The esteemed drummer of the collective, II, posted to his Instagram a video of this Rain play through. This was taken on June 13 2023 while Sleep Token performed at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This leg of their United Kingdom and Europe Summer Rituals tour was spent opening in support of Slipknot.

For context, Buck and his social media manager Amanda are filming AMA questions in the green room.

“Does Tommy’s different drumming style change anything live?” Amanda asks.

At the sound of his name, Tommy’s head snaps up from where he was looking down at his cellphone.

“They’re asking about me?” Tommy asks in surprise. He looks so genuinely flattered that it makes Buck grin.

“Got a lot of questions about you, actually,” Amanda says, shooting him an impatient look, “Now hush, we’re on a time crunch.”

Tommy mimes zipping his lips, but his mouth is twitching into a smile. It’s a question Buck has been thinking about, because he rarely actually gets any about playing styles or performing itself. And the answer is boring, because it’s a ‘no’ but Buck still wants to do it justice.

Amanda starts to record.

“Not really,” Buck says, hyper aware that Tommy’s watching him closely now, “Tommy’s playing style is pretty different from Lucy’s, but he’s good about playing on genre, you know? Obviously if he played for me the way he plays for his band that would change things, but everything has been smooth sailing.”

“Nice,” Amanda says with a happy nod.

“Smooth sailing, huh?” Tommy asks, sounding pleased, “I’ll take that.”

“There’s another question about if you’ve listened to any more of his music, and if so, what’s your favorite song?” Amanda says next.

Buck feels his face get hot.

“Say Aortic F–” Tommy starts.

“I can’t say Aortic Fuck, Tommy,” Buck says, unable to stop himself from laughing, “Kids watch these.”

Besides. He hasn't listened to Aortic Fuck.

“Kids these days know the word ‘fuck’,” Tommy’s got that wide smile of his, “Anyway, it’s a deep cut. The internet will respect that answer.”

“You don’t have to answer at all,” Amanda points out, and Buck can tell from her frown that she wishes the two of them would hurry up and let her finish.  

“I should though,” Buck says earnestly, before looking at Tommy, “When you got asked you had a really great answer, and then I just sounded like a dumbass that didn’t care, because I could only think of that song about miscarriages.”

“Evan,” Tommy says, looking like he can’t decide if Buck’s being funny or not, and sounding very amused, “That’s really sweet, but you don’t listen to death metal. There’s no reason for you to pretend like you do.”

DON'T SLANDER CARLOTTA LIKE THAT SHE WAS AMAZING /J

Yeah that's fair, Dancing Shadows does have a cliche plot and it's not very realistic with Carlotta's backstory/development, but you can't deny, the book does earn its place as a golden age book :]

At least in my opinion anyway, the girls' brains were showcased like hell in that book and you love to see it. Also aesthetic, you can't deny the aesthetic

On Carlotta tho, yeah her character in general is probably by far the least realistic part of the book, but even then the focus was more on the judges trying to sabo the competition than Carlotta herself. Being real, her skill in ballet probably would've been more like uh

Okay if we're gonna go with the lore here, she is a self-taught ballerina whose skill allowed her to qualify for this mega-prestigious dance competition, so her skill would be (compared to everyone else in the competition) mid at best? I think? If we disregard everyone being like "beautiful, amazing, prodigy", she'd probably be mid in the competition. Don't get me wrong, that'd probably be a "WHAT" kinda skill level for someone in her situation, but uh yeah with Mice for Dance sabo-ing, girlie probably won't make it past first round, especially if the MfD judges were rig-y enough that only Colette and Violet, both classically trained students, made it among the Thea Sisters in the preliminary rounds, which, funny enough, was what would've happened in the book haha. Rousetti's vote really did carry her huh

Okay ramble over, main thing I liked about the book was the emphasis on the message of "it's not about if you went to a bougie-ass school, it's about if you genuinely care for the art and put effort into it". And the girls big-braining the crap outa getting the MfD judges and competitors exposed for their shenanigans. The switcheroo was a clever one change my mind

Also the theme of where the line where artistic legitimacy is drawn. The book has these debates peppered around about whether or not it truly matters what your background of education is in ballet in order for it to be legitimate ballet, highlighted especially in Vasily and Pyotr's debate, where Vasily believes that ballet should be open to influences from around the world, while Pyotr believes that authentic ballet only exists in the traditions taught in Russian dance schools. It's kind of a debate that happens in all forms of art in some flavor, and in the book, neither Vasily nor Pyotr are proven right or wrong, if that makes sense. Even when Carlotta makes it big, she's still kind of a point in Pyotr's favor, since she's a ballet nerd who studied as much as she could about the tradition and the art in general despite being a self-taught dancer who watched ballerinas dance from backstage and then copied their movements in front of a mirror to the best of her ability. So seeing where artists fall in that spectrum of the debate is something I find interesting (when ignorant idiots aren’t the ones debating).

We've got homework that we should design a story with instrumental breaks, which will be graded. I haven't done anything for that yet. Even tho it was due several weeks ago and classmates already got their grades.

Well, it's not the most spacious place, for starters. Julie has us all beat on that I think, with Neil and Stephen's place coming second. Then maybe my place? I'm not really sure... DEFINITELY not Scott's.

But it's alright. Ramona knows what to do with the space she has, I think. And she just tucks whatever doesn't need out into her little bag that she's got, so there's never really any clutter, unless Scott's provided it. She's got, like, multiple stories to it? Like, one and a basement, or something- in addition to the ground floor, I mean. We've discussed playing down in her basement, sometimes, for practice? She seemed pretty receptive.

It's nice being over there. I dunno. She hasn't done a whole lot with it, but it's nicer hanging out there than it is here, usually. Wish she was less busy so I could come over more... I mean, I could visit Scott when he's there I guess, but it's not really the same. Besides, I wouldn't want Ramona to come back from work and have to chase me off to get some rest or something?

*Kim sort of snickers a little.* Or she'd come back to me trying to hide Scott's body. She doesn't deserve to deal with that.

Anway, more realistically, she's probably exhausted after running around all day, being the only Amazon delivery person in our area and all. Even if she was fine with me lingering, I'm not sure I want front row seats for the two of them being lovey-dovey or whatever. Gross.

And Gideon... Gideon is probably one of the cutest cats I've ever seen. I didn't really like cats too much before now, but I think I've been converted or something. He's just the sweetest thing, sometimes, and Ramona's managed to get him nearly completely desensitized to being picked up, held, moved around- he just genuinely doesn't care, so long as you aren't hurting him.

He's a short haired cat, I think, but he's super soft- Ramona tells me it's because we're always petting him. Something about the oils in our hands making his fur softer? I think I get the general idea there. His fur is like... deceptively dense though? You can sink your fingers in a little and muss it up if you want.

Heh. I don't recommend trying to mess with his stomach at all, though. Gideon's generally pretty forgiving, and doesn't really bite or scratch people from what I've seen at least, but one time Scott tried to give him belly rubs while he was all splayed out on the couch... the attack afterward was pretty tame so far as the initial strike went, but he got Scott good, and there was like... blood, everywhere. You'd think he nicked an artery or something, but no, it was just Scott doing what Scott does.

Is there some sort of like... thin-skinned or heavy bleeder debuff he's got or something? Or was it just him being a moron and splattering it everywhere? Anyway, Ramona had it handled pretty quickly, and tiredly, so that's probably something really typical for them.
