Will's Queerness is the Emotional Heart of Stranger Things
I heard a bunch of people claim that Will's character was only made gay because of public pressure or because Noah came out. What show are these people watching? Let's look at the themes of each season and Will's place in them.
In Season One, Joyce tells Hopper that Lonney used to call Will a queer and a fag. His bullies called him a fairy. He spends the season "hiding" in the "upside down" and is "pulled out" due to the love of his friends and family. The rest of his friends are also a bunch of misfits from different marginalized groups who get bullied. One of the show's main themes is clearly tolerance for difference and finding safe spaces (castle byers as a metaphor) where you can be yourself with the people you love. Will's queerness here is mainly subtext but that is going to gradually change over the course of the show.
In season two, Will gets "violated" and "penetrated" by an "other worldly creature" outside of his control. It happens near the anniversary of the trauma caused by the previous season. It causes him to become isolated and depressed to the point where it nearly takes him over. Metaphorically speaking, many gay kids go through trauma and develop depression as a result. To break him out of his trance, Will's mother tells him a story about how his drawing of a rainbow ship (not so subtle Duffers) makes her proud, and his best friend, who Will shares numerous intimate moments with throughout the season, tells Will that asking him to be his friend is the best thing he has ever done. This is what snaps him out of the trance. Clearly, this is a metaphor for how many queer individuals suffer from trauma due to their past history of being abused, and how, once again, through the love of family and friends, they can escape the throughs of depression....Also, Will hesitates at the end of the season when a girl asks him to dance, so if you are looking for something that isn't subtext, there you go.
In season three, the theme is the terror and shame experienced when going through puberty, and for Will, he experiences it as a gay kid in the closet. All his friends get a girlfriend, and he doesn't due to his sexuality, which is clearly making him depressed. His friends are spending more time on girls and less time with himself. He retreats into DnD in the desperate hopes of keeping his friend group intact. More specifically, he doesn't want to lose the person he loves: Mike. This leads to a confrontation with his best friend who tells him "it's not my fault you don't like girls", which sends Will into a nervous breakdown as he destroys Castle Byers, aka, his "safe space". Once him and his friends sense the danger of this oncoming monster though--the monster here also being a metaphor for puberty--and what it can do their friendship, they band together to destroy it. Will and Mike make up with each other at the end of the season as Will tells him it was never about the DnD but it was really about spending time with Mike. Mike smiles back. The theme: don't let puberty, societal expectations, and relationships destroy relationships with the people you love...And if we are looking for something that isn't subtext related, Will spends the entire season in the gayest pair of shorts known to mankind and is disgusted by the idea of getting a girlfriend, which he refers to as "gross".
In season four, Will's experience as a queer kid continues its journey out of subtext and moves more closely to text. Will does a project on Alan Turing, a gay computer scientist that was forcibly castrated and committed suicide. Will makes a painting for Mike, his best friend for who he loves, by drawing him as a hero with a heart on his shield. He becomes devastated when Mike doesn't hug him at the airport or pay attention to him, and they get into a fight over it. They then have several heart-to-heart talks where they make up. It is clear in these conversations that Will is head over heels in love with Mike Wheeler. Towards the end of the season, Will gives his painting to Mike in veiled love confession where he clearly uses El, Mike's girlfriend and his sister who are dating, as a cover for his own feelings. Will is clearly heart broken. His brother tells him later in the season, without directly saying it, that he knows he is gay and will always be loved. Will's depression stems from his inability to live as his true self. As Eddie said earlier in the season "Conformity is what is killing the kids". Since Season Four is really only half a season despite its extensive length, we will have to see how these themes play out in season five, but I have to imagine it is going to end up, at the very least, with Will coming out, his friends and family accepting him with love, and maybe even reciprocity from his love interest.
Sixth months after Season 4 came out, Noah Schnapp came out. Oddly enough, Noah Schnapp did so, in part, because it was Stranger Things that inspired him to do so. It was not the other way around. He was inspired by Will's story.
How people can miss these plot points or the major themes of Stranger Things blows my mind. This is queer story about love and acceptance masquerading as a horror and science fiction story.

TWST Agere AU - Headspace Classifications
These are my thoughts on how each character would be categorised in my classification AU! These are just a quick idea of how I see everyone - and I'll be including post-overblot changes in categorisation as well.
I'd be happy to write stuff about any combination of characters with any dynamic if anyone has anything they'd like to request! (e.g. Little Cater with CG Riddle, or Little Ruggie and Little Jack playing together etc.)
The four categories I like to use are Littles, Caregivers, Babysitters, and Neutrals. Some people may fit into multiple categories, which is most common for babysitters.
Littles - self explanatory, this category is for those who experience age regression/are more likely to age regression and likely need to do so for the sake of their mental health. They can take headspace suppressants for help during day-to-day life, however using suppressants for long stretches of time without regressing can cause headaches, migraines, severe stress, and lead to a stress-induced regression which is an unpleasant experience for the little.
Caregivers - people with instincts that drive them to look after others - especially littles. These individuals can sometimes be seen as 'mother hens' and often pair with littles so that they can keep them safe and provide what they need while the little is in a regressed headspace. They can be especially helpful for younger littles who may struggle to do things on their own due to their headspace (e.g. 0-6 year old headspaces)
Babysitters - similar to Caregivers, but their instincts aren't as strong, and they're far less likely to bond particularly strongly with any littles. They do still provide support and an extra pair of hands for looking after littles, but they are more likely to burn out if they take on the responsibility of caregiving on their own. Babysitters may also regress to a younger headspace when spending time with and playing with littles - although they more commonly regress to older headspaces (e.g. 12-14)
Neutrals - Can refer to those who haven't been categorised yet (e.g. children under 16) or adults who don't experience instincts for regression or caregiving. They can still contribute in caregiving or receiving care, but won't feel any particular instinctive draws to do so. While less common than Littles, Caregivers, and babysitters they do still exist.
Heartslabyul
Riddle Rosehearts
Neutral (pre-OB) → Little (age 1-4)(post-OB)
I feel like Riddle would start out as a neutral classification, as his development of his classification may be postponed by the stress of studying all the time, along with the feeling of a lack of safety that he might have experienced when growing up (feeling too unsafe to regress or to display caregiving instincts.)
This would carry through until his overblot, where the experience of being overwhelmed by his bottled-up emotions would send him careening straight into a regressed headspace as soon as he wakes up. He tends to regress to a younger age, particularly when he's stressed, and still shows signs of anxiety unless reassured by a trusted caregiver (usually Trey)
Riddle will likely stock some belongings for himself to use whe he regresses at NRC (such as pacifiers or toys that he likes) but may choose to make use of suppresants when he returns home during holidays due to feeling unsafe regressing around his mother unless her treatment of him changes and improves. As a little, I can see him being very rules-oriented and tattling or rulebreakers to the nearest caregiver. He also thrives on having a schedule to rely on, and would likely try to regress at certain times of the day instead of when he feels like it.
Trey Clover
Caregiver
A bit of a basic choice, but I feel like it suits him and the role he plays in his dorm - especially for Riddle. He's a safe person for all of Heartslabyul before Riddle's Overblot, helping ease tensions and placate Riddle in order to make adjusting to being in Heartslabyul easier for new dorm members. He'd make a reliable caregiver for members of his dorm, and would be ble to encourage other caregivers to help the littles where they can.
He is the go-to guy for littles from Heartslabyul who might need help finding their usual caregivers, or for ones who want a sweet treat while they're in their headspace (he just can't say no to them.) He'd likely become Riddle's main Caregiver after the Overblot, along with any of the other main Heartslabyul guys who might want him as their Caregiver.
Cater Diamond
Babysitter + Little (age 6-8)
I feel like Cater would fit multiple categories at once - while he isn't as comfortable in the role of Caregiver as Trey, I do believe that he would help a lot with caring for the Littles of Heartslabyul when Trey needs an extra pair of hands (or three) by using his clones. He's wonderful with entertaining littles and keeping them happy, but doesn't feel the same drive to care for them as strongly as caregivers do - hence Cater fitting into the role of babysitter.
I also like to HC that he's a more independent little - preferring to handle his regression alone rather than having a caregiver with him - mostly due to his difficulties with the feeling of abandonment. He's only really comfortable when around other littles, babysitters, or neutrals when in littlespace. The best bet fir a caregiver getting close to Cater would be someone who's less energetic who may want to let him do things at his own pace instead of suggesting and pushing activities at him, like I HC his sisters to have done during his childhood.
Ace Trappola
Little (age 4-6)
I feel like Ace's classification would emerge when he's finally able to calm down in the aftermath of Riddle's overblot. Between the stress of what happened, the sight of people he's grown to care about hurt, and Deuce's own drop into littlespace. The initial regression would have been startling to everyone, especially himself, and I can see him sticking close to Yuu intil he felt safe enough to calm down.
I can see him as a more rambunctious little, likely to get into trouble and argue with caregivers when he's overtired or hungry. But he's also immensely lovable regardless of what trouble he causes. He'd have a penchant for getting into arguments with Deuce when they're both regressed together, and may sometimes be tattled on by Riddle, but positive reinforcement can make him preen at the attention he recieves. If a caregiver is patient enough with him and finds ways to satisfy his curiosity and wants without causing shenanigans, then chances are He'll follow them around like a duckling.
Deuce Spade
Little (age 2-4)
Similarly to Ace, Deuce would first experience slipping into his little headspace in the aftermath of Riddle's overblot - especially if we consider that in the manga's depiction of the fight he believes that Cater dies protecting him for a moment before Cater reveals that it was his UM. That fear would have Deuce clinging to Cater in a stress-induced regression.
I'd see him as a more calm, potentially clingy little (especially factoring in his first regression) and is much quieter than Ace. Stressful situations, like preparing for exams or trying to do particularly difficult homework can lead to Deuce slipping into littlespace - so he may take low intensity suppresants to get through times that require his focus.
Savannaclaw
Leona Kingscholar
Babysitter → Babysitter + Little (age 6-7)
Leona strikes me as the type to be a good caregiver/protector but is hesitant to form a more solid bond that may be seen between caregivers and littles - hence the babysitter categorisation. He can handle littles quite easily - with his 'kids adore him' trait extending to littles - but tends to be more hands-off with keeping an eye on them and preferring to have a more active caregiver handling them.
After his overblot, he may sometimes find himself experiencing age regression due to the effects of blot and stress on his mind and body. When regressed, he finds that he has more enegry and is more motivated to participate in physical activities and prefers rough play - like play wrestling, tag, or similar games.
Ruggie Bucchi
Caregiver + Little (Age 8-9)
I was torn between caregiver and Babysitter for Ruggie, but I feel like between the way he looks after the people back home by bringing food with him from NRC for the holidays, and how he seems like a reliable upperclassman from what I know of him, Ruggie would suit the title of caregiver pretty well.
He'd be less likely to be drawn to help any little - needing to grow fmailiar with someone before he offers to
Jack Howl
Caregiver
Octavinelle
Azul Ashengrotto
Babysitter (pre-OB) → Babysitter + Little (age 4-6)(post-OB)
Jade Leech
Little (age 4-6)
Floyd Leech
Caregiver
Scarabia
Kalim Al-Asim
Caregiver
Jamil Viper
Little (suppressed)(pre-OB) → little (age 6-8)(post-OB)
In Jamil's case, I feel like he would feel pressured to use suppresants for his classification due to his position working for the Asim family. This would probably cause some issues like brain fog for him, but he would push through it and force himself to keep going while hiding his classificaiton.
Post-overblot, it would probably be deemed dangerout for him to use the supressants as excessively as he did previously. He'd still do his best be somewhat independent when in littlespace due to how he grew up, and likely wouldn't want Kalim to be his caregiver because of his complicated feelings about him. When he feels more comfortable though, he tends to be quite competitive and much more likely to let himself win and be louder about his own needs and wants.
Pomefiore
Vil Schoenheit
Caregiver (pre-OB) → Caregiver + Little (age 4-6)(post-OB)
Rook Hunt
Neutral
Rook is an enigma, I don't think he would behave in a certain way because of instinct - but instead out of choice.
He would be the go-to assistant for any caregivers in pomefiore who may have trouble with appeasing a little or matching their energy in a game of chase or something. Ultimately, he's still happy to spend time with someone in a little headspace in order to provide safety and suport - he just isn't driven to do so by instincts.
Epel Felmier
Caregiver OR Little (age 7-9)
I cannot, for the life of me, choose between Caregiver and little for Epel.
On one hand, I feel like Epel would work really well as a caregiver - being more of the rough-and-tumble type who is willing to play games of chase or play-fight with older littles. Plus, he'd have fun stories that his grammy would've told him that he could tell to any littles under his care.
However, Epel would also work well as a little. He'd be the type to insist on playing outside in the mud, running around and even being a bit bratty when Vil or Rook try to get him to settle down a bit.
Ignihyde
Idia Shroud
Little (age 8-10)(pre-OB) → Little (age 0-8)(post-OB)
Ortho Shroud
Neutral (pre-OB) → Caregiver (post-OB)
Diasomnia
Malleus Draconia
Neutral (pre-OB) → Little (age 4-6)(post-OB)
Lilia Vanrogue
Neutral (pre-fatherhood) → Caregiver (post-fatherhood) I feel that the development of a caregiver classification could be potentially triggered by becoming a parent (with this occurrence being much more common in the case of adoption) so upon taking Malleus, and later Silver, under his wing Lilia would grow into a more instinctively protective individual.
Silver Vanrogue
Babysitter
Sebek Zigvolt
Little (age 6-8)

ShortBox Comics Member Interview: Seosamh Dáire
Throughout the month of October, the Cartoonist Cooperative will be sharing interviews with members of the Co-op who have a new comic available at the ShortBox Comics Fair 2024!
NOTE: The Cartoonist Cooperative is not affiliated, associated, authorized, endorsed by, or in any way formally connected with ShortBox.
Today’s spotlight is Seosamh Dáire ( @saint_vagrant ) and their new comic for ShortBox, THE SOLAR SYSTEM.
We’d love it if you could introduce yourself and tell us about your background in comics.
Seosamh Dáire: Hey thanks for having me! I’m Seosamh Dáire, aka Joe (him/sé.) i have a BFA in Illustration, but more importantly I made a 200-page comic when I was 13 about fantasy angels, and after all that work, dropped it unceremoniously when I realised it wasn’t gay enough. So i’ve been filling the void ever since. Ironically, part of filling the void necessitates making comics about holes, like mine and my partner Anka’s ongoing sci-fi story SUPERPOSE. Recently I was part of the Ignatz-nominated HOME anthology, a collection of autobiographical comics about being of or in Ireland. My work is largely targeted toward mature readers, and last year I made the short 18+ comics TERESIAN for the Noah’s Ark anthology and OSHA VIOLATION (just for fun) and contributed illustrations to the BOOK OF SHADOWS anthologies.
I’ve been making little comics for most of my life, but now i make bigger comics. SUPERPOSE launched in 2016 so even if the clock started at that moment, I’ve been at it for a minute.
Tell us more about your new comic?
SD: Told in a little over 100 black and white pages, THE SOLAR SYSTEM is a trans/anti-military/sci-fi comic set in four timelines. There is Jack, equal parts soldier and experiment, and his mother and father, at odds with what they have made. He meets Nour, a displaced prodigy sniper, an intended footnote in the list of consequences of his parents’ work. With Jack as a vassal and Nour a resistance soldier, they find each other on opposite sides every time in a fight over the control of a superweapon, whose detonation puts the timelines into motion.
Tell us about your creative process; how did you develop this comic and what are the steps you took to bring it to the final stage?
SD: As with most of my work, I got smacked over the head with the frying pan of an idea and immediately went for it. There were some loose concepts floating around prior, but my acceptance to the fair gave me an excuse to solidify it. I wrote (plotted out, scripted) three different versions—I like each one tremendously. THE SOLAR SYSTEM is the third pass, and actually incorporates aspects of that process in the story itself by way of distinct but interconnected parts. the format also took a lot of concentration, as it’s all interwoven, and while not linear, i wanted each next thing to unfold naturally from the last.
The development of the story held all my focus, whereas art was less of a concern since I didn’t expect to draw in a different style, but rather make myself comfortable with a different level of finish, and confined myself to only a couple select tools to accomplish this. It’s the first comic I’ve made using Clip Studio, drawn straight into it without using anything other than a few modified brushes. Then I finished (text/dialogue, any extra painting or effects) in Photoshop.
I value the time I spend fleshing out each character regardless of how much they feature—how they move and how talk, their idiosyncrasies, are all so vivid to me and finding a way to make that as real to a reader as it is to me is part of the fun. I love challenging myself with “what if?” or “if x then y” and making connections that way, heightening the significance between elements, editing and cutting them together to build to each “aha, there it is” moment; I know it when I see it! Ultimately, even if the themes and ideas of the work aren’t identifiable at first, I care most about conveying emotion and that telling a story. Seeing a stranger cry and not knowing why can still stir you all the same. I do think the comic reveals more upon each return, though…
My comic did require a fair amount of research, which is something for which I enjoy any excuse to do. Starting off broadly helps me narrow with more intentionality, although it can get a bit overwhelming—there really is always more to know, and it takes me some time to find a solid place to settle. For reading, I revisited old and new writing/listening from Irish socialists as well as that in the Caucasus, and destabilisation by American interests, also referred to some surreal papers on combat tactics by American colonels which is unsettling stuff, but endlessly interesting.
I owe much inspiration to the IRA, PFLP, YPG/PKK, and Soviet partisans, among many others.
Do you have any creative rituals or routines to prepare yourself to make comics?
SD: As much as I seek out new resources, I return to the things I’ve always loved. It reminds me what drives me—I’m very emotionally, creatively satisfied even just by select moments within a larger work, such that I get something new out of the experience every time even if it doesn’t directly apply to the project. I rewatched Into The West, The Manchurian Candidate (2004 version), the Escaflowne film, Spriggan, Solaris, I watched Heat… and then rewatched the ending of Heat. Obsession is my ritual, really.
Read the rest of the interview HERE! And dont forget to check out the Shortbox Comics Fair to support these lovely creators!!

On Why We Keep Doing This
Reposted from a Reddit thread that asked some quality open questions.
… what brought you to this game or WoD in general? What are reasons that you keep playing VTM, despite its flaws?
It would be trite to say it was always going to happen, but - it sort of was. I was mainlining Fighting Fantasy books as a little 'un, I was a goth teen and a theatre kid - the confluence of influences was always there. Some lads at my secondary school played Werewolf at lunchtimes, one of them branched out into running some weird Kevin Smith fanfic game using Vampire's mechanics, and while that was terrible and ran for one session I had the Revised core book by then and thought I could do better. Also, this was a game that girls wanted to play. Girls who wore corsets. That was important too.
I think I keep playing because of the flaws. Media that's actually good, solid, nothing in particular to complain about, doesn't inspire me. Flawed gems make me want to turn them over and examine them and figure out how they work, how I'd do things differently and (in an ideal world, by my own standards, with the resources I now have at my disposal) better. Also, the girls are still here. We're all aged-out goths with bad knees, but by god, we can still pretend to be vampires together.
… how do you "reconcile" with the 90s core of VTM, and the general themes of the gothic punk from that era, which is by and large no longer part of the modern zeitgeist?
There are a few answers to that.
The 1990s are just another historical setting, and I've always liked historical Vampire. Cut my teeth on Victorian Age, my most successful and long running games are mainly Dark Ages. The 1990s are a bit like now, but people still smoke and use phone boxes and have to look things up in books most of the time. It's the world I grew up in, and sometimes I miss it.
Also, I don't think millenarianism is quite played out yet. History isn't a straight line, it's a series of expanding cycles, more things happening in them but patterns tending to repeat themselves. Before the dust was settled on Tremere's corpse, @stained-glass-sphinx was running a VtM game with the pretext of "Gehenna's been and gone, not with a bang but with a whimper, the elders have vanished, what do you of the double-figure generations do now?" Doesn't that sound familiar?
Also also, what is a vampire if not a creature stuck in time? I've had it brought home to me with the experience of playing Santino, who's badass in a very specifically mid-1990s sense and cringe as fuck to anyone born this century. Trying to make him work on this platform showed me how quickly being an anachronism can set in.
… what do you think about the attempt to, for a lack of a better term, "modernize" VTM with it's 5th edition? Did it fail, succeed, or do a bit of both?
Pretty good. Revised still does some things better in how it teaches you to play and outlines the sects, but I reach back and check in and draw forward what I need and that's enough.
Mechanically, I'm very happy with V5: Hunger dice, Bane Severity, Discipline restructuring, Predator and Coterie Types, that's all good stuff. It feels like every player at my table is playing the same game now. Doing vampirism, i.e. eating blood while all your friends are dead, is an unskippable core loop of play. Characters are built together as part of coteries and they have a reason to be colleagues, if not friends. Clan curses are codified around a scaling system that ensures they're all relevant. Disciplines (mostly) work the same way and the unique powers are singular flourishes without padding.
It's not perfect. It's very obvious that four different development styles are at work, the game as a whole is not very clear about what a chronicle looks like, and the new core political conflict doesn't function because the Anarchs are a pitiful pastiche of a sect written by people who wouldn't know a successful revolution if it bit their throat out and spat down the hole. Some of the rules are overcooked - I'm looking at Domain Merits with their pretentious names and abstract applications, and the middle bits of Blood Potency like Rouse rerolls and bonus Discipline dice that just disappear because breaking a number down into five numbers and a statement ain't elegant.
It's been getting consistently better, though. Renegade's rules aren't perfect but at least they're focused and directed at actually playing a game. The Second Inquisition and the Sabbat give you antagonists with actual teeth. I'm liking the new trend of supplements that change up the game's genre rather than bloat it with "lore": Blood Sigils, Gehenna War and Blood Stained Love are all optional but transformative and I really appreciate them existing. I think V5's had its growing pains, but has finally figured itself out and is going to endure.

hi hi <333 i just wanted to say ive been lurkin around your profile prolly since 2021 and im so very happy to be able to see your style and characters develop over the years. your writing will forever be a comfort for me <33 i hope things are well 4 you, happy (very late) new year!!!!!
Hello dear friend,
goodness is that… wow, since the beginning? I have really lost track of time, has it really been four years since all of this started? That’s amazing, and very humbling… I am so glad my words have been able to reach your heart and be a comfort. Honestly, I am still amazed that I had the courage to close my eyes and click the post button that first day. Haha! That’s kind of like my ritual now, whenever I post a new story I tend to run away from Tumblr for a while. Too anxious to see if anyone enjoyed it, until a bit of time has passed. XD But yes, I am so glad this blog can be a place where you can lurk and just feel comfy. Comfort truly feels like something we desperately need as the state of the world continues to feel like it’s crumbling around us. Holding onto to whimsy and joy feels like a holding onto an elusive dream somedays. We hold on tight and try not to let it slip into obscurity come morning.
Thank you so much for reaching out, from the bottom of my heart, I really needed to read this. It really helped me ground and refocus heart and mind. Originally, I made this blog when I needed comfort, and I was really alone at the time. I was getting out of bad relationship that I shaped my whole world around, and we would role play all the time. I missed the comfort in that, I missed the stories and despite the whole heartache of it, I wanted to write again. This time, for me, and with the hope that others would enjoy it too. There was a time where I wasn’t sure if I could write or draw again. Which, whew! I am so glad I did. I met so many lovely and sweet people here. Many of my comments are anonymous and while I may not know you, or any of the others who have slipped mysterious letters under my door, I think we are tied together by our shared experiences. Our shared love of stories and loving the unknown and unseen, and holding a space for them in our hearts! I hope you are doing okay too, and yes! Happy New Year! Let’s do out best to make more lovely memories to look back on! ( ‘o u o )
Yours humbly (sending digital hugs as always 🫂)

Chaos Theory Primer
WHAT IS THIS:
An AU of an AU.
Once upon a time, I came up with a fighting game AU, where a bunch of series I like crossover. While this involves plenty of logistically questionable mechanics/character movesets, it also involves a story and Lore (TM)
Eventually, I decided to turn that fighting game AU into a story. As I am still on Act 1 of 3 and it’s been a year or two since the previous part, you can tell that that is going swimmingly. But, I got the idea for DLC for this AU. Eventually, as I picked up some new interests, and got deeper into the lore side of things, this escalated into what I like to call a “side B/Reverse-Side” of the AU: It’s still got the same fundamental key elements (with some new ones thrown in) but it’s gotten far beyond that: More SRW than fighting game, so to say.
Will I actually be writing this?
I dunno. I’ve got enough fics that I should be working on but aren’t. This project is just as much to unload the concepts in my head as it is to have it out there in some form. One could also argue that it’s also a bit much for a mediocre fanfic writer to handle.
If I get any particular ideas that I got an itch to write (I do have one idea in the wings, in fact) then I’ll definitely go for it.
But as is, think of this as more of a frame work. Maybe something akin to a TTRPG setting or something.
THE PLOT:
There is an overaching plot to Chaos Theory, as well as three different throughlines. Said throughlines aren’t fully thought out in regards to how they interact with the main plot so how it all shakes together at this point in time is… not too developed (cue AUs of an AU of an AU).
The overarching plotline revolves a mysterious space known as The Fantasy World or Minus World. This space twists and warps, creating new realms or shortcuts into existing ones. The result is a labyrinth, and later an “ocean” of structures such as shrines. This is due to the space being a hotbed for various types of energy, such as Star Power, Moon Power and especially Chaos Power.
Through some method, a warlock by the name of Xande found himself in the labyrinth. Seeking to recover his immortality, Xande began toying with the energies at play. While he was fruitless in directly making use of it, he came to understand the nature of the Chaos Emeralds, the Master Emerald and the space-time abilities of the rings. Thus, Xande began to experiment with the rings in hopes of drawing the emeralds to him.
Perhaps by fate, perhaps by coincidence, two parties found themselves within the labyrinth: The Warrior of Light, his four vassals and one of their allies, all of whom stood opposed to Xande previously, and an organization from the World of Darkness known as “World’s Eye” who bear similarities to the “Dark Cloud tribe”, a group of cloud-like aliens who control and corrupt planets, their callsign being their leader’s singular crimson eye.
However, not knowing of Xande’s presence, the two forces assumed that the other was up to some neferious plot. In the end, the Warriors of Light attempted to use Chaos Power against World’s Eye. However, it backfired and the four vanished. At the same time, five new structures arose in the Fantasy World: A treasure filled dungeon, a scholar castle, a lava-filled weapons forge, a manor atop a massive mountain range and a tower made of crystal, the lattermost of which creating a sea of light that makes entry towards it difficult, if not near impossible. One could also see massive airships flying around the space...
To make matters worse, Xande caught wind of his enemies being in the labyrinth and was able to secure biocells from them to create clones to search the world for anything useful. Mostof the clones are focused on their objectives, but other clones seem to be more self-interested. Then there are those that are so independent that it’s questionable if they came from Xande...
Time passes. Word soon spreads of the mysterious “Minus World”. Eventually it catches the attention of certain people. Some are explorers, such as Mag Launcher and Linear Cannon from Pannam Town or Rock Volnutt of the Skylands. It also catches the attention of power hungry people in high places, such as King Bowser of the Koopa Kingdom of Dr. Robotnik of the Eggman Empire. Some people enter for their own personal missions, such as Alex Kidd (& Stella!) of Radaxian, who enters in pursuit of the Bloom; A greedy star who has stolen the stars of planet Aeries. And finally, there are those who find themselves in the labyrinth purely by accident.
With so many people in such a place, chaos inevitably follows...
The three other plotlines/throughlines are as follows:
Plot A: A greedy Star known as the Bloom is absorbing all of the stars in the universe. When Planet Aries’ stars are absorbed, Alex and his good friend Stella set forth into the Fantasy World in order to stop it. But the Bloom isn’t the only villain who has their eyes to the stars…
Plot B: The age of Adventure is alive and well as all manner of diggers and adventurers strive to uncover the lost secrets of ancient civilizations. When the Launcher Clan (Mag Launcher and Linear Cannon) and Rock Volnutt find themselves in the labyrinth, they begin to discover a link between the ever present rings and Chaos Energy. Of course, while navigating the strange new world and unlocking the secrets, they’ll have to contend with ancient mechanisms, imperial forces and sky pirates and even secrets from their pasts...
Plot C: The odd interdimensional nature of the Labyrinth leads to some unforeseen results. When Kirby & Klonoa find themselves at an intersection between awakening and dreams, the two become fast friends. However, they quickly discover a threat that puts the dreams of all in jeopardy and the two set off to protect all good dreams everywhere. However, a certain Wizard is lurking in the shadows and is determined to make Klonoa’s greatest dream into a Nightmare of a reunion…
INVOLVED SERIES:
This rank has three categories to it; “Definitely” means that I envision it as a staple part of the AU. “Maybe” means that, had I been writing this for real, the series probably or probably not would’ve stayed. “Probably” just exists for the game that I want to include but haven’t actually played yet.
Definitely: Mario, Sonic, Kirby, Evolution/Evolutia, Mega Man**
Probably: Skies of Arcadia/Eternal Arcadia***
Probably Not: Pokemon, Legend of Zelda, Madou Monogatari* ***
* Probably the least likely on that list, but I’m putting it there anyway.
** The original AU this is based on had X as the Mega Man series in question. For Chaos Theory, it has been swapped to Mega Man Legends.
*** Have not played at the time of this writing.

is cursive actually slower? interesting
there's also a lot to be said about the developmental importance of cursive
cursive writing requires greater fine motor control than print, and practicing these skills at a young age helps to develop one's fine motor control. much like language learning, learning fine motor skills is infinitely easier at age four than it is at age twelve
conjecture from my own lived experience compared to some of my peers (I was exclusively taught to write in cursive, unlike most children my age): I have always had an easier time with spelling than most of my peers. I think that part of this comes from the fact that when writing in cursive each word is a single unit, rather than a collection of letters grouped together. this means that I write in words, rather than in letters if that makes sense? I don't have to think about the letters in each word as I write them, because the word as a whole is essentially it's own individual structure, rather like a chinese character might be.
back to fine motor control, children taught to write in cursive often have an easier time with tasks such as using scissors or cooking utensils, playing musical instruments, and drawing or painting (this is definitely not universal: while I'm fine with the first few, I suck at drawing in any form)
this fine motor control also provides benefits with tasks such as typing on a keyboard later down the line.
writing in cursive engages more areas of the brain than writing in print, and children taught to write in cursive show more development in the areas of the brain relating to language and memory than their print-writing peers
learning cursive is often included in treatment plans for dyslexia for some of the reasons listed above (learning to recognize the word as a whole, rather than a collection of letters, improved fine motor control, brain development related to language and understanding, etc) which can also be beneficial for all kids, not just the dyslexic ones
I have a lot of feelings about this, probably because I was only ever taught how to write in cursive (I figured out print for myself when I was thirteen years old or so, but had reverted back to cursive by the time I hit high school because I liked it better) but I believe that all kids should be taught cursive writing first, rather than print
I think it's also easier to learn print after learning cursive than it is to learn cursive after learning print.
thank you for reading my unplanned rant
On one hand I understand not teaching cursive in school anymore, because it actually is slower than regular handwriting and almost everything is typed on a keyboard now anyways.
On the other hand, so much of our (even recent!) history was written in cursive, and having a whole generation of kids who can't read letters written by their grandparents, momentos saved by their great-grandparents, or even photo albums from theur immediate family seems like a dangerously quick way to detach us from previous generations.
And on the third, related but slightly malformed hand, I feel bad that yet another form of small, everyday art that brings joy in the middle of mundane tasks, which celebrates personality and individual style and self-expression, is about to fade into obscurity because it wasn't efficient enough for today's world to put up with.
Like... if we continue to whittle away the small arts out of every day life, what's going to be left except stark, ruthless pragmatism?
Maybe writing a grocery list is less mundane when you get to feel elegant for a moment. Maybe you're a little more proud of what you write when you see it flow together like a painting

What board games teach children?
In a world filled with apps, screens, and digital entertainment, board games offer something refreshingly timeless: hands-on, face-to-face fun that’s also full of hidden learning opportunities. For children especially, board games are more than just a way to pass the time—they’re powerful tools for development.
So what exactly do board games teach children? The answer might surprise you—it’s more than just how to win or lose. Let’s explore the skills and life lessons kids pick up every time they sit down to play.
Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Many board games require players to make decisions, analyze consequences, and plan ahead. Whether it’s strategizing in Connect Four or figuring out a mystery in Clue Junior, kids are constantly using their brains in new ways.
They learn:
Logical reasoning
Cause and effect
Strategic thinking
Planning and decision-making
These skills lay the groundwork for academic success—and real-life challenges too.
Communication and Social Skills Board games are naturally interactive. Kids learn to listen, explain, negotiate, and express themselves clearly—all while having fun.
They practice:
Taking turns and following rules
Asking questions and giving instructions
Using polite language and active listening
Respecting others’ ideas and actions
These skills help kids build stronger friendships and communicate with confidence.
Emotional Intelligence and Resilience Not every game ends in a win—and that’s a good thing. Board games gently teach children how to cope with frustration, manage emotions, and bounce back after a loss.
They experience:
Patience and self-control
Handling disappointment
Celebrating others’ success
Learning from mistakes
Emotional regulation is one of the most important life skills—and games offer a safe space to develop it.
Teamwork and Cooperation Cooperative games like Outfoxed! or Forbidden Island teach kids the value of working together instead of against each other.
They develop:
Shared problem-solving
Trust and collaboration
Supporting teammates
Sharing leadership roles
These lessons help kids succeed in group settings—from classrooms to sports teams and beyond.
Math and Literacy Skills Many games sneak in academic concepts without kids even realizing they’re learning. Counting, reading, spelling, and simple calculations come up in all kinds of games—from Uno to Scrabble Junior.
Kids practice:
Number recognition and counting
Basic arithmetic and money skills
Word recognition and spelling
Following multi-step instructions
Learning through play is one of the most effective (and fun!) teaching tools out there.
Creativity and Imagination Some games, especially storytelling or role-playing ones, allow kids to invent characters, make up stories, and explore ideas freely.
These games foster:
Creativity and expression
Imaginative thinking
Storytelling skills
Artistic expression (in games with drawing or building elements)
Board games can spark a love for storytelling, design, and innovation.
Play with Purpose The next time your child pulls a board game off the shelf, remember: they’re not just playing. They’re learning, growing, and developing a whole toolbox of life skills—without even knowing it.
From math and reading to empathy and cooperation, board games are mini-classrooms wrapped in fun.
So go ahead—join them for a round. Because when kids play, they’re preparing for the world.

I like you’re shadow and jolt comic giving me insperstion to create my own comic with my oc and shadow tbh I pictured my oc and shadow doing the same as shadow and jolt which is giving me courage to do my own comic with them fancomic obviously but do you have any tips on how development of a comic would work how long did it take for you to plan the comic
I've been working on this comic for about five years this coming November. From the start of developing the story to when the first comics were posted, it was about a three or four month long period of early development.
To be honest, I'm never NOT developing the comic. Each update is sort of treated as a self-contained session and while I have a plan of how everything connects, you don't really know how it'll actually work out until you're making the pages themselves and piecing the puzzle pieces together to make it all coherent. If you go to my Patreon, you'll see all the raw, first drafts of my comics and how much they changed in the final pages.
The following are my personal tips but I highly recommend also reading this post by the creator of Lackadaisy on the same subject. I followed her example for my work a lot and thankfully she's open about her secrets. :)
Tip #1: Know what your End Goal is for your comic
A lot of eager hopefuls start with a strong passion for their stories and it seems clear in your head how it will pan out. Over time, your interest starts to dwindle, passion is replaced with procrastination, writer's block occurs and you wonder why this thing you loved so much has become a total chore.
This is often due to not knowing the overall POINT to making your comic at all. What's the theme? The message? What do you and your audience GET out of it?
Shadow and Jolt has a clear progression and ending in mind that all relates to the Themes and Messages I want to impart to my readers. Try dissecting your favorite Sonic stories (or any story in general) and analyze why you like them and what made them impactful to you. Determine their themes and messages then observe how each part of the story, character arcs and such were written to serve them. What were the creators trying to tell you or make you experience?
That's the difference between a story with intention versus one that's confused or directionless. Because even during writer's block, if you know what message you're trying to tell, it gives you a lighthouse to paddle towards and keep you from getting lost in the ocean of vague notions.
Tip #2: Script It Out!
Before I ever drew a single comic for Shadow and Jolt, the first thing I did to help me develop a more solid plan was to write scripts. Some were fully realized with dialogue and action sequences. Others were outlines to help me see the full picture from beginning to end.
I've written over 30 different scripts. Many are just a few pages each but some are about 50+ pages.
And guess what? Every single one of them STINK.
These are not my best work because they don't need to be. They're meant for playing around with character dialogues, motivations, relationships and manner of speech. If a script resonates with me enough, I'll try doing a draft of it in comic form to see how it feels on paper and continue tweaking things from there. It was such a horribly cliche story at first but it's ok because to determine what's wrong, I need to see it actually in front of me and not as some ethereal mess of images in my mind.
Tip #3: Gather, Research and Conceptualize
I cannot stress enough how much doing this has helped with this project.
References I used included the games I liked the most, their production history, interviews with Sonic Team, compiled images/inspirations I found around the internet, etc. I used all this material to strengthen the ideas I had so I could start drawing concepts.
Characters, vehicles, environments.... everything and anything gets concepts. Lots of sketches, sometimes with color. I've possibly gone through almost 10+ sketchbooks for just Shadow and Jolt alone. There were a lot of things that needed testing and fleshing out, especially because it's such a big project. (and I'm just one little ol' me ;-;)
From the beginning, the plan was that Shadow and Jolt would be based on the games so my research was spent digging into the entire timeline and reminding myself of what the games are about and how to capture their essence as close as I can. I'm not sure what setting you plan to base this story on but you'll have a different set of research to do if you plan to include things from something else like Archie, Boom or whatever.
Tip #4: BEWARE SCOPE CREEP
In game development, teams start by deciding on the full scope of the project and settle on what's going to be in the game. The team makes projections on how long it'll take to complete it, set deadlines and then move to act on it.
A few weeks into production, maybe you decide to add a new animated action for the main character. Maybe then you add in a new weapon that will require another full move set to program and animate. Maybe you want to add a new character that you came up with during lunch. Maybe you have a whole extra side quest that adds a whole new plot point that adds even MORE characters who all have unique functions and animations you'll have to make-
See how quickly that can happen? That's scope creep. You start adding way more than was initially planned, thus it ends up extending the time it takes to actually finish the project.
Obviously, it's less dire than a product meant for sale but the lessons are the same. With any changes you make, be mindful of how that's going to effect you getting the story done and if it even really adds anything to your End Goal.
Remember, you only have so much energy in a given day to dedicate to your comic. Manage it wisely!
Tip #5: Live life!
This is a bit of an odd one maybe but for me at least, it's super valuable.
I've mentioned in previous posts how real world experiences helped inspire my comic. Part of what makes Sonic's world feel so lived in is the dedication the team put into making each level feel that way! Sonic Unleashed is maybe the best example of this point. I feel that Sonic was made by people who not only wanted to make a fun game series but who use it to celebrate the actual act of adventure. Living life, seeing new sights, meeting new people, eating unique cuisine, you catch my drift!
Some of my best ideas came from having a lived experience. You won't be able to write authentic stories staying in a bubble of your own making. Outside of my fancomic, I like going on long walks, exploring places or simply hanging out with my friends. So my final suggestion for you is to live a full life and be inspired by it! Nothing beats reality anyway. :)

I'll take the Moon Knight fandom :> (I do not know the whole laura of star wars and so on(((.)
1. the most beloved ship: MARC/JAKE, i love them so much❤️❤️ but the development of their relationship seems a little sad, if you follow the plot that I usually imagine
2. most annoying ship: I think I don't have it, only I don't quite understand some ships with Harrow, but it's interesting
3. second favourite ship: Jake/Steven Oh my God, they're so cute, I just can't resist, I like the contrast
4. favourite platonic relationship: I think Mark and Steven are right for me here, sometimes it can be Mark/Jake, but still it seems to me that if there is Jake, it can't do without something obscene
5. underrated ship: Marc/Jake🥲 I hardly ever meet people who would love them as much as I do, even there are few arts, I would like to find a friend who would love them and would listen to all my theories and plots, perhaps would love role-playing
6. overrated ship: i can't say ... the couple of Mark and Steven are very popular, but I can't say that they are overrated, just popular
7. one thing i would change in canon: would add more Jake to screen time!!!
I want to admire him more than in moments of fleeting mentions or scenes after the credits. I also think it would be nice if more interactions between Mark and Layla were shown and revealed. What happened in the past and what are they going to do with their relationship in the future, have they reconciled or not?
8. something canon did right: how they revealed the inner experiences of Mark Spector, I really liked these series(this is what happened in the hospital and moments from his childhood), and also correctly showed the character and images of all three personalities
And the villain, yes, he is wonderful
9. a thing i'm proud of creating for the fandom PLEASE BRAG ABOUT YOURSELF I WANT TO SEE/READ YOUR ART: I'm drawing!!!(人*´∀`)。*゚+ and I do it often!! there are my works in the profile, also, sometimes, I do audio/asmr on the subject of characters, but I don't post it yet. But most of all I want to pay attention to my art ಥ‿ಥ♡
I'm just starting to blog, but I already have a lot of ideas about what I should do! I think I'll share it soon
10. a character who is perfect to me (wouldn't change a thing): Oh, of course Jake!♡ I love him with all my heart. Foro me personally he is a wonderful character!!
11. the character i relate to the most and why: hera, four reasons: Uh, all three of them? I behave like Stephen almost 90% of the time, I stutter, I'm shy and treat everyone with great kindness, but sometimes, in the presence of my friends, Jake seems to inhabit me and I begin to behave very boldly, even my voice and laughter change to a similar manner to him. but there are also moments when I get very tired and behave restrained, but sullen, just like Mark, I feel a little ashamed of it, because I might accidentally offend someone, but Stephen comes back pretty quickly, hehe!
12. character(-s) i hate the most and why: Oh, no, I don't think I have any, I love everyone, all the characters are very interesting and deep!
13. something i've learned from the fandom: I think, don't ignore your problems and trust yourself, keep the moment until he runs away and do what you want at the moment!
14. three tags i seek out on ao3: what is it?🥲
15. a song i strongly associate with my op/favourite character: omg I'm a music lover, there are a lot of them ಥ‿ಥ
But... there are a couple of special ones, these are: "Saxyback - Justin Timberlake " and "we belong together - ritchie valens "
Of course it's Jake :)
There are many more songs, I think I will somehow insert them into my posts
I'm not sure if I wrote everything I wanted, but I'll leave it like that for now, it was interesting!
@melodygatesauthor I think it will be interesting for you to read this, perhaps you will learn something new about me! ♡
(my English is bad, so I apologize to anyone who reads this)
thanks for the tag @idontgetanysleep this is so much fun (english is not my first lenguage so i apologize for any mistakes i make)
1. ride or die ship (your otp): kanera, they're healthy AND tragic what else would u want
2. most annoying ship: reylo, rexsoka, obikin, anakin + ahsoka and clone + clone, i just can't
3. second favourite ship: chopper + crime they're so <3 (i'm kidding it's obitine cause i like the banter)
4. favourite platonic relationship: i'm obssessed with the found family trope so every family/sibling relationship, especially the ghost crew, the domino twins and the bad batch INCLUDING crosshair (also asajj and obi wan but in a funny way cause the amount of time they flirt is ridiculous)
5. underrated ship: bail x breha they love each other sm and raised their girl SO WELL
6. overrated ship: i can't say
7. one thing i would change in canon: padmé and satine not being mentioned in the newest shows, when they were so important and did so much for their people
8. something canon did right: the entirety of rebels, it's so well done it's perfect
9. a thing i'm proud of creating for the fandom PLEASE BRAG ABOUT YOURSELF I WANT TO SEE/READ YOUR ART: i can't draw to save my live and i'm bad at designing, i have many ideas to write but i lack inspiraton, but i'm always happy to read and reblog everything i see cause people here are talented
10. a character who is perfect to me (wouldn't change a thing): every clone, ahsoka, plo koon, satine and everyone in the ghost crew
11. the character i relate to the most and why: hera, four reasons: i like to advocate and fight for the things i belive in, i always end up adopting my friends, i'm also working on some issues with my father even tho i'm exactly like him and the most important one i would (i already have) fall completly in love with kanan (i wouldn't be so cool about it but that's why hera is perfect and i'm not)
12. character(-s) i hate the most and why: i viscerally hate palpatine, krell, governor pryce, the troopers that punched grogu and the zygerrians and hutts (they are slavers and i hate them)
13. something i've learned from the fandom: NEVER pay attention to the haters, it'll only make you miserable cause they already are
14. three tags i seek out on ao3: i don’t use ao3 like that, normally i find fics here or twitter and then click the link
15. a song i strongly associate with my op/favourite character: i don't have a favorite character but the one i'm currently obssessed with is Ezra and the song is Vienna by Billy Joel (mainly bc i like to imagine hera singing the song to him)
tags: @r-2-peepoo @purplezombietumbler @starwarsbean @kyber-kat @plan-of-dissent
it's ok if you don't participate :)

We are just a couple of dudes who want to work on a project. Beyond that, we have little experience with creating games, but have been best friends for over four years -- if anyone can figure it out together, it's us.
WHERE CAN I PLAY?
HEXED! is currently in development. There are only two developers working on this project at the moment and both are full-time employees elsewhere, and as such we cannot dedicate our full days to it, merely our free time.
HOW FAR ALONG IS DEVELOPMENT?
Currently, all character concepts as well as basic plot outlines are completed, and the main hurdle is writing the various routes individually.
WHAT ENGINE ARE YOU USING?
We will be using Renpy as our engine and have experience with coding, and Python specifically. We hope that once writing is completed, a working demo will come soon after.
CAN I ____?
Short answer: Probably. Draw the guys. Write about them. Share headcanons, fanworks, selfships, and whatever else you may want; and tag us in it, we'd love to see! Just please be respectful of the characters' pronouns, race, and preferences in doing so - Erasure is not cool.
If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to shoot us an ask detailing it.

Word Count: 3.6K
A/N: I REPEAT - SEASON 4 SPOILERS!!! Okay, so basically in this, you replace Hange in the little ride that she, Floch, and the rest of his little group takes out into the wilderness when they end up finding the remnants of the cart explosion. This also means you find out what happens to Levi (poor bby). I hope you enjoy, I had a lovely time writing this!
To put it simply, you were pissed off. If anyone could do a deep dive into your brain, navigate your nervous systems, and land themselves straight into your amygdala, they would find out just how livid you are. Being betrayed by your comrades was one thing. You’ve seen corruption in the military before whether it be in the Military Police or in the Garrison, so you knew it was only a matter of time that a seed of deceit sprouted within the Scout Regiment. However, you didn’t think that there would be so many to purposely go against their oath and betray the core values and people who helped the Scouts become who they were. But the real kicker was that you and Hange, two of the highest ranking people in the regiment, were being led out by gunpoint by Floch. As one of the last remaining captains of the Scouts, you were almost humiliated at the thought of cadets technically holding your life in their hands as the group of you rode on horseback.
“Move along Y/N, we don’t have all day.” Floch said. You didn’t have to turn your head to see the power hungry grin donning the red head’s face. Instead, you scoffed and moved one of your hands up to tug the hood of your cape lower over your face. The rain was pelting your back relentlessly and you shuddered a little at the chill that ran down your back. Of course the rain had to come to make this experience even more miserable than it already was. You wished that Hange was by your side on this little outing, but of course, the little group headed by Floch would only take one of you out at a time. Pay no mind, just try to get through this, you tell yourself, gritting your teeth. You turn your focus onto happier thoughts to try and propel yourself through this little “mission”. Your mind flitted to random, somewhat material things; a freshly washed and dried long sleeve shirt, a cup of soothing tea, and using your ODM gear just for fun. But, like all thoughts of yours tend to do, they all turned onto the man that had been stationed out in the woods for weeks. Levi Ackerman. Four, maybe five years ago, you never would have thought that the gray-eyed man could become anything closer to you than a colleague, much less a boyfriend. But, things just fell weirdly into place, setting up your relationship. Oh, what he would say when he finds out what has been happening back at HQ, you muse, your mouth twitching into a small smile. However, your somewhat appeased expression morphed into one of confusion when a sudden cracking noise reverberated through the air and landed on the ears of you and the group of traitorous scouts.
“Uh… Floch?” You hear one of the scouts say, their voice laced with concern.
“What the hell was that?” Floch asks.
“Thunder maybe?” Another scout chimes in, not sounding confident in their answer. Your eyebrows knit in perplexity as your eyes narrow in the direction the sound came in. Then, it all comes together. A Thunder Spear. You conclude. A lump in your throat forms. But why? The only people out in the woods would be… Levi.
“Let’s head in that direction.” The redhead concludes. The group wordlessly kicks their horses into a canter as everyone heads toward a more northern direction. It’s only when you get closer to the forest’s tree line that you see where that sound came from. In the short distance, a somewhat mangled titan was laying down on its stomach, but closer to you was the wreckage of a wooden cart. Planks of wood were sticking out haphazardly, and to your sorrow, so were two horses. You heard the murmurs of confusion from Floch’s group, but your focus remained on one of the horses. Why was your attention captured by such a sad sight? This poor, jet black horse was on its side. It almost reminded you of Levi’s… no, it looks exactly like his horse. Hurriedly, but not so fast as to draw attention to yourself, your eyes and head dart around the surroundings of the wreckage. Over the drenched plains and tall grass, nothing was out of the norm. Until your eyes landed a green Scout Regiment cloak with its hood up, definitely covering a person’s body that you recognized immediately. Oh no. Oh no, no, no. Without hesitation, you hopped off your horse - your feet almost getting tangled in the stirrups of the saddle - and sprinted towards the cloak-wrapped body.
“CAPTAIN Y/N, DO NOT RUN OFF!” Floch shouts over the downpour of rain. Paying no mind to the mud that caked your boots and the stinging of the tall grass as it cut and pricked your face. You reach him and flip him over immediately. As soon as you see his face, you audibly gasp. A long, slightly deep cut stretched from just on top of his right brow, over his right eye, over his mouth, and then finally stopped at his chin. Substantially sized wood chips were buried into his left cheek. What made your hands shake, though, was the fact that all over his pale face and stuck in his silky black hair was his blood. You jostle him once, then twice, and then finally a third time to yield no movement from him.
“ARE YOU ALIVE?” You shout into his ear, your voice trying to reach his eardrums. “ANSWER ME, PLEASE!” You feel your heart breaking as his lips don’t move and his eyes don’t flutter with movement. Never did you think that your time with him would run out. Humanity's strongest soldier, the captain of the special ops squad, and the love of your life taken out of the world just like that? No. He was too stubborn, too hellbent on avenging Erwin and making sure that you don’t get yourself into ‘dumb predicaments’ as he likes to say. You hug his limp body close to you and press your ear to his chest. You knew that Floch and his cronies would be surrounding you soon, but you just wanted one last moment with you and him alone. Your eyes closed as you nestled yourself into him in a last ditch effort in order to find some final comfort from him. All you could hear was the rain and the faint squelching of the “Scouts’” boots coming towards you. But then, as light as a feather, a heartbeat. Your eyes shoot open as you press your ear against his chest closer to his chest, trying to make sure what you heard wasn’t a hallucination. Another heartbeat, although faint, was there. You didn’t have time to react when you heard a voice from behind you.
“I don’t know what happened, but we got lucky. Our biggest threat, now covered in his own blood.” Floch’s words pierced your heart. How he could be so insensitive, so disrespectful of a human life.
“I’ll send a shot through his head.” Another one said.
“He’s dead.” You quickly say, earning silence from the rest of the group. If he’s going to stay alive, I have to act fast. I have to make up stuff on the fly. You say to yourself. “He must have been hit by a Thunder Spear explosion at close range,” you say, incorporating the cracking noise that everyone heard. “I saw something similar in a training accident when Hange was in the developing stage with prototypes. He might not look dead, but his vital organs are in shreds. He died immediately from the internal bleeding.” You say, trying your best to convince them that Levi was, in fact, ready to be buried six feet under. You look up to Floch, forcing tears to spring from your eyes in order to fully sell the effect.
“Well, I know how to take a pulse. Lemme see him and I’ll check to make sure that he is, as you say, dead.” Floch said, nonchalantly. Shit. But, like some higher power was looking down on you, the titan near the treeline produced a strange smoky-like substance, gaining the attention from the group.
“What’s going on?”
“I haven’t seen anything like this before.”
“What do we do?” Comments from everyone in the group were voiced, everyone’s eyes - including yours - trained on the origin of the smoke. And there, like he emerged from a phoenix’s ashes, was Zeke. Your eyes widen, and then narrow. They’re obsessed with Zeke and Eren. This is my chance. Gripping Levi as tightly as you can and putting all of your energy into this exact moment, you launched you and Levi into the river that ran right next to you. You could hear the warped voices of the traitorous scouts as you plunged into the freezing water, but you couldn’t and wouldn’t turn your head. They had the guns, they had the manpower, and they had the higher ground. The only way you and Levi would survive this is if you swam down the river. So, you swam, and swam, and swam.
You gasp and cough up water as you resurface, immediately putting your efforts into getting Levi out of the river water. You manage to push his body and roll it a foot away from the riverbank before you get swept under the water again. FIGHT, DAMMIT! You scream to yourself, clawing your way out and onto the land next to Levi. With another cough and hack, you grab hold of your unconscious boyfriend and somewhat drag, somewhat carrying him into the woods to find what little shelter you could get. You whip your head around quickly to survey your surroundings, finding solace in the fact that it’s just the two of you.
“O-okay,” you waver, your mind strained and your body exhausted, “there’s no one here or after us right now. We’re safe for right now.” You say, hopeful that Levi could hear you. You quickly make a camp out of the supplies that you had on your back as well as the things you could find in nature. Thankfully, every scout - captain or cadet - was required to carry a full tent and sleeping pack, so as quickly as you could, you set those both up. From when you were hammering in the little pegs of the tent and unfolding and rolling out the sleeping pack, you kept a watchful eye on Levi. Finally, everything was set up and a small campfire was roaring. Now, you could officially tend to him. You peel back the cloak from his body and set in near the fire to dry it off. Pulling Levi gently over and onto the sleeping pack, you brush back his hair from his face so that you could fully assess his injuries.
“Oh Levi…” You murmur, taking in that big scar again. There was no doubt that he had gone blind in his right eye. All you could hope was that there is no infection. So, quickly, you take out your first aid kit and get to work. First, you start to remove the wood chips from his face with tweezers. “You know, you would be furious if you saw how Floch treated Hange and the rest of the leading officials within the Regiment. Probably would’ve ended him right then and there.” You blab, trying to distract yourself and talk to Levi at the same time. Pulling wood out of your boyfriend’s face was not something you loved doing. Thankfully, there weren’t that many chips and they didn’t splinter, so that work was quick. Now came the monstrous task of stitching up those gashes stretching across his face. The one on his cheek didn’t worry you, but the one stretching across his eye and mouth most definitely did. So, to try and fuel your confidence, you start with the smaller and less dependent one. After a couple of shaky tries, you finally thread the needle and tie a knot at the end of it to prevent the stitch from coming undone.
“Okay, you can do this Y/N. It’s just like when your mom used to stitch up your clothes, right? Just nice and slow…” you say to yourself, bringing the needle to his mangled skin. “Levi, I can’t believe you’re making me do this you asshole!” You whine, a few tears falling from your eyes as you finally stick the needle through his skin and stitching it together. You got into a steady rhythm, messing up a bit here and there, but eventually getting the job done. You grab the little thread scissors and snip off the end of the thread, tying the little thread at the end of the gash tightly, but not as taut as to rip the stitching.
“Now onto the big one.” You breathe, prepping yourself. With a deep breath and a scrunch of your eyes, you begin at his chin and start making your way up. It was a short distance to stitch to his bottom lip, but you hated to sew that part up. Those lips were always so soft against your skin. From pressing butterfly kisses to your shoulders when you would wake up in bed, quick ones to your forehead before leaving for a mission, and passionate ones to your lips when you would finally get back, those lips comforted you and helped you through the tough reality of living. Now, you had to leave a permanent reminder on his lips that he wasn’t as invincible as he might’ve once thought. You tie that part off before starting at his top lip, making your way up to his eye. This was the part you were dreading. Those silver irises drew your attention in whichever situation you were in. Whether it be a meeting of the minds or just a quick glance his way, you would get absolutely lost in those gray pools. Now, he would have only one and his vision would be used through a single eye.
“Come on L/N, you’ve got this.” You whisper while starting to stitch his eye. It was a rough, uncomfortable experience, but finally you made it over his eye and to his forehead. And, with one last tie and a snip from the scissors, you were done. The last thing you had to do was wrap his right hand. You discovered, when dragging him through the river, just how far his injuries extended. Two of his fingers, his middle and index, were cut clean off. It pained you to know that he would have to relearn how to use ODM gear again. The tool he was a master and artist at using, making himself look graceful and deadly at the same time, he would have to relearn. You just covered his hand and wounds quickly, and let your mind veer from that. You cleaned his face again, swiping a clean strip of your shirt, a piece you ripped off, and went carefully over his stitches and took extra care in the more tender areas. Then, you threw it to the side and plopped down at his side, staring at the grass in front of you.
“What the hell do we do now…” You say, your voice dry and void of life, your eyes sullen. “We can’t stop Zeke between you, me, and the rest of the scouts we have on our side. Eren’s on this weird and insane rampage, ostracising Mikasa and Armin from himself, as well as the rest of us. The Yeagerists are becoming this crazed cult by seizing control over everything… I just do not know what to do.” You confess, laying all of your feelings out for him to, hopefully, hear. Glancing back at Levi, you see he’s still motionless. However, you see the shallow rise and fall of his chest, and that comforts you for now.
Levi is still unconscious when you begin formulating ideas on how to get him back or get help in general. Armin, Mikasa, and the rest of the 104th cadets were being kept somewhere, you knew that much. You had no way of knowing where they were keeping Hange or how she was doing, and the other top ranking officials of each of the different regiments were either colluding with the Yeagerists or being beaten to a pulp by them. Even Hitch, a member of the Garrison that everyone had taken a large liking to, was probably still guarding Annie who was stuck in her crystal for four five years and counting. Your thoughts were put to a hold, though, when a beam of light and a booming sound erupted from the walls. You spun around to face the light, absolutely dumbstruck at the sight. You had seen something like this before, for example whenever Armin or Eren changed into their respective titans, but this was something different.
“Oh my-” You begin to say, but then a strangled sounding groan was voiced. Levi. Whipping your head to face him, you find the black-haired man sitting up slowly and grumbling.
“The Beast… That piece of shit… where is he…?” You quickly make your way over to him, pressing a gentle hand to his stomach.
“Hey, easy, lay back down.” You order softly. To your surprise, he complies. “Zeke went back to Shiganshina with the Yeagerists.” You explain, trying to answer Levi’s question. You see the absolutely defeated look in his eye, but was not able to see his frown through the wrappings you had placed around his head to dress his wounds. “Levi,” you ask softly, bringing your hand to lightly hold his left hand, “what happened?” His gaze left yours to look beyond yourself, maybe towards the sky.
“I screwed up. I didn’t take into question whether Zeke was ready to die or not. I guess he was since he triggered that thunderspear I had aimed towards his neck. I let him get away. Again.” His eyes went back onto yours.
“I… I know you’re upset and you want your revenge, I really do. But, for right now, I think that we-”
“If we keep running and hiding, where the hell will that get us.” Levi interrupts. You press your mouth into a tight line and look away from him.
“I know, I agree.” You say, sighing. “We’ll get back there, back into the action. We’ll make things right.”
“My goal is to kill Zeke.” He says. You know that killing Zeke has been on his mind ever since Erwin, and you know it will never leave it. However, you can’t stop the worry that rises within you when you think about how that may be Levi’s only goal. How after he completes it, he won’t make new goals or find new dreams to carry out within life. Your body goes a bit rigid and now you turn away from him completely. However, if you could see Levi’s face, you would know that he realizes how his wording found a way to hurt you, and he hated that. He hated the thought that you had to risk your neck for his, take care and stitch him up, and now put up with him. “Y/N-”
“No, I understand.” You say, turning your face back to his and pressing a smile that didn’t quite reach your eyes onto your face.
“Y/N.” He says more forcibly now, causing your fake smile to drop. “Killing Zeke is my goal. It’s not my entire life's purpose.” Tears start to well in your eyes as you bite your cheek, willing them to stop.
“Okay.” You croak, grasping onto his hand tighter. You feel his grip on you tighten as well. “Levi Ackerman, we will get through this, do you understand me? You are not allowed to die on me until we are both old and gray and on rocking chairs outside on the little patio in front of our house, got it?” You say, letting the tears flow freely.
“Until we’re old and gray.” He repeats, nodding. You sigh out of pure exhaustion and lay down next to him.
“It fucking sucked stiching you up. I don’t understand how medics do that.” You say, trying to change the subject.
“Yeah, well, I could tell the stitches are shoddy at most. You’ll probably leave me with an ugly ass scar across my face.” He bites back. This earns a smile from you as you turn your head, pressing a kiss to his left cheek.
“You could prove to be a whole lot nicer to me. I had to drag your ass through a river.”
“I would’ve paid money to see you swim.” He muses, earning a drop of the jaw from you.
“Hey, I can swim fine!” You reason. A few beats of silence pass.
“Thank you. For dragging me away from those little shits and cleaning me up.” You nod and let one of your hands fall on his chest, feeling his heartbeat. It’s steady and consistent this time, causing a smile to spread across your face as you close your eyes.
“I love you.” You say, grasping onto his shirt.
“I love you too. And I promise, for the rest of your life, I’ll be there for you too.” Unfortunately, the last part of confession falls upon deaf ears on your part since you passed out into a much needed sleep. That’s okay to him, though. He would be there by your side to tell you that again, and again, and again.

hey! you seem to be the only person that has posted about the show parallels and i really want to talk to someone about it! do you have any headcanons or anything else you wanna talk abt regarding the show? i'd be very interested
Do I. Want to talk about Parallels. I would die for you, thank you so much.
Aaah, okay, where to start? Let me just break these up by character.
Romane: Headcanon that she wants to go into animation as a career, but she isn't sure how practical it would be. I don't have any explanation for this one, it just popped into my head.
Sam: Because projecting onto one Deslandes brother apparently wasn't enough for me, I was so generous as to gift him my anxiety disorder. I feel like his parents put a lot of pressure onto him, and so a lot of anxiety kind of developed from that.
Victor: I already mentioned this earlier, but I headcanon that Victor has undiagnosed ADHD, and he suspects it, but doesn't want to mention anything to his parents.
Bilal: Kind of a small headcanon, but I think the stuffed dog we see him holding at one point was a birthday present from his mom when he was younger, which kind of adds to the angst of the scene, as it's now his birthday again, and this time he's isolated from his mom, and everyone else he cares about.
Sofia: I think the kids hang out at her house the most out of all their houses, so she feels really protective over the friend group.
Retz: Headcanon that, after season one, he starts hanging out with Sofia more, and she shows him the video explaining what happened. So, then he's around Sofia's house a lot, and every time Sam sees him, he somehow gets roped into listening to Sam talk about his relationship problems. I just think that would be funny.
I also have a lot of thoughts about various character dynamics.
Romane and Bilal: I have complicated feelings about them. I don't like the love triangle, I feel like it was unneccessary. And, I feel like, while having them get together in one timeline was interesting, that shouldn't transfer over to the main timeline. They're different versions of themselves, with different experiences, and different dynamics with each other. I think a good ending for the main timeline would be having Bilal struggle with his memories of the other timeline and his relationship with Romane, but ultimately get over his feelings for her, and remain friends. Also, going off of my headcanon that Romane is interested in animation, and seeing that Bilal canonically likes to draw, they can bond over art.
Romane and Sam: I do appreciate that the show was clear that they had feelings for each other from episode one, because I strongly dislike when shows try to "slowly build up" to a romance reveal, since, 9 times out of 10, I will not see it coming, and I will be expecting friendship, only to be sorely disappointed. Altogether, their relationship is decent. Kind of confusing when they tried to throw a love triangle in there, but if they insist on having a romance in the show, I do prefer Romane and Sam to Romane and Bilal, simply because I knew what I was getting into with the former, while the latter kind of snuck up on me mid-episode. I feel like Romane and Sam would be the type of people to get a pet hermit crab together, even though Sam is creeped out by the hermit crab's weird little claws.
Romane and Victor: I can forgive Disney for the love triangle, if only because they gave these two the absolute best friendship I've ever seen on a Disney show in my entire life. I have many thoughts about the timeline where Bilal and Sam disappeared, and one of them is that, after Victor went to boarding school, him and Romane really tried to stay in contact, and at first, they did. But, as they both started to feel more and more isolated, they slowly stopped calling each other. Working on a fic about the concept of them drifting apart during those four years. But they seemed to become close again once they reunited, and I love their dynamic so much. Oh, fun detail that I noticed. When Victor is involuntarily using his powers, he's usually shaking with emotion. When he's voluntarily using his powers, he usually seems more composed. When he attacked Herve, it looked like he was shaking slightly, which seems to imply that he wasn't originally trying to use his powers on him, he just had such an emotional reaction to seeing Romane in danger that his powers went off. Not certain on that, just a theory. Also, I want to see them having fun with their powers. They deserve it.
Sam and Bilal: Not a ton to say on them, just that they have a nice dynamic, and also they are absolutely the parents of their friend group.
Sam and Victor: Many thoughts on the Deslandes brothers. I feel like Sam got screwed over by their parents more than the show lets on. I want to see him and Victor talk about their parents more. Okay, I had way more thoughts than that, but I conveniently forgot them all, so I might come back to them later. .
Victor and Bilal: If we get a season two, I want some acknowledgement of the fact that Bilal literally saw Victor kill Sam in front of him. They should talk about that for sure, because he's probably going to be at least slightly traumatized from that. They're definitely still close friends though, and they've got a lot of potential for a really interesting dynamic.
Sofia and Retz: I actually like their dynamic a lot. If we get a season two, having them as chaotic parental figures to everyone would be absolutely fantastic. I want to see them unofficially adopt the Deslandes brothers.
Well, all that got insanely long, but thank you so much for asking! I was dying to talk to someone about Parallels! Oh, and if you want to hear my ideas about songs to represent the characters, I'm working on that, too, along with several fanfiction ideas! And I would absolutely love to hear any of your thoughts on the show!
(I can practically hear how intensely I'm hyperfixating on this, so I'm fully aware of how obsessed I probably sound.)
