This moment made me realize that Tai Lung is going to make the Chameleon hell by appointing himself her master after he sees how incompetent&talentless she is in kung fu. It's enough that she stole their kung fu before that. Tai Lung cannot allow her to further desecrate the spirit realm by being there without the appropriate skills.
"Don't confuse me with Shifu, little one. I am a product of his upbringing. I'm much worse."
#[ He's not vindictive. I just fell down a rabbit hole about (legal) body disposal and part of me is so anxious wishing I could tell the FBI agent monitoring my internet searches that I’m just morbidly curious and I’m not planning on dying anytime soon (or planning anything ELSE, for that matter)
#I swear I’m innocent#I just didn’t know there were multiple types of cremation#and then I got curious about other legal burial/body disposal methods#and then I learned that you can have your ashes basically made into a starter reef in the ocean????#THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY ADVANCEMENTS IN BODY DISPOSAL AND PREP GUYS ITS KINDA INSANE#YOU CAN MAKE YOUR BODY INTO SOIL!! which seems like it would be easy but apparently it’s a rather new advancement!!#and I mean like proper soil not just like. decomposed and mushed up remains I mean like Actual Human Compost#hi I’ve always been interested in morbid topics I swear#I’m not insane I just love the art of the funeral and the way we honor the dead#I always thought I wanted to donate my body to the army to have them drop my remains out of a plane#but uh… becoming part of the coral reef and helping sustain the reefs is definitely a more appealing option now#and like I always knew you could do the become a tree thing but there’s more options for that too!!#also there’s multiple ways to cremate and two of the three that I’ve researched don’t use an incinerator!!#they use a mix of water and highly alkaline chemicals?? which is so cool?? I thought the only way to get ashes from a body was to burn it#but apparently not!!#dude. science is so fucking cool#mortuary science is so fucking cool specifically#alright to the FBI agent assigned to me: sorry if I’m flagging shit with these searches I’m trying to keep the wording respectful#and non-incriminating lmaoooo#MelloMoans#mortuary science#morbid curiosity#funeral services#I guess??

i know for a fact that i'd feel less hopeless if i started getting involved in local politics and felt like i was actually zoning in my focus on specific issues i can tangibly help with in the real world it's just. hard knowing where to start. and even if i did know where to start that's also kind of a moot point when i can't drive and thus can't get places easily ^^;
#i think forever ago someone left a comment about how to start getting involved in local politics#and in typical marshy fashion i forgot to respond so whenever i remember it i'm like 'fuck i should've done that' ghklasdjfkls#but yeah i should track that down. so when i fix the lack of transportation issue i can actually start doing stuff lmao#because it is genuinely an issue when it comes to my desire to get out and do things 😭#not even just politically i also want to develop hobbies outside of being on laptop but it's hard when getting places is so. difficult.#i gotta learn to drive this year. unfortunate but true 😔#as much as i love the bus it is simply not the most reliable or easy method of getting places#at least not in america#idk we'll figure it out. things won't be this way forever#not for me or the country. we'll find some way to pull out of this rut. we just have to work for it#marshy speaks

Cornella: Oh, Seb? He's just like that, it's fine. Matis: ?????? That's actually very concerning for how good security is here.......... Sebastian: Actually it's quite thorough! I assure you that you're safe here. :> Matis: (not really reassuring if they gave up getting you out based on how many times that implies they tried to catch you...)
During his college years, Sebastian went to study elsewhere for a year and lived with his uncle who simply worked for a security company. He just picked up the methods how people could sneak past cameras by listening to his uncle's complaints and how the company never took his suggestions to fix the problems seriously bc he wasn't very high in the company and turned down promotions. Seb just "oh so that's a thing? ohhhh I can do that" and solves his problems in regards to seeing Cornella by putting what he learned vicariously to the test.

In the future I believe I shall be calling looped Chou Piéride even tho they'd still go by Chou for clarities sake 👍
#rat rambles#stars posting#new game+#we'll see if I do enough with this sub au to give it it's own name#but yeah piéride vc well clearly my loops broke because I had it too easy *throws like two tutorials at loop before fucking off*#it doesn't help that ultimately they just. don't see themself in either siffrin. at least not until getting to know them better#they see themself as being here to make sure loop doesn't make the same mistakes as they did#and since from their perspective loop Wasnt making those mistakes during their endless death march they didn't do shit#they also never directly spoke to loop like loop does to siffrin so loop genuinely didn't know abt piéride during their loops#piéride still continues to be distant and not particularly helpful after loop becomes loop but theyre at least willing to talk to loop now#mostly because they view their role as loops guide as having shifted from helping them not break the loops to helping them guide siffrin#needless to say they aren't fond of loops methods#they won't stop loop tho since they don't want to risk breaking things more#to be clear they didn't explain their perspective basically at all nor supply any of the deeply valuable info they have#at least not until far later#you see they have a pretty crippling fear of finding answers as they'd rather keep bashing their head into a wall and hope it works than#know for sure that theres nothing they can do abt something#the whole reason they made their last wish was because they finally let the others in and let them help them find answers and the#conclusion they came to broke them#so going from that to being a guide left them just wanting to stay as distant from any real problem solving as possible#also because they think it was them wishing for basic qol stuff that broke their loops they think direct intervention is a bad idea#because evidently the universe gave them nice things and died for it so they should learn from that and do jack shit for loop <3#look they were stuck in their loops for at least a decade of course they got some shit stuck in their head

Oh... I've finally gotten back around to reviewing/relearning Latin, and verb forms are probably the thing I struggle the most with/need to review the most urgently. So I...
I'm using this as a checklist... the ones with the periods are the ones I Definitely Remember And Could Do In My Sleep* and the others I either have not quizzed myself on yet or just... know that I won't be able to do them.
How did I KNOW all of these??? At any point???
To be fair, I never knew the subjunctive all that well (I mainly went off of, like... "I know indicative verbs and this sure doesn't look like one!"), but... this makes me so sad. I've forgotten so much.
And that's not even getting into participles and infinitives. Imperatives are fine, probably.
I think I'll be good on prepositions and ablative uses with just a little bit of review, but the various subjunctive uses are going to be a pain in the ass to learn/relearn. (To be honest, that's another case of learning more than relearning. I was able to guess/use context in class, but I'd like to also actually know them well.)
*There's the caveat of... my first-person singular future active indicative of "superāre." For which I wrote "superam." Which I guess is third conjugation rules? Or third-io? I don't remember? I guess it's good that I vaguely remember conjugation rules from a different conjugation, but... help.
#ahh... are there other major things i'm forgetting? for some reason third declension is my worst one to remember. like.#why do i remember fourth declension with all of its stupid u's. what's with that.#is it because there are four variations of third declension...#also why was this language so EASY for me to learn the first time around? i feel so doomed now...#not really i mean. i'm sure a lot of it will come back to me fairly quickly with some review. and... the best part...#i've recruited someone on campus to harass me with random latin phrases so that i can feel ashamed of having forgotten and then have#motivation to study. is this a weird way to motivate myself? slightly. perhaps slightly unhealthy.#but i have been very bad at reviewing on my own despite wanting to do so and i think this method will work#dante dicit#dico dicere dixi dictum. ha. i cannot remember if this is third or fourth which one is which... god...#latin#relearning latin#maybe i'll make posts about my Studying so that i can feel Internet Peer Pressure to do so as well

so it first Scourge only stays in the dimension because he has no way out, but what about the Omniviewer or the Ring of Eternity? do they for some reason not have the ability to take him to his dimension? or are we just shoving them out of the picture for the sake of the story until we can think of a good reason for their absence?
hi can you tell how much I've got the Fleet!Sonourge bug
So the Omniviewer and Ring of Eternity, although they do have dimension-related powers, don't quite have the powers to send Scourge back to his own dimension (Sonic was distraught upon discovering this, because the Omniviewer was his first solution. Locals say he stormed off yelling "THEN WHAT EXACTLY IS THE POINT OF YOU???" when the Omniviewer said he couldn't help). Their powers, while impressive to someone from the fleetway dimension who didn't even know dimension travel was possible, are actually pretty standard and minor in the grand, cosmic, multi-dimension scheme of things, as both of them can really only use their powers on the fleetway dimension and nearby "connected" dimensions
The Omniviewer's power is mostly limited to Mobius and the Special Zone, the latter of which is still inside the fleetway dimension. There's the bonus of time travel, but that still only really impacts the fleetway universe. I don't remember if we ever see him use his powers for anything outside Mobius and the Special Zone, but if he can, it's limited. The Ring of Eternity has a bit more power, as it can connect to other dimensions, but only... local dimensions, I guess is the way to put it? The Cosmic Highway is big, there are a lot of alternate dimensions to hold, and not all dimensions are within the same distance as each other
Think of it as like a bubble, I guess? The Ring of Eternity can reach dimensions that are within the bubble, and most if not all of those dimensions have a direct connection to the fleetway dimension. The universe that has King Sonic, for example, is directly connected to the fleetway universe, because, well, it's a parallel for it. It's a relatively close dimension, from a multi-dimensional perspective, which means it's within the reach of the Ring of Eternity's powers
Moebius, however, is not part of these connected dimensions. Different bubble, or neighbourhood, or whichever metaphor you wish to use. It's not a dimension that's close to the fleetway universe, so even if the Ring of Eternity or the Omniviewer were aware of that universe to begin with, they couldn't send Scourge there, because they just don't have that kind of power. Probably for the best, otherwise there could have been some... unforeseen complications when the Omniviewer trapped Super
The fleetway universe, and similarly, it's connecting universes, are pretty well-contained. Travel between connected dimensions isn't very common as it is, unless you count Sonic's trips to the Special Zone, so getting outside of that little bubble is incredibly difficult. Portals that open directly onto the Cosmic Highway just don't spawn often, and it's incredibly difficult to find an alternate way out. Perhaps it's a cosmic evolution; a dimension that specifically spawned and adapted to keep things and people (like Super) contained
Either way, it's effective at keeping people in. Between that, and Scourge's dimension being not only completely unconnected to the fleetway universe, but also thousands of miles away on the Cosmic Highway, neither the Omniviewer nor the Ring of Eternity can help, so please stop yelling at us Sonic it's not our fault there's nothing we can do
#sonic the hedgehog#asks#headcanon#can you see me just making shit up as i go because i'm too lazy to learn all of the lore and rules of the multiverse in the archie comics#so if anything contradicts archie canon. no it doesn't.#for that matter if anything contradicts stc canon? no it doesn't#my lore now#i read through the wiki that counts as research right#anyways hope this is at least semi-coherent???#the tldr is 'they don't have the power to have that kind of reach'#so scourge has to find another way#and unfortunately for him none of his usual methods work because the fleetway universe is pretty airtight#literally his only advantage is he's done this before. but it still isn't easy#of course if you brought in like. a way to create a portal from outside the fleetway universe. that would be different#bc those are probably specifically designed to either open onto the cosmic highway or into a specific dimension#unfortunately for scourge. he crash landed without any of those things#and the fleetway universe was not keen on making it easy to find a way out#much to the dismay of sonic#at least. until he got used to scourge. and caught feelings#fleetway universe: all according to keikaku >:)#my fleet!sonourge brainrot.... tis spreading as planned...... >:3

Up until he’d manifested his magic at age fourteen, Kalim learned rather quickly how to keep himself alive and as (mostly) unharmed in the hands of the kidnappers who took him, especially in times he realized the intention was to get rid of him and change up the line of succession rather than simply ransom him off.
#hc; kalim#//Sometimes he attempted to befriend those who were assigned to keep closer watch on him#Others he’d ramble interesting stories to them for hours on end until he bought himself a chance for escape one way or another#Others hed list ways the kidnappers themselves could benefit making use of him themselves over listening to whoever hired them#//Stuff like that; anything and everything he could manage to ensure he would be able to go back home#//He learned to be quite persuasive from each of these encounters; even with his methods’ varying degrees of success#//Tho there is a difference between negotiating w/ someone under duress & with a knife at your throat than mediating a teens’ spat#//Or even leading a dorm; with nothing but charisma; care and understanding at your disposal to warrant it#//He’s thankful he’s learned enough to be able to earn his dorm’s respect; even w/ his lack of magical prowess compared to other wardens#//Plus his father was THRILLED to know he could keep a cool head under pressure & hella talk his way into many more things now#//So in Kalim’s eyes; all those experiences were ultimately character building more than ‘traumatizing’#//He didn’t ‘suffer’; he ‘GREW’ from them#//If that is to be part of his fate as ‘Asim heir’; well DAMNED HE’LL BE if his only takeaway was how scared he was#//& the time his magic manifested; he’d long since stopped feeling AS terrified for his life#//No; at that point; it was ‘how do I ensure the best possible outcome at a time like this?’ then enacting it#//Hes successfully managed to talk his way out of worse than he’d been slotted out for more times than he’d care to admit#//Which is why he’s become quite confident that talking things out is V effective even in dire situations#//In NRC; however; he’s dismayed to find some of the other lads aren’t AS easy to bribe/talk to when set in their stubborn ways#//Its fine though—either he’ll wear them down as needed or surely find Another approach to work things out#//He’ll figure out: just like before

Creating an Auto-Closing Notification With an HTML Popover
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/creating-an-auto-closing-notification-with-an-html-popover/
Creating an Auto-Closing Notification With an HTML Popover

The HTML popover attribute transforms elements into top-layer elements that can be opened and closed with a button or JavaScript. Most popovers can be light-dismissed, closing when the user clicks or taps outside the popup. Currently, HTML popover lacks built-in auto-close functionality, but it’s easy to add. Auto closing popups are useful for user interfaces like banner notifications — the new-message alerts in phones, for instance.
A picture demo, is worth a thousand words, right? Click on the “Add to my bookmarks” button in the following example. It triggers a notification that dismisses itself after a set amount of time.
Let’s start with the popover
The HTML popover attribute is remarkably trivial to use. Slap it on a div, specify the type of popover you need, and you’re done.
<div popover="manual" id="pop">Bookmarked!</div>
A manual popover simply means it cannot be light-dismissed by clicking outside the element. As a result, we have to hide, show, or toggle the popover’s visibility ourselves explicitly with either buttons or JavaScript. Let’s use a semantic HTML button.
<button popovertarget="pop" popovertargetaction="show"> Add to my bookmarks </button> <div popover="manual" id="pop">Bookmarked!</div>
The popovertarget and popovertargetaction attributes are the final two ingredients, where popovertarget links the button to the popover element and popovertargetaction ensures that the popover is show-n when the button is clicked.
Hiding the popover with a CSS transition
OK, so the challenge is that we have a popover that is shown when a certain button is clicked, but it cannot be dismissed. The button is only wired up to show the popover, but it does not hide or toggle the popover (since we are not explicitly declaring it). We want the popover to show when the button is clicked, then dismiss itself after a certain amount of time.
The HTML popover can’t be closed with CSS, but it can be hidden from the page. Adding animation to that creates a visual effect. In our example, we will hide the popover by eliminating its CSS height property. You’ll learn in a moment why we’re using height, and that there are other ways you can go about it.
We can indeed select the popover attribute using an attribute selector:
[popover] height: 0; transition: height cubic-bezier(0.6, -0.28, 0.735, 0.045) .3s .6s; @starting-style height: 1lh;
When the popover is triggered by the button, its height value is the one declared in the @starting-style ruleset (1lh). After the transition-delay (which is .6s in the example), the height goes from 1lh to 0 in .3s, effectively hiding the popover.
Once again, this is only hiding the popover, not closing it properly. That’s the next challenge and we’ll need JavaScript for that level of interaction.
Closing the popover with JavaScript
We can start by setting a variable that selects the popover:
const POPOVER = document.querySelector('[popover]');
Next, we can establish a ResizeObserver that monitors the popover’s size:
const POPOVER = document.querySelector('[popover]'); const OBSERVER = new ResizeObserver((entries) => if(entries[0].contentBoxSize[0].blockSize == 0) OBSERVER.unobserve((POPOVER.hidePopover(), POPOVER)); );
And we can fire that off starting when the button to show the popover is clicked:
const POPOVER = document.querySelector('[popover]'); const OBSERVER = new ResizeObserver((entries) => if(entries[0].contentBoxSize[0].blockSize == 0) OBSERVER.unobserve((POPOVER.hidePopover(), POPOVER)); ); document.querySelector('button').onclick = () => OBSERVER.observe(POPOVER);
The observer will know when the popover’s CSS height reaches zero at the end of the transition, and, at that point, the popover is closed with hidePopover(). From there, the observer is stopped with unobserve().
In our example, height and ResizeObserver are used to auto-close the notification. You can try any other CSS property and JavaScript observer combination that might work with your preference. Learning about ResizeObserver and MutationObserver can help you find some options.
Setting an HTML fallback
When JavaScript is disabled in the browser, if the popover type is set to any of the light-dismissible types, it acts as a fallback. Keep the popover visible by overriding the style rules that hide it. The user can dismiss it by clicking or tapping anywhere outside the element.
If the popover needs to be light-dismissible only when JavaScript is disabled, then include that popover inside a <noscript> element before the manual popover. It’s the same process as before, where you override CSS styles as needed.
<noscript> <div popover="auto" id="pop">Bookmarked!</div> </noscript> <div popover="manual" id="pop">Bookmarked!</div> <!-- goes where <head> element's descendants go --> <noscript> <style> [popover] transition: none; height: 1lh; </style> </noscript>
When to use this method?
Another way to implement all of this would be to use setTimeout() to create a delay before closing the popover in JavaScript when the button is clicked, then adding a class to the popover element to trigger the transition effect. That way, no observer is needed.
With the method covered in this post, the delay can be set and triggered in CSS itself, thanks to @starting-style and transition-delay — no extra class required! If you prefer to implement the delay through CSS itself, then this method works best. The JavaScript will catch up to the change CSS makes at the time CSS defines, not the other way around.

you know that whole i watch so many youtube videos and now have random knowledge that's useless to me thing?
that's when you watch like cooking videos
most people end up having to cook and then the knowledge can get funneled into something helpful
#i've also been trying to watch writing videos for the same reason#idk how that's going though writing is very ??? when it comes down to it imo#like yes string words together and good luck#i did watch one for metaphors which was neat though#all i think i learned was hey don't use too many though which i think i already knew#but i did just learn that an easy way to get egg shell out of a big batch of eggs is by using a bigger piece of shell#is this method of watching actually helpful??#idk but it feels more like im doing something productive vs watching like doll videos#i would argue that the right kind of video game analysis is helpful for writing but i think im lying lol#using tumblr as a diary again#i always want to add an extra t to writing#which is embarrassing but i like to write not to spell
