a love of adrenaline; each experiences it in their own way. They even love street dancing and sometimes choreograph for fun.

Despite having different musical tastes, they've learned to appreciate each other in their own way. They both enjoy the combination of classical music and rock.

Unlike Lita, Jon loves pizza and Lou Jitsu movies. In fact, although he doesn't believe Leonardo's father was a Lou Jitsu fan, he'd love to meet him. He loves his movies and is almost a fanboy (almost).

They are very close, but let's just say they still don't understand their "true feelings."

His relationship with Leonardo and his brothers is basically the same as April's with Splinter; they get along very well.

He spends a lot of time with his dad in his free time, since April's job is somewhat demanding and she's almost always traveling. This worries her a lot, since her son is drifting away and the same thing will happen to him that happened to her with her parents.

His most common nicknames are: Jon, Jonny, JJ, and Ebony (only Lita can call him that, and only he can call her "Ivory").

His favorite piece of classical music is "Canon in D." He loves to hear that song when he needs to concentrate.

He knows Cassandra, but only met her a couple of times when he was a very young child. He doesn't consider her a grandmother, but rather a "cool aunt." He hasn't seen her again, as she is traveling around the world.

Neither he nor his parents know it yet, but his genes are slowly mutating, due to April and Casey's exposure to the Turtles' and other mutants' mutagen in their youth. This effect is passed on to Jonathan and is the cause of his superior strength and resistance to pain. Draxum is the only one who suspects this and theorizes that this will cause him to metamorphose in the near future and become a hybrid mutant. (This headcanon is based on Casey and April's daughter in the comic "The Last Ronin")

Es el mejor amigo de Lita, se conocieron a los 4 años, sin embargo no tuvieron mucha conexion a esa edad, ya que los Jones tuvieron que mudarse temporalmente por 10 años a otro estado por el trabajo de Abril (quien es reportera), después de volver a nueva york, Jonathan y lita volvieron a reconectar y esta vez se volvieron inseparables.

Ambos son el duo dinamico, y se hacen llamar "el equipo Ebano y Marfil".

Es una relacion de admiracion mutua, Lita admira a jon por sus acrobacias y su pasion por los juegos extremos y la alegría que le producen estos, mientras que jon admira a lita por su pasion por el arte corporal y le encanta verla haciendo sus acrobacias elegantes. Digamos que Lita ve los juegos extremos como un arte agresivo, mientras que jon ve el arte corporal como un juego extremo muy refinado

Ambos comparten su gusto por la adrenalina, cada uno la vive a su modo e incluso a ambos les encanta el baile callejero, y suelen hacer coreografias por diversion a veces.

A pesar de ambos tener gustos musicales diferentes, aprednieron a apreciarlos a su manera. A ambos les gusta la convinacion de la musica clasica y el rock.

A diferencia de Lita, Jon ama la pizza y le encantan las peliculas de lou jitsu. De echo, aunque el tanpoco le cree a leonardo que su padre era lou jitsu, le hace ilusion si pudiera conocerlo. Adora sus peliculas y es casi un fanboy (casi)

Son muy unidos, pero digamos que aun no comprenden sus "verdaderos sentimientos"

Su relación con leonardo y con sus hermanos es basicamente la misma que tenía abril con splinter, se llevan muy bien.

Pasa mucho tiempo con su papa en sus tiempos libres, ya que el trabajo de abril es algo demandante y casi siempre esta de viaje. Esto le precoupa mucho a ella, ya que su hijo se esta alejando y le pasará lo mismo que a ella le paso con sus padres

Sus apodos más comunes son: Jon, Jonny, JJ, y ebano (solo Lita puede llamarlo así, y solo el puede llamarla "marfil")

Ni el ni sus padres lo saben aun, pero sus genes estan siendo mutados poco a poco, esto debido a la exposicion de Abril y Casey en su juventud al mutageno de las tortugas y otros mutantes. Este efecto se pasó a Jonathan y esta es la causa de su fuerza superior y resistencia al dolor, Draxum es el unico que sospecha sobre esto, y teoriza que esto le provoque una metamorfosis en el futuro cercano y se vuelva un mutante hibrido. (Este headcanon esta basado en la hija de Casey y Abril en el comic "The last ronin")

The Break Down of Cassandra Jones Junior and Figuring Out His Age

Well, everyone. Welcome back to another deep dive into the characters of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This is not one I thought I was going to make — in fact, the only reason why I'm doing this one is because it's so present in my sleep-deprived mind at the moment — but this is one I now find interesting due to an image that was brought to my attention. Namely, this one.

And I have words. God, do I have words for the hell this boy goes through in what is essentially twelve hours.

Before that, though. I would like to give a shoutout to heybuwan on Youtube for the Character Analysis they did about a year ago. It gives an excellent start to the one I'm about to drop. To those who want to watch the video, please do. It is excellent and explains a lot as to what's happening with Casey Jones Jr.

Now! Unto deconstructing his personality until there is nothing left of him. Leggo!

The first thing I would like to start with is his age. And yes I know the main creator said this:

But I would like to narrow it down. In fact, according to what we know, I'm pretty sure we can establish that Casey is on the younger range of that spectrum. How? I know this will sound like a strange argument, but this is where he was raised.

Now, has anyone been keeping up with the recent events in Gaza? The fact that houses have been razed and there are only children left? And that some of them are so young or so traumatized, they can't remember their names so they will be raised never knowing where they came from? The same thing applies here.

Casey Junior is a child that is growing way too fast thanks to outside trauma. And not to mention that, out of all the turtles he could have bonded with, it was Leo who won that lottery. Yes, it provides him excellent protection since Leonardo Hamato is the leader of the resistance, but it also provides him a front-row seat to see how everything is fairing, and by the time he's twenty, Casey Jr, considering his behavior and empathy, would have likely started to not only internalize the lessons Leo was showing him, but emulating them since he would have likely been selected as their next leader should Leo die.

And stop me if you put this one together, but I think Leo is very much aware of his mortality at the beginning of the movie. Hell, had the first scene of the movie not been everything falling apart, I'm sure there would have been discussions over it because guess what, the deleted scene talks about whether or not Casey is ready to go into the past and he's not. Why? Because Casey is still a child. A teenager and I don't have to go to the deleted scene to prove it. I just have to go through the first few minutes of the movie.

He's "learned from the best". And the only one to vocalize anything as Master Michelangelo proceeds to destroy himself to send him back in time. And while both of them are devastated.

Casey is the only one to outwardly react. Leo knows it's necessary. Casey can't accept a reality in which his two last mentors are so vulnerable, they both die for him.

So where does that put Casey Jr. on the age spectrum? Maybe eighteen at most. He's been well protected, but far from isolated from the devastation of war. He's at the cusp of understanding the important things his Sensei left him with, but with how everything happens, he gets stuck in a very, very dangerous place.

Because this boy has just been given his first big mission all while being the last remnant of a team that will never exist (again, if you haven't, go watch the video. It explains this in better detail!).

And so, he hits the first stage. Denial. He approaches April without ever taking his mask off and shows the enthusiasm of a child when meeting the turtles we know. He goes hard on it, too, acting like the mission is the only important thing.

Because the turtles can take of themselves, right? Right?

Wrong. And oh god is Casey proven wrong here. Leo, his Sensei, is in shambles, and while it doesn't completely register, it starts happening. These are not the same turtles he knew. They're younger, weaker, and, most of all, a lot more emotionally vulnerable.

So he tries for acceptance. It's only been eight to ten hours at this point, but he has to move on. A good display of maturity, all while showing the weaknesses of his younger age, because in the fight and the scene that follow it...

He dives right back into denial but from a different angle. Casey compares Leo to his older self, the one the former knows but hasn't quite grasped that, hey, there's a reason Master Leonardo was that way. It's not there yet, and it isn't in a fashion that tells us that it's something Casey has not explored yet, which, by the age of 20, he should have already started by then.

By the end of this scene, though, he's starting to get it. He's starting to understand because when Leo makes his ultimate move.

He still calls Leo Sensei. He's still very, very much treating Leo with absolute respect, certainly after Leonardo has finally, finally stepped into his own. But he does two things that he would have never, ever been able to do at the beginning of the movie. He says he can't lose Leo again, meaning it's still the struggle it was. However, he also pulls the plug as asked. He's not quite done processing what the hell happened to him (And who the hell can blame him, it's been twelve hours.) but he's shifting towards the position both his masters were in at the beginning of the movie.

So, no Mr. Corcillo, this boy is not twenty. He's in eighteen at most. And you can pry that away from my cold, dead hands. Besides...

You can't tell me this would be the face or the reaction of a twenty-year-old, even if he's eating pizza for the first time. 🤣

From The Ashes: X-Men #5 Review

Spoilers, obviously.

A Journey to the Centre of the Mind Issue

Mambo number 5 is about as close to a bottle episode as it gets in comics, so the main question is 'does it succeed at that?' Cyclops appears briefly at the beginning and end, but he's not a main character per se. The focus is on Kwannon/Psylocke and Quentin Quire - two characters with little, if any history.

Let's assume this white lady is Kwannon, GRRR

It's nice to see Kwannon and Greycrow are still together, though he used to be a lot more attractive. I'm not talking about the weight he's gained, that's great. His facial structure is off - he looks like Kraven the Hunter. I don't think the art style is doing him any favours. They're having the same conversation they've always had so the Kwannon focus is off to a boring start. There's nothing here we haven't heard before, and she's not talking like a real person. Very writerly, like someone who's read the script and is telling us their blunt themes. Trauma stays with you and repeats itself over and over, but unless you're going laser focused on the subject you want to give us something new.

Okay that's pretty funny

Aside from that threat and Quentin saying 'kicks', nothing new here either. 20 pages is a very limited amount of space - I don't think this is the issue for using three of them to set up a smash cut joke. I'll come back to this intro. This mission is the reason these two weren't available last issue. A psychic rescue of Ben Liu, the dude they rescued in #2 and argued with Agent Lundqvist over in #3. He's in a coma and Cyclops tells them not to take their arguing into his head.

There's the 'aliens' he was projecting in #2, and Quentin thinks something is off. Kwannon is right, people usually use sign language and projection during psychic rescues/surgery. He disagrees, of course. The imagery is interesting, but again I feel like we're not learning anything new. I'd expect act 2 here to be more dense - it's a hyperfocused issue but the content is light so far.

Yes, he was experimented on. See what I mean? The art is showing the most blatant 'torturous experimentation by humans' imagery possible - is the most interesting dialogue possible to have them plainly state that? Or to have Kwannon just say she can't see something? This type of mission is an archetype at this point, so we've seen it done well before. Not just in comics either, this is a cartoon/sci-fi staple. People understand the premise, especially if you're economical in setting it up. I think it's a miscalculation to treat the new readers they're trying to hook like they need their hands held. Anyway, there's an entity of some sort - a psychic jack-in-the-box who looks and talks a lot like Cassandra Nova.

Except it straight up tells them who did the experimenting. Great security system lol, or maybe one that assumes they won't be able to tell anyone. 3K sound like overly elaborate dumbasses.

It goes straight for the jugular trauma. Quentin's fear of abandonment name checking his parents (who he accidentally killed, are we retconning that or is this his adopted parents? Probably the latter.) Also Wolverine and Phoebe, which are nice to see acknowledged as important relationships. And of course Sabertooth, who beheaded him and carried it round in a jar, using him as a tool to hurt his friends. It's both very effective and stuff he's mostly dealt with already. Maybe that's why it doesn't stop him for long. No mention of Idie, his oldest friend who's not very impressed with him? No mention of his guilt from X-Force war crimes or the hundreds of times he died? No mention of Krakoa, the loss every mutant should be feeling? Of course not.

Kwannon sees John Greycrow telling her she's wrong and killing himself, and that's it. She has wayyyy more hectic trauma than this so maybe it's fear or insecurity. Either way it feels very small - I love Greycrow and them together but she's a lot more than the relationship. She had a daughter who died, she was bodyjacked for decades, she's been terrorised by Sinister. This feels more like Greycrow's issues than hers. If this is followed up with them being super codependent then fine, it's worth the page space. Right now it feels like Quentin is the main character and Kwannon is a paper cutout. 'I can't' are words I'd expect from Quentin, but Kwannon keeps saying them this issue. If you're not doing it properly, maybe leave her outside as the anchor or something? Focus on Quentin so we get a deeper look under his hood, setup his arc for this run. Psylocke has a solo book coming after all, plenty of time to get to know her again.

Also, is that how Black Bug rooms work? The usage feels odd to me but I'm being hypercritical here. Weigh in if you know.

Quentin hears a psychic gunshot and snaps out of it. That was easy! Cassandra Nova must be losing her touch. I guess it's not the real her anyway, just an echo. Maybe she's not up to her old tricks and letting them know the name of the enemy was intentional. I doubt it, but we'll see. They use Quentin's Omega power and Psylocke's finesse on a psychic fastball special. His echoing of her threat to him as support is a serviceable callback, but it foregrounds Quentin again. Simultaneously too much and not enough, though at least it justifies her presence on this mission.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Is it just me or is that a shitload of blood on the ground? This is the last page, directly following the one I showed above it. Here's what we learned

- Benny Boy is awake.

- 3K are responsible for the adult X-Gene activations.

- On baseline humans, which might recontextualise a thing or two.

- Cassandra Nova is involved.

So a bunch of dipshits dug up an old villain for the fourth time and borrowed a scheme from the Ultimate Universe. Why? How? It'd be good to get Beast or Scott's reaction to that, but there's no room. There wasn't even enough room to show how Kwannon learnt this, but it's a pretty reasonable deduction. My earlier question was 'does it succeed at being a psychic rescue issue?' Just barely. It checks all the boxes but left a lot on the shelf. It took too long to get to act 1 for Kwannon beats that weren't worth it IMO. Yeah I want to know about her but having too broad a focus meant we arguably learnt more about Greycrow than her. We learnt nothing new about Quentin. The psychic rescue was setup last issue, I think starting in media res would have freed up 5-6 pages to put some meat on those bones.

X-Men comics have a long standing tension between new and established readers. 'Every comic is somebody's first' is admirable, but the patience of established readership is finite. I don't think it succeeds well at either, to be frank, and it feels like that tension is a factor. I think at some point you just have to tell the best story possible, otherwise we're left asking 'who is this for?' That's capitalism for you, always chasing growth often at the expense of creativity.

Also, KWANNON LOOKS FUCKING WHITE. She's Japanese. Do better, FFS.

I don't really vibe with numerical ratings, so I'll just say that X-Men issue 5 is totally skippable. The information will be mentioned again and the journey wasn't executed very well. What a shame. The art is okay, consistent with every other issue of this title, except for the whitewashing. It's got a lot of choices I don't love but I suspect they come from editorial (Quent and Cyclops' ages etc.) Thanks for reading.

I've only been work on the Vampire!AU off and on with a couple friends. Namely with @echok1 So I only have a few solid ideas.

The boys were turned sometime in the late 1500s. I was thinking that they had no blood relation to Yoshi/Splinter. But he was the one that changed them into Vampires. This means the Boys aren't exactly mutants but Yokai. But that sort of falls in line with how Yokai actually were created in the show.

Cassandra had CJ YOUNG in this AU. Like just turned 18 young and had given him up for adoption to a local church/orphanage in New York. He didn't last long in there before becoming a street urchin.

CJ was just scooped up by April after he tried mugging her for food and she brought him back to turtles like "I got you guys an Errand Boy". He assists April with managing the house during the day and running basic errands around the city for them.

A F.O.O.T. (Fleet Of Occult Termination) Hunter. They basically track, capture, and destroy occult creatures and entities, Vampires, Werewolves, Ghosts, The Undead and Demons etc. Think Van Helsing. They mostly get the majority of their Jobs from the Church and have to move in the shadows.

X-Men #5

Late, but who cares? Let's go.

So, I've made no secret that I thought Kwannon wasn't really being given enough to do, these last few issues of X-Men, and it's for the same reason I'm happy to see Greycrow here - Zeb Wells' Hellions was amazing. It was one of the few Krakoa era titles that actually bothered to examine the moral double standards of the era, that really took advantage of its unique status quo, that looked at mutant resurrection and thought, okay, how can we mine this, not for obscure background cameos that will make a person on Twitter happy, but for actual drama? It was a truly great series, and I was hoping it would be followed up, if only in small ways.

I do like that Kwannon and John have a cabin together. With how they left off, it felt very personal and intimate between them, like they truly didn't need anything else to be content with one another, and neither of them struck me as people who need action to be fulfilled - or, rather, they don't see action as a means for enjoyment. As Kwannon says here, it merely gives them purpose. So far, so good.

Wasn't expecting an Amelia Voght callback, of all characters. Then again, this is a Jed MacKay joint.

Psychics and death, name a more iconic X-Men duo.

It is interesting that we get kinda sort of confirmation that Quentin remembers being a head, since I would've figured that the Cerebro cradles were down and he'd have lost those memories, but I suppose it's also possible he could have just heard about it second-hand and been like, wow, I got turned into a head in a box? Weird.

Yeah, no, you don't get to call Scott Slim, Quentin. Only Hank, Bobby or Warren get to do that. And Jean, if she's feeling quirky.

Can I also say something? I actually dig Quentin's fit? I don't know if that says something about my fashion sense or what, but I actually like this look for him more than . . . pretty much any other look he's had. Granted, that's not saying much, given his other uniforms were black blazer with t-shirt, the 60s retro-futuristic mutant fascist attire, or the bland melange that was his X-Force uniform, but I do actually like it. Purple and checker pattern work.

So, this whole issue is an homage to New X-Men #121, which was part of Marvel's Nuff Said initiative, and it, along with all the other issues published that month, had pretty much no dialogue in it, it was all told purely through art. It's not a direct homage, of course, since dialogue is happening, but I appreciate the lampshade being hung on it here, with Quentin both pointing out that this isn't like the other homage, and then not-so-subtly pointing out why it isn't like them.

Because Quentin can't shut the fuck up.

Honestly, that's a fun spin on it. That's how you iterate on something you've seen before.

I'm a sucker for mental landscapes. Always have been, always will. I just like getting to grapple with a character's psyche in a tangible way, it's why I like series like Silent Hill or Star Trek's many telepathic episodes. And if I had to break down why I like them?

Well.

Pretty much.

You really could've just called this New X-Men volume 3, Jed, and I don't think anyone would've objected. That being said - I couldn't have given less of a shit what happened in Marauders volume 2, so seeing that Cassandra Nova is back and wasn't consigned to the dustbin because of that series is a win in my book. She's a top tier villain, tbh, one of the best new X-villains of the last 20 years, and her particular incisive methodology for breaking down heroes' psyches feels like it's perfectly suited for the team of this book.

Ahhhh, good foreshadowing earlier, good stuff. And I have to say, Stegman's Sabretooth is fucking top tier. Excellent rendition of the big man himself (whom I already miss, even if he does have a miniseries coming up very soon).

This is a great sequence, tbh. Like, poor Quentin - this is actually the most anyone has made me feel for Quentin since Aaron, about ten years ago - but in terms of threat and character exposition, it's very good, with some excellent art and very Nova-esque deconstruction. I also particularly like this panel composition.

His head is in a smaller panel. His head is literally in a box.

Good stuff, tbh. Again, this is the most useful Quentin feels like he's been in a while, because if he did anything of real worth in X-Force other than die, I'll freely admit that I do not remember it.

Overall, not a bad issue - definitely not as memorable as the original psychic rescue, though.

Now, originally, I was gonna say, you can't hold that against it, it's not easy to match Morrison, that's just common sense, but then again, most writers don't directly invite the comparison, so, I really hope Jed is cooking up something long term and satisfying, because constantly referencing Morrison is all fine and dandy, but it needs to go somewhere.

Still, I'd say the title has been squarely good thus far, and it still has room to get better and better, so I'm gonna give it time to breathe.

Let's talk about the Familial Bonds AU

So I'm currently at home and looking over all the pages of writing and AU's I've made so far, literally don't know how not to be nervous posting about my own AU's but I think part of it was that I wrote this down a while ago. But! Let's do this anyway.

I started writing this post a full year ago. My grasp on long stretches of time is... slippery at best but goddamn. Evidently I wasn't as close to shaking off my anxiety back then as I thought. Which to be fair is still true now. But I've been sick and miserable this past week as well as incredibly bored and I've been thinking about this AU a lot again lately and I've been trying to find a way to ease myself out of my post college graduation burnout and finally posting this seems like a good way to get the ball rolling. So enough about me, let's finally talk about this AU.

So, going from my notes that I wrote a while ago; You're Family Because I Found You, I Found You Because You're Family (I really had a penchant for long and dramatic titles when I first started writing for Rise). Short name: Familial Bonds AU

AU Summary: Stories in this series fall under the head canon that Casey Jones is Cassandra and Leonardo's biological son. So far there are two(?) stories planned for this series.

Something Unspoken: Despite their close relationship and some obvious signs that Casey was in fact Master Leonardo's son, it was never something they acknowledged. Casey spent his first seven years with his mom, moving around constantly to various resistance bases. In those years Casey only ever saw Leo in passing and hadn't yet made the connection himself-- in spite of having some turtle-y features of his own. Casey came under Leonardo's wing at eight years old after his mom died fighting the krang. Living and learning from Leo allows Casey to figure out their connection pretty quickly, but the fact that Leo himself never seems to bring it up* stops Casey from wanting to bring it up himself. Casey is a bit too young to understand or figure out why Leo never seems to want to talk about it so as the years go on they seem to develop this unspoken understanding that it's just something they don't talk about (even though Leo acts as Casey's father in all but name).

Now that Casey is living in the past with a sixteen-year-old version of his dad he has some very complicated feelings about this whole mess and decides he's just gonna ignore the problem and hope it goes away. (Hint hint, it does not.) But of course, it's not exactly super easy to hide all of his more mutant turtle features so he treads very very carefully to make sure none of them realize he's more closely related to the Hamato's than they initially thought. However this becomes harder and harder as a new branch of the Foot clan** starts creeping into New York's criminal underground, and it becomes clear that they also have a vested interest in the key, which the Hamato's are still struggling to figure out a way to destroy.

From here on my notes actually get pretty spoilery so I'll just keep all that to myself for now and go over some other little details.

*A big thing that I actually ended up getting stuck on (and probably one of the reasons I delayed this for so long) was Leonardo's motivation for not talking to Casey about how they're related. For a while I wondered if it was out of character or unnecessarily cruel for Leo to treat him only as a student and eventually I came upon the conclusion that if nothing else, Leo is his father's son and being emotionally stunted is practically genetic in this family. So his reasons I think are more misguided than anything and still come from a place of caring, if still ultimately rooted in fear. I think being in that place of war and loss and seeing the pain that Casey went through at losing his mother I think Leo might have thought to himself "I can't put this kid through that again." In the bad timeline who lived and who died was never guaranteed, and Leo knew he wasn't excluded from that, so I can see his logic as something along the lines of not wanting to give Casey false hope only to then break his heart again. I don't think he necessarily anticipated living to see the end of the war, or that he and Casey would grow closer anyway. And ultimately Leo is wrong anyway, and he can't spare Casey from the pain, and losing Master Leonardo hurts just as much.

**I like to imagine that the Foot Clan has had a few splinter groups form over the years. I mean, they're a few centuries old it's hard to imagine that some people didn't split off. I like to imagine that the group that eventually made it's way to New York that we see in the show is probably the oldest existing sect, hence why they're still deeply into the world of the mystic as well as savvy enough to build a shell company to finance their endeavors. This new group that's coming in is one that I think dropped out of the mystic world a while ago, and didn't really believe in it. They're more strictly focused on just committing actual crime. But with the New York Foot Clan basically wiped out, and with the invasion changing people's worldview a bit, they seize upon the opportunity they see presented to them. Their interest in the key and in post-invasion New York comes from an interest in the krang technology and weaponry. They're not particularly interested in the krang themselves and they're honestly a little smarter than their predecessors so they don't exactly want to open the floodgates again, but they do still want to study the properties of the key and krang tech for nefarious purposes so it unfortunately falls on the weary Hamato's to stop them (poor kids can't catch a break).

There are a couple of other subplots that unfold in this fic (I've thought about this a lot) but again, in the interest of not getting too too spoilery for now, I think I'll hold those details back for a bit. Let's get into the second story I have planned for this.

The More Things Change: Buckle up gang this is the "Leo loses his arm" fic. After getting ambushed by the new Foot Clan Leo is critically injured and the gang has no choice but to bundle him off to an actual hospital in the Hidden City. As they're all sat in the waiting room Casey starts to wonder if certain things are just inevitable as he thinks back to when Master Leonardo lost his arm. Present Leo is understandably pretty distressed about this new development considering he just got out of recovery for his injuries from the invasion and is of course now wondering how he'll move forward from this and if they'll still be able to execute their plan for getting rid of the Key. Perhaps a little unsurprisingly I don't have a lot of notes for this fic yet because it is a sequel to a fic that hasn't been written yet, but the details will get fleshed out as time goes on and I do have a lot of thoughts about it.

My notes for this AU overall are a bit incomplete, which I'm kinda fine with since I wrote them a long long time ago now and revisiting them now actually gives me a chance to really think about filling in a lot of blanks that didn't come up in my initial ideation process. Like you might notice that for an AU about Casey Jones being both Leo and Cassandra's son that for some reason Cassandra seems to be oddly missing from a lot of the plot?? I'm not sure why I initially forgot to include her for about 90% of this but now I can think of a way to actually put her in and do justice to her character rather than just being Dead Mom(tm) because she's so much cooler than that. And I've also been working on fleshing out everyone else's roles in this story because since I've initially thought of it I've come up with a lot more layers and subplots that fit into this universe that I really want to explore.

X-MEN 13, X-Manhunt part 4

How fortuitous that in my inaugural review of an X-Men comic I end up picking the one book I have consistently enjoyed. What fortune.

We pick up where we left up on Storm. Cyclops down for the count, Hank McCoy MIA, Storm possessed, and Xavier being a menace. Didn't catch that the beach they landed on was Utopia, but I won't lie I felt a little emotional looking at that location tag.

Yet another Mutant Homeland... Shattered.

I wonder if that feeling is going to get touched on in greater detail. The fact that Mutantkind has been here before, lost and scattered after a Mutant Nation fell and burned. I like this small moment for what it is, and any acknowledgment of Utopia is great, but I hope for more.

I suppose the "Omega Psychic Contagion" is confirmation that Xavier is contagious, which really was not made clear imo. Presumably he may be patient zero for the psychic plague spreading through Graymalkin guards, like that one guy who saw his family as Sentinels and reacted to it poorly. This does however raise the question: How did this not come up sooner? We are in part four of this event, halfway through, and we just had this dropped in our laps. Are we meant to assume this was a factor the whole time? Will Charles being a Psychic Contagion be brought up because people he was near are going mad from hallucinations?

I do like that Psylock is still angry about Xavier body jacking her in Raid on Graymalkin. Don't let him off the hook.

Quentin coming in clutch to protect Hank and salvage this mission is neat, and yet another threat to my proud Quentin Hater status. I also like the culmination of their little fight, exploring that even if they are equal in raw force, and Xavier has the edge in skill necessary to keep punching all of Quentin's personal insecurities... Quentin is fully willing to fight dirty. But we aren't quite there yet.

Juggernaut continues to prove he is built different. Having the Cosmic embodiment of the universe beat you down and break your helmet would suck, but getting up to say your abusive father hit harder? Peak Cain. Nothing can stop him, not even everything.

"What the Devil-?" Her name is Illyana Max, you know this.

Illyana grabbing the old man's helmet to plop on Beast is some clever tactics, especially with how it comes in handy later... but now I ask why they didn't bring it already? I get there are two telepaths and psi-comms in the team, but why not bring it for when you're taking Xavier into custody?

Temper using thermodynamics to hard counter Storm, even the Eternal Storm, and remove weather control from the playing field is a smart and necessary play. No notes.

I do love the Magic and Juggernaut friendship. They have one braincell between them, and they handed it over to Psylocke. Juggernaut being upset Storm broke the magic helmet he can fix with a thought, and later being so icked out that Illyana looks at souls because of hell childhood. Truly, they are besties.

Xavier crucifying Quentin and lecturing Quentin as he continues just trying to break his will to fight is fucked. I do like that rebel Quentin is still in there, its just that he defines himself in opposition to Charles Xavier, a currently popular choice. And now we get my favourite attack:

Cassandra Nova, I choose you!

Keeping a Cassandra Nova in a box just in case someone attacks your mind is such a reckless yet genius manouvere. 10/10, couldn't have hit a better guy, keep up the great work Mr Quire.

Seems like the most effective tactic to remove the Eternal Storm from a fight is just appealing to Ororo Monroe. Doom did it, Psylocke did it, probably going to be important somehow.

Beast uses Magneto Helm: its super effective

Again, we took down Xavier with the Magneto helmet and a sedative. The sedative was probably the plan this whole time, but why were we not using the helmet from the start?

Psylocke and her low view of herself are definitely going to need addressing. Unless it is, in that Psylocke series I haven't read yet. Thankfully, the threat of executing Maggot in the cocoon forces Storm to leave this Event, with people who know her now aware that she is now host to a Something. The fact we can't take Charles to Graymalkin does raise the question of what to do with him, a question interrupted by Team Bootlicker- I mean The Sellouts- I mean X-Factor. A problem that will need to be resolved in the next issue and next post.

Overall a decently fine issue that progresses the event. X-Manhunt feels pretty rushed and halfway directionless. An event that definitely will read more cohesively in hindsight when all the pieces are on the board. For now, things were resolved, things were set up, and the event continues on.

this is also heavily inspired by Eschatology so there's gonna be lots of lore surrounding the whole. fucking. The Turtles are Weapons of War Thing™ so. yeah.

I hope that after Fall of X is over and we get into the Rise of the Powers of X era, we get a new Destiny map, like the one we got in Immortal X-Men #3. Watching how many of the possible futures Irene mapped play out or get ticked off as no longer being possibilities was a fun element and I really hope we get something like it moving forward. Especially since Irene said all the previous futures she foresaw vanished the moment the Moira Engine was destroyed, and its a whole new ballgame now.

Except, also, its not.

Because her visions of the future were always a completely different thing from the futures that ALREADY happened, thanks to Moira's past lives. The futures we saw through Irene's eyes, like the Empire of the Red Diamond in Sins of Sinister, or the Expanse.....those are null and void now, with the last viable one left from her original map being A New Krakoa.

But while most people concluded that Rise of X was going to follow Fall of X, the specific callbacks to House of X and Powers of X are key. This era is technically called Fall of the House of X, and the next one is Rise of the Powers of X.....meaning that the futures MOIRA already saw are going to become more relevant. House of X was always more focused on the present day, and mutantkind facing their Earth-based enemies like Orchis. Powers of X still always showed a united mutantkind....but those issues were focused on the future, longterm threats facing mutants. Specifically, the Phalanx and the Dominions.

And especially with Mother Righteous seeming close to attaining Dominion status with what she's doing in Immortal X-Men, and Sins of Sinister Year 1000 confirming that at least one of the four Sinisters does attain Dominion status and Mother Righteous being the most likely contender (the writers all like her too much for it to be anyone else. Nobody cares about Orbis Stellaris, and only Duggan gives a shit about Dr. Stasis)...

That to me suggests that after Fall of X we're FINALLY gonna have a breather from Orchis and the constant focus on human bigotry and the new Krakoa will (along with a newly united Arakko, their new direction reaffirmed after Lodus Logos and Storm's faction wins the Genesis War) shift as they turn their focus towards more cosmic storylines. And part of why I think Mother Righteous is the one who'll win Dominion-hood is because the Phalanx are already out there as a Dominion-tier threat and they've put too much work into building up the mystical side of the X-books to pump the brakes there now....so mutantkind will be facing the threat of a mystical Dominion via Mother Righteous, and the cosmic Dominion threat of the Phalanx.

And this was the original Destiny map, and we saw where the bottom branch of it led, all the way to The Expanse, which is what resulted in this future:

The Legion XII branch was a non-starter (my hunch is its what would have happened if Legion took Mother Righteous' deal back in Legion of X #2, but the second he turned her down and she offered the Spirit of Variance to Sean instead, that timeline got snipped).

The Reign of Apocalypse likely got snipped via Apocalypse's own choices to shift his priorities down the road that's led to him changing his name and approach to Revelation now.

Cassandra Supernova was likely a timeline teasing the plotline Orlando was setting up in Marauders, for Nova to escape from Threshold and plot her revenge through the ages...

Nimrod Extinction Event, and how often it recurred as a possibility, is self-explanatory, and so is Krakoan Dissolution. And the Spark Inquisition is IMO where things might have led if they hadn't detected Onslaught's influence and he'd gotten his hooks into the Altar and corrupted what they were building there.

And of course, all of those possibilities were snipped for good the second Judgment Day happened, and committed the timeline to only following one of the branches that branched off AFTER that point....

With the second Nimrod Extinction Event likely being if Orchis succeeds here and now, The Broken Sword being what might have happened if they hadn't figured out Brand was a traitor and her influence over SWORD had been left unchecked (with the Brand-as-a-traitor discovery notably only happening AFTER Judgment Day).

And of course Sins of Sinister is the branching event that led directly into The Empire of the Red Diamond and from there, the Storm System, with both those branches being snipped off the second Moira broke the Moira Engine in the future and Mother Righteous' spell broke it in the present. And we don't have any info yet on what the new future looks like, because we haven't seen Destiny map out its possibilities yet.

But all of that leaves us with the one remaining possible timeline branch, given that we know thanks to well, genre basics, that mutantkind are not going to be wiped out in Fall of X and the second Nimrod Extinction Event is not the outcome here.....leaving....A New Krakoa as the last of Destiny's mapped outcomes. With Fall of the House of X leaving Moira and Xavier out of prominence and favor, and the whole Quiet Council having resigned as of the Hellfire Gala, post FoX, Krakoans are likely going to elect an entire new Council, this time chosen by the people rather than handpicked by the three Founders.....

And then it'll be a brand new ballgame with no futures we've seen so much as a hint of yet, because as of the end of Fall of X, its a completely blank slate.

Despite ALL the foreknowledge, prophecies, time-travelers and precogs in play this era....

Sinister with his Moira Engine (gone)...

Moira with her past lives (the knowledge in them rendered null and void by the simple basic fact that Moira only betrayed mutantkind because her past lives had her convinced that mutantkind ALWAYS loses and Omega Sentinel, who came back from the future of Moira's current life, Life X, only did so because in HER past, mutantkind WON)....

Destiny with her map (followed to completion)...

Etc, etc....

All of that advance intel has all been used up as of now or altered past the point of usefulness. Same being true of all the future knowledge of everyone who was worried about Orchis winning and wiping out mutantkind here, if in fact mutantkind does not end up wiped out, which we know they won't....which means Kid Cable's concerns, etc, are no longer viable.

Tabula Rasa time.

Except for one last time-traveler. The only one left who might have future knowledge that's still relevant, because her future is the only one that still has a possibility of coming true....

Omega Sentinel.

With a possible map of what's to come, in...Rise of the Powers of X.

Because, after all, her future....is the one where mutants win.

Extremely Bad Summary:

DC and TMNT are in the same universe, leading to Shredder going to Gotham leading to the TMNT meeting Batman. Shredder works with Ra's Al Ghul to try and destroy Gotham so Batman, Robin, Batgirl, and the TMNT make an uneasy alliance to take them down together. Also Batman says, "Cowabunga."
