Went to CPFF yesterday, and I was wearing my fox necklace and my matching fox skirt and bag, and there was a film called Dragfox about a young trans girl with blonde hair called Sam who is taught to love herself by a fox in drag voiced my Ian McKellen.
Anyway I'm convinced it was about me.

Ian McKellen Teams Up With ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’ Star Divina de Campo for Animated LGBTQ+ Musical ‘Dragfox’
"What’s important about growing up – as this film says – is to be yourself," legendary British actor Sir Ian McKellen said of 'Dragfox'
“When I was a kid growing up in South Lancashire just after the war, there were lots of things that preoccupied us, nobody really had time to wonder what it was like to be a little gay boy growing up at a time when that word hadn’t really been invented.” “We were ‘queers,'” he continued. “We were looked at from other people’s points of view, and what’s important about growing up – as this film says – is to be yourself. Not in a selfish way but just in a life-affirming way. There was a total lack of that for me, as I suppose there is for trans people today. And often the best way to get a message over is not to make a speech or write a book, but to make people smile. Lead them in. Persuade them there’s nothing frightening going on. Which is exactly what this film does.” — Ian McKellen / Hollywood Reporter, 28 June 2024

Inner West free Pride Month film screenings and market day
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/inner-west-free-pride-month-film-screenings-and-market-day/
Inner West free Pride Month film screenings and market day
Queer Screen is partnering with Sydney’s Inner West Council for a special Pride Month event Pride Screenings & Market at Leichhardt Town Hall on Sunday, June 22, from 11.30am to 7.30pm.
“This free screenings program encapsulates everything that Pride should be about: community, activism, perseverance and joy,” says Queer Screen’s Programming & Industry Manager Andrew Wilkie.
“This is an opportunity for us to come together to not only celebrate the progress LGBTIQ+ people have made and the opportunities we have to live our lives openly and authentically, but also unite against the ongoing struggles facing our community, both abroad and right here in Australia.”
The special Pride Month event begins at 11.30am when Leichhardt Town Hall will be taken over by community market stalls from local LGBTQIA+ community organisations and businesses, as well as local food vendors.
Heightened Scrutiny’s Australian premiere
The highlight of the event will be the Australian premiere of the documentary Heightened Scrutiny by award winning director Sam Feder (Disclosure), which just screened at the Sundance Film Festival.
The film explores the spread of anti-trans disinformation in recent years and its devastating real world impacts, and includes interviews with prominent trans Americans including actors Elliot Page and Laverne Cox, and ACLU attorney Chase Strangio who was the first out trans person to argue a case before the US Supreme Court.
The screening of Heightened Scrutiny will begin at 1.30pm and will be followed by a panel discussion with #TransEquality Chair Teddy Cook and Trans Justice Project Director Jackie Turner that will explore the issue closer to home.
International and Australian short films
Then from 4pm enjoy Out & Proud Shorts, a selection of audience favourite short films from this year’s Mardi Gras Film Festival.
Dragfox stars Sir Ian McKellen. Image: supplied.
International shorts include animated gem Dragfox, starring Ian McKellen as the voice of a gender-affirming fox; One Day This Kid, about an Afghan Canadian coming to terms with his sexuality; Is Gay Marriage Next?, an exploration of the impact a magazine cover had on director Emily Clark; Skin, exposing the inner struggle to accept one’s gender identity; and Really Good Driver featuring Keiko Agena (Gilmore Girls) as a mum trying to connect with her adult queer child.
They’re joined by two Australian films and 2025 My Queer Career winners, Die Bully Die by Nathan Lacey and Nick Lacey, about a gay man finally confronting his high school bully seventeen years later; and With Love, Lottie by Lily Drummond, about a disabled queer navigating the world of dating.
The day of screenings will finish with a Queer Comedy Shorts Screening – a selection of comedy shorts that will have you rolling in the isles.
This package of films includes two local shorts: Single by Tilly Robba and Steph Jowett, about a group of Inner West housemates bamboozling their way through a kaleidoscope of psychedelic romantic encounters; and Why Not Both? by Mansoor Noor, about a bi man’s dilemma when the man and woman he’s dating seem a bit too similar.
Canadian short Gender Reveal. Photo: supplied.
They’re joined by international titles ILY, BYE starring Megan Stalter (Hacks); winner of the 2023 Queer Screen Film Fest Audience Award, 100% USDA Certified Organic Homemade Tofu by Gbenga Komolafe; laugh-out-loud Canadian comedy Gender Reveal; an ode to new beginnings at any age, First Date; the bawdy laughs of cruising comedy Foraging, and F**KED by Sara Harrak, showing an unexpected conversation sparked by a lesbian couple opening their marriage.
All screenings are free to attend, but registration is strongly encouraged due to limited capacity at the venue. -For more information go to queerscreen.org.au
