Every time I rewatch To All the Boys I Loved Before and Dan gives his birds and bees speech in the car I have no doubt in my mind that he knew what happened in Korea, that Eve told him, and it has been his duty to make sure it doesn't happen his daughter no matter how embarrassing it is for them.
Logically, I know that he is a gynecologist so he's probably just apprehensive about it in general but I can't help but to just believe that he knew more about his wife's experience in Korea than he let on lol. I just think it makes it more funny.

I just finished re-reading TBOSAS to be fully prepared to read Sunrise on the Reaping and holy shit did I forget how good that book is and how I much I love how Suzanne chose to write Snow and the characters and just- UGH I LOVE IT SO MUCH
and to me it’s a masterclass in perspective and how much certain people are willing to twist over backwards to justify their way of thinking and evil acts like-
First off, the whole the Hunger Games prove that we’re no better than animals without laws- BUT AT THE SAME TIME THE HUNGER GAMES SHOW US THE MOST EMPATHIC SIDE OF HUMANITY
Reaper with his morgue, before the games apologizing to everyone for having to kill them but once in the arena refusing to play along and being mostly in the offensive and treating the murdered kids with dignity, his temporary truce with Lamina after their trade, taking Dill his district partner into the sunlight so she could die in at least the tiniest bit of comfort-
Lamina mercy-killing Marcus and THAT act of mercy being the first kill of the 10th games. Circ and Teslee sticking together the whole time, Lucy Gray herself staying with Jessup until the end
I just- can’t even describe how much those moments and the moments later on in the series of pure humanity like Peeta holding and talking to the District 6 morphling girl when she’s dying, of course Katniss with Rue’s lullaby, all of these direct contradictions to Dr. Gaul’s and Snow’s idea of what human nature is-
Quoting my Shayla, Lucy Gray, ‘I think there’s a natural goodness built into human beings. You know when you’ve stepped across the line into evil, and it’s your life’s challenge to try and stay on the right side of that line.’ AND SHE WAS RIGHT, CORIOLANUS AND DAUL ARE JUST TRYING TO JUSTIFY THEIR WICKEDNESS ADN SELFISHENESS TO THEMSELVES IN ORDER TO NOT HAVE TO ADMIT THEY’RE HORRIBLE PEOPLE especially Snow, that man really out there like, I was just a noble boy who had to make tough choices, at the arena sure but AFTER THAT?! SIR?!
throughout the entire book there is the ocasional passage that really pulls the veil back on how horrible he can be and how he’s the same person he will be in 60 years the only difference is that at the start he doesn’t have any power or influence. He sees Lucy Gray as an object to possess ‘his girl’, gets pissed at the mere idea that she had a life before the Capitol, all his inner thoughts about Sejannus are insane to me like- so many years being a ‘fake friend’ I believe he only genuienly cares about him once they’re Peacekeepers and Sejanus is his only link to the Capitol and they spent more time together
like- inserting himself into Ma’s and Strabo’s lives after he betrayed their son and got him hung?!?!?!!?!??!?!?!?! Diabolical. Actually diabolical.
I like that he does have some conflict about sending the jabberjay but at the end of the day, he still justifies it in his head and he might feel horrible but it didn’t stop him from also stabbing Lucy Gray in the back
Smth I really enjoyed the first time but ADORED the second time around is that- I’m fully convinced that, while part of the reason the mentor thing isn’t repeated is the fact that the kids dropped like flies and made the Capitol look weak- I think the real reason is that most of the Capitol kids got attatched to their tributes, and quite a few of them started seeing that they weren’t that different from them.
Snow mentions that Pub looks like he’s trying not to cry after Lamina dies, Domitia speaking highly of Tanner after his death and making sure to say that he had a good heart, and of course, my fave Capitol kid Lysistrata crying for Jessup and making sure people knew he saved her life and trying to do right by what he would’ve wanted- I just love those moments so much, that show that they’re just kids and while they might not straight up rebel against the system like Sejanus, they’re still conflicted and they know that a lot of it is wrong. or at least they’re able to see district kids as people… UNLIKE A CERTAIN SOMEONE-
Now, my girl, my queen, the songbird herself, Lucy Gray.
I adore her character and, I know there are quite a few ways to interpret her character but I think she was just a girl trying to survive and stay true to herself, clinging to her legacy just as much as Snow did. The difference between them is that Lucy Gray never thought herself superior for being Covey, she just felt truth in that identity and didn’t want people to take that from her.
it’s all right there in her introduction, Nothing You Can Take From Me. The Capitol and District 12 and the peacekeepers took her parents and her freedom and her innocence and they almost took her life but they can’t take her voice, they can’t take the fact that she will always be Covey. And I love that
She def performed for the cameras in order to survive but I don’t think she acted with Snow, maybe at first but in my opinion, after Snow confesses that they don’t have much food at home and starts opening up a bit, Lucy Gray doesn’t perform as much, I really do think she did love him and even above that she trusted him and why wouldn’t she after he helped her survive and gave her hope and believed in her?
From her perspective he might’ve not been fully against the Capitol like she was but she saw him rebel in his own way to help her and he said himself he didn’t agree with it all
They’re trauma-bonded and Snow acts like he cares and keeps his more twisted views from her.
And after Pure as the Driven Snow, I really do think she loved him in spite of their differences.
Up until of course… ‘who’s the third?’
The way everything falls apart so fucking quickly after Snow finds the guns. Like- the whiplash in the last few chapters of this book is INSANE, like snow bounces around having no will to live and being convinced he’s the future president depending on his view of the future. Sejanus dies? Off to the gallows. Lucy Gray is planning on running away? We’re gonna live happily ever after! Offered officer school? Would be great if it weren’t for the guns, now i gotta go to the wilderness cause there’s no choice. Finds the guns? Lucy Gray is suddenly a manipulative maniac that must be put down so he can get the future he deserves.
It’s honestly impressive to me how quickly he starts justifying hunting down Lucy Gray to himself. As SOON as he finds those guns and Lucy Gray leaves he starts twisting every memory of her in his head, convincing himself that her kills in the Arena were too cold and calculated, that she manipulated him and used him, that Billy Taupe was just a poor fool who tried to warn him of who the real Lucy Gray is. Framing what was likely Lucy Gray just trying to buy time with a snake as her trying to kill him. Thinking what, in my opinion was likely a last ditch attempt to connect with him and remind him of everything they’ve been through together by singing the Hanging Tree into her creating a distraction with the mockingjays (Lucy Gray never saw the birds as weapons, why would she use them as such? It’s Snow who thinks that way and thus decides it must be a distraction and not Lucy Gray trying to stop him by singing a song she partially wrote for him with the hope of a new life together)
it is so quick and messy and horrific, how quickly he turns on her as soon as he realizes he still has a chance of gaining power. i mean, before finding the weapons, this is his train of thought while walking through the woods: 'What was there to aspire to once wealth, fame and power had been eliminated? was the goal of survival further survival and nothing more?'
That tells you that there was no other way this story could've ended.
And I love that Lucy Gray haunts the narrative until the bitter end of the Hunger Games, even if her name is forgotten her songs survive to bring fire to the rebellion. quite ironically the only song that is probably straight up forgotten is the one she wrote just for Coryo; Pure as the Driven Snow
I am def a believer that, while Katniss is also a singer, it's Peeta who walks in Lucy Gray's shoes. he's the performer who knows how to play the audience, the artist at heart who loves color and is effortless with his words, it's prob why Snow wanted to cage him so badly
And of course, Katniss is Sejanus, the breadcrumbs for Marcus and the lullaby for Rue. the hotheads who don't think before acting, only do what is right because it's the only thing they could possibly do
UGH i just- I love this book so freaking much
as for what happened to Lucy Gray… I constantly change my mind on what might've happened and I love that, she is meant to be a mystery, she was born to be one and that is yet another thing Snow couldn't take from her ever.
anyways, I've rambled for long enough, the TLDR is, I love TBOSAS, I love Snow as a character and his depraved mind but I also fucking despise him and Lucy Gray never did anything wrong and deserved to haunt the narrative the way she did and ensure that her legacy lived on even if her name didn't whilst Snow might have his name live on but his legacy will forever be spat on and taught as the most deprived side of humanity
…anyways now I'll go continue my 2nd chapter of Katniss as an accidental Covey

Hunger Games Headcannons Part 1
Snow killed Gaul before or during the 25th games during his first year as head Gamemaker. Dr Gaul however saw it coming and put something in her drink to make the poison immune to the antidote so Snow ended up with the mouth scars.
There were more than 7 victors that survived the 2nd rebellion . One was the 72nd victor and another was the 42nd victor. They didn’t show up to Coin's meeting because they were still unsure if it was safe for them to come out to the public. We know that 59 victors were alive during the 75th hunger games and that 18 died in the Thrid quarter quell. We know that 2 died later ( Finnick and Lyme ) and there were 7 remaining victors . Therefore there were 32 unknown victors that were alive by the 75th and could possible have been killed during the purge. I struggle to believe all 32 of them were found and killed by the Capitol or Rebels. At least 5 and at most 15 of the 32 unknown victors survived the war but didn't show up to Coin's meeting.
The winner of the 42nd game was a male from district 5. He won in an unique way by befriending the careers during training and in the arena he was able to manipulate the careers into turning on eachother. He went into hiding during Mockingjay and survived the Victor's purge and 2nd rebellion.
The capitol and the career districts are very accepting of queer relationships while some of the outlying districts (9,10,11) and district 13 are very conservative. The male tribute from District 10 was voted in during the 1st quarter quell for being queer.
They are branches of the Covey that survived in other districts in Panem (3,8,9,11,12). I headcannon that the female district 11 tribute during the first quarter quell was voted in for being Covey and therefore an outsider.
District 10 has a surprising advantage in the games as their tributes know how to use weapons (knives, whips ) and know how to kill. The district has 5 victors and their tributes make it very far. That's why they are targeted by the careers first.
There are still some pockets of religion in Panem especially in the non-career districts. The district 11 male was voted in for the first quarter quell for being an open disbeliever of his district's faith.
The First Quarter Quell winner died during the year of the 72nd games. She was the female tribute from District 10. She was voted in by her district for being a thief. She died aged 62 from an overdose of morphling. She had 8 children and 5 grandchildren. She had lots of children as she knew some were going to be reaped for the games. 3 of her children were reaped and died in the games. One of her children was reaped and died in the 50th games. Katniss learns about her story after the 2nd rebellion when a relative of hers visits District 12.
District 10 has 4 victors by the 75th games ( One dying 3 years prior) . One of their victors won the 72nd games. She wasn't reaped during the third quarter quell and survived the 2nd rebellion and purge as she went into hiding during the start of the war.
Some people in District 13 have Greek names.
The mayor of District 9 during the 74th games was a victor. He was appointed by the Capitol. He died in the third quarter quell.
Victors are allowed to marry the peacekeepers in their district. One of the victors of district 5 was married to the head peacekeeper.
Titus was in Annie's games. He has a Roman Name as his father was a peacekeeper from the Capitol

okay, i finally saw tbosas and here are my thoughts
1. i personally think it would have benefited from being split into two movies, one in the capitol, one in twelve
2. i feel like sejanus wasn’t fleshed out as well as he could have been. i absolutely adore him but in the movie he came across as more reckless as opposed to filled with righteous fury, and his death wasn’t as painful as i was expecting (let’s be honest i wanted to fall to my knees sobbing at his death and instead i was just ‘ahhh noooo ☹️’)
3. ma deserved to be better featured in the movie + she would have helped flesh sejanus out (also to show snow’s relationship with the plinths in general would have really hammered in HOW evil he is)
4. i wish we had been able to spend more time in 12, seen snows HATRED for mockingjays spelt out clearer and spent more time with the covey and see how close they all are and how much they genuinely did trust snow
5. changing the ending of the games with everyone dying from the snakes was a little disappointing but i did laugh when the students started chanting “get her out!” (also when dr gaul said she didn’t care if there wasn’t a victor vs snow demanding there has to be a victor, which 64 years later comes to bite him in the ass was MWUH chefs kiss)
6. critiques aside, every single actor was PHENOMENAL. not a single weak or subpar performance in sight, even characters without any/much dialogue were incredible and scene stealers (shoutout to irene böhm as lamina)
7. the sets and costumes were EVERYTHING, almost everything was exactly how i pictured and if it wasn’t plucked straight from my brain it was even better than i could have imagined
8. rachel zegler and tom blyth please marry me please
9. the part where marcus comes over and tells lucy gray that she can run and get out KILLED me, oh i could just feel my heart shatter in my chest
10. OH MY GOD lucky flickerman being an absolute scene stealer, what an ICON, i laughed at everything he said
okay that’s all i can think of at this moment. overall i did love it but i do find myself being all “the book was better 🤓” but very rarely do movies come close to being as good, and as far as adaptations go i loved it and could make peace with most of their changes

i’ve been getting a little fixated on xo kitty so for a small fandom, here are my opinions and such :3

- i don’t like minho that much and, frankly, i’m not sure why so many people do. he has his good moments but i don’t find him all that endearing. certainly not the best character in the show.
~~ the only thing i really like about minho is the fact that he’s a somewhat feminine guy that’s never made fun of for being feminine. he does stereotypically feminine things: he cares deeply about skincare, being well-groomed, fashion, and being romantic. unlike many other shows and movies, minho is never made the butt of a joke for being, pretty much, the most feminine guy in the show. not only that, his sexuality as a straight guy is never called into question, which is something that often happens with feminine men. i do like that.
- i actually really like madison! i don’t find her all that annoying. a lot of people cited her as really exemplifying the “koreaboo-ish” nature of the show but i actually don’t mind her at all.
~~ i think a lot of people only hate madison because she’s “cringe.” in reality, she’s a cool character who fulfills her purpose well. plus, if we’re talking about her as if she were a person, she’s actually just really nice. at the end of the first season, she’s essentially kitty’s only friend. she never acts as if she’s forced to be kitty’s friend- in fact, when kitty pleads her case, she cheers and claps for her. madison could’ve easily spent her time with eunice and mihee and whoever else, but she chose to support kitty instead. she’s also very communicative with minho. she makes it clear that she’s more interested in hooking up than being in a romantic relationship and lets him down gently. she never “played” him, she just thought they were on the same page. in short, madison is absolutely goated and people just hate her because she’s kinda cringe sometimes.
- i don’t really care about the use of k-pop in the show. it doesn’t bother me and never has. k-pop is a special interest of mine so i am a k-pop fan, but i never felt very pandered to by the show.
~~ i think the show being set in a korean boarding school is a big part of the marketing. k-pop fans are quite the large demographic and for the show to appeal to us is a viable strategy to make it successful. that being said, i’m very neutral about the fact that k-pop is used really prominently throughout. i think it’s actually kinda nice. i enjoy recognizing songs i like in a show i also like. it’s as simple as that. i think there’s something to be said about the fact that the show’s setting is very appealing to me. i love the concept of students of different backgrounds attending this international school while struggling with love, sexuality, culture, and heritage. something about it is incredibly appealing to me. i absolutely love the show despite its flaws.
those are some of my xo kitty opinions :3 i have more so perchance i’ll start posting about this show more since i really like it

THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL, THE LOSER HAS TO FALL ||
Coriolanus Snow x Volunteered Tribute!Reader

summary: reader takes lucy gray’s place for the Hunger Games, and Coriolanus underestimated the reader.
warning: death, stalking, manipulation, violence, mdni, blood, bloodlust, reader’s a skilled tribute
a/n: hi guys! i’m back. here for part one of coriolanus snow and reader. i read the ballad of songbirds and snakes.
There will be no Plinth prize for the Hunger Games, according to Sejanus Plinth, who everyone assumed is Coriolanus’s friend. Coriolanus anticipated the prize for him to enter the university. As Dr. Volumnia Gaul announced for the 10th annual Hunger Games, she declared that she won’t be around forever. Meaning the new gamemaker must take her place, meaning the Hunger Games will continue on, for who knows how long. As for Casca Highbottom, he wished for the Games cease to exist, drinking morphling from a little trinket.
Casca Highbottom warned to not cheat, but something inside of him said he doesn’t want to have the Hunger Games every year.
Putting the spectacle on, he read off the paper contained the list of the tributes and the mentors by the Reaping Ceremony began. Students cheered and congratulated the mentors, depending what kind of tribute the mentors were getting.
Arachne Crane’s smug worn when she got a different district.
“Oh, you’ll be happy about this, Miss Crane,” Casca began, standing up, “The runt girl. District 12.” Then he had his eyes fixed on Coriolanus, as Casca Highbottom said, “She belongs to Coriolanus Snow.”
Coriolanus darted his pale blue eyes up to the screen, to see a selected tribute.
+++
You were nothing compared to Lucy Gray, the songbird from District 12. She’s part of he Covey, traveling from place to place, singing her songs and writing music is all she could do. She had charm and class, and you had none.
A special songbird, singing with her guitar and her special charm exuding her aura for all to see and to be swayed by her. She’s the perfect. But you were nobody. You were born from District 7, lumber, somehow you moved here in District 12, the sector of coal mines and soot. Everyone was unclean.
During the day of the Reaping, everyone stood still, awaiting for the mayor’s words. Until he came up to the mic and announced, “Lucy Gray Baird”.
Several gasps entered, immediately looking at Lucy Gray. Watching afar, you knew she’s not a fighter. She has extreme charm, but she’s not a great asset to the Games.
Reluctantly, Lucy Gray went out and approached the stage. The cameras panned on her as she strode.
Before even stepping onto the stage, you intervened. “Lucy Gray!”
All eyes were on you. And the cameras panned onto you quick—a girl in a crimson dress—red amongst the blues and grays.
Meanwhile the Capitol students in the academy, whispered.
On the screen, you appeared in a red dress with a bow behind your hair, flowing in the wind as you approached Lucy Gray but the Peacekeepers stopped you with the rifles pointed at you.
Lucy Gray’s eyes widened in shock, telling you, “No, (Y/N). No.”
“Lucy Gray,” you shouted, but then the Peacekeepers seized and blocked you, tackling you on the ground as you shouted, “I VOLUNTEER! I VOLUNTEER!”
As you stand up, you pushed the guards aside. “I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE!”
Their hearts stopped. The Reaping went silent as a grave, but the shock on their faces was haunting.
Meanwhile the Capitol, the students in the Academy murmured in an agitated anticipation as Coriolanus got his interest piqued. Not in years during the annual Games ever volunteered in the previous years. This has to be the first.
“Is she crazy?”
“She’s willing to take Lucy Gray’s place?”
“This is the first time I heard of volunteering.”
“She must be out of her mind. Suicidal much?”
“Either she’s crazy or brave. Or both.”
Coriolanus’s heart stopped, too, feeling like the world has ended on his part.
She…volunteered, he thought.
On the screen, you’ve been let go off and embraced Lucy Gray.
“See? I’m fine. We’re both fine,” you said, not minding the cameras. “You’re gonna be okay. Take care of yourself, okay?” you said with a bright smile, patting her shoulders.
Lucy Gray liked your bright smile, but her tears were dripping up close. She can’t cry, not in front of the cameras. You knew that she’s a strong soul to provide comfort within District 12 with her songs with The Covey.
She can’t go.
“Take care of my friend,” she whispered, quivering a little, she eyed on the stage regarding to address on watching her friend, Jessup Diggs.
You nodded with determination fired within you.
“Everything will be okay,” you mouthed as the Peacekeepers escorted you with brute force up on the stage. As you look back, Lucy Gray mourned, but she wasn’t showing it as she’s placed back into the row, safe and sound.
There, you met the Mayor, who was discontented at your sudden volunteer. So does the Mayor’s daughter, Mayfair. As for Lucy Gray’s ex-boyfriend, Billy Taupe, was shocked at the revelation, a changed course in destiny.
“What’s your name,” Mayor Lipp asked, he stepped back for you to take the stage.
“(Y/N). (Y/N) (L/N).”
Mayor Lipp is still displeased. His fists clenched at the folded paper—the once was once called now has taken its place to a different direction.
The crowd now knew your name. You weren’t just some nobody anymore. You’re the person who’s brave enough—or stupidly reckless—to volunteer in taking Lucy Gray’s place.
Meanwhile in the Capitol, in the grand ceremony in the Heavensbee Hall, everyone spoke of your name.
Nothing like the tributes since the first Games. Something stirred inside Coriolanus, and it made him felt…honorable and important. You made him powerful within an instant. He needed a strong presence and a strong conviction, and you were just a perfect tribute.
Maybe the Games won’t be terrible, after all.
As you turned around, Mayor Lipp still gave you a death glare before being escorted by the Peacekeepers. And there, you met a certain tribute named Jessup Diggs. Your head dipped into a bow, and gave him a brief handshake.
“It’s nice to meet you, Jessup,” you said with a gentle smile.
Something’s never been seen before from a tribute. Not only she’s brave, but graceful.
Something out of the ordinary.
The students gossiped again. It was out of nowhere, and changing, as if your presence was welcoming and inviting.
Coriolanus was overwhelmed with a newly presence you’ve brought onto the stage. A duality. Again, is what he needed from his tribute. But you exceeded from his negative expectations. Perhaps this could be his chance to win the Games, and restore his family name to a proper glory. A proper welcome, a proper reputation and money.
Meanwhile, Casca Highbottom wasn’t pleased at your rebellious nature on taking someone’s place, but there were no rules on regarding to the Games. His gloomy eyes darted in subtle anger towards Coriolanus. Coriolanus knew he hated everyone, and despised Coriolanus the most. For what reason, he never knew why Casca despised Coriolanus. The minimal effort of glare told all stories.
Coriolanus, on the other hand, was enamored with the idea of winning the Games, as you were waving at the cameras farewell.
+++
After encountering with Casca Highbottom’s veil threats, Coriolanus spoke to Tigris.
“She’s friendly. She seems healthy. But she looks weak,” he said, pacing the room.
“Coryo, it’s not just about winning,” Tigris protested.
“Everything’s about winning,” he said. “She may wave and gave a handshake in front of the crowd, but she won’t win with friendliness in the arena.”
Tigris shook her head. “She’s brave. Braver than I thought. She took someone’s place.”
Coriolanus did not like her statement. “If there’s something I could pull out of her, maybe there’s a chance to have a great advantage.”
“I wouldn’t be friendly to you, if I was her. I wouldn’t do anything at all. Unless I could trust you.”
“She’s from the District, Tigris. She knows were against her, and her against us. How am I supposed to get her trust?”
“Imagine if it was your name that they pulled and you have been ripped from your home. I just want to know if somebody still cared about me out here. Don’t discount her just because she’s from District, Coryo,” she said to him dearly. “Who knows you might get along with her. And who knows she might bring the best in both of you and herself. She needed strength and confidence, especially from a mentor.”
The next day, Coriolanus examined the white rose in his hand as he waited at the train station.
By the time, it arrived, he has searched for you. And when you got down with the help from Jessup, you spotted Coriolanus and gave him a kind smile, watched as he extended the white rose towards you.
“Welcome to the Capitol,” he greeted.
You looked at the white rose before taking it. “Thank you, for your kind welcome, sir.”
His brow flicked.
“Please, call me Coriolanus,” he said. “No need for formalities.”
You nodded. “Thank you for the rose, Coriolanus.”
Then you offered a handshake. To his shock, he complied.
And nodded.
Then you both stood still, hands still folding with each other.
“Um, what are you doing here exactly?” you said, looking at his fancy school attire.
“I’m here to welcome you,” he answered.
You giggled. “I can see that. But then it feels like you’re here for some reason.”
“I shouldn’t, but I’m your mentor,” he said.
You whistled. “Quite a rebel, huh?”
Coriolanus cringed at the word “rebel”, a poisonous word and threat in the Capitol. He’d to think himself as a good and well-behaved top academic student who likes to seize the opportunity.
“I’m only doing my best to take care of you.”
Another tribute screeched, not wanting to participate in the Games, but everyone knows it’s already too late, still whining like a child.
“Thank you so much, Coriolanus. It’s a pleasure to meet you,” your smile shone brighter as the Peacekeeper escorted you to the truck with other tributes.
Soon, Coriolanus followed you inside the truck, and soon got attacked by Reaper. “I’ll kill you right now,” he threatened.
“He’ll do it,” Dill said, coughing. “Reaper killed a Peacekeeper back in 11.”
“Quiet, Dill,” Reaper warned.
The others were ganging up on him, after being shoved onto the wall.
“Do you guys have a death wish or something? If you kill him, Capitol will do worse than the Games. Don’t you want to at least think about that?”
“Nobody has to know,” the tribute told you.
“Killing my mentor would be a bad idea, dumbass,” you said to them, annoyed. “Unless you’re looking for a worst aftermath, then be my guest.”
The tributes were shocked at your profanity, but others begrudgingly released Coriolanus.
Coriolanus straightened his attire.
“How come you get a mender?” Coral said.
“Mentor,” Coriolanus corrected. “You each get one.”
“And we’ll just trust you on that,” she dared.
“I’m just here to help you,” he said.
“How come this lady in red have a special treatment? The other menders weren’t here.”
You looked at Coriolanus. “None of them are inspired, my guess.”
Then you winked at Coriolanus.
And he smirked at your confidence.
Then the truck tipped over and the tributes slipped down, while Coriolanus took your waist and stayed intact, trying not to let go of the rope. Then his hand slipped, and slid, rolling off with the rest and they were trapped in the Capitol Zoo.

Peace | Coriolanus Snow
Pairing: Coriolanus Snow x reader (fem!District12!Baird!reader)
Summary: Coriolanus Snow never thought that he would find peace, until he did.
Warning/s: Snow being in love, Snow being Snow, talk about death (reader is alive, don't worry), possible grammar and spelling mistakes
Author's note: Inspired by one and only Taylor Swift.

Our coming-of-age has come and gone
Suddenly the summer, it's clear
I never had the courage of my convictions
As long as danger is near
And it's just around the corner, darling
'Cause it lives in me
No, I could never give you peace
Coriolanus Snow could swear that the rustling of the grass beneath his shoes couldn't be louder as he walked in the Meadow.
However, even though he felt an odd irritation towards that, he felt good. He was finally able to get rid of his Peacekeeper white uniform which he replaced with a simple white shirt and some gray pants that he found. His dog tag was still hanging from around his neck. He forgot to take it off from all of the haste when he was trying to find you as fast as he possibly could once his shift ended for the day.
The wind was dancing gracefully across the leaves on the trees surrounding the always oh so peaceful Meadow just a little outside of the border of District 12.
District 12.
Coriolanus Snow was still a little bit doubtful when it came to the loser District.
He could remember his hated towards, well, everyone and everything when he found out that he was going to be deported for the Peacekeepers. He could still remember that empty feeling when he sat at, what seemed like, the most uncomfortable chair in the world as someone started to cut his blonde locks away.
He lost everything. Every hope for the better.
That is up until it was reported to him that he could chose any District in all of the Panem that he wished.
Coriolanus could've been deported to a nice, clean District like 1 or 2. Yet he chose the poorest District of all. The words "District 12" left his mouth without the second thought when the authorities asked him where he wanted to be deported. He didn't even speare one single thought as he said it.
He asked himself, why did he do it? The question wouldn't leave his mind. It haunted him every day. It clouded his ever racing mind.
Why did he do it?
Yet now, he finally spotted a figure sitting on a giant rock, playing the guitar while muttering the words as she tried to write yet another masterpiece that he was going to cherish forever.
Your hair was flowing around in the wind as your fingers graced the strings of your guitar that Coriolanus got for you from the Capitol.
He tried to stay as quiet as he possibly could. He didn't want this moment to end. He didn't want you to stop singing so he froze once he got close enough so he could listen to you for a bit.
Even the mockingjays on the trees seemed to quiet down as you played the guitar. They were soaking up every melody, every note that you decided to grace the word with.
"And it's just around the corner, darling
'Cause it lives in me"
Your melodic voice rang around the Meadow. So quiet yet so powerful. Graced with softness and pure care. He didn't deserve you. He knew that.
Suddenly nothing mattered anymore. The only thing that truly mattered was the fact that you were alive.
Every doubt he had racing, cursing, his mind vanished forevermore as he listened to you sing and play your guitar, when he saw you performing with the rest of the Covey, your family, the night after he got deported to 12.
Right now, nothing was more important to him than you. He didn't care about his deportation, about Dr. Gaul, about Highbottom.
Maybe he was clueless. Maybe it was his fault for letting himself feel vulnerable in this very moment in the Meadow outside of 12. Or maybe he was just young and dumb for finally letting his guard down... but he felt like there was hope for him at last. Because you were here. You were alive, and if he had to mess up his reputation and lose everything once more just so he could here the sweetest of melodies leaving your lips he was sure that he would do it.
"No, I could never give you peace"
But I'm a fire, and I'll keep your brittle heart warm
If your cascade ocean wave blues come
All these people think love's for show
But I would die for you in secret
The devil's in the details, but you got a friend in me
Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?
Coriolanus felt himself freeze completely.
His brain nor his body was working anymore as he watched the screen along with the rest of his classmates that were chosen to be mentors for this year's tributes in the Hunger Games.
The scene was tough to watch. He wanted to look away yet he found himself unable to do so.
No matter how hard he tried he couldn't rip his eyes away from the screen that showed reaping the tribute he was supposed to mentor.
A girl from District 12.
He felt uneasy the moment he found out who he was supposed to be mentoring, he felt like his hope was lost. His hope for winning the Plinth Prize and repearing his reputation was ruined. He was ruined.
But now, as he watched you step in after your name was called out, he felt unfamiliar feeling of pure warmth growing and spreading in his chest, consuming him completely. The feeling was unknown, it made him feel weak. Out of control. He hated it.
Yet, as Coriolanus watched your hair bounce as you stepped out of the crowd in the middle of the square, he felt like he would fight the devil himself just so he could make sure that you were safe, that you were going to get out of the arena alive.
He watched your expression and your posture. You were trying to appear as calm and unbothered as possible. You were successful in your attempt, but he saw right through it.
Perhaps it was because he found himself in the similar position as he watched you or perhaps he simply observed a bit too closely.
Whatever it was, it did not prepare Coriolanus Snow for what was about to happen.
°
Why am I here? What am I doing?
These are the questions Coriolanus asked himself as he unintentionally, yet at the same time quite intentionally, tried to seek some warmth from his red Academy's uniform in his pathetic attempts to warm himself up a bit in the middle of a very cold night on his way over to the zoo where you were forced to stay before the games started.
The food wrapped in a handkerchief that had his father's initials on it started to feel too heavy in the pocket of his uniform.
Feeling the cold shiver run down his spine he realized that it's not from cold or from the fear of the Peacekeepers blocking his way over to you in the middle of the night. No. It was something else. Something he was aware of, but couldn't yet admit it to himself.
He watched every step he took so as to not startle you in the cage of the zoo.
As he got closer, he realized that he saw a figure in the dark leaned against the bars of the zoo's cage.
It was you, of course. You were looking up at the sky as your hair slightly flew around in the light, cold night's breeze.
At first he thought that his plan to play star-crossed lovers was a dumb call. That it was bad. Mentor falling desperately, hopelessly in love with his tribute was just madness and quite a desperate attempt to draw some good public's attention to give you a shot at surviving in the arena was quite pitiful, truly. Where was his head at, at that moment? Who would ever fall for that nonsense?
But as he saw how the people thrived for a tragic pair of star-crossed lovers and as he realized that good citizens of the Capitol loved a good tragic story, he came to a conclusion that maybe all of this was actually worth it.
More importantly, as he called out your name quietly as to not startle you and alert other tributes he figured that it was a right call after all.
Especially when, even tho a part of him didn't want to, as he came over to you on the other side of the bars, gave you food that he smuggled from the Academy, wiped your long lost tear as it streamed down your beautiful cheek, as he soked in your beauty, admired your gentil kindness and finally as he kissed you like he needs you more than an oxygen that he has to breath over the empty space in the middle of the bars, he wasn't really pretending after all.
Yet when it was time for him to go home just so his absence doesn't go noticed by grandma'am and Tigris, he asked you one thing that was bothering him, eating him alive. One thing that caused him absolute despair from the moment he met you.
"Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?" He whispered in the darkness as he held his hand against your cheek like you were the most delicate rose.
Your integrity makes me seem small
You paint dreamscapes on the wall
I talk shit with my friends
It's like I'm wasting your honor
Coriolanus Snow was hurrying towars the room in the Capitol's Academy in which he will be able to monitor the games along with some of his classmates.
He had to stay at home to help his grandma'am much longer than the would've liked. He was in such a hurry that once he got to the door he literally pushed it open with full force.
He strolled down effortlessly over to his chair so he could look over you as he heard the voice of one and only Lucky Flickerman.
"Now that is an entrance I'm jealous of."
Coriolanus ignored him.
He sat down next to Sejanus Plinth as he reasted his head on his hand as soon as he did that, the look of pure stress overflow his features as his piercing blue eyes locked themselves on the screen watching you.
"I may be wrong." He heard the voice of Sejanus Plinth as he stared at the screen, not looking away. "But it seems to me that you actually, genuinely care about whether or not she makes it out alive."
Coriolanus felt himself freeze for a moment, but he quickly forced himself to gain his composure back.
"I don't-"
"Don't lie to me, Coryo."
He kept his mouth shut after that.
And you know that I'd swing with you for the fences
Sit with you in the trenches
Give you my wild, give you a child
Give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other
Family that I chose, now that I see your brother as my brother
Is it enough?
Coriolanus Snow could still remember the feeling of slight cold breeze as he hoped off of the train in 12 for the first time ever.
His boots stepped right into mud and he closed his eyes for a moment in slight annoyance. What an amazing way to alive here and do the things he was ordered to do.
He gripped more tightly just in hope to gain more confidence that he could actually pull through with this.
He stepped forward, letting out a puf of breath to steady himself.
Just as he was about to step after the rest of the new recruits as the one who is last in line he heard something that he hoped he would hear again. A voice which belonged to the person for whom he decided to go to the poorest District, paying the last bit of money he owned.
"Coryo!" Your voice shouted and he turned around slowly, almost not believing that you're here.
You ran as fast as you could just to get to him as fast as possible.
Your hair was flying around as your ran, the back of your dress dragging itself after you. The lightness of your steps, the graceful way you carried yourself, your eyes, your lips, you.
You collided against him, throwing your hands around his neck as you gripped on his shoulders as tightly as you possibly could, afraid that he will disappear from your grasp once again.
You looked so out of place. You were like a finest, most beautiful rose of all, but that rose grew in the middle of the mud. It fascinated him.
He wrapped his arms around you instantly, gripping your body strongly yet at the same time gently as he brought you to his body even closer. You felt like if he pulled you any closer the two of you would become one person.
He hid his face into your neck, breathing in your flowery scent. It smelled like home. Home which he was forcefully ripped away from, but now he was finally able to return.
"How did you-? What-?" He stuttered, couldn't get the words out.
"Tigris told me you were about to become a Peacekeeper." You got out, still holding onto his arm, your gripp still tight, afraid of losing him again. "However, Sejanus told me that you would arrive to 12."
This took him a back a little.
"You spoke with Tigris?" He asked, his voice not hiding his utter, but non the less happy, shock.
"We wrote to each other." You answered with a smile. "She's amazing, truly."
He couldn't be happier at this moment, he was so happy that it scared him.
But maybe, as he watched your smile and took your hand into his, pressing your palms against each other, he realized that just maybe life in the poorest District won't be as bad as he was afraid.
But there's robbers to the east, clowns to the west
I'd give you my sunshine, give you my best
But the rain is always gonna come if you're standing with me
One thing was for sure, life after the games was not easy.
You would have nightmares. He didn't know about them, you wouldn't told him. That is up until the rest of your family met up with him on a picnic day.
You looked so tired, so pale, you weren't acting like your usual self. It scared him.
That's when Lucy Gray pulled him aside after she saw his worried gaze on you the entire day. What she told him ripped his heart and shattered every piece.
"She's screaming at night." Lucy Gray whispered just so you wouldn't catch them, not that you could, you were so tired you were barely awake. "She has nightmares about the arena."
When he later on confronted you about your nightmares just so he could help you somehow you broke down.
You told him that maybe it wasn't the best idea for him to be with her. You were sad a lot more often, the screaming because of nightmares and everything else haunted you.
Before you could say anything else, tho. He kissed you like he would die without you.
"You're safe with me." He mumbled against your lips. "We can have a future here together, that is if you will have me."
"Of course I will Coryo, but-"
"No but's, then, my love." He told you, taking the handkerchief out of nowhere as he wiped away your tears that continued to stream down your face.
"Here, away from every harm, away from the games... maybe I could finally give you peace."
Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?
Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?

Cruel.
Absolutely cruel.
Those same words repeated in your head as the man in front of you, Dr. Goeff Ernstmann led you around the facility, explaining something that he calls 'Angel Engine'.
You were a new rook in the facility with the scientist trusting you that you wouldn't do anything reckless within the facility. He recruited you with little to no effort, thinking things would be easier considering he trusted you in the past. Yet, he didn't seem to notice the gaze I held while walking through the empty laboratory, only having me, Goeff, and another scientist.
In front of us is a large metal door. You also took notice of how outside the lab, many armed forces lurked, waiting to shoot the moment a single wrong move arises.
Turning your focus elsewhere, you now watched as the other scientist pulled the mental door to the side, slowly revealing the once praised messenger of god now strapped onto wires and metal, basically caging the being who only gave them kindness and help. Not only strapped, but countless of wires are seemingly lodged in its body, siphoning its power.
"Help... Me..." it slowly called, its eyes hollow with black liquid pouring out of it, its mouth in a seemingly permanent smile with a few of the similar black liquid spilling from the corner of its mouth.
When it spoke, you can only watch as all these wires and metal surrounding it like a cage. Its wings are there, but unmoving, lost of its power and strength.
"We ran every test in the book on this guy here, and the results are incredible," Dr. Goeff started, praising the being as if its nothing but something inanimate.
"There doesn't seem to be a limit to its energy output," he explained, a wide grin on his face as he awaited your response to his words. "Which mean...?" You asked rather slowly, your mind still comprehending the angel before you.
"Which means, if our current results are anything to go off of, we could power the whole world for millenia," he answered, yet those words are yet to enter your head as you continued to stare at the angel, and quite frankly, it was, too, staring right at you. It was as if it was coveying a message, and it was.
"Look upon me. Look upon me. Look upon me. You are here for me. Release me. Your wages would be plentiful." It repeated the words as it echoes in your mind, it may not speak physically, but it could still convey messages no human could do.
■■■
As you continue to stare at the angel, Dr. Goeff soon finished with his explanation and ended up noticing your focus was elsewhere and not on him.
"Taking a liking to the engine, no?" He teased, a hidden venom laced in his voice. He had caught you, "... Or, don't tell me, you feel sympathy for... It?" He asked, holding you by your shoulders and holding to there as he lean closer.
"You know that kind of thing wouldn't be considered in here... And could cause this entire project in jeopardy... Right?" He laced, uttering the words in your ear. Yet as he spoke, your eyes remained at the angel as it continues to convey its words to you.
"Found me. Angel, you found," the angel spoke. This strengthens the underlying and unknown resolve in you.
You're going to get that angel out of that thing.
"Just wait...." you thought, hoping he can not only convey messages but also here your own.
■■■
Now, you have a new mission inside of the facility. Save that angel. Would it save the angel? Yes, yet would it be helpful to the world? Possibly not, but do you care? No, after all, this would be the karma they'll feel for caging and exploiting the being who came down to help them.
Little by little, you take your little chances to enter the lab over and over again. Tinkering with whatever you can depending in the time, you went through either the machineries siphoning the angel's powers or try your luck to remove whatever you can off its body.
As you tinker with the metal and wires on him, his eyes, or what you thought were his eyes, followed your every move. Despite already finding you as the human that will save him from this cruelty, he still find doubt and has his guard up for anything that might happen.
You continued tinkering with whatever you can without notice, much to your surprise considering how guarded the facility is.
Everything is going smoothly, you thought as the idea of your mission becoming a success is coming quicker than you imagine.
Yet, you shouldn't have jinxed it.
■■■
As you remained checking the 'results' of the experiments on the angel, Dr. Goeff approached you.
Calling out your name, he waved at you as he approach by, "Hey there, have a minute?" He asked, extending his hand out as if pointing whether or not the papers in my hand is important.
You raised an eyebrow before placing down the papers on a table nearby, "What do you need, Dr. Goeff?" You asked before he motioned you to follow him.
As the two of you walked in utter silence, you slowly came to the conclusion that he might be going to ask you relating the Angel Engine.
Keeping your guard up, you awaited for the man to ask as he asked you to sit down on the chair opposing to his on the other side of the table.
"Let's get to the point," Dr. Goeff started, sitting down before placing both his arms over at the table as if eyeing and shrinking you down. "Recently, the staff has noticed... Slight alterations to the engine, much so when we checked the cameras outside of its chamber..." he paused for a moment, leaning further in front.
"And we saw you, coming in and out of the chamber more times than the staff meant to experiment... Could you explain why?" He slowly asked, tilting his head to the side, a wide, creepy grin plastered on his face.
Of course, you thought to yourself, things under here aren't meant to be easy. And in times like these, you just so happen to know a few cards up your sleeves.
■■■
Soon enough, you manage to get the man off of you, but he did remained to keep an eye on you. This meant you wouldn't be able to tinker with anything in the lab for now, not while Dr. Goeff is up your ass.
For now, you have to stay low and have Dr. Goeff to leave you alone.
Meanwhile, in the chamber/lab the angel was being held for, he felt it. Another being has descended in the world, but without anyone knowing.
He is coming.

Commander Snow
Summary; Under the advice of Dr Gaul Coriolanus returns back to district 12 where without blinding light of lucy-grey he could see you.
Warnings; dead dove to do not eat, stalking, unrequited love, possessive!Snow, unco/dubco, sexual content, she/her pronouns.
Next chapter
When Dr Gaul suggested Coriolanus return to compete his officer training, he was mortified. But she had made a valid point about his presidential future.
A man who served his country was easier to sell than a spoilt rich boy who deserted his post.
She would bring him back for the lavish parties and important ceremonies to shake hands with the right people. They all told him what a fine young man he had become. Following his fathers footsteps, despite his down fall.
He would smile and tell them it was an honor to serve Panem. An honor to fill the shoes of Commander Hoff and restore order to district 12.
Commander Hoff had been killed by rebels. A bomb went off during a hanging, hidden under the floor boards and trigged by flex of the rope. Commander Hoff had been standing directly above it and left district 12 with a dire need for a leader.
Coriolanus had only started to settle back into capital life. Before he was torn from his riches and thrown back into the dirt.
He was still bitter about returning, but his opponent, Augustus Bloom, for the presidential run was highly well known, and a few years older then him. He was a well established business man, and Coriolanus still had a school boy image.
Still, as Dr Gaul reminded him, Augustus had only known the spoils of war. Which made him fine company for dinner, but for a leader of Panem people would be looking for a man who would not shrink in the face of violence. A man who kept the scum of the districts at bay.
When President Ravinstill finally breathed his last breath Panem would be looking for a new leader and Coriolanus wanted to be the only one they turned to. With Dr Gaul's help it was a possible goal.
The first thing he did as commander was out up a electric fence around the district so there was no chance of lucy-grey returning or her covey sneaking out to help her with supplies.
He ruled district 12 with a harsh fist. It was good practice for when he would rule Panem. He experimented with ways to control people. He found that the best way was the hardest.
Fear was a great oppressant but also a great motivator. He had to balance it with small pockets of relent. The tiger won't bite you if you don't pull it's tail.
Keep in line, and the Capital would provide for basic needs. Coriolanus knew first hand what people would turn into when their basic needs were not met. So feed them, clothe them, offer the occasional entertainment to distract them from their miserable existence.
It would keep the majority at bay. And for those who knew better than to be lulled into compliancy, cruelty would be unleased into the district. Food shipments cancelled, mandatory public executions, Peacekeepers given free rein to take what they liked and flog anyone who protested. The people of district 12 would grow to hate rebels.
However, his tyrannical rule left him isolated from his army. The men kept out of Coriolanus way. Even those directly below him offered no familiar way of talking.
Only in his weekly call with Tigress and Grandma'am could he talk about something other than strategy.
He took to walks on sunny days to break up his day between work and sleep. Most of the men in his camp had taken to the district looking for their fun. Coriolanus wasn't invited out.
So he walked around the facility. Weaving through the large buildings and metrically kept gardens.
He was just about to head back to his apartment and settle himself down with documents awaiting approval when he heard quite yelling and whispers coming from the prison windows.
It was located at the far end, hidden between a tall brick wall and link fence.
He pressed himself to the wall.
"here! Here!" he could hear the quiet demands.
A traitor was interfering with Capital business. Coriolanus would make sure this rebel would met a fate worse than those imprisoned.
He peaks from behind wall not to see a ill fed man who dreams bigger than his station but a women overcome with compassion.
You're standing up on your tippy toes on the prison cell window. A basket over your elbow while your hand clung to the cell bars to keep you up. You were passing oat squares from your basket to blind hungry hands.
You had an air of vulnerability about you. A doe eyed looked that invited predators. Come eat me you seemed to cry. Coriolanus planned to do exactly that.
he walks over, trending lightly so he made no noise and picked you up by the waist, putting you down on the ground.
You stilled underneath his touch, frozen from fear. You slowly turned to see who's chest was touching your shoulder to see Coriolanus, the Commander of district 12.
You looked like Tigress had during the war. A quite braveness about you shun in your eyes. A willingness to do anything to protect those who you held dear.
Coriolanus had wanted to invite you back to his office where he would offer you a drink, and inquire about you.
But you had taken off before he could part his lips. Ran back to the broken linked corner of the fence and pulled your body along the ground and through the metal. You had dropped your basket at his feet and he kicked it as he ran.
He chased after you, grabbing your ankle and pulling you back towards him.
"Wait!" he implored. Something about you drew him to you.
It could have been his desire to protect Tigress all those years ago. Tigress had looked after him all his life and he had a large debt that he only started to pay back. Part of him held on to the disgust that he had failed her for so many years. You had the same loyalty as her, he could tell. Perhaps you could play a role in healing history.
Or perhaps it was your evident kindness that he wanted to trap like a butterfly. District life here was cold and lonely. He longed to be looked after like he was back home. He was a great and powerful man but with no one dotting on him he felt no better than a lowly peacekeeper. At least they had each other. Commander Snow had no one but his reflection to boast praise upon him.
Maybe it was a mixture of the two.
Your cry out as the sharp metal dug into you as he pulled you back through it. It was enough for him to release you. If you were hurt that's all you would be able to focus on. For all one knows, it might be all he would be able to focus on.
He stood up and watched you flee in the distance until not even a shadow of you could be seen. He committed your image to his memory, picked up your basket and walked to the entrance of the prison where the clueless peacekeepers standing guard greeted him.
He sent two to fix the hole in the fence, and demanded one other to bring him the prisoners facing the west wall one by one.
Hours of interrogation later and Coriolanus gave up hope that one of the prisoners actually knew you.
Some could describe you from what they saw but that was no good to him. He already burned you into his brain.
----------
Instead he issued mandatory vaccines. Sections were given time allotments to avoid overcrowding so he didn't miss you amongst the people and secondly so he knew which part of town you resided in.
It must have been the outer part as it was late afternoon of standing between each line for Coriolanus before he could finally see you in line. He had taken to eaten the rest of the oat bars in the basket after a nightfall of interrogation. Sat at his dinning room table in nothing but his underwear and devoured the small bars.
With acknowledgement that your resources were limited, they were quite good. Even after he was full he kept eating, hating the idea that anyone but him would taste or touch your cooking. You cooked with love he could taste it.
It reminded him of Tigress fried potato. She would always leave the best pieces for him. He imaged you both would be good friend's. Bonding over Coriolanus.
Despite his romanticizing of you last night, he didn't move, choosing to act as if he had forgotten you.
You had not forgotten him. You kept your head down, wore different clothes than yesterday and a scarf covered your hair.
You didn't really have much of a choice. peacekeepers were searching each house and surrounding areas to ensure all members were present. You also needed your vaccine booklet stamped. One missing stamp meant serious trouble.
He tried not to be obvious as he watched you get your vaccine. you moved quicker then the rest, rushing to the back as soon as your book was stamped.
He reached under one of the covered desks to retrieve your basket and followed pursuit.
He followed you as you moved through the people. Several peacekeepers had been instructed to help herd the women Coriolanus followed into a nearby ally way.
You attempted to turn right through the buildings but a Peacekeeper appeared out of thin air. You retracted froward but a looming peacekeeper at the gate squared his body to you.
You took of running to the right were another peacekeeper pushed his way through the crowd to you. You turned back to see Coriolanus walking through parted people. You see the ally and make way for it.
The plan had worked perfectly, and he nodded to the Peacekeeper still making his way through the crowd to say your work is done.
He sees you banging against the gate he had locked, trying to shove it open.
He fiddled with basket under his hand. Rubbing his thumb up and down the threaded wood as he made his way towards you.
You turn around to face him upon hearing his footsteps. You weren't sure if you were backed into a corner or if your body moved itself.
"You forget your basket yesterday" he held it out towards you but you didn't accept it.
"It ain't mine" you reply. You eyes don't even look at it. Keeping them on your shoes.
"So if i was to arrest you until the DNA testing came back on it you wouldn't mind?". He could feel your body tense.
"There ain't no rule that we can't feed em'".
A confession so quickly. Yet you still refuse to look at him.
"There is a rule about associating with rebels".
He steps closer, his shoulders lean forward almost over you.
'i was just feeding. Not associating".
Coriolanus sucks his teeth. He would feel almost disappointed having given the basket back. He would like to keep a piece of you.
"I could hang you for this, or..."
Your eyes flick to his. There was a lightness in them that you weren’t expecting.
“Or we could keep this to ourselves” he leans in close to whisper. You could feel his soft breath on your cheek, “our little secret”.
He swings the basket just outside of your hand. You reach for it but he swings it back.
“It would make us partners in crime” he warns.
He was playing. His eyebrows raised in a playful way and a slight smirk played on his lips.
You didn’t share in this playfulness. Too many of your friends had been killed by peacekeepers to find any of them amusing.
“What do you want from me?” you ask. Your eyes still at his. He saw the same fire for survival as his.
Coriolanus steps back from you allowing some distance.
“I want to help you” he swings the basket into your hand, “will you let me?”
You don’t answer. Just yank the basket away from him and turned to run out back from the ally. Taking the opportunity of him being back from you.
You turn as you wedge yourself back into the steam of people to see Coriolanus watching you as you as you try and disappear.
You knew it wouldn’t be the last time you saw the Commander.
You run home with a peacekeeper tailing you. Or at least when the basket of food appeared on your doorstep the next morning that's what you assumed.

A small study on the difference between how Lucy Gray Baird and Sejanus Plinth haunt the narrative
contains spoilers from Sunrise On The Reaping!
Little disclaimer: this is my personal interpretation of the books and the characters! You're free to disagree with me, but please be nice about it :)
While less talked about, Sejanus haunts just as much as Lucy Gray does. But while Lucy Gray haunts the narrative, Sejanus haunts Snow. Let me elaborate on that.
Coriolanus, through the books, always seems to be followed by Lucy Gray's ghost[metaphorically or not, I'm not implying she's officially dead]: Haymich's girlfriend being a covey, Katniss and the mockinjay, The Hanging Tree song. I don't think he ever forgotten about her, probably tries to, but she's always there to taunt him.
Snow despises Lucy Gray because he doesn't have any control on her. She's a "free spirit", he thinks he has control over the narration of her Games and life yet snaps any time he's reminded that, in fact, he doesn't (ex. when he sees Lenore Dove). Snow wants to keep Lucy Gray a secret, he doesn't want anyone to know about her, to know what happened to her. He's scared people will find out what happened in the woods.
And if you think about it, Snow's issues with Lucy Gray have always been about that, began with that idea: "no one has to find out about this, and I'll make sure every obstacle is gone, dead or forgotten".
Her references in Sunrise On The Reaping are explicit, because Lucy Gray haunts the narrative. Lucy Gray "flies" over the story and influences everyone in it with her disappearance (the many songs that are mentioned, the way Snow talks about her to Haymitch, Haymitch being shown the interview etc.).
And Sejanus?
Sejanus doesn't haunt the narrative, Sejanus haunts Coriolanus Snow.
Sejanus' "haunting" happens to a more personal level than Lucy Gray's does. Sejanus' death doesn't affect the narrative (to an extent), it affects Coriolanus personally. Coriolanus isn't scared of anyone finding out about Sejanus and his death, everyone knows about him and the way he died, but no one is affected by it the way Snow is.
Lucy Gray haunts Coriolanus and the narrative in a "You can't escape me and what you did. You'll be haunted by me and what you did to me forever". Sejanus haunts Snow in a "You can't forget me. I'm everywhere, but only for you to see me. You don't feel guilty for what happened to me, but I'll always follow you."
The proof of this is that while (as I previously said) Lucy Gray's references in Sunrise On The Reaping are always explicit because the reader has to get them, the same way Haymich does (even while not knowing Lucy Gray at all), Sejanus' references are subtle. They're "quiet", you don't catch them unless you pay close attention. And that's because they're only for Snow to get. They're not actual references, they're things (anything) that only Coriolanus will forever associate to Sejanus. I already made a post about those references, so here's a quick recap:
1. Drusilla being related to Prof Sickle, whose pupil was Sejanus; 2. The peacekeepers discussing the gym used as training center, gym payed by Strabo to ensure Sejanus' graduation; 3. Haymitch letting a rabbit guiding him through the Arena, and Dr. Gaul comparing Sejanus to a rabbit when they escaped from the Arena with Coryo; 4. One of the D2 tributes being named Janus; 5. Lenore Dove loving gumdrops, and Snow poisoning her with them. Gumdrops, the same thing Coriolanus associates Sejanus with since it's what he was holding the first time they met; 6. Haymitch imagining of a peackeeper in 12, hung for helping the rebels.
All of these references are subtle, some might even say "a stretch". Yeah they're subtle, yet so many of them are somewhat "important" to the plot. But you wouldn't associate them with Sejanus, would you? No. Not unless you're Coriolanus.
Don't get me wrong: Snow doesn't feel guily about Sejanus. But while Lucy Gray haunts him in a more "terrifying" way, Sejanus haunts him in a natural way. Snow doesn't care about it, Sejanus' memory isn't a threat to him like Lucy Gray's is.
And so, once again: Lucy Gray may haunt Snow and his narrative. But Sejanus haunts Coriolanus Snow personally.
