I can't wait to start to read it but right now I need to finish something before I do so later today :)

Someday I might actually try to put more effort into saying something about this, but- I've been on an Outsiders kick recently and am thinking about how it's such an interesting case study in fandom/media culture.

Every year hundreds of kids read this book from 1967 for school, and a handful (myself and a few friends included) latch onto it in ways they don't other compulsory-read books. Its longevity in popular culture means that you have fans in all age groups, a large number of which would likely never have read the book or seen the movie if it wasn't for a grade. I'm always so surprised when I find people who HAVEN'T read or watched it (even if it was just for school)!

Re-visiting the fandom so many years later as a 22 year-old, recent college graduate just to find that not only is there still an active fandom, but one that is so clearly (especially on Pinterest) driven by young people who are in the same awful, confusing place I was when I was first introduced to these characters is great. (I'm also guessing that the recent musical adaptation is helping a fair bit too! I will admit with some embarrassment that I've had it on repeat the past week or so...)

Anyways- I just still have so much love for this book and still cry when I watch the movie, and have too many thoughts/feelings about it as a result.
