Aang was ecstatic to be reunited with his old childhood best friend. Of course, he was! Bumi was quite literally one of the four things that connected Aang to his previous life before being consumed by an iceberg 112 years ago; Next to Appa, Momo, and his airbending of course.
Tears collected in both of their eyes as Aang and Bumi wrapped their arms tight around one another - Finally reunited after a century. Bumi knew all those years of chugging down onion-banana juice every morning was a genius idea!
However, the happy moment was interrupted when an Omashu guard rushed into the throne room. “Your Highness!”
Bumi and Aang parted from their embrace. “Yes, yes, what is it?” Bumi asked.
The guard seemed hesitant, “We finally received news on the whereabouts of Princess Serenity.”
“ ‘Princess’?? You had kids??” Aang was both surprised and stunned. Bumim never really seemed like the family man type. Sokka and Katara were surprised that such a crazy man was even able to reproduce! They wondered if his lineage was just as kooky as he was.
“I did, but Serenity is not my granddaughter by blood. We kind of… adopted each other a while back.” Bumi’s voice grew soft as he spoke of Serenity. His eyes hardened slightly, “Where is she?”
“She’s been captured by a Fire Nation fleet near a mining village by the Mo Ce Sea shoreline.”
Aang and Katara gasped; Sokka gritted his teeth.
“How long ago?”
“Just this morning. An Earth Kingdom scout heard some Fire Nation soldiers boasting about ‘hunting the last Lion Turtle’. We believe she’s been transported to the Mo Ce Sea prison rig under the control of Warden Takei.”
Bumi stroked his long white beard in thought. “Hmm. I’ve heard Warden Takei is one of the more ruthless wardens of the lot.”
“What should we do, Your Highness?” The guard asked again.
“We can go and rescue her!” Aang proclaimed.
Bumi smiled and rested a hand on his friend’s shoulder. “I appreciate your efforts, Aang, but I have faith in my granddaughter.” He began to erupt into laughter, “Besides I feel bad for those Fire Nation weasels! They have to deal with her!” He snorted so hard his nose hurt.
Aang, Sokka, Katara, and even the guard shared concerned and confused looks.
“But Your Highness, this is Omahu’s Regent we’re talking about.” The guard tried to explain. Bui cut him off, “And I taught her everything she knows. Of course, I’m worried for her, but she’s a smart girl. She’ll escape from underneath their noses as she did the other seven times.” He shrugged, beaming at Serenity’s impressive track record.
“ ‘Seven times’?!” The Gaang gasped.
“Yes, yes, she’s trying to break an old friend’s record of escaping thirteen times! Ambitious my granddaughter is!” Bumi chuckled and snorted again.
The Gaang and the guard didn’t seem too convinced…
“I can not wait to send the news to Fire Lord Ozai that I have captured the Last Mighty Lion Turtle!” Warden Takei’s grin fell into a snarl, “What a stupid name that is! And to think she’s just a young girl!” The warden cackled, his laughter echoing throughout the prison rig’s metal structure.
Serenity smirked as she stared up at the air duct above her.
As soon as she was escorted onto the prison rig in the middle of the Mo Ce Sea, she was thrown into solitary confinement deep in the belly of the large metal monstrosity. She was dressed in bland red prison garb instead of her usual bright green and gold wide-sleeved blouses and loose pants and her hair was down, flat, boring without its loops and hair accessories.
Taunted by the warden and the guards that she had no way to escape, that her days of resisting Fire Nation rule were finished, and that she was to be shipped off to the Fire Lord’s Palace within two days time when the next shipment of supplies came in.
Serenity stayed quiet through the tauntings. She was used to it and even grew annoyed; She had heard the same spiel from several other wardens, the same taunts and jeers from other guards, and had been promised seven times that she would be meeting Fire Lord Ozai.
Serenity snickered as she plopped down on the cold prison floor and stretched her legs. “After seven times, you think they’d learn that they can’t contain me~” She chuckled, and a small snort came from her crinkled nose. “And eight is my lucky number!”
At least the Fire Nation was kind enough to leave her necklace and bracelets alone...

Katara x male earthbender s/o
Tumblr media
When Katara and her brother Sokka left the South Pole to begin traveling the world with Aang, the young Avatar who’s been frozen in ice for a hundred years, romance wasn’t on her mind in the slightest, but that started to change after meeting a handsome earthbender named s/o.
Katara met s/o in the city of Omashu following their encounter with King Bumi, who insisted that the young man join the Avatar and his friends on their travels.
“Aang, if you’re gonna master the four elements, you will need an earthbending teacher, and I think s/o here will make a perfect one for you.”
He says as s/o steps forward and introduces himself to the group.
“I would love to join you guys if you’ll have me. I’d just like to apologize for everything his majesty put you through, he can be a bit….zany sometimes.”
“It’s fine s/o. My name’s Katara by the way.”
The two benders exchange friendly smiles as s/o then becomes part of the group.
While it didn’t take long for s/o to become friends with Aang and Sokka, he became especially close to Katara, eventually leading to him being confronted by the beautiful waterbender’s brother.
“Ok s/o, what’s up with you and my sister?”
“What do you mean Sokka?”
“Don’t play dumb! You two have gotten awfully close, and I’m not sure I like it. What are your intentions with her?!”
He demands as s/o doesn’t take him too seriously.
“Intentions? Sokka, Katara and I are friends. Nothing more. So just relax ok?”
“Alright, just know if you do try anything funny with her, I have a boomerang with your name on it mister!”
He walks away, but not before giving s/o the ‘I’ve got my eye on you’ hand gesture, causing the earthbender to chuckle softly.
“Sokka’s being silly, Katara’s my closet friend, I can’t possibly have feelings for her….can I?”
The more he think about it, the more s/o realizes that he may actually have feelings for Katara, causing a faint blush to appear on his face.
Meanwhile, Katara has already been aware of how she feels about s/o, and decides that she’s gonna confess to him when the right moment comes, which ends up being not long after Toph joins up with them and becomes Aang’s new earthbending teacher.
“S/o, is something wrong?”
Katara asks him one night after noticing how bummed he’s been lately.
“Yeah, I’m fine. It’s just…the reason King Bumi let me come with you and the others was to teach Aang earthbending, but with Toph taking over that role, I feel…kinda useless now.”
“But you’re not useless s/o, you’re our friend, and we’re happy to have met you. I’m happy to have met you.”
She says as both of them blush before Katara decides that it’s time to confess.
“Hey s/o? I’ve been wanting to tell you something. I…I like you, as in…more than a friend.”
“R-really Katara? Because I like you in that way too. Will you…be my girlfriend?”
He asks as she smiles and kisses him on the cheek.
“I’d love that s/o.”
And with that, the two are officially a couple.
Both of them were nervous to tell the other that they’re together, but everyone was super supportive, even Sokka, much to their surprise.
“I had a gut feeling you two would end up together, but remember s/o, treat my sister right or face the wrath of my trusty boomerang.”
“Heheh, duly noted Sokka. You have my word that I’d never do anything to hurt her.”
Dates are difficult since they’re constantly going from place to place, but Katara and s/o do spend time together shopping for supplies whenever the group stops at a nearby village, otherwise they’re snuggling right up against each other while riding on Appa.
Jealousy is practically nonexistent due to how deeply Katara and s/o care for each other, but can get annoyed when one of them gets flirted with by a local.
“I can’t believe those girls were ogling you right in front of me. Couldn’t they tell that I’m your girlfriend?”
She asks with a huff as s/o wraps his arms around her.
“I guess not, though I couldn’t care less because the only girl my heart belongs to is you Katara.”
For several days after being taught bloodbending by Hama, Katara has been having nightmares due to being traumatized by the ordeal, to which her boyfriend is always there to comfort her.
“Hey hey, it’s gonna be okay Katara. I’m right here for you.”
“It haunts me s/o. Never in my life did I imagine waterbending could be used in such a horrific way! I…I hate it!”
She begins sobbing as s/o is quick to embrace her.
“I know. You’re a good person Katara, and you’d never use would never use that bending on another person.”
(Besides the commander of the Southern Raiders of course, but I can forgive her for that considering the circumstances.)
Being calmed by her boyfriend’s reassurance, Katara sinks into his embrace as she holds him close for the rest of the night.
When it comes to fighting, s/o and Katara always have each other’s backs and work extremely well together.
“Katara! Look out!”
S/o shouts before sending a boulder flying at a Fire Nation soldier who was about ready to attack her.”
“Oh! Thanks for the save s/o!”
“No problem! That makes us even after how you healed my burns from when I fought Zuko last time.”
Upon Katara and Sokka being reunited with their father Hakoda, s/o was beyond nervous when his girlfriend told him that he wants to meet him.
“There’s nothing to worry about s/o. Sokka and I told dad everything about you. He’ll love you.”
“W-well, if you say so Katara.”
Despite being quite intimidated by his girlfriend’s father at first, s/o became relived when Hakoda greeted him with a smile.
“So you’re the guy my daughter’s been dating huh? I’ve heard a lot of great things about you from my kids, it’s nice to meet you s/o.”
“Thank you sir, and it’s an honor to meet you as well.”
When s/o and the gang sneak into the Fire Nation and acquire new clothing in order to blend in, he can’t help but blush when he sees his girlfriend’s outfit.
“How do I look s/o? Do you like it?”
She asks him teasingly as his blush deepens.
“Y-yeah, you look absolutely beautiful Katara.”
He says, causing her to blush now in response.
“T-thank you s/o, you look really good yourself.”
Now that they’re both blushing, their friends can’t help but snicker at the couple, much to their embarrassment.
Things between Katara and s/o continue to be great until after the Firelord is defeated, when Katara suddenly realizes something.
“Where do we go from here s/o?”
She asks him as he looks at her questioningly.
“What do you mean Katara?”
“Since Aang defeated Firelord Ozai, I plan on going back home with Sokka to the South Pole to be with my dad while you’ll be returning to Omashu right? I…I don’t want us to be apart s/o.”
“Neither do I, which is why I’m going with you.”
“Y-you are?”
She looks at her boyfriend in surprise as he smiles.
“Yep. King Bumi and my parents gave me their blessing, so now you’re stuck with me.”
He jokes as she proceeds to hug him tightly.
“This is great! I love you s/o.”
“I love you too Katara.”
The two smile lovingly at each other and kiss, with Katara extremely happy to be with her earthbender s/o.

'You're not helping." - Sokka x GN!Reader
🪃🌑
Tumblr media
Summary - (Y/N) has always struggled with their bending prowess, never having anyone to teach them. After being given some advice by Aang, they still can't seem to focus on controlling the earth nearby. Even though he doesn't know what it's like, Sokka still tries to help.
Contains - Fluff, Flirting, Joking, Sarcasm, and silly fun.
Reader Info - Earthbender, new member of the Gaang, quiet, sarcastic, and VERY ambitious.
TW - None!!
No use of (Y/N)
'Breath.'
𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩.
'You have to focus on what's in front of you. What it is you want to comtrol.'
𝘍𝘰𝘤𝘶𝘴. 𝘐𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶.
They dragged their back foot through the dirt. The crunching sound of rocks against their shoe helped them connect with the world beneath them. They could feel it, the buzzing in their chest, mind, 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘭. They closed their eyes, shakily letting out a breath.
Breath. Focus.
Shifting forward, they stepped with their movement. The dirt below them began to rise, shaking vigorously as it slowly moved upwards. Their eyelashes fluttered as their eyelids twitched. The rocks stopped in place for a moment as their calmness weakened but resumed to it's upwards movement as they took another breath. They let out a low growl before abruptly opening their eyes and throwing their hands forward. They yelled as they did so, trying to hit the target - which happened to be a large rock -- in front of them. Instead of it breaking into a million pieces with the power and force of a true bender, little pebbles bounced off of it, and dirt coated the side.
"God!" They yelled, turning away from the embarrassing sight. "Stupid, stupid, stupid!" The peace was gone, and the only thing they felt was rage. True, pure, rage. "Why do I even try anymore?!" They stomped over to a log that sat only a few feet away. Their brows were knitted together, and they were practically fuming with anger. They would fit perfectly in the fire nation.
Sitting down with a 'thump!', they groaned, muttering a few curses under their breath. The one thing in their life that they've been waiting to master is being practically thrown out of the window because they don't know how to properly seize the opportunity.
They thought to themself, why even try? They won't ever be as skilled at Aang; hell, even Katara! Sokka could even find a way to be a better bender than them. They moaned, letting their head go limp and fall in between the space between their legs. They had only started their travels with the group a month ago, but they still wanted to fit in. Aang was the only chance they had of learning to be a powerful bender, and they were failing.
There was the sound of footsteps and gravel crunching behind them, but they didn't even bother to look up. It would be Aang, who was secretly watching from the bushes, coming to give them advice, again. The space on the log beside them pressed flat against the ground, lifting them up slightly.
"How's it going?" It wasn't Aang, obviously. The voice was more mature, more quiet, more calming. "I hope it's better than what I can see."
"Hello to you too, Sokka." They could recognize that sarcastic tone from a mile away, not like they minded it. Their was something comforting about how ruthless he was when it came to making jokes and poking fun. "Clearly, it's horrible. Can't even make a dust bunny!" They said with a groan. Sokka laughed, shoving their shoulder lightly.
"As expected, you really do suck." Sokka retorted back, smiling down at them. He couldn't see their face, but a grim look was spread across it. They felt like they would burst with tears any second, begin crying at how much wasted potential they had. They let out a small sniffle, a single tear running down their flushed cheeks. Sokka's eyes widened at this, quickly leaning his head towards them to check up on them. "Woah woah, I was just kidding! You're not that bad!"
Sokka wasn't the best at comforting, a trait inherited by his dad. Sokka never really accepted, but mainly deflected his and other people's feelings.
More hot tears began to fall from. their eyes and onto the dirt below them. They were full-on crying now, letting out small whimpers. They felt like such an emotional wreck.
"Hey - urm," Sokka looked around, maybe to find Aang or Katara to help, but they were nowhere nearby. It was just him and a crying person. "It'll be fine, Katara used to suck, and look where she is now!"
The person blow him looked up, eyes red with tears. "Y-you think I suck?" Their voice was shaky, and their nose sounded like it was filled with snot from crying.
"No, no! You're good for a-- uhm-- a starter?" Sokka didn't really know what to say or how to say it.
"I've been practicing for years!" The other was crying even harder now, and Sokka felt bad. He actually felt bad.
Sokka wrapped an arm around them, bringing them close to his chest. "Well -- I'm gonna shut up."
They leaned into his chest, shakily grabbing onto his coat with their hands. His face flushed red at the physical touch, looking up at the trees and trying not to focus on the feeling. "Yeah, you're r-really bad at this." They let out an airy laugh, which made Sokka even more flustered. Sokka just smiled, fully pulling them into a hug.
...
EXTRA!
"Are you sick, Sokka? You're awfully hot." Katara placed a hand on his forhead, looking at him curiously as he stood outside the earthbenders tent. He grabbed her wrist lightly, taking it off his face.
He stopped back, taking a quick glance at Aang, who was smirking viciously. "I'm fine." He was still red from the previous events.
"You suuuuuuure?" Aang wiggled his brows, and Sokka kicked him in the shin.

Broken Glass [Zuko x OC!Sandbender] ~ Ch 1
Tumblr media
Synopsis: The white lotus tasks a sand bender with guiding Prince Zuko and His uncle out of the desert  Pairing: Zuko x OC!Sandbender Word Count: 2.8k
Authors Note: The show didn’t really explore sand benders that much. We really only see them steal Appa and also how the towns are set up based on the Oasis. I tried to do as much research as I can for mentions of them outside of the series, but a lot of the stuff I’m winging it or basing off my knowledge of North African tribes. For actual character design, I imagine Soraya being similar in appearance to The Hammer from Avatar Legends, but I describe the clothes to be sand-colored, like the rest of the sand benders we see in the series. This is an x OC! I think it could be read as easily as an x reader.This fic starts in the flower shop scene where Iroh is talking to the white lotus. For the sake of time, I'm gonna assume everyone already knows and remembers the plot of the series, so I don’t have to rewrite everything. This is also aged up, both Zuko and Soraya are 18.
“You must be Zuko.”
Zuko’s head shoots up as an unknown figure closes the door behind them. The prince takes a defensive stance as he studies the stranger. She’s a woman, dressed in sand-colored tribal clothes, her face and hair covered by a scarf. All Zuko could see were her piercing green eyes lined with thick black eyeliner. He hadn’t been in the desert for long, but inferring she was a sandbender wasn't hard. She stopped walking toward him once he got into a fighting position.
“Relax, Your Highness,” she addressed him again. Zuko had half the mind to scold her mocking tone, but he was more concerned about who this girl was and what business she had knowing who he was. He silently prayed his uncle would hurry up and exit the room so they could leave this town. He wasn’t growing any fonder of the desert heat or people residing in it. Zuko stayed silent, not budging from his stance and the girl rolled her eyes as she let out a sigh. “I have no interest in fighting. The meeting is still going on huh?”
Zuko’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion. He dropped the fighting stance as the girl walked past him, located two cushions on the floor near the back door, and took a seat. “Who are you?” Zuko asked the girl. Her face was still covered, and although she didn’t look like she had any interest in fighting, Zuko wasn’t fond of how comfortable she was making herself. He also was confused about how she knew about the meeting.
“A friend of a friend,” She replied as she rested her back against the wall. She taps the cushion beside her, motioning for him to sit. “It’ll be a while till your uncle is done talking. I suggest you rest your legs now. Don’t know the next chance you’ll have before your journey.”
“I don’t have friends,” Zuko retorted, still not moving from his standing position. The girl shook her head again. She reached up to the corner of her eyes and pulled down the scarf to expose her face. Her skin was deeply tanned. Zuko assumed it was from exposure to the sun. Her eyes weren’t her only striking feature. He couldn’t help but notice how pretty the young woman was, but he quickly pushed the thought aside, reminding himself that she was still a stranger. She wore a soft smile as she looked at him, something he rarely saw from strangers during his travels.
“I hope you stay open to making some. Call me Soraya,” the girl said, reaching her hand out to him. It took a moment for Zuko to shake her hand, but Soraya looked patient. Like she wasn’t going to put it down until he returned the gesture. Once he did, Soraya tapped the cushion next to her again. “Sit.”
Zuko obliged begrudgingly. Soraya’s smile grew, content that he was relaxing slightly. He sat quietly with an annoyed look on his face and his arms crossed over his chest. Soraya studied him from the corner of her eye. This was her first time meeting a prince, let alone fire nation royalty. He wasn’t at all what she imagined. She didn’t know what she expected when she was told the banished prince of the Fire Nation was here. Maybe she had pictured something closer to the Fire Nation wanted posters that were plastered around the village. Soraya thought the buzz cut he wore now looked much better than the long ponytail that he wore in the portraits. She made note that the scar over his left eye, along with the sour expression he wore were the only things from the portrait that gave his identity away. She hoped he’d loosen up a bit, so she could see his face without the grimace. She couldn’t blame him for how defensive he acted. She had witnessed the fight that ensued in the tavern only a few hours before. If it wasn’t for the sudden announcement of their presence, she might not have realized who they were.
As much as Zuko was uncomfortable sitting beside this stranger, he was becoming more uncomfortable with the silence. He had been in the shop for much longer than this girl, and his patience was wearing thin. Soraya, on the other hand, looked completely calm. From their previous conversation, Zuko assumed she knew much more about the meeting going on inside than he did. So he decided to ask about it. “What’s going on inside that room? and what does this have to do with a Pai Sho tile?”
Zuko’s questions came out a lot more hurried than he intended. Soraya looked at him surprised to hear him speak up, but soon the smile she wore returned to her face. And why do you keep smiling at me like that? Zuko thought but didn’t dare speak it.
“It’s a White Lotus meeting, named after the tile. You are not a member which is why I’m assuming you are sitting out here. That is as much as I can tell you, but I’m sure your uncle would be able to explain it to you more. They’re working on a plan to get you out of here safely,” Soraya responded, not sure the prince would be satisfied with the answer.
“You’re sitting out here too. Does that mean you are also not a member?” Zuko retorted, obviously annoyed with the whole situation. Soraya shook her head.
“I am, but Fung sent me out to get your passports,” She pulled out two passports from her pocket setting them on her lap. She took the opportunity to tease him, “Think he also told me to keep an eye on you, make sure you don’t burn the shop down.”
“I don’t need to be babysat!” Zuko yelled before angrily throwing his head in his hands, but it came out sounding more like a whine. Soraya laughed quietly.
“No one is babysitting you. I’m sure they’ll be done soon. Then you’ll be on your way.” Soraya heard Zuko let out a deep sigh at her response.
It took hours until the meeting was done. Zuko had fallen asleep against the wall beside Soraya. She was glad she offered him a place to sit down. She was worried if she didn’t he would have stayed standing for the rest of the night. She could have joined the meeting at any point. No one had told her she needed to keep an eye on the prince, but he intrigued her. She didn’t mind being around him. Every once in a while, she’d turn her head to look towards Zuko. She couldn’t help but study his face. He was handsome, she supposed, especially when his face wasn’t scrunched up in a scowl. He looked tired from traveling for so long. Soraya normally enjoyed talking to travelers about their journeys outside of the desert, but she could tell he needed the sleep more. So she waited the remaining hours of the night until Fung exited the door with Iroh following close behind. She stood up and offered a bow to both of them.
“It is an honor to share the presence with a Grand Lotus,” Soraya bowed deeper as she addressed Iroh. She was greeted with a big smile on the old man’s face.
“Please, child. The pleasure is all mine.”
“Soraya, have you secured the passports?” Fung asked her. She instantly brought them out of her pockets. She handed them to Fung. “I hope you have yours as well.”
Soraya looked at him confused. She was only told to get two passports. Nothing was said about why she would need one. “I do have a valid passport, but sir, I wasn’t informed that I would need one.”
The conversation seemed to have woken Zuko up. As soon as he saw Soraya talking to his uncle, he jumped up to stand alongside them. “What’s going on? Is the club meeting over?”
“Everything is taken care of. We're heading to Ba Sing Se,” Iroh responded to his nephew. Iroh and Fung Bowed to each other respectively. Iroh turned back to look at Soraya “And our new friend will be joining us.”
Soraya’s eyes widened. This hadn’t been part of the plan. She regretted her decision to not join the meeting so she could have argued against it, but she wasn’t in a place where she could deny the request. She would lead the Grand Lotus and Fire Nation prince to Ba Sing Se safely and then she would return to the desert. Fung would often task her as a navigator. Soraya knew the desert better than the back of her hand, but he had never told her to go as far as this. It wasn’t like she had anything else do to for the next few weeks, still, she wished she had time to prepare.
“Why would we go to the Earth Kingdom capital‌?” Zuko questioned, “And why are we bringing her?”
The annoyance in his voice at the second question irritated the girl. Soraya did her best to keep her composure. She wasn’t about to lose her temper in front of her elders, especially not someone as important as a Grand Lotus.
“The city is filled with refugees. No one will notice a few more,” Fung replied. “Soraya knows how to navigate the desert better than anyone. She is the best Sandbender I know. She’ll get you there safely.”
“We can hide in plain site there. And it’s the safest place in the world from the Fire Nation. Even I couldn’t break through the city,” Iroh continued with a shrug. At that moment. The bells on the front door signaled someone entering the shop. A young man approaches the group. Soraya recognizes him as another white lotus member.
“There are two men out on the street looking for our guests. You need to leave now,” He said quickly.
—
Soraya exited the flower shop, pulling two big flowerpots on a wooden wagon, thus beginning their journey to Ba Sing Se. She was looking forward to being further away from the shop because she was quickly growing tired of pulling the wagon behind her. Zuko was also not enjoying hiding in an old flower pot. After what seemed like an hour, Zuko pushed his head outside of the pot and looked over at Soraya. He could only see her back. From their lack of surroundings, he assumed they were already far into the desert.
“How much longer do we have to be in these stupid pots?” Zuko asked in an irritated tone that Soraya realized she was going to have to get used to. She turned back to look at him and stopped pulling the cart. Iroh popped his head out of his pot as well.
“If you prefer to walk, be my guest. But we’re nowhere close to your destination,” Soraya replied to the prince. Zuko pulled himself out of the pot, turning around to help Iroh out next. He immediately started walking past Soraya. She sighed, quickly burying the wagon in the sand with her bending. “Where are you going?”
Zuko didn’t turn back. “We don’t need your help anymore. We can make it there on our own.”
“You don’t know where you’re going. You won’t last a day without me,” She called out to him.
“Prince Zuko, I think it is wise to listen to the young lady. She knows this land better than we do,” Iroh Chimed in. Iroh and Soraya followed after him. A few paces behind. “I’m sorry my nephew is so stubborn. We are lucky to have you with us. I hope he soon will see it too.”
Soraya sighed as they watched Zuko walking ahead. His steps were hard as he charged forward, but the force served useless against the sand. He had to fight to keep his feet from burying themselves underneath him.. She offered a smile to Iroh. “I can’t say I understand, but I am thrilled to be of service to you, Master. My father has told me a lot about you. He was the one who taught me the ways of the White Lotus.”
“There is no need for formalities, dear. Call me Iroh,” Iroh smiled back brightly. “Fung filled me in all about you and your father. I wish I had the chance to apologize directly for taking you away from him for this.”
Soraya shook her head. “He is used to me disappearing for months. I am mostly nomadic these days. Father prefers to stay with the tribe. As long as I stay in communication with Fung, he doesn’t mind so much.”
“I see,” Iroh replied. “It seems you are a wondering spirit like Zuko. You must have just as many travel adventures as we do. I am sure you two will get along great.”
“Is he… always this moody?” She was hesitant to ask, but she felt like she needed to know fully what she was getting into. She didn’t see how Iroh could be so confident. Nothing about any of their interactions made Soraya confident that he’d warm up to her. “When I walked into the shop he looked ready to fight me.”
“His position in life has not made it easy to trust those around him. He has been labeled a traitor to his whole nation and banished by his father. Patience is the most valuable thing we can give him,” Iroh sighed, watching Zuko as he walked ahead. His pace had slowed down. He no longer walked as angrily. Iroh expected the sand bender to ask more, but she showed no reaction to the mention of the Fire Nation. They had almost caught up to Zuko when Iroh brought it to question. “The White Lotus serves to transcend the boundaries between nations. We devote our lives to the study of all elements, but it is understandable to let violence influence our perceptions of each other. I am sure it is not easy for you to join us.”
Zuko now walked by his uncle’s side, Soraya walking on the opposite side of his uncle. He had only half been listening to their conversation. He didn’t know why he cared to hear what his uncle had been talking to her about. Zuko also didn’t see why she had joined them, but he was curious why she had agreed to help them. She was the first Earth Kingdom person they had come across who didn’t automatically hate them. Once a stranger realizes they were Fire Nation, all kindness shown to them would be thrown out the window. Zuko thought back to Lee, the young Earth Kingdom boy, and how quickly his feelings turned on him after learning his true identity. He expected the same from everyone. Soraya knew who he was all along. And yet, in that flower shop, she greeted him with a smile. He couldn’t figure out why. So he waited quietly for an answer to his uncle.
“I realized it was pointless long ago to swear hatred of an entire element. Fire itself is not evil. Any element has the power to be used for harm in the hands of the wrong people. The White Lotus is where I find my comfort despite the war. It keeps me grounded,” Soraya replied after a long while of silence. Eventually she pulled down her scarf to reveal her face once more. She turned her head to face Iroh and noticed she had Zuko’s attention as well. “My mother was a firebender. She was murdered for being a traitor to her Nation. I can’t hate something that was such an important part of her, but I can despise what killed her. Any traitor of the Fire Nation is a friend of mine.”
Soraya smiled as she locked eyes with Zuko, who was unable to hide the shock from his face. A month ago, he would have been offended by her last statement. Maybe even threaten to throw her in prison as soon as he returned home. Now, he didn’t think he cared. He after all was hiding from the nation he was destined to rule. He was a traitor afterall. Soraya knew that. Her words felt like both a threat and a vow of trust. He looked at Soraya as she smiled. It was the same kind smile she had shown to him in the flower shop. He couldn’t remember the last time someone looked at him so kindly. He decided it wasn’t a bad thing this time. Maybe it wasn’t a bad idea to make a friend of her after all.
“Soraya,” Zuko addressed her, causing both his uncle and the girl to look at him surprised. Zuko stopped walking, turned to face them and bowed in her direction. “I’m sorry for being so rude. We are honored to have you with us on our journey.”
The sandbender stopped and watched as the boy held his bow before her. Her smile grew, causing her to quickly lift the scarf over her face to conceal her grin. Soraya didn’t waste time before returning his bow. “Thank you. The honor is all mine.”

A.N. ch 1 was mostly set up but next chapter with have a lot more Zuko x Soraya interactions. This is my first time writing for Zuko so I'd love to hear your thoughts!!

Title: THE LOVE I HAVE FOR YOU IS STRONGER THAN THE BEATING HEART IN YOUR CHEST…
TW: dead (nothing graphic)
Zuko x reader
The creation of heartbenders comes from my brain, please, no plagiarism or ask before copying (put my name, I would love to read your fics talking about Avatar <3)
English is unfortunately not my mother tongue, sorry if mistakes are present in this fic!
Tumblr media
Aang was the last airbender. He disappeared after learning that he was the next avatar. Completely reclusive from his old world. He did not know how to save the world. He could not have the courage to save the world from the destruction of the fire nation. But he remembered that he knew a family that could help him learn the power of the land. The Y/N family of the Earth nation.
-----------------------------
The group had just arrived in a temple of the nation of the Earth. It was rare for the people of this nation to accept strangers especially people who came from the fire nation. Zuko was uncomfortable but his uncle was even more so. He had been sent to this temple to destroy it in the early days of the war and the men of the fire nation had decided to remain in the vicinity of this temple. Iroh, Zuko’s uncle, had been sent to the land nation to capture and kill the heartbenders. For many, heartbenders were abominations of life and when he was younger, Iroh thought so too. But after the loss of his son, the rumors of the heartbender abomination had become untrue to him. He had seen the warmth and the angelism of the power of life, but the horrors committed by the nation of fire, could not be repaired. Indeed, the men of the earth nation from this temple had a secret: it had a different type of earth power. He had the power of life. He had the power to revive plants but also humans. Heartbenders had become increasingly scarce. Because of the war. But also the devastation done in this temple. The Y/N family, the most important family in this temple since this family had decided to protect the back of the different avatars that had been there for generations and generations. Aang knew a man named Yuan Y/N, the great-grandfather of the Y/N family. He had known the young avatar during his early years and Aang had decided to visit him so that heHere comes to help him master the power of the earth but with other than the basic ability, he wanted to learn the power of life and control the dead.
-----------------------------
Aang began to speak so that his friends would know what to know about this people. He was not like other people on earth. He remained reclusive to avoid war but also heartbender trafficking.
“Yuan was a child of the people of Kyoshi Temple. These people did not like strangers because the Y/N family was the last family of heartbenders.” He heard slight exclamations after saying this sentence, Aang smiled. Yes, the Y/N family was really great and he loved to have as a friend this frail boy yet so generous. “Heartbenders are increasingly lonely and Yuan was one. He could grow plants but also revive them. His power was one of the most beautiful, no one can make me say otherwise. I don’t even know how or why people are chasing them when their powers could bring peace to the land and allow us to get along with everyone on the land— But the heartbender hunt was declared shortly after I was promoted to my role as an air nation monk and I was no longer allowed to approach Yuan. We lost contact shortly after he had his twelfth birthday…I would like to know how he is now…”
“Aang, this man must be over 112 years now… And even more so if he was a heartbenders… These men and women were considered traitors among all the nations…. I’m sorry, Aang, but your friend has unfortunately passed away.” Katara looked at the young avatar and she saw the tears coming in her friend’s eyes.
“Hey… Whether he’s still alive or not, maybe he has grandchildren? Maybe he has a family that can help you?” Sokka looked at his friend trying to comfort him. "And even though he has no family, he is still here." The boy of the water nation pointed to the heart of the young avatar and he saw a slight smile appeared on the face of the air boy.
“Thank you Sokka, thank you so much for comforting me!” Aang sighed before turning his gaze to a mountain where a statue of Kyoshi could be seen from afar. "Here we are, friends!"
-----------------------------
The village was right in front of them. They had walked for long hours to reach this village hidden by a dense forest. The men and women of the nation of the earth knew how to hide in their element.
While Sokka was at the front of the group, a weapon dangerously approached his neck. He could not believe his eyes. He had not seen the weapon appear and fell to the ground. Katara approached his brother but he was forbidden to approach. Aang moved to avoid being seen, perhaps this village was with the fire nation.
Suddenly, a masked figure appeared in front of them. "What are you doing here? How did you find my village?" The man who spoke was slightly larger than Sokka and was much more muscular than him, he dominated them all.
Aang approached the man and began to speak. "My name is Aang. I am an airbender and I am also the avatar everyone was waiting for.” He was cut by an exclamation of the man who seemed septic. But who wouldn’t, the airbenders were all gone a hundred years ago now. “I came to see an old friend and his name is Yuan. That’s why I know the location of your village so precisely. We are not with the fire nation and we will never be.
“Well…” A voice was heard behind the masked man. “I didn’t expect to see the young boy who accompanied my father as a child again.” A woman stood and looked at the young avatar. His eyes looked like Yuan’s. Warm and full of joy. As if the war had not touched him.
“Mother…You had to stay in the village…” The masked boy took off his mask, revealing his face to the other people around him. He had a very beautiful face and his C/E eyes allowed to see all the horrors he had already seen.
“I know, my son! But…” The woman looked at her son and winked at him. The young man broke down on the spot.
"And do you know where she left?" The young man began to run towards the forest and disappeared quickly, so dense was the forest.
“I feel sorry for my son. He never liked it when people approached our village. War leaves irreparable scars for the men and women living on this land.” Aang’s group was completely charmed by the woman. "Oh, I didn’t introduce myself. My name is Y/M/N Y/N and the man you are looking for is my grandfather…and unfortunately he passed away over 50 years ago… He died for protecting our village…May his soul be at peace…” Aang felt his throat cut. He expected it a little, many of his friends had died but he felt more and more alone as time passed.
Katara, seeing that no one was answering the woman, decided to answer her. “Good morning, Madam… We wanted to find a heartbender-" The look on the woman’s face changed to show fear.
“Please…Don’t say this power too loud… The men of the fire nation may have followed you and if they know we are hiding heartbenders, they may kill us for treason…” Aang looked at the woman’s eyes and turned to where her boy had gone.
“One of your children is a heartbender?” Iroh watched the woman decompose. “We don’t want to harm your children… The young man needs someone to train him in this secret power of which your people are the last to know the characteristics of this power and thus form Aang.”
“My daughter is not here yet and the heartbenders were killed in one of the fire nation attacks…” The woman looked back at the group. “But we can wait for her, she will return as always. Let the feast begin for the return of the Avatar, our savior and our hope.”
-----------------------------
Zuko had decided not to participate in the party that had been organized for the arrival of the avatar. He did not feel comfortable with others and he did not want to participate in a feast with a people who had suffered death because of his nation. He saw people tired of this war, crying when one of the statues representing the soldiers of the nation of the earth became black which announced the death of the soldiers. His uncle had tried not to show himself too much. He felt pity for those men and women who lost family members because of his brother’s madness. The madness of his brother who had caused the death of thousands of people.
Zuko walked for long minutes when he heard two voices talking behind a tree. He recognized the boy who had faced Sokka, thinking he was a killer-archer. He was protecting the girl with Y/C/H hair who was with him and who never seemed to leave him.
The boy had just asked the girl beside him. Zuko hid behind a tree so that he could continue to listen to the conversation of the two young people of the nation of the earth.
“Well, one is the avatar, so it’s okay for mother to want him to stay here and learn a little bit more about the power of heartbenders…” The girl had just spoken and Zuko looked at the girl’s hand, whose flower magically appeared. He looked at the girl with incomprehension. The heartbenders had disappeared during the temple’s first attack, so how is it possible that a girl could have a power gone?
“Stop Y/N! I beg you to stop using this silly power. If someone finds out, they’ll throw you into a war you don’t need to be in. You don’t have to.” The boy had just pulled the flower out of the hands of the presumed Y/N. Zuko could not let go of his gaze of the girl.
“But N/A…My power is to protect people…I want to save…” Y/N started a sentence but stopped seeing his brother’s disappointed look. He never looked at her like that, and she knew that he only wanted her well. He wanted her to stay alive, he wanted to be crazy. He was selfish and N/B knew it. He prayed every day that the war would spare his younger sister. He wanted her never to have that stupid power. That cursed power.
The power of heartbenders was a power that many nations wanted to have. It allowed to control the life of the forests but also the life of the men who surrounded the heartbenders. Heartbenders could kill people who were around them but they could also heal serious wounds and revive people. This power was known to few but the leaders of the different nations knew that this power existed and that if they captured heartbenders, the war would end.
“Listen Y/N, I don’t want to lose you…” Suddenly, Zuko heard a cracked branch on his left side. He turned his head to the side but saw only flowers appear. He turned his face Y/N and Y/B but found no one. They had disappeared and Zuko did not know where he could have gone. As he decided to turn back, he felt a blade slipping on his neck. He turned his body to see his attacker and fell face to face with Y/B. The boy’s C/E eyes pierced his skull as the blade pressed harder and harder on his neck.
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" The boy of the earth retreated slightly when he saw light flames appear at the fingertips of the boy whom he kept under his blade. “You’re a spy of the fire nation…What are you doing here? Your people have already done enough harm to the temple of Kyoshi, my people have suffered because of yours…” The young man’s blade clung even stronger to his neck.
“I’m not with the fire nation… I ran away from my life to help the Avatar Aang, I’m with him, you can ask him if you don’t believe me.” Zuko looked at the boy and he found a resemblance to the girl who was with him, before they disappeared.
"Are you with Avatar Aang? I don’t believe you." Y/B looked away for a few seconds to cross the eyes of his sister, Y/N. But these few seconds of exchange allowed Zuko to defend himself and sent him slamming on one of the trees behind the two men. The tree sucked the young man from the ground as if to protect him from the impact and thus afford to have a plan to protect his sister. The main person protected was his younger sister and he could not afford to lose her. He could not lose another family member and most importantly, Y/N had to stay alive to rebuild the forests destroyed by the fire nation. Heartbenders were born to accomplish this mission and until it was not fulfilled, heartbenders could not rest in peace. They were reborn endlessly, until life was calm and peaceful again for the people remaining alive.
"Why don’t you believe me? I wouldn’t lie about something so serious." Zuko couldn’t understand, he didn’t know how to do it. And if no one believed him when he said he was no longer part of the fire nation. "I hate the fire nation as much as you do. I hate her from the bottom of my soul. I betrayed my homeland to help Avatar Aang as your family betrayed the nation of earth to help Avatar Kyoshi… Your family is no longer part of the nation of the earth, that’s why no one stays with you and people want to capture you more and more. They want to take your sister, Y/N, right?”
“DON’T TALK ABOUT MY SISTER! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO TAKE HER NAME OUT OF YOUR MOUTH!” Zuko had just hit a nerve. He had touched the rope that held the power of Y/B’s earth in perfect constant. The powers of the earth were connected with the feelings of the person and sometimes, when the people of the nation of the earth lost control of their powers, accidents could happen because no one could make them go back in the right way. When an earthbender lost control, it was difficult to regain control of his men. The land began to crack under Zuko’s feet and the fire nation boy began to panic, he did not want this to happen. He was not to upset a member of another nation, especially the land. Their emotional instability was far too strong for anyone to beat.
“I’m sorry…Stop…” Zuko begged the young man because he seemed really about to kill him. Suddenly, C/H hair appeared before his eyes and he let go a slight smile.
“Y/B. Stop, you don’t have to fight in front of the Kyoshi statue. She’s going to get angry.” The girl approached her brother and touched his cheek. She turned to Zuko to see if he was okay. "Are you all right, son of the fire nation?"
“My name is Zuko and I prefer you to call me that…” Zuko lowered his head but fingers touched his chin to raise his head.
“Raise your head. The men of the fire nation are not all the same. Many men have deserted the ranks of this nation. You don’t have to lower your head, you’re a strong person.” Suddenly, a bell rang in the forest and Y/B reached out immediately.
«THE VILLAGE IS UNDER ATTACK!» Y/N had just screamed and Y/B looked at her sister, making her understand that she had to go somewhere else. "To my Gods, the temple is defenseless."
The girl began to run as the trees closed in her path so that no one could pass into her lair and kill the young heartbender.
"Follow my sister! Protect her at the risk of your life! I beg you, she is the hope of my village. When the war is over, it can help our nations rebuild nature, but if it dies before, the omens made by the gods will be more and more present… And it is not war that will kill us, but nature around us…” Y/B rushed in the opposite direction of his sister and he disappeared, absorbed by the earth, so he was an earthbender.
-----------------------------
Kyoshi’s temple was one of the most beautiful that Zuko had seen. The wood and the mother-of-pearl color complemented the other colors that were present on the temple. The sunset reflected, giving yellow and golden colors on all the towers.
He arrived in front of the wooden door, with different flowers on top and it was slightly open. He chuckled slightly, realizing that the girl was extremely naive, thinking that no one would know that no one would be there. He thought back to the fire nation, to his family that he expected to wait impatiently while the reality was quite different.
Zuko whispered this sentence calmly, but this simple action reverberated against the walls of the temple. The phrase he thought harmless was ultimately something extremely catastrophic but whatever this simple resource could allow Zuko and Y/N to possibly postpone the war in the temple.
"Oh my gods!" Zuko turned and heard an insult behind his back. "Zuko, didn’t you?" The young man nodded and the girl gave him a slight, proud smile. “You have to watch the temple door while I collect the urns from the men and women of my village. To survive, I have to plant them in the forest but I never had time to do it because of the men of the fire nation who were spying on my family… I’m sorry you’re the one who has to put up with me, usually it’s -". She was cut by hot lips on hers, preventing her from continuing her rambling. She felt Zuko’s lips twist to form a smile and her breath became more erratic.
But there was no time for kisses in this war. Zuko promised to kiss him even harder when this battle was over.
-----------------------------
Zuko was fighting the men of the fire nation. He was trying to prevent them from entering Kyoshi Temple. If they came back, he wouldn’t forgive himself. The young heartbender had asked her not to bring anyone into the temple until she had removed the ballot boxes of the various men and women who had died during the first attack on the village. But the men of the fire were more and more numerous and Zuko could no longer fight, the wounds and burns became more and more painful and he could no longer bear it.
Suddenly, as he was fighting, an arrow fell on the torso of the man who was going to impale him with his weapon. He turned his gaze like the enemy men who were surprised to see a man with bad points with serious injuries on his upper body. Injuries that should have killed him. How is it possible that someone could survive such serious injuries? But his answer was quickly answered when he saw Y/N, black smoke surrounding him and he could see the urns of the men open, making him quickly understand that she had just used her power.
"Y/N?" Zuko looked at the girl who was in trance. The powers of heartbenders were likened to bad spells or black magic. But when Zuko saw Y/N trying to protect him so hard, he felt his heart beat stronger. No one had ever defended him and he had always been alone. When he saw a girl, whom he considered weak at the base, showing his power to people who wanted to harm him, he could not feel so confident. His flames mounted on his arm and he approached the girl of the earth.
"Are you okay?" Zuko asked the girl who was looking at him with fear.
“Are you asking me if I’m okay when you’re literally dying on me? Are you serious? I don’t even know what to say so that…” She was cut off by the young man’s loud laugh. “Stop mocking me, Zuko…”
“No one has ever worried about me…I don’t even know what to say…I mean, thank you!” Zuko looked at the girl with a bright smile and in his eyes he saw the hope he had been waiting for years now. He no longer needed to return to the nation of fire, he could stay with that girl who had become his beacon of hope and life.
“Well… I’m glad I could give you back your courage… I don’t know how I did it, but you’re a big guy and you don’t have to think otherwise…” The girl leaned towards the young man but was interrupted by a fireball, touching her left cheek. She looked at the young man with disbelief, her cheeks becoming increasingly red. She stepped back and got up, embarrassed by his behavior.
-----------------------------
The last soldier of the fire fell to the ground, face down. Zuko had just killed him with his flames and his shoulders relaxed when he saw no one standing. No one standing?
His eyes turned from left to right and his heart fell into his chest when he saw the body of the girl he was supposed to protect. His lungs could no longer give him the breath he needed and a cry resounded in the forest where only he could hear his purpose. Tears running down her cheeks making her breathing increasingly complicated…

hii i was wondering if it was possible if you could do a korra x earthbender fem reader who is lin’s daughter?? thank you so much!! 🫶🫶
Ooo ,yes ofc <3
Tumblr media
The best view
"Stop staring." You words cut the thick silence in the room.
"I'm sorry,I just never expected Beifong to have a kid." She crosses her arms, looking you up and down. You scoff anoyed at her rude staring. "So? It doesn't mean I'm a painting so you can stare at me." You roll your eyes."Like mother like daughter." She mumbles,loud enough for you to hear her.
"I could never be like my mother." Her eyes follow you figure as you walk towards her. The girl then continues,"How come you're not in uniform?"her gaze eyes you up and down. "I'm not a police officer." You speak, making eye contact with her. "I just thought that if she had a kid, she would want you to work with her or something." She tilts her head looking at you. "She did,It was me who didn't want to."you slump down on the couch.
"I saw you bend,and I think you're pretty strong." Her body remains standing. "My bending is not the problem." You leave out a small smile at her compliment.
"Then what is it?" Before you could say anything, Lin enters the room. "Chief," your gaze follows Lin's.
"I have a matter to discuss with the two of you." Lin's gaze moves from you to the girl.
"I mean,that's the whole point why you got me here.* The dark haired girl shrugs,sitting down on the couch.
"(Name) ,I want to introduce you to Korra,the avatar." You look at the girl with furrowed brows. "She's...the avatar?" You tilt your head,how could she be the avatar? She looks fine or whatever,but you imagined her to be something... different?
"Of course I'm the avatar! Who else would it be?" She chuckles at your confused expression,Lin continues. "Yes,and you will show her around Republic city,and make sure nothing happens to her." Lin commands, staying strong in her uniform, a fierce look on her face (like usual dare I say).
Your brows remain furrowed, "Why would you trust me with this task?" Your arms now crossed, suspicious of her trust in you.
"The two of you are close to age,and since you're my daughter,I trust you make sure nothing happens to Korra." Her words take you by surprise,you nod, smiling you nod. "Nothing will happen to the Avatar in my presence,I promise." You feel so proud,she finally has something important for you to do.
"I don't need protection,I'm the avatar? remember?" Korra crosses her arms.
"And I'm the Chief in this town ,and if you want to walk freely in my town you will do so with my daughters protection." Lin narrows her eyes at Korra.
"I am more than capable of taking care of myself!" Her defiant nature amuses you.
"if you wish to remain in Republic City you will obey my rules. End of story." Your mother slams her hand on the table, clearly done with the girl's comments.
"Fine! Whatever." Korra ends up leaving the room, allowing you and your mother to be alone.
"This girl..." She sighs,sitting down on the couch facing the one you're on.
"Working with her will be a challenge." You joke, earning another sigh from your mother.
"You're a big girl,I know you're capable or I would have assigned you for her." You smile at her (sort of?) compliment.
"I'll do my best." Earns a nod from Lin.
You warmed up to her rather quickly,and the other way around. Turns out she's a pleasant company to be around.
For the next few weeks you spend time with Korra,even getting to know her better, sharing a few things about yourself.
Besides the fact that she's a little cocky (a little more) Korra is a great person to be around.
"So tell me! how was it being raised by Beifong? Is she always like that? Did she want you to take after her?" You smile at her curiosity, "Sometimes, but as a child she never implied I become a soldier,like her" the memories bringing a nice warmth in your chest.
"My mother would sometimes take me outside of Republic City, we would hike for hours to get to the most breath taking view I could see as a child." Korra watches your expression, she must admit,you're very pretty.She finds herself staring at you quite often,but she can't figure out why you're so captivating.
Once you lock eyes with her she forgets anything she wanted to say before,just staring at your face.
"Republic city is boring,I know a place you would like." You smile,taking her hand in yours, passing by many streets.
She looks at you confused as you tell her to hold on.
The earth beneath your feet started rising up,until you decided it was enough.
You started walking deeper and higher to a place only you knew.
"Where are we going (Name)?" She speaks between chuckles.
"You'll see,just trust me." You look back at her ,winking.
Her face is slightly warm to touch,Korra follows after you,passing by trees and going higher up a hill.
If she wasn't so busy watching your body instead of the place you were leading her too she would have noticed the view already.
"Were here!" Your voice brings her back,gaze moving away from your body ,now focusing on her surroundings.
Hands still entangled you stop , letting go of her hand. Her eyes fall on her now empty hand, slightly disappointed.
"Korra,look." She follows your voice, gaze falling on the breath taking view in front of her.
Your hand takes hers,leading her next to you on the grass.
"It's beautiful,isn't it?" She looks at you, analyzing your face ,reading its expressions like it's an open book for her to learn from.
"It is." Your eyes meet,locked on each other. Your hands entangled on the grass, the looks shared between the two of you speak like no words ever could.
She leans in,one hand now cups your cheek,her skin is so soft..
"Korra I..." You struggle to find the right words,mind clouded by the thought of her and only her. Fortunately there is no need for words,not now.
Her eyes scan your face for any kind of resistance,any kind of hesitance,but there's none in sight.
Her lips crash into yours in a soft ,loving kiss.
Korra's hands are cuping your cheek, while yours are around her waist. Fingers gently rubbing the material on her skin.
The kiss lasts a few seconds,but it feels like time stopped.
You move away from Korra's lips, smiling while looking at her bright blue eyes.
"I just kissed Beifong's daughter." You laugh softly at her words,placing a strand of hair behind her ear.
"The avatar kissed me." You grin,noticing her proud smile.
"And I'd do it again."
.
.
.
Took me a little to search for a plot ,but here it is. Hope you like it ;).
Depending on the attention this fic is getting,maybe I will make a part two.

The Jade Ghost
Blue Spirit Zuko x Bloodbender Reader
Tumblr media
This story is completely different to what I usually do, but I've been watching Avatar: The Last Airbender lately and really hope ya'll love Zuko as much as I do.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was insufferable. Zuko, the crowned prince of the fire nation, was now a fugitive and stuck in some sort of village begging for spare change on the ground with Uncle Iroh. If that wasn't embarrassing enough, those who decided to mock him and his uncle made it all the more worse, the deep, unsettling anger within him turning into an unhinged rage. So he waited.
And when the sun would set and the darkness came to help hide Zuko's doings, he adorned his blue mask. The oxtail sabers in each hand felt good, like he'd gained some sort of control over his situation. Then he'd prowl through the night as though he was a ghost. The Blue Spirit. Taking change and food from those that looked like they had enough, or taking revenge on those that had mocked him or his uncle. He'd swiftly managed to throw one of the men that spat at Iroh into a wooden barrel. Splinters decorated the floor as well as the change the man had taken from them earlier in the day. Zuko grabbed the gold pieces and slipped them into his pocket. As he turned down the street, an opulent looking home being his next target, a blurred figure metres before him quickly caught his attention.
Zuko ducked his head to the side, just missing a dagger as it found its home in the wooden beam beside his head. Zuko turned on his heel to see three hooded men coming his way, armed and ferocious. He was able to swiftly disarm the first thug, throwing him into the wall of a nearby home. The other two put up a better fight. Zuko was focused on pinning the second ones arms, given he happened to be an Earthbender, but focusing his attention on the man almost made him forget the third thug. As Zuko turned and expected the blow to his head, something glinted in the air. Flashed as quick as a light. A swoosh sound came after it and the third man hit the ground hard.
Zuko dealt a devastating strike to the Earthbender before training his attention onto another person. Someone new. Adorned in an emerald green robe, her hair was pulled back into a tight bun, a single gold chop stick running through it. Her face, however, was concealed. An immaculate mask that looked as though it was carved from jade sat on her face, a mask almost similar to Zuko's. Steady eyes watched the third man through the jade mask as she spun a long, gold staff between her fingers. Her eyes flickered up to Zuko though, and he barely caught what she said. "Behind you."
The Earthbender was on his feet and tore two large boulders from the pavement either side of him. Zuko slipped past each boulder as they were thrown at him. After that, Zuko's next movements were a blur as he, the two thugs, and the Jade Ghost all fought relentlessly. She seemed to be helping, so he let her help...for now.
The Earthbender managed to get his first hit of the night and knocked both Zuko and the Jade Ghost to the ground. Zuko was on his feet, ready to attack yet again, but then something happened. Something odd. Something Zuko couldn't explain.
The Earthbender's arms twitched before they tangled together. Then, with an agonising cry he dropped to the ground. Zuko's eyes cut over to the girl that laid beside him. Focus was evident in her eyes as she manoeuvred her hands in a fascinating way. Hand flat, resting in the centre of her face before she lowered her arm and moved it in a wave like formation. Zuko clutched onto his sabers. Felt his hot, laboured breath against his mask. The Earthbender suddenly fell unconscious...and then Zuko realised.
Bloodbending.
The Jade Ghost panted as she got to her feet and picked up her staff. Turning to run, she was met with the ocean blue dragon mask. He was tall, dressed in black, ready for a confrontation as he gripped onto his sabers. The Jade Ghost just stopped herself before bumping into him.
"Who are you?" He asked, tone severe.
"Hey, I'm not asking you questions. Am I?"
"I suggest you answer." He threatened.
"Listening, I've been watching you. You're not bad...you've helped a lot of my people whilst wearing your little mask. Like me. So how about this..."
She slipped down an alleyway and with the shake of his head, Zuko quickly followed. She didn't want a confrontation, not when the sun was soon to rise and she didn't see the man in the mask as a threat.
As she sprinted and took the chance to look over her shoulder, relief spread through her chest. The Blue Spirit wasn't there. But suddenly, he was jumping down from a nearby roof. He grabbed onto her as he dropped down, and the pair tumbled over the ground before coming to a stop. The Jade Ghost tried her staff before it was knocked from her hands. Then, she resorted to using hand-to-hand combat. The strikes were fast and precise, but Zuko was just as fast and precise as her. She slipped his arm behind his back and put him in a hold before he broke out and pinned her against the wall.
Masks centimetres from each other, he leant in to ask another question.
"That was bloodbending, wasn't it?"
"Wanna find out?" She hissed.
His determination faltered. They stood and watched each other, and Zuko felt something he couldn't ignore. What was it? Was he impressed? Was he admiring her? He almost wanted to hit his head against the wall.
Suddenly, a light, green dust was thrown into his face. An irritable itch began in his eyes as he quickly let go of her. And just like that, she slipped away into the night. Just like a ghost. As he tried to search for her, Zuko quickly became annoyed. Dumbfounded. Curious.
Zuko made it back to the sorry place him and his uncle were calling 'home' for a while, hiding his mask and sabers inside of a deep crevice in the house they were staying in.
"Where did you go?" Iroh asked, sipping his fourth cup of tea as he watched his nephew angrily enter the room. The sun was filtering into the room, it's beams warm and welcoming.
"I had to clear my head. Tell me uncle, do you know anything about the Jade Ghost?"
"The Jade Ghost? Hmm," His uncle stroked his beard as he sifted through his memories. "Nope, never heard of him."
"Her." Zuko corrected as he stared out the window and wondered where she went. Who she was. How she learnt to bloodbend.
"Until next time Jade Ghost."
Chapter One - Tribal Trust
Stable Ground - Sokka x OC
🪃⛰️
Tumblr media
I apologize if this seems boring, it is the first chapter!
...
The air was thick in the forest west of Omashu. It was hard to breathe, especially when you were running away from an angry hoard of Fire Nation soldiers. After the Gaang had their 'fun' with Bumi, they had decided to travel west.
Usually, they would escape on Appa's furry back, soaring through the air and laughing at the soldiers below, but of course he had gone to find food about 10 minutes before the ambush.
Katara was using the water from a nearby lake to whip soldiers into the air, making icicles and throwing the objects at them. Aang was running far ahead, trying to look for any sign of Appa or safety. And of course, Sokka was in the back, huffing and puffing while he let out a girly scream at the fiery arrows shooting past his head. One of them had actually pierced his coat, and he had to be drenched by Katara to not burn alive.
"I did not want to get involved with all this magic crap!"
He screamed in a high pitched voice. A Soldier cackled behind him, throwing a fireball past his head. God, they had to be playing with him, right?
"Sokka, maybe you should spend less time complaining and more time running!"
Katara. spoke, creating a wave to shove a few enemies back.
"Good- Good idea!"
It wasn't very helpful that Aang wasn't assisting with the fight. It was pissing Katara off quite a bit, which only fueled the fire of her anger towards the soldiers.
Sokka wasn't really useful either -- other than being a target. It was easy to predict the fighters throws since they were almost all directed at Sokka.
"Guys! There's a village! Come on!"
Aang's voice was heard from up ahead, turning into an open gate. Katara gasped, stopping her fight to speed up. Sokka just groaned, not happy with the loss of defense.
"How nice! Leave the guy with no powers behind!"
Sokka turned around the corner, immediately bumping into Aang who was standing completely still. He and Katara were in a battle stance, and Sokka quickly stood up straight, grabbing his boomerang.
The fire troop stopped in front of them, not stepping into the village. They stared intensely, before smiling menacingly. Their teeth were yellow and gross, obviously unhygienic from the lack of a proper bathroom.
The group dispersed, laughing manically and never removing their eyes from the group. Sokka loosened up a bit, raising a curious brow at the sudden end of the chase.
"Wha-"
"Shut up Sokka!"
Katara interrupted, shushing him.
"Why did they-"
"Shhh!"
They all stood still, quiet and looking out for any surprise attack. But there was nothing. Only the sound of the leaves rustling in the wind and their heavy breaths.
"How odd.."
Aang said, standing straight up and looking around.
"Something is weird about this place.."
"Obviously."
Katara retorted, crossing her arms and turning to face the rest of the village.
"Oh, so you guys can talk but I can't?"
Katara ignored him, and Aang just let out a sympathetic shrug. Somka groaned, stepping back and glancing at the area.
The place seemed abandoned. There were tents with assorted colors surrounding campfires, and two large buildings. One was on the opposite side of the village, and the other right text to them near the entrance.
"What is this place?"
Katara whispered, taking a step forward. Aang placed a hand on her shoulder, bringing her back.
"Be careful. There could be worse than the fire nation here.."
Katara nodded, huffing out a nervous breath. Though Aangs warning was fresh in his mind, Sokka couldn't help but walk into the center of the village. Curiosity was swarming his mind.
"Sokka be careful."
Katara spoke with urgency, looking at him with concerned eyes.
"Katara, it's fine! Look, this place is abandoned-"
Before he could finish his sentence, he screamed. The ground surrounding him and his friends rose up, like spikes growing from the floor. Katara grabbed onto Aang quickly, and Sokka got into a fighting stance, holding his boomerang in front of him.
"Who goes there?"
A voice boomed all around, the source unidentifiable. Sokka shivered, looking all around. His eyes locked onto Katara and Aang, who were also trying to find the voice.
"This is sacred land! It is forbidden for the Fire Nation to step foot here!"
Katara, in the middle of her shake, spoke,
"We mean no harm, sir -- or uh ma'am. We were just trying to escape the fire nation troops. We have made a terrible mistake wandering here."
The voice groaned, and footsteps clicking against the brick path flooring. The spikes began to sink back into the ground, shaking the floor beneath the group. The face of the man was exposed as the ground lowered.
"How shall i believe you? I surely cannot trust a bald little kid in warm colors.."
Sokka giggled, but soon dropped his smile when he saw Katara's angry stare. He looked at the floor, a nervous pool forming in his stomach.
"I'm wearing the traditional Garb of Air Nomads. I'm not a fire bender -- I'm an air bender."
Sokka crossed his arms, taking a step to the side. He glared at the stranger, not trusting him so quickly. He got a good look at the main -- he had dark skin, a similar complexion to his own, dark long hair and mustache that complimented it. He had tired eyes, full of grief and anger.
"Ha! Air nomad? You're an air nomad?"
The man laughed furiously, and giggles from all around flooded their heads. It was quite unsettling, the voices having no direct source.
"You're some uneducated Fire Benders. The Air Nomads were slaughtered 100 years ago, boy."
Aang looked a bit shocked and worried, but he didn't let the man's words faulter his faith. He couldn't back down.
"But I am an airbender! I can bend air!"
Before Aang could prove himself, Katara stepped forward.
"And i can waterbend!"
Her voice was desperate, scared. Sokka looked around, trying to figure out a way to explain himself.
"And I'm just kinda here!"
The man grinned, ready to attack. He dragged his hands up slowly, a sharp dagger made of rock making its way from the ground and pointing towards Aang.
"Prove yourself, or you'll be cast aside, firebender."
Katara's jaw clenched as she stared at the man, trying to stay poised despite her anger. As she inhaled, her hands glowed a beautiful blue. A stream of water left her hand and traveled several feet through the air.
While Katara's water traveled, flowing above her head in graceful shapes, Aang considered how to show he isn't the enemy. He held his hands together, the air swarming together between his palms. The ball grew larger and larger, before he jumped upon it, giggling as he rode the air.
He went in circles as gasps filled the air, both Katara and Aang laughing along with them.
Sokka grinned, looking about as the spikes fully sunk into the ground, exposing the people who were guarding the village. Men with knives lowered them, turning their heads to inspect the Gaang.
"That must mean.."
The man began, but smiled before he could even let out the last words.
"The Avatar!"
...
It had been a few hours since their arrival. As usual, Aang had spent most of the time entertaining children with his tricks. He did try and listen to the man for a little bit -- who he later learned to be Chief Ottawa of Izuma -- but he was always attracted to having fun.
Katara had made friends with a few girls, and had spent the time talking to them about her trip so far. And Sokka -- Sokka kind of just frolicked.
"Avatar Aang?"
Ottawa called out, looking at Aang as he showed the kids a marble trick. He looked up, the marbles falling into his hand. He stood up, waving goodbye to the kids and skipping over to Ottawa, Katara quickly following in suit.
They stood next to Sokka, who was sitting on a log picking at his fingers.
"Nice for you guys to finally join me."
He had a snarky undertone in his voice, a bit angry that he had been keeping himself occupied for hours. Aang whispered a quick apology, while Katara just shook her head.
Ottawa had his arm crossed, looking down at the floor. His energy seemed the same as when they had first arrived -- deflated, sad, angry.
"It is an honor to have the Avatar here. We'd love for you to stay, but we must come to an agreement.."
He began to speak, voice low.
"8 years ago, our tribe was ambushed by the fire nation. After much loss -- over half of our village lost -- we made a peace treaty with the fire nation."
Sokka raised a brow, looking curiously at Ottawa.
"A peace treaty? With the fire nation?"
His confusion was valid, since they didn't do 'peace treaties'. The fire nation only believed in loss and destruction, at least thats what Sokka thought.
"We were doubtful too, but at the time, that's all we had. So, we trusted them."
"That treaty was the biggest mistake of our village. Instead of attacking us head on, they sent troops to live around the area. They began destroying the land -- killing trees, tempering with the spirit world, and killing anyone who stepped foot outside Imaza. We have been trapped here. Unable to fight against the troops, our people have died from sickness, lack of crops, and smoke in the air. If these troops do not leave soon, our people will go extinct."
The realization hit Aang like a gut of wind, knocking him back. These people -- people who have been here since the beginning, since Oma and Shu created earthbending, and they would soon be a distant memory because of the fire nation.
"So.. you want me to get rid of the troops?"
Aang asked with uncertainty, messing with his pants. He looked at Katara and Sokka, who were both staring at him before he even turned his head.
"Yes. Not only you, Avatar, but your friends, Katara and uh.. uhm.. Soyki."
Sokka frowned, groaning at the name.
"I believe you can free our people, free the spirit world from the fire nation's torture."
...
Mark Variants Vs Toph Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Main Mark
He was surprised when he first met you because you were small and blind.
"How are you going to fight if-" he didn't want to continue so he wouldn't offend you.
"If I'm blind? Continue what you were saying." You retorted as you used earth bend to throw him off the ground.
Mark was shocked when he suddenly flew off the ground; he regained his posture in mid-air.
"Damn, Did a blind little girl scared ya?" Rex insulted, laughing as you earth bend him off the ground too
Rex and Mark were astonished at your fighting capabilities, as you could bend boulders bigger than yourself.
You, Mark, and Rex got along, teaming up in every battle, although sometimes Mark looks after you, worrying that your blindess would be a weakness in the middle of a fight.
"What are you worried about? I can literally see more than you both can, plus I react quicker than all of you." You smirked, scaring them off by making a posture that made them think you would make them fly away.
"Hah, pussies." You said as you walked off to get some food.
In the middle of a fight, you were not afraid of taking the lead, creating armor out of the metal from your surroundings.
One time you even soloed an entire army by putting them all to the ground.
"That's how you do it." You mocked, as you flaunt to Mark and Rex who hadn't even moved yet. Rex loved pissing you off a lot, so you also had fun burying him underneath the ground, making him beg for mercy, as Mark laughs at Rex's fate for the entire day unless Cecil gives you a mission.
"COME ON, I WAS JOKING, Y/N," Rex groaned from the ground as you were sitting on a couch drinking. "I'll accept your apologies when you take my chores the next time the base." You smirked menacingly. "Yes!!! I'll do whatever, just get me out of here." he whines for forgiveness as you earth bend him off the ground, and he plops on the floor; he breathes deeply and exhales, "FREEDOM." "Oh, boy, the more I stay here, the more I pity him." Monster girl's comments.
You, Mark, and Rex, train together, although in training, you bully them both a lot, throwing a lot of boulders at Mark and Splitting the ground on Rex's feet. "ARE YOU TRYING TO CRACK MY BALLS? JEEZ." Rex yells in frustration as he walks out from the training ground, leaving you and Mark on the training ground.
Mark loves your sassiness and confidence in your fighting style and skills, he loves seeing you use your earth-bending skills in new and different weverevery times, and he's most especially shocked when you can bend metals even though you are smaller than him, he also loves it when you told him you can see with your feet, and that's why you don't wear any shoes into battle.
"But what if there's glass on the road?" Mark asks, "What kind of dumb question even is that? I can earth bend it away from my toes; I can even see the ants that are trying to bite Rex's toes."
"THERE'S ANT ON WHAT?" Rex moves, and he falls from the couch and onto the ground. "Ha, I got ya." You laughed.
Mark tried flying you in the Air once, "Woah, this feels great, but make sure you don't make me fall, or you'll regret it." You threatened Mark.
Mark loved reading for you, describing certain comics like Sea Dog, and you just listened to him yap. "Okay! I get it. He's cool; get on to the new chapter. I'm going crazy if you keep repeating how cool he is." You complained.
Mark talks about Seance's dog, and his heart pumps in excitement talking to you about it, making him very happy.
- Omni Mark
"Hey, you!" You point in the wrong direction, "Fight someone your own size!" You yelled as Omni Mark let out a chuckle. "You're not even pointing in the right direction; what makes you think you can fight me?" He asks. "Get down from there and you'll see how." You replied as you earthbend a huge tower of earth to his face, making him fly away.
"I can hear you breathe, you know, hah, it works every time." You laughed as Omni Mark tried to regain his posture to attack you again, but you trapped him by pulling him to the ground and metal-bending a car onto his head, smashing it again and again.
"I didn't know there was a whack-a-mole here." You laughed insulting him.
- Target Mark
"You? against me? you're literally child-sized." He insults you from head to toe as you blast him off with a huge earth pillar onto his face. "You compensating something with your attitude there?" You mocked as you buried him deep down, and he dug himself out of the ground; you immediately started to throw boulders at him as you ran away to a place with buildings on it and made the buildings crash on him. Mark clenched his teeth again and punched through the buildings as you metal bend restraints to his arms. "Fight me." He said "What the fuck do you think I'm doing? playing with you?" You replied as you dropped a pile of cars on his head, and he still escaped. "Oh, boy, it seems like you're hard-headed; I guess that's why you fight without a brain." You insulted sticking your tongue out. "I'm going to slaughter you." He threatened. "You wish, I'm the greatest earthbender to exist."
- Viltrum Mark
You were running away from him because you knew that once he caught you, it was over for you. After all, he can rip you apart, but while you were running away from him, you made sure to throw cars in his face, but unfortunately, he kept passing through them. "You leave me no choice." You whispered as your metal bend to create an entire huge arm punching him. He flew away to space, as you sighed in relief. "Man that fucker was scary."
- Shiesty Mark
You were on the ground and you just arrived to Shiesty Mark destroying the ground creating lots of rubbles. "You know you're giving me the upper hand just by doing that." You spoke behind him as you created a prison surrounding him, making him locked in place, you then started to throw tiny rocks at his face. "I'll fucking kill you." He curses. "Do you really want people to see two little girls fighting out here?" You chuckled as he broke free, causing you to throw a car onto his face making him hit the pavement.
- Sinister Mark
He slowly chuckles as he chokes you, "You're blind; don't you know it's better for you to just retire and live in the countryside? You're just dead weight to the world, useless-" You cut him off by earth bending him to the wall. "I may be blind but I can see better than you." You said as you opened a huge rift, pushing him down to the core.
"Don't ever insult me like that, Even if I'm blind, I'm the best out there." You chuckled as you sat in exhaustion breathing slowly.
- Prisoner Mark
Prisoner Mark was angry after you placed him on the ground and treated him like a whack-a-mole machine by whacking him with a car onto his head. "Hey! it was just a joke!" You yelled running from him as you made buildings fall on him. "I'm going to bury you on the ground and whack you with a car too." He threatened. "I said I'm sorry," You whined as you continued running and making buildings fall on him; he was stuck on the rubble for a brief moment which gave you the time to escape by earth bending yourself to the ground by making tunnels. You closed the entrance, but Prisoner Mark tried to dig into the dirt trying to find you. "You're dead once I find you." He mumbles digging with his bare hands.
- Mohawk Mark
"Well, aren't you adorable?" Mohawk Mark chuckles as he looks at your small figure on the ground, "Why don't you come down here to see how cute I am." You yelled as he did descend from the sky which gave you the chance to throw boulders at him. "Awee little kid is trying to throw rocks at me?" He insulted, which made you clench your teeth by earth bending a huge wave of earth making him drown in it. " How's that for adorable." You laughed as he dug himself out spewing out the dirt that got caught in his mouth.
"You're going to regret that." He said. "Oh, really?" You retorted.
- No goggles Mark
"I have to admit, when I saw you I didn't think you could be this cool." He said as he took the impact of every blast of the boulder you threw onto him. "WOAH, this feels GREAT." He said as you tried throwing more boulders at his face with metal shards to injure him even more. "You're weird." You mumbled. "KEEP EM COMING." He yelled.
I saw your blind reader post and hear me out, Toph Beijing reader? Like they neglected them and didn’t realize that reader was an earth bender (and one of the best at that). I don’t know just some food for thought! I really love your work by the way!
The main inspo was actually Toph!! But I asked myself what if Toph was never founded by team avatar. Also the main difference between Toph and blind!reader is that reader is far far far more bratty compared to Toph (suprise2x).
Blind!Reader is the type who only founded being a Earthbender by tripping themselves 3 times and complained to alfred about it. (Alfred is confused about the dents around the garden and manor) , and Blind!Reader's bending style would actually be more similar with fire bending because of her lack of control and repressed unadulterated rage of being babied.
Their unique style of bending actually sky rocket them to being one of the best, even with their distructive tendency , Bruce would be like Toph's dad (obvi) and be far more Denial about your mutant abilities . Alfred would be stress 100% he is losing hair about it since in his eyes you were more like glass than human. Absolute becomes more over bearing to the max same with Dick grayson , your older brother is trying to puzzle the pieces with your bending and how much it's turning you to be more aggressive and hostille it's like seeing his kid self again.
@storytellers-randomshortstorys requested:
Heyyy!! I heard you wanted requests, so here I am🙏🏻
What about....A Oneshot of Zuko with a Reader that is a Water-/Bloodbender who (like Katara and Sokka) lost their family by the hands of Firebenders. They didn't grow up with the Watertribes though, but lived in an Earth Kingdom Village until the Gaang found them [so they are dressed like an earthbender and their fighting style is more like Tophs than Kataras]. Reader hates Zuko at first and doesn't want him joining the Gaang but eventually opens up, when he talks about his mom and they bond over their dead mothers and shitty fathers.
You don't have to write it, if you don't want to! But I would be honored to see you turn my idea into a story🙏🏻✨️
Water...
Earth...
Fire...
Air...
All important factors within the world we live in. For both benders and non-benders. The gifts given to the benders by the spirits were meant to bring harmony. It was meant to let us feel the elements that we use on a daily, feel them course through our veins.
But some people didn't see it as a way to connect with our Earth. Some people saw it as something to use against their fellow people.
Everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. The North Pole, as strong as it is, was hit pretty hard. They were able to ward off Fire Nation soldiers for a long time.
But not forever. Many smaller villages just outside the North Kingdom were hit pretty hard, not having as many benders or guards to protect them.
Many of the water benders stayed, fighting valiantly against the Fire Nation soldiers. But nothing good comes from water and fire mixing.
Only pain.
My father and younger sister were murdered when our igloo caved in. The ice blocks crushing their sleeping bodies. All i remember is hoping they felt no pain, but i know they did. I know they were buried beneath the stinging ice, shivering and numb until they went dark.
What i don't know, is what my mother had felt. The pain of not knowing always seems to haunt the narrative, doesn't it?
My mother forced me to flee the village with the elderly, while she stayed to protect and heal the people that were harshly injured. How could she not? She was the bravest, most selfless person i'd ever known.
Even with the Fire Nation soldiers there, she only cared about helping people. Even when they were there for her.
"I'll see you soon, my raindrop. Stay safe." She'd whispered in my ear just before i'd lost her forever.
How could that possibly be the last thing i remember her by? How could those be the last words she'd ever spoken to me?
My fingers clutched the necklace she'd slipped into my hand before disappearing from view. My tiny, young fingers. Holding the pendant, thumb tracing over the ridges in it. Her betrothal necklace.
I remember crying out for her, one of the older women carrying me, holding me back from my own mother. My only family left.
It wasn't hard to find a welcoming place. Earth benders, rough as they can be around the edges, are surprisingly amazing hosts. They took is all in. The older people that could no longer work went to the small home they had, while the younger people were split among the villagers.
As long as we worked for our stay, we were welcome as long as we liked. It didn't hurt that my home had a boy near my age. Fast friends, attached at the hip, like siblings. That's what everyone seemed to say about Haru and i.
His father was so warm and kind, unlike mine had ever been. And his mother made the most delicious lamb and spring stew. They made me feel so welcome, so loved. I'd found a new home. Though it never took away the ache, the longing, that i had for the cold tundra of the North Pole. Of my village. Of my family. Now all long gone...
Tumblr media
I find myself staring at my reflection in the soapy water of my mop bucket, feeling a strange tug in my stomach just from being this close to water. A small smile claws its way onto my face, as the sight of my mother's necklace peaking out of my shirt looks right back at me in my reflection.
My fingers duck beneath the neckline of my shirt, tucking my necklace under the fabric as i hear the door swing open and closed. It's not until i hear Haru's soft, quiet voice that i feel the tension in my shoulders melt away.
I place the mop back in its bucket and push it to the side.
"Haru, how many times do miss Hikari and i have to tell you? Come home earlier. Now you'll be doing chores until dusk," I huff, scolding the boy. My eyes narrow in disappointment. Some might say i've mastered the art of "mom" glare.
Hikari sends the boy a glare of her own while she stirs the pot of soup she's making. Carrot and beet sprout soup. Its smell lingers in the air, filling the house with a warm, cozy feeling.
Haru opens his mouth with an annoyingly sarcastic retort, i'm sure, but he gets interrupted when the door opens yet again.
Who the—?
"Hey, you're that kid!" A girl's voice rings out into the house from the doorway. I turn along with Haru, both of us gasping softly. The silhouette of a short girl looms in the doorway, the sun glaring in my eyes and making it hard to see her.
"Why did you run away before?" There's her voice before. My brows furrow, confused.
Out of the corner of my eye i can see Haru shrug. Does he... Does he know this girl?
"Uh...you must have me confused with some other kid," Haru's voice comes out hesitant, unsure.
Hikari looks up from the soup, a brow raised.
Two other boys appear behind the girl, walking into the house as if they're not total strangers to us. Seriously, who do they think they are? Not even having the decency to remove their shoes. I scoff.
The smaller boy of the two pipes up, "No, we don't. We saw you earthbending." He has a childish grin on his face, and a hat too big for his head. It keeps sliding back, and the boy behind him keeps fixing it for him.
Those words make Hikari finally speak up, her eyes wide and demanding. "Earthbending?!"
I don't really hear much else of the conversation, though. Because i finally look at the girl now that she's no longer hidden by shadows. And Spirits, does it feel like my heart stops.
She's in Water Tribe silks. And not only that, but her necklace... It's a betrothal necklace, just like the one my mother gave to me.
I find my hand coming up to rest over my shirt, fingers tracing the outline of my necklace over top the fabric.
My little raindrop...
The words echo in my brain at the sight of the girl.
A loud knock vibrates the door. Rough and cool. Definitely Fire Nation sharks, but why? We'd already paid.
Hikari opens the door, everyone else in the house, including me, doing odd poses to seem more "natural". Spoiler, it didn't work.
One of the boys even fell into our rain barrel. Damn, that took all month to fill. He spilled at least a week's worth of water.
The Fire Nation soldier step into the house, holding his hands out towards Hikari in a threat. "Fire is so hard to control sometimes..." He'd said.
What a pri—
Hikari opens her chest, pulling out some of her wages to give to him. We'd barely even paid off their last tax, and now they're upping it? I can feel my blood boiling at that smug smirk on his face, but i refrain from saying anything. I don't want to give them any more reason to harm Haru or Hikari. They've already lost too much...
After they leave, and a stern talking to from Hikari, Haru and i take the three kids out to the barn, giving them a place to rest for the night.
While Haru speaks with them, my gaze is more interested in the big ol' bison eating our hay. He's absolutely adorable.
Then a big head with even bigger ears blocks my view of the bison. "Hey, i'm Sokka. Not sure we were properly introduced."
He introduces himself. He has this stupid smirk on his face, a mix of cocky and flirty. It makes me want to dump ice cold water on him and give him the worst frostbite of his life. But i restrain. (Mostly because i don't have any ice water.)
"I'm Y/n."
"That's a cool name. Sounds more water-y than earth-y, though." He says, his voice scratchy.
I roll my eyes.
"Anyways," I turn and begin walking out of the barn. Haru went off somewhere with the girl, Katara, i'd come to know is her name.
As i lied in bed that night, staring at the ceiling, i found myself thinking of the two Water Tribe teens. I wondered why they were away from their home. Were they forced from it like me? Were they attacked? Did they leave willingly?
I was soon dragged from those thoughts, however, when i heard a strange commotion coming from outside of the house. I get up from bed, wrapping an earthy green robe around my body. I take notice of Haru's empty bed, now even more concerned.
I walk out to see Haru being dragged away. Hikari is being held back by Fire Nation soldiers, calling out for Haru, tears streaming down her face. I stand there, feet glued to the ground, fists clenched. How did they find out?!
The next morning i walk into the barn, eyes almost glowing with anger, a storm raging within them. I hear them whispering among each other, managing to catch a "Haru" or "Break him out" here and there.
My voice is low, angry. "I want in. With all of it. I want to save everybody i can from the Fire Nation, avatar..."
Tumblr media
That was that. I helped them save Haru and Tyro from the ship prison, along with hundreds of other prisoners, and i'd managed to learn a couple waterbending tricks from Katara so i could help them.
She was surprised to see our similar necklaces, as was i when i first saw hers. But we decided to talk about that later.
I parted from Haru, but not without a long, tearful goodbye. I squeezed my brother close.
When i had helped the gaang save those people, i felt a strong tug in my stomach. The way i felt when i was near water. It felt...good. It felt really good to help them. It felt good to work alongside the avatar's team.
It felt as though i'd found my destiny, my calling.
So, as anyone does when they find their long awaited passion in life, i followed it. I joined them and left my small village. I left my box. I left my safety.
The journey with them was tough. Especially the first few days when all we did was fly on Appa, over blank ocean.
But when we finally did make it to the North Water Kingdom, it seemed fine. All was good.
Katara, Aang, and I managed to convince Master Pakku to teach Katara and i, Sokka somehow managed to date a princess, and Momo and Appa were having a blast eating in their stables.
It was wonderful.
Until...it wasn't.
See, when i decided to join these three, hopeless teenagers in their journey, i didn't realize we would be hunted by the FUCKING FIRE NATION PRINCE!
He follows us pretty much everywhere we go. And i genuinely don't understand how. How in the hell is this ponytailed weirdo finding us?
The scarred boy arrived at possibly one of the worst times he could've, leaving Katara and i to fight and protect Aang, while everybody else was under duress.
As Katara tends to Aang, i try to fight off the scarred prince. I send shards of ice and water whips his way, the fullness of the moon above fueling my gifts.
My feet are planted firmly on the ground, the bottoms of my feet digging deep into the grass. The form i take is tense, tough. Like that of an earthbender. My hands form fists as i bend the water from my pouch and from the ice surrounding us.
I keep shooting icicles at him, over and over, until he's frozen to the ice behind him. Our faces are mere inches apart, my eyes meeting his blazing ember-colored ones. The two of us meet each other's glares head on.
Just i'm about to strike a final ice spear down on him, Katara calls my name in a panic. I immediately run to the girl, sliding to a stop by her side, following her line of sight.
Fire Nation soldiers. Damn, can't we just have one day without these human candles trying to murder us?
"I'll hold them off, you stand by Aan— Where's Aang?" My stomach drops.
Katara's eyes widen at my words, her head whipping around to where Aang once was. I can see the blood practically drain from her face.
In a panic, i turn to where i'd once had Zuko pinned by ice. He was no longer there, either.
Shit...
Tumblr media
Being stuck in a cave with Zuko isn't exactly something on my bingo card for the year. And yet, here we are. Great.
"Why are you in here, anyway? Oh, let me guess. It's all part of your crazy plan to finally catch Aang. So that when he comes to save me, your can snatch him up and leave the rest of us for death by Fire Nation. Am i right?" I scoff, punching one of the walls of the cave angrily, still trying to find an escape.
Sure, our first meeting was violent. As were many of the times after that. And yeah, i 100% hate everything about him and the nation he's in line to inherit. And maybe i do currently want to use some of those bloodbending tricks Hama taught me on him.
But i won't. Of course i wont. Because I'm a good person that doesn't hurt anyone unprovoked. Unlike some people.
My butt hits the dirt roughly as i plop down in it. It's not my ideal prison. Too dusty, too cramped, too...Zuko infested.
Stupid Ba Sing Se corruption. The gaang seriously needs to work on their preparation skills. How do we always end up in these situations?
Glowing crystals protrude from the walls, illuminating the otherwise empty and dark space. Zuko's on the other side of the cave, his back to me, mumbling to himself like some kind of creepy madman.
I toss a pebble at the back of his head.
"Hey, shut up. I can't think," I mutter when his head whips around, his deep, blazing ember eyes glaring harshly at me. It's almost funny, how angry he gets. And so easily, too.
It's not surprising. I mean, Waterbenders are typically calmer people, Firebenders are, well, hotheads. Obviously.
Water is calm, and flows gently. It has the occasional rough tides or insane waves during storms. We're calm unless provoked. Rational until we allow our emotions to take the reins.
Whereas Zuko seems to live on just his emotions. His actions are solely based on how he, himself, is feeling in that moment. Like fire, he's wild, untamable, unpredictable. He can blow up in a seconds time.
That's why fire and water don't mix. Fire evaporates water. Water extinguishes flames.
Perhaps that's why we seem to despise each other so.
"Are you this annoying all on your own, or did you get it from your parents?" Zuko grunts out through gritted teeth.
My eyes narrow into slits, my jaw ticking at his words. "Don't talk about my parents."
My reaction only seems to egg Zuko on, though, because he continues. "Oh," he hums, thinking over his next words carefully, "Touchy subject? Huh?"
I face away from him once more. Every time i hear his voice, it feels like someone's stabbing my eardrum with a sword over and over and over and over—
"Dead parents. Big whoop. My father gave me this," He points to his scar.
My eyes skim over the scar that covers half of his face. The skin of it is rough, having never been properly treated, clearly. The burnt flesh is red, and still looks like it would cause him pain if i were to touch it, even though I'm sure it wouldn't.
"Yeah, yeah. your father sucks. I kinda already got that from the whole trying to take over the world thing," I scoff.
Zuko sends me a glare. Nothing new. His face always seems to be set in a scowl, so it's quite ineffective.
"Look, Zuko, your dad sucks, my dad sucked. But he was still my dad, and he died. My whole family died to your people. So i'm not going to feel bad for you." I say finally, keeping my back to him firmly.
I can hear shifting from behind my back, but choose to ignore it. I close my eyes and rest my cheek on my knees.
Suddenly, i feel a presence beside me, and then a hand on my shoulder. His hand is hot, uncomfortably hot. Like someone dripped melted wax onto my shirt.
"Stop touching me, or i'll slice your hand off." I glared at him.
Zuko scoffs, not removing his hand from my shirt. If anything, his grip tightens.
"I'm sorry about your family." He says, though his voice sounds reluctant and awkwardly firm.
"The fire nation stole my sister. They... They murdered my mother in cold blood. That's something i'll never forgive." I tuck my knees close to my chest, and hide my face in my knees. Tears spill from my eyes involuntarily.
Spirits, i hate how sensitive this topic makes me.
Zuko sighs. I can feel his hand gently rub up and down in my back. I resist the urge to push him away. Maybe i need this. Maybe...we both do.
The way his hand rubs my back feels almost hesitant, like he's guilty for touching me. Or maybe he's guilty for what his people have done.
That, i'm not sure.
"I don't enjoy seeing you in Earth kingdom clothing, when i know what you are." I mutter into the safety of my knees, my cheek pressed against the rough fabric of the pants Hikari had sewn just for me. It's comforting.
"Sucks for you, then." I hear him grumble under his breath, presumably thinking i can't hear him.
"I hope you d—" I get interrupted by a loud explosion, crystals shattering and dust sweeping through the air of the confined cave.
I cough softly, waving a hand in front of my face to clear the dust away from it.
I can hear Zuko coughing from beside me as well.
Aang soon comes into view, and a relieved grin breaks out of my face. "Thank the spirits!"
I run over to him and tackle the younger boy in a hug. I kiss the top of his bald head and hug him tight.
Zuko stands behind me, hugging his uncle.
Oh, if i'd only known what would happen next…
Tumblr media
"You're joking, right?" I scoff, staring at the faces of my four friends in disbelief. "You're seriously considering letting him into our team? After everything he's done to us?!"
I can't believe this. After the chasing, the betrayals, the fights, they were just going to let Zuko join team avatar with a flimsy apology and puppy dog eyes?!
Aang sighs, offering me a kind smile. "He's proved—"
I interrupt him with an irritated groan. "Nothing. He's proved nothing but the fact that he's a liar. You can't actually believe that he's "changed". Come on!"
Zuko steps forward, and i can feel the pit of anger in my stomach rising with every step he takes.
"That was before. I... I know what my true destiny is now." He says, holding his hand out for me.
My glare ices over.
"I don't trust you." I begin to walk away. "And you guys shouldn't believe him, either!"
Zuko follows.
He really can't take a hint, can he?
"I'm here to help. I know what i did was wrong—" His voice is rushed as he walks behind me, clearly struggling to keep up with my fast pace.
"Do you, though?" I scoff. "Do you truly know how much it hurt me that you walked away? I thought we were friends."
"We still can be!" His hand grasps my wrist, pulling me to a stop. The movement causes me to trip over my feet, falling backwards into his chest.
My necklace slips out from my neckline.
"You have a necklace like Katara..." He hums, as if he's thinking of something. His hand reaches out to touch it.
I smack his hand away with my free hand, ripping my other wrist out of his grip and stepping away. "Just because they trust you doesn't mean i will. I don't believe for one second that you've had a change of heart."
Zuko pinches the bridge of his nose, his voice coming out rough. "Just listen to me."
I walk faster, pushing branches out of my way as i stomp over the thick forest floor. I stop walking suddenly, causing Zuko to slam into my back, the both of us toppling over.
I groan. My hand reaches up to rub the back of my head where a dull throb is, from my head hitting a branch.
Zuko sits up, his legs straddling mine, an awkward smile on his face. "Sorry." His apology is half-assed.
I roll my eyes. "I'm sure you are."
His apologetic gaze hardens into an irritated glare. "How many times do i have to tell you that i've changed? I'm here to help! Come on, don't make me beg for your forgiveness, Y/n!"
"Shhh." I whisper, looking up at where i heard a twig snap.
"No, you need to listen to me!" Hes pouting like a toddler. Spirits, this boy is an idiot.
I clamp a hand down over his mouth, my fingers digging into the plush skin of his cheeks. "Shut up. I heard something." I hiss in a whisper-quiet voice.
Zuko leans up, his head swiveling around to see if there's anyone around. Not a thing in sight.
"You're delusional." He mutters.
I shove him off of me with a scoff. "Shut your mouth."
He chuckles softly, the noise giving me pause. I stay sat in the ground, staring at the boy blankly. I didn't think he was capable of, well, amusement. Or laughter. Or anything revolving around happiness. And yet here he is, laughing.
He stops, brows furrowed in confusion at the look i'm giving him. "What?"
"You have teeth." I say, my voice teasing.
"I...know?" He looks at me like i'm weird.
I clear my throat awkwardly and stand up, dusting my butt off. "Whatever. Let's head back."
But just as i make a move to turn around and trudge my way back to our camp, Zuko grasps my arm and drags me back down to the ground roughly. A flaming ball of red whizzes over my head just as i fall to my on top of Zuko. The two of us grunt, but manage to scramble upright just as quick as we knocked one another over.
I reach my hand to my hip to open my water pouch, only to realize it's not there. Damn, i must've left it back at the camp.
Curse my need for dramatic exits...
I look at Zuko with wide eyes, before darting off. My feet hit the grass with a soft crunch as i flee the area, not exactly wanting to stay and meet our attackers. Yeah, i'm not exactly a welcome sign when it comes to people who are actively trying to kill me.
Aang, take notes.
"Looks like you're one your own, princey boo!" I call out to him, nearly tripping over my feet as i dodge another flame.
Zuko appears next to me, his hair whipping behind his head from how quick he's running. He's breathing hard. "Fuck you."
"Language." I mutter.
"How'd they find us? It always took me a good day or two to find you guys." He questions, pushing me out of the way as another burning red ball shoots between us.
"Hmmm... Good question. How did you usually find us?" I push him. Mostly for the fun of it.
Zuko ignores my question, instead opting to inform everyone of the fire nation soldiers following closely behind us as we begin to approach the camp.
I watch as our friends stand at the ready, while Sokka runs off to prepare Appa for our escape.
I hold a hand out. "Katara!"
She throws me my pouch and i catch it in my hand.
Just kidding. Her aim was way off and it ends up spilling on the floor. But that's okay, because i can just waterbend it out of the stone that's beginning to stain from the liquid.
I dig my heels into the ground and hold my hands in tight fists, beginning to pull the water out of the stone floors as Toph and Katara stand on either of my sides.
Zuko and Aang are in front of us, standing between me and the soldiers. Fire is shooting all over the place. It's a wonder nobody has been burned yet.
And no, Zuko doesn't count. That was already there before the fight broke out.
I glance at Katara, nodding towards the soldiers. The two of us share a look of agreement, before combining our water together and running in front of the boys. We bend the water to form a wall in front of us, before freezing it over. It's fairly thin, seeing as we aren't exactly abundant in our element, but it gets the job done.
It's enough to buy us some time. And with this extra time, we load everyone up onto Appa and take flight.
I sit beside Zuko, shoulders stiff.
He seems to be pretty tense, too. But i'm not sure if it's because we just almost died, or because he's sitting next to me. Who knows. I certainly don't. Alas... The hidden world of a teenage boy's mind.
Oh, just tell me what you're thinking already! Stop sitting like that!
I shove his shoulder with mine. "Shut up."
He looks at me confused. "I wasn't speaking."
"Shhh. Thanks for saving me. Twice." I mutter, clearing my throat loudly afterwards.
"A lot more than twice—" He begins.
I interrupt. "Don't ruin the moment, Zuko. I don't hate you right now, let's focus on that."
He nods.
His hand slowly slides across the saddle until the very tips of his fingers touch mine. I don't move away. Well, not until he gets bold enough to push his hand to rest atop mine.
I yank my hand away. "Don't push it. I'm tolerating you."
I place my hand back near his, allowing the sides of our palms to graze. I notice a soft pink hue coat his cheeks. I feel my own face grow a little warm, but i ignore it.
"Wanna teach me that bending style sometime?" He asks. "Y'know, if we have time during our mission ti save the world."
I nod. "I have time."
"Okay."
And somehow, without either of us noticing, our hands slide a bit closer...
I’m rewatching ATLA (not the live action) and was starting to think about my next long story
it would be a zuko x fem lavabending!reader
the reader would be the daughter of a high ranking firebender and a colony earthbender
right now i’m not sure which parent should be which but they were gonna have a little love story and stuff which ends with the reader
the reader’s earthbending parent will be a secret and the reader would not be allowed to bend when she’s with her firebending parent to ensure she stays safe
blah blah stuff happens and around the time zuko gets banished she and her family would be made and yada yada
I want to make the reader a lavabender because it’s a mix of both fire and earth (would eventually learn more stuff from toph — they gonna be like sisters 🗣️)
the reader will have gone with zuko and iroh after he gets banished and stays with them till ba sing se (after zuko betrays them she will go with the gaang)
I’m not sure what type of personality she should have but I’m leaning towards something that would be like iroh — calm, collected and stuff
I’m not sure if or when I’ll start this story cuz I’m just spitballing rn
