Why is there such intense sexual tension between gp and max
I really think the meat of the dynamic is max can trust him to be honest with him, and in turn max can be his most unfiltered honest self.


the driver and race engineer dynamic is a very intimate one. if you think of the car and the driver as the horse, the raw power that wins the races, then your race engineer is your rider -- calm and firm in guiding you to victory. f1 is a huge team production, each driver has a whole factory of people behind him making sure everything goes smoothly. but during the race the driver's only direct connection to the team is the voice in his ear, relaying strategy, warning them of other cars and track limits, encouraging them and even admonishing. this is the man you trust with your life, literally, coming out of blind spots like out of the monaco tunnel and trusting your engineer to tell you whose behind you.
with max and GP, GP's been his race engineer since 2016. that's a very long time and a very long relationship. max is obviously redbulls golden boy and literally everyone's job in the team is to keep him happy, from his tp to helmut it's all praise (and he's doing an outstanding job to get it), but GP in a way is the only person who isn't and by the function of his job can't be a yes man to max. he has to relay him the truth. you'll see GP isn't often impressed by max, and even bets against him making pole. The guy who knows your data and braking points and how you keep crossing over track limits isn't gonna be too impressed by you even if you're god's gift to racing. He makes max earn his post race praise. He's even curt, and outright direct when max is whining on radio. Likewise, max knows he can be aggressive in high pressure situations, yelling at him to not talk to him in the braking zone and that GP can take handle him. There's trust in that too. And if he feels he went too far, he will sheepishly get GP ice cream post race. Their dynamic on radio is one that makes us the viewers we're witnessing a couple having a domestic tiff. that's because GP gives back as good as he gets. He doesn't coddle max, if max makes the wrong call then GP will call him out on it. my favourite radio is when max was yapping why didn't we do etc etc and GP was straight up do you want to switch jobs? how about you do your own next lap.
this is the man you can be your worst self in high stress situations to and he will take you as you are. that's basically a marriage.
obviously despite all the headache max causes, GP loves working with him. he literally said max is the driver he wants to retire with. he has a photo with max in his living room, instead of his wife 😭 likewise, max literally has a clause in his contract that he gets GP. max is someone who is loyal to a fault and GP's been with him since his very first f1 win. that's his emotional regulator baldie.
the sexual tension comes from the fact that GP is 17 years older than him and max wants to get rawed by him 🧑🏻🦲❤️😋

this “f1 is for the girlies” push to try and commodify the sport so you can be a “paddock princess” and essentially a pretty object is just repackaged misogyny. girls like CARS. girls like strategy and combustion engineering and aerodynamics and race analysis and RACING. i don’t want to be sold a lingerie set based on who my favourite f1 team is, i want a sensible and flattering team shirt that actually fits my body shape.

What none of them realise - not the fans, not the media, not even the other drivers - is that the second that race ends and your helmet comes off, Carlos makes you pay for it.
Hard.
“You think you’re clever?” he says, voice low, back pressed to the closed garage door. “Making me look like a clown on the radio?”
You’re already panting. Still in your race suit. The zipper pulled down to your waist. Chest heaving. Thighs trembling where you’re pinned between him and the wall. You smirk. “You like it.”
He laughs darkly. Then his hand closes around your throat. “Say one more thing, brat. I dare you.”
You moan. Soft. Needy.
He bends you over the workbench and yanks your fireproofs down to your knees. “Ten,” he says. “For every second you made me sound like your assistant today.”
You’re already dripping. The first smack lands on your ass with a loud crack. You bite your lip. The second has you gasping. By the fifth, you’re sobbing.
“You don’t get to act like that on radio and not pay for it,” he growls. “You know the rules.”
“Yes, Carlos.”
“What are the rules?”
“Be good. Listen to you. Don’t embarrass you.”
“And?”
“Don’t come unless you say so.”
“Good girl.”
You whimper. He fucks you right there in the garage, deep, slow, punishing. One hand fisted in your hair, the other between your legs. You’re already on edge when he pulls back and just stares.
“You don’t get to come yet.”
“Please-”
“You’re a brat. You act like a brat, you wait like one.”
You nearly cry. He kisses your temple. “Be patient. I’m going to make you feel everything when you earn it.”
And he does. He makes you thank him when you come. Makes you look at him while he fills you. Makes you say sorry until he believes it.
Then he cleans you up. Wraps you in one of his old Williams hoodies. Puts you to bed like you’re glass.
“You okay?” he whispers, brushing your hair back.
You nod. “I love you.”
He kisses your forehead. “Even when you’re a menace on team radio.”
The truth comes out two races later. You’re walking down the paddock hand-in-hand. You think no one’s watching. Someone always is.
When you reach over and kiss Carlos on the cheek - and he says, “careful. I still owe you ten for that restart call” - a passing camera catches everything.
The video goes viral before you’re even back in the motorhome.
WAIT SHE’S FUCKING HIM???? sainz is her ENGINEER what the fuck is going on this is actually the hottest power dynamic alive he punishes her for talking back I just know it so the radio sass was FOREPLAY?!? screaming crying vomiting throwing up
You read them all while sitting in his lap, smug and flushed and very sore. Carlos doesn’t say a word. He just grips your hip and whispers, “Make them listen to everything next race.”

also when driver first moved to the team George had no idea how to comfort them after a bad race, unsure if they wanted space, or just someone to be with them. George decides to keep his distance until one race where driver just sighs and mutters “stay…please.” George’s heart melts and combusts simultaneously at this.

You know the disqualification wasn’t your fault.
You know that. How could it possibly be your fault anyway? Sure, if you twist it into something utterly unrecognisable you could make it into a personal failing. But you’re trying not to blame yourself for every little thing, and you’re trying hard not to micromanage.
You’re new at Mercedes anyway, you don’t want to come off too strong. Scare them off before they start to really trust you. It's a miracle in and of itself that you're here. A rookie driver, a woman, at Mercedes of all teams. Alongside Lewis Hamilton. You've got Susie and Toto Wolff to thank for that you suppose.
Anyway, you're trying hard not to think about the car just on the other side of the wall. Trying not to grab a tape measure and measure the chassis yourself. Like you'll find anything different than the FIA, like it'll change anything at all.
It's only P8 after all— four points— which is four points you'd have really liked to have to your name. Especially so early on in your rookie season. Toto knows that, had been apologetic on behalf of the team during the debriefing. You'd understood.
You'd tried to understand at least.
He'd said it wouldn't happen again.
Still, it hurts. There this ache in your chest that makes it feel like your hopes and dreams are slipping away through your fingers. This was the first race you felt you'd really begun to prove yourself and your position on this team and now everyone will be able to point to the disqualification and say this is why. She doesn't have the raw skill, it's because of the car—
"There's next week."
You snap your head up, startled at the noise. It's George, in the doorway. You'd not heard him come in, too busy navel-gazing, feeling sorry for yourself. God, you're pathetic.
"Hm", you question, trying not to let on that you're utterly miserable.
"There's next week," he repeats, inching into the room and closing the door gently behind him, "You'll do it again next week."
Your mouth twists involuntarily, skeptical. Even though you know it wasn't you. It was the car, it was some silly mistake from the warehouse. You couldn't have done anything. It just inexplicably feels like the world is crumbling in on you and you can't figure out why.
"You think?"
George nods, expression serious, a little harrowed. But sympathetic, like he understands, like he knows how it feels. You're inclined to believe that he does, he'd not given you a reason to think otherwise in the six odd months you've known him.
"Pretty sure," he says in such a way that you're sure he means 'unequivocally yes', like he believes in you wholeheartedly, like he'd never doubt you.
You're not sure what you've done to deserve that from him. This unwavering loyalty to you that he seems to have already. You just know you feel it too. Inexplicably.
You watch him, long-limbed and slightly out of place, shifting from foot to foot under your stare. He makes a move to leave after a long minute, giving you a cursory nod— you feel something open up in your chest at the thought of him leaving right. Some pit of yearning, some ache that you cant quite place.
"Wait," you say, feeling brave.
His hand falls from the door knob, he turns, tilting his head at you in question. His eyebrows furrowed.
"Would you stay? For a bit?"
He's nodding before you've got the words out, crossing the room to sit next to you on the couch. Not too close, but enough that you can feel the body heat radiating off him, smell him, a little sweaty from being out on the pit-lane, but mostly the smell of his cologne.
"Yeah," he says gently, "Of course, I can."
You nod in thanks, feeling a little exposed, a little vulnerable from your shame, from begging for a friend in him.
"Thank you, George. I just—" don't have anyone else, you don't say, feeling like that might be too far. Instead you let you sentence taper off and sigh, letting some tension leech out of you, "Yeah."
George moves closer, fractionally. Feeling brave again, you lean your head onto his shoulder, hoping he doesn't mind too much. You decide he doesn't when his arm comes around so he can rub little comforting circles into the top of your shoulder.
Slowly but surely, you feel all the anger and the sadness make way for some warm fuzzy feeling in your stomach. From then on, George becomes a regular fixture in your driver's room, especially post-race, especially when you feel like your heart has been stomped on. It's hard to feel like shit when George acts like you're capable of anything.

Lost faith when there was a women in sports post and it was just pics the wags who weren't in sports
Carmen hosting the women in motorsports dinner in Vegas last year was a tipping point for me. Kelly being on that Vogue cover a couple of years ago as well. While partnership and support is important I don’t believe that just dating a driver really qualifies you to be classed as a ‘leader’ in those spaces and honestly…..it’s a bad omen.
