I genuinely think Kabru would have been a villain if it wasn't for Milsiril adopting him, like mf literally just witnessed a massacre, his own parents being murdered and yet he's still relatively well adjusted, it's still genuinely baffling to me he's like mostly okay (from what we see), I'm very curious how Milsiril met Kabru? Like was he just on the ground trying to processs what had happened and then this random elf lady shows up and goes "don't worry I'll be your mom now" or something??
I don't think he would have, I don't see anything that indicates his sense of morals comes from Milsiril, since Milsiril herself seems avoidant of the things that upset her, he was already 7 so he probably had a personality developed somewhat by then? I think besides his PTSD he would have elf trauma similar to Rin's because he would probably have been raised the same as her, but I think his sense of "I must stop this from happening again" would be the same.
Btw from the QnA Kabru had a real name with surname but he doesn't remember, Kabru doesn't sound like an elvish name tho, I wonder if his Mom renamed him when they ran away from their family and that's why he doesn't remember his real name and surname.
I imagine Kabru was found alive and Milsiril ended up adopting him, she doesn't seem like the type of person that would just randomly pick up a kid like that, by the Rin extra it seems like she worries about their quality of life (admitting she can't take any more in) so I imagine she would have been kinder and gentler than just "You're coming with me", the way she asks Kabru if he would help also makes me think that (it was a request not an order)
That's all assumptions based on my perception of her tho as far as I know there's no canon description of their first meeting.
Edit: He was buried in rubble and Milsiril saved him.
Edit2: Adding this cause I think it's necessary, Milsiril definitely made Kabru's life easier than it could have been but I think his achievements are his own. His drive, his sense of justice and his observation skills come from him, what she did was facilitate his journey and teach him all he wanted. She's just his mom at the end of the day and good moms are great to prop you up when you're down but they can't walk for you.

✨ hi thanks for asking! I just eat it and then spit it out and it comes out sparkly /j
okay for realsies though
I use ibispaintx with a rather convoluted process to achieve proper sparkle. it varies depending on the picture and what looks best but generally I follow a similar processs
-I use two separate glitter overlays: one downloaded jpeg and one transparent png of sparkles I drew myself
-two of those jpeg overlays, one slightly offset and tilted, adjust color using hsl filter if needed but I usually use a magenta hue
-one on normal blending mode on lowered opacity and one to overlay blending mode
-increase the saturation and lightness of screenshot beneath
-custom png over top, blending mode add
-add extra sparkles with a custom brush (it’s an altered version of the default sparkle brush, I could post the code for it if anyone wants it) usually blending mode add, and adjust if needed from there!!
Again this all varies on the picture, usually I keep the same canvas and then slip the picture under the effects and adjust it however I need to for it to look the best ✨

jueun is more than aware that the show probably needed some kind of a villain. would it really be television if they didn't have one? and while she hasn't spoken that many words with jaeyoung, she would hate to see him fall victim to whatever editing they put on him. seeing how he's spoken and acted so far, she thinks he's been giving them lots of bait to work with and if he wanted to work in this industry even after next gen, it'd probably be best if he didn't leave the show with bad editing making him look evil.
she scrunches up her nose at the way he speaks. it wasn't too bad of a swear, but jueun knew that it'd only add onto his whole bad boy image that they were surely going to put onto him. "there's a difference between being passionate and looking like you can't take criticism," she reminded him gently. jueun wasn't a judge, and she didn't share the same thoughts as them. however, both the judges and audience weren't getting every side of him. they were only getting whatever the producers would air of him.
"nobody's criticizing that thought processs either. it's just the way you word things and how you present yourself. even now, the way you speak, it almost sounds like you're snapping back at everything i say when i know that's not your intention." she's met a few people like jaeyoung back when she was participating in pageants. they had hearts of gold, but they did a terrible job of expressing that because of their cold words or actions.
she can't help but chuckle at his next words before shaking her head a few times. "let me ask you this? does it look like i'm not taking this seriously because i'm going around and socializing with a smile on my face?" she tilts her head to the side before raising a brow at him, waiting for his answer. "the judges and viewers want to see someone who looks like they can work well in a team, which you don't right now. being too individualistic on a show like this won't do you any good."
his reputation preceeds him, he supposes. jay doesn't know how he got branded the 'grumpy guy' or the 'angry one'. he's been spiteful, yes—but doesn't that mean he's all but eager to improve and achieve greater heights. apparently that's a bad thing, which is something he doesn't get. maybe he's meant to figure it out during this new mission, but all he's learning is that he's becoming genuinely frustrated at this point. maybe there's something off about his own mindset.
either way, he's not exactly the most likeable contestant. not with the audience, certainly not with the judges. he doesn't care about likeability though, he doesn't even mind being the villain of the season; but he'd like to be evil and competent, instead of being portrayed as incompetent and discarded. the more he thinks about it, the more he feels his head about to explode. which is rare, that only happens a few times in his life.
jueun doesn't seem to dislike him though. she's offering him a bottle, willingly interacting with him. still, he can't help but roll his eyes—not because he's annoyed with jueun or irritated with what she's saying. he's just… something. he can't exactly describe it. but he laughs, for good measure. to let her know he's not offended.
"i'm not even always… angry. hell, i'm not even that easily angered." he shrugs, knowing he can't change how he's being perceived now. but he flashes jueun a smile anyway, not to prove a point; just because he can. "is being passionate too intense? i'm not even trying to criticize their feedback, i'm genuinely trying to make it make sense in my head."
accepting the bottle that's being handed to him, he lets out a small groan. his brain isn't functioning the way he'd like it to. "how loose should i be? aren't we supposed to take all this seriously? here i thought i was loose enough. god knows i yap too much."

Upcoming BL Analysis: Baker Boys; A Look at Antique Bakery:
Why is Antique (Korean) A BL
It’s odd for me how no one sees how romantically coded how Antique is like so much! Especially between the two ‘platonic’ bros Sunwoo and Jinhyuk, one believed to be fully straight by all and one out and proud. I think people don’t see how much the director was trying to show that this wasn’t as easy as that, instead the director tried to explore how they both loved each other romantically , like these two loved each other, and it is hinted secretly that as time goes on and Jinhyuk deals and gets healed with his trauma he’ll slowly become more accepting of Sunwoo as his soulmate/partner. But also he thinks he’s straight only because he’s terrifyingly homophobic because he thinks he was molested when he was a kid?
He misunderstands his mum’s reveal as a child does, and starts being traumatised by his own version/imagination of the narrative of his kidnap. Because a man did that to him he can’t accept touches from a guy romantically because he’s traumatized and doesn’t know how to get over that. Everything he says to Sunwoo from the moment they speak to each other stems from his pain, fear and trauma buried within. He doesn’t mean it, it actually frustrates him when he does it and he says/admits it later to the audience. It’s the opposite, he always cared about having Sunwoo near him, he also found himself without meaning to wanting to be protective of Sunwoo since highschool, he kept notice of him and never wanted to forget him because he never meant what he said to him, and even later he sees Sunwoo as someone meant to be by his side no matter the obstacle or frustration with different personalities and issues. He’s also shown to be jealous romantically may I add and admits that he links Sunwoo leaving him to his past lovers who left him, for him Sunwoo is who he couldn’t bare the thought of walking out on him. He wanted it to be Sunwoo no one else to stay by his side and help him get and capture the kidnapper he’s been haunted by for years. Sunwoo’s baking was going to be his answer, his salvation essentially, something they both would do to save many kids. He loved Sunwoo so much but couldn’t process it because of his trauma and it’s until the kidnapper storyline ends with him finding purpose and meaning after saving others like his past child self from another person, that’s when he starts to heal and he’s okay with going with Sunwoo to the gay bar, with finally touching Sunwoo. Still goanna take him time to be vulnerable because he’s used to always having a mask it’s Jinhyuk; he hates being vulnerable but with Sunwoo he understood that they are each other’s, doesn’t need any title they were set to stay with each other by each other’s side no matter what. And Sunwoo also understood that and proceeded at the end to start flirting once again with him.
Even when he doesn’t have to, hes the one who comforts and listens to Sunwoo real secret about the reason why he falls for abusive people, and it made both of them open up to each other deeper about their goals. self, pains, and scars. Gah there’s so much to break down about why Jinhyuk does have feelings for Sunwoo but yeah it’s odd people don’t notice how the director made sure and even admitted that he was exploring what they had and made it super obvious that they’re both broken people in their own way that needed to grow and find themselves before they could be together. They had scars, pain and self hate to get over and Jinhyuk really struggled with not understanding why his trauma made him refuse to let Sunwoo in his heart romantically he just couldn’t because he was automatically afraid of the idea when he associated it with perversion etc because of the misunderstanding that he was hurt by someone perverted (a word his mother used to describe the kidnapper) to him. And it’s understandable and it’s automatic/ psychological and painful to watch unfold and takes a while for him to understand and reveal the truth. But he does processs it all, and shows us all the flashbacks of why they both interlinked, with him showing protectiveness but also care instead of objectifying Sunwoo (he’s the only guy who doesn’t) it’s what makes Sunwoo although scared to do so/ normally afraid of love and always insecure about himself come to tell him how he feels and why Sunwoo stays in love with him even till the end as his boyfriend literally spelled out to him that it’s Jinhyuk he’s staying for no other excuses.Sunwoo from the start felt safe with Jinhyuk which is odd concerning how Jinhyuk acts with the mask. But again he felt seen, not objectified and affected by Jinhyuk in a way that made him actually grow and find himself. Listen to the dialogues people.
For Jinhyuk it showed that although he has his mask and his crass horrible attitude and trauma, Jinhyuk likes being with Sunwoo, he notices him, refuses to forget him, decides he’s the one he wants no matter what obstacles he brings to make him get his kidnapper, Jinhyuk finds himself automatically caring and wanting to keep Sunwoo by his side you could even argue though there’s the obvious jealousy with Sunwoo’s ex, that he’s also jealous in high school about others objectifying Sunwoo he doesn’t like the idea of it and he reacts and I think that’s another reason why we got that flashback at the end. The whole movie I could speak for hours of every scene and why it showcases their love even with obstacles
It’s like the movie Night flight it’s also a love story and both Jinhyuk and the main guy there showcase the same journey of finding their answer before realizing the truth about what/who they love. The other character takes a while to process his truth and his feelings before finally being vulnerable and having an open ending where he begs his partner to stay by his side as he’s tired of pushing him away. Same as Jinhyuk, same open ending, same understanding of what they mean to each other. Same vague answer that it’s not platonic at all and suggests like Antique that he loves the other. Both traumatized and determined to push people away and hide and not be vulnerable, both phobic because of fear connecting to trauma. For Night flight his fear of being beaten up and being kicked out and losing his power which if you watch that movie is just terrifying to do. Where in both their minds being bi/gay is terrifying because of the environmental mindset they have about their past or people who hurt them in the past.
Even the scene where he tries to say he’d sleep with Sunwoo everyone thinks that proved he was straight when noo aren’t people seeing the layers and the struggle? You can see him struggle, you see him panic because of his trauma of being touched etc you see him try to make Sunwoo stay by his side with the plea and reason of just because. Just because he wants him there, even when its hard for his mind to process the answer he knows he wants him by his side no matter what. Sunwoo walks away because he struggles to explain why, the reason though stays obvious from the start he asked him to be his baker even when he’s scared of girls (something Jinhyuk says is his excuse for why he wanted the bakery which is complete bull because he ends up giving up that idea because of Sunwoo’s phobia instead of just firing him and finding someone new, something the movie later proves he can do if he wanted to) just because he wants it to be Sunwoo. Once reunited he wants it to be Sunwoo by his side no questions asked. And although his mask makes us think he doesn’t care about people, or love or commitment at the start, we see as always he’s wearing a facade, he does, he wants love so much, he’s a caring boyfriend and devoted, he’s also protective of the people he loves but as exposed he tried to the straight thing to propose to several women he felt he had to do so to but they could see through his mask and some were turned off by his trauma affecting him in his nightmares. They couldn’t get through to him and so they left. Sunwoo was the one despite knowing his flaws, despite their past he never lef, and Jinhyuk wanted Sunwoo to stay no matter what and he understood that he was his family (christmas scene) , his hope to getting his answer and remove his trauma, his sidekick, his helper, the person who helped him start the bakery where he found his love for something again.
Sunwoo represents so much to Jinhyuk just as Jinhyuk also even when hurtful and problematic in his mask still pushes Sunwoo to growth and also represents so much to him! Gah I love this movie so much, I love it with such a passion and each time I watch it I just love them so much. Antique is one of those ones where it’s what I want from BL a plot that’s increasingly amazing and not connected to that, then a deep and surprising love story at the core between the two and then covered with humor and mystery and more genres. It’s a roller coaster of emotions, has incredible growth and character arcs, has found family, the discovery of self, healing of trauma and pain and a hopeful happy ending. It’s just everything. Extremely thought out adaptation, edited to Perfection and outstanding acting that won awards because it deserved it. That’s it. I just absolutely loved this so much. The Korean version tried so hard to be as romantic as possible in my opinion, every subtext points to it and it takes a few layers to break down to understand how, but the whole show is all about that emphasis on layers and uncovering masks and layers of every character! Gah. Please go watch it I can’t wait and will pray Thailand does better with Baker Boys. But I don’t know how they can surpass this.

COVID-19 Reading Log pt. 11

56. Plants that Kill by Elizabeth A. Daucey and Sonny Larson. This book is about the chemistry and social history of poisonous plants, with full color photography. It starts with first principles, in that the first two chapters summarize plant biology, organ systems and the theory of evolution. Maybe you’d want to skim these if you have biology training, but they do contain some good information about chemical structures, endosymbiotic interactions between plants and fungi, and sequestration of plant compounds by their insect predators. Then we’re off to the races with the plants, which are organized by the modes of action of their toxins. This gets a little messy, since many plant poisons have wide acting effects, but it’s a loose organization and the book is well indexed. Even though I’ve read several books about poisonous plants before (including for this project!), I learned a lot from this book. Recommended.

57. Meerkats by Grant M. McIlrath, the Meerkat Man. The fact that the author credits himself as “the Meerkat Man” on the cover of the book tells you a lot of what you need to know. The book is a weird mixture of thorough and skimming over some important information. Part of that seems to be that the author is so embroiled in South African culture that he can’t imagine that his readers aren’t (are yellow mongooses seen as pests in South Africa? I’m inferring this from the book, but he never comes out and says it). Part of it is that the author loves meerkats to a possibly unhealthy extent, and valorizes and anthropomorphizes them shamelessly. He skirts around inter-clan warfare and intra-clan infanticide, as well as minimizing the conflicts between breeding females much more than is seemly. There’s also meerkat poetry in the book. The photographs are nice, but there are only so many different pictures of a bunch of meerkats sitting in a pile you need before they start to get repetitive.

58. The Geometry of Pasta by Caz Hildebrand and Jacob Kenedy. This is an object lesson in literally judging a book by its cover. I picked this up at a clearance sale that was literally “one bag of books = 10 dollars), and it was sealed and had a display cover on it, so I got nothing but a title and some graphic design. I figured, oh hey, a book about the history of pasta, and threw it into the bag. There is some history of pasta here, but it’s mostly a cookbook. If I had to sum it up in one word, I’d say “bougie”. Nigella Lawson seems to think the author is “stylish, knowledgeable and witty” (so says the back cover). I got more “pretentious, condescending and snide”. Quite a few of the recipes include split-second timing, equipment and ingredients out of the reach of most home chefs. The graphic design is pleasant, but that’s about it (and the “graphic designer” who gets cover billing isn’t actually the person who drew the pasta, merely arranged other people’s art).

59. Spiders of the World, edited by Norman L. Platnick. This is a survey of the spiders of the world, just like it says on the cover. The book is arranged loosely taxonomically, but as the authors state, they’re using the most widely used classification system rather than the newest, because family level taxonomy changes so rapidly in arachnology (several revisions had been made during the writing and editing processs). Lots of obscure groups are covered here that I’d never heard of, and the photography is generally gorgeous. We of course end with the jumping spiders in the Salticidae, the rockstars of the spider world—the family gets three full page spreads. I honestly wish that there were more books like this for other groups of animals and plants. This might be my favorite book of the reading log project so far.

60. Welsh Monsters and Mythical Beasts by CCJ Ellis. I backed this project on Kickstarter, and the book just arrived in the mail a few days ago. This is a small art book of Welsh folklore, with gorgeous illustrations, some in color and some in black and white. Some of the entries include folktales about the creature in question, and a few (like the pwka and gwiber, contain fun faux natural history details. The author and artist is an independent scholar, and her bio in the back states that she’s received a grant to do a similar project on Chinese mythical beasts. A similar book on the Guideways through Mountains and Seas would be incredible. This book is something in publishing limbo at the moment—Kickstarter backers have their copies, but a wide printing of the book won’t be available for several months yet. sorry but i exited out of the harry potter quiz at the super long sleeping at last lyrics question because parsing that much text is painful. please don't claim at the start of the quiz that you're not going to do the taylor swift thing but then pull the exact same stunt with your favourite indie band instead
Hello Anon! I apologize, to be honest, the lyrics were so long because I can’t read that block of text well enough to be worth editing it for my friends when I thought they would be only ones taking it haha! I am going to go back in and split the lyrics up onto multiple screens today and shorten them if I can to make it easier for people to visually process! The Taylor Swift comment in the beginning was specifically in reference to the type of questions that are like “pick your favorite song off Lover” or “what song off of Melodrama by Lorde are you” and then just list the titles. Although I do like songs from both those artists, it’s kind of a running joke in my groupchat where I have to screenshot that question and send it to my friends and be like “alright y’all, which one am I?” since I’m not the kind of person who listens to full albums of anybody (yes this includes sleeping at last, I did just google some of those lyrics). What I meant by “I don’t know a taylor swift song so you don’t have to know anybody!” Wasnt a dig at Taylor Swift it was more a dig at me. I wanted to put lyrics instead of just song titles so that people could read through and pick something that reflected them versus relying on others or spending a bunch of time on azlyrics. I have gotten a ton of feedback on the lyric questions though, and I’m going to be editing them today, and I want to thank everyone who pointed out they were hard to read because the quiz being accessible to people who want to take it and have accurate answers is an important part of it being a quiz for me, and weirdly enough why that comment exists at all. I will probably have that edit done today, but again I hope y’all are as patient as you can be with me because I’m not a professional uquiz maker and have other commitments, but I will do my best to get it done as fast as possible! Edit: I do want to clarify that it’s really important to me that everyone has access to the quiz with as little hindrance as possible, but I’m attempting to make the edits that will impact people’s safety first (warnings, opt out options etc.) so I’m sorting through my asks to make sure I’ve done all I can for now in that department before I do edits that, while shitty and inconvienent, mostly just result in people not meshing well with my quiz rather than my quiz actively triggering hardship. I wish I could do everything at once, and to all my ADHD and poor visually processing brethren-in-arms I apologize both for that and the fact that I Can’t Processs This Text Well Enough To Break It Up so This is easier to read (the eternal struggle sorry friends 😔)

Changeling: the Lost - Seasons Pass #23
On this chapter of Seasons Pass, a great slam and then some. The last post is here, and the full story so far is here.
All usernames have been replaced with their character’s name or “Storyteller” / “ST.” All text is unaltered aside from aforementioned name changing, italicizing quotes, and adding periods where otherwise multiple chat posts together would look like a run-on sentence; there will also be edits involved in how roll20′s /me commands are presented. All details given are publicly available to the entire group.
Last time, you'll remember, Lorelai posing as a "kid" got Nathan's fetch to carry a minifridge for her to "her" car. This was part of a plan to separate the fetch from his door guard Jared so he could be drugged, taken to the desert, and killed. Unfortunately, Jared is not only helping the fetch carry the fridge, he also spotted a disguised Nathan trying to shadow them while holding a homemade rifle, though he doesn't get suspicious enough to do anything about it.
Hell of a trip, this game.
Storyteller: I'd like a quick Int + Occult check Nathan Bitwize: That is chance for me. Anyone else? Logan Lake: From whom would you like the check? Storyteller: Anyone. A success will reveal something you may have shared before starting this Logan: *fails* Tyler Morrison: *gets 1 success* Lorelai: *fails* Storyteller: Okay, Tyler shares that fetch-lore is full of inconsistencies but sometimes fetches interact strangely when they come in contact with their original. Some of them realize that they are a fetch, some feel an instinct that tells them the original is an enemy, etc. Anyway, Onward. Jared is keeping an eye on Nathan. He obviously doesn't want him to be here. But he doesn't look like he's about to pummel him. Quite yet Nathan: Nathan's action after Jared notices him is to break off, circle a different block, and stake out the car. Storyteller: Ok. Jared watches Nathan as Nathan goes around the corner, then the two begin moving the fridge more quickly after Jared mutters something to Nate's fetch. Nathan: fucking hell. I think I get the gist of what's going on but I'm not sure how to word it.
The processsion of the minifridge arrives at the car in three minutes. During that time, Nathan books it to get back there (justifying making it in time with his speed of 13). Logan is already back there, having returned before to unlock the trunk on "Lorelai's" car (actually hers), and she hides in plain sight by pretending to belong in the area.
It should be noted that World of Darkness is not a game that requires the use of miniatures like something more rules-heavy such as Dungeons & Dragons. There's an alternate ruleset in one of the extra books for using them, but we don't use them and have kept the game to roll20's chat. That said, things are about to get more complicated more quickly, so the ST draws up a quick "map" of the road around the car to keep things straight.
Nathan takes effort to hide, spending a Willpower to do so, behind the car he's next to to avoid being sighted.
Storyteller: Jared and Nathan's fetch (I'm going to call him Fathan) don't seem to notice you. And you guys are pretty sure they lack the cool to not react to a guy lining them up in the crosshairs Nathan: Which is why I was going to do it while they were walking away, their backs to me. Storyteller: Anyway. They get closer... Jared takes the fridge... Puts it in the car. They begin to walk away Nathan: I'll take aim as quickly at the fetch's neck as quickly as I can then the moment they start walking. Then fire once I have it. Storyteller: Ok. So, probably in range of the first tier of the gun... Make your attack check Nathan: Dex+Firearms, right? I assume a -3 for trying to hit the neck. Storyteller: Yes Nathan: 3 + 2 - 3 (neck) + 3 (spending Willpower again) Storyteller: Okiely dokiely Nathan: Any other modifiers? Storyteller: None Nathan: Let's roll. *gets 2 successes* Storyteller: No defense because he doesn't notice you Nathan: Nathan whispers or perhaps just thinks to himself as he fires, "You're good as gone." Storyteller: Ok. So, apparently this Fetch is a bit of a light-weight. Almost as soon as the dart hits him (btw, I found tranq rules in the Slasher book), he hits the dirt or, rather, pavement. Jared then spins around, pulling out a pistol and taking cover behind a car. Roll intiative!
In order, Nathan gets 14, Lorelai and Logan 12 (Logan rolled after Lorelai), Jared 10, and Tyler 6. Nathan spends some time figuring out what to do, trying to figure out the numbers to nail the hiding Jared with another dart.

Eventually Logan reminds him he doesn't have to aim for the neck, so Nathan spends another Willpower to better his chances of just hitting him in the hopes of giving him a penalty. He does, but Jared's coat blocks most of it.
Storyteller: Lorelai! Jared doesn't seem to care about you! He's focused on the lunatic with the gun! Lorelai: I'm going to activate Splendor of the Envoy's Protection and drag Fathon to the car. That shouldn't count as an attack, right? Nathan: The handsome lunatic, given I'm still disguised with one of Logan's models. Storyteller: Correct... Yes yes. Mr. Ego
Lorelai manages to drag Fathan a third of the way to the car before it's Logan's turn. She sneaks around to get on the far end of the car Jared's covering behind, managing to avoid Jared's notice.
Speaking of that jerk...
Storyteller: Jared fires at Nathan Nathan: Def- right, doesn't apply... Storyteller: Nathan takes 4 damage from the bullets! Jared seems to be a much better shot. Also, he happens to be using a gun that is meant for killing people. 4 lethal damage, mind. Tyler! Probably a good idea to intervene! Nathan: Christ's sake, what the fuck gun is he packing?! Tyler: His gun is size 1 right? Storyteller: Just a normal pistol but he's got a good dice pool Tyler: I'm going to use Smoldergrip to see if I can make him drop it. Storyteller: Also, he's kind of pissed you "killed" Fathan so he's using WP Logan: (Also cars aren't as good at being cover as TV & Movies make them out to be.) Storyteller: Ok! Make your roll! Nathan: First you gotta get over there, right? Tyler: No just line of sight. Nathan: Ah, nifty. Tyler: Going to use willpower too *gets 3 successes* Storyteller: Okay, -1 from size but still a success. What's your mantle rating? Tyler: 1 Storyteller: He howls in pain but manages to hold on for now [Jared] *"WHAT THE FUCK!?" Uh... Nathan. You are kind of bleeding. Also your turn Nathan: OK, definitely not firing again most likely. I only got 1 Willpower left. Storyteller: Oh wait, I forgot the penalty from being sedated a bit. He drops the gun Logan: (To be clear, I do have one of the darts right?) Storyteller: Yes. So Jared is disarmed for the moment
Nathan is seriously hurt and is unable to find any better cover - there's houses behind him and the nearby alley's not enough - so he opts to go prone and make himself a harder target. Lorelai continues dragging the fetch and gets him another meter. Logan tries to take Jared by surprise; rounding the corner of the car, she tries to stab Jared in the leg with the tranq dart she has, but even with his Defense negated due to him being unaware of her, she misses.
Jared, deprived of his weapon and flanked, decides to run. The group lets him go because it's not him they want.
Tyler: (He might go to the cops, on the other hand a lot of us can shapeshift) Nathan: Though if there's houses behind me. The cops may be on their way anyway. Storyteller: Most likely Logan: (My guess is he's got a fairly strong opinion against the cops.) Storyteller: In fact, Nathan and Tyler manage to hear sirens in the distance. Might be unrelated. Maybe. Possibly Tyler: Guys time to go! Nathan: Nathan gets back up and make sure Jared's not there before coming out from cover. "Trunk him and let's bolt!" Storyteller: Okay! Lorelai: Little help, here? Logan: Logan hurries over to help Lorelai shove the fetch in the back seat. Tyler: Gotcha. Lorelai: Is my bike still here? Logan: (Trunk is full of mini fridge) Storyteller: Yeah. What about that minifridge? Logan: (We'll sell it on letgo) Lorelai: (Just shove it out. We don't need it anymore) Nathan: Well Lorelai did pay for it... They wouldn't have started leaving without the money. Logan: (It's quicker to just take it with us we'll sort the fridge out later) Lorelai: Lorelai hops onto her bike, gets her helmet on, and revs it up. Nathan: Nathan gets into the front passenger seat. Tyler: (Is there not enough room in the trunk for both, can we just push it aside?" Storyteller: You manage to get them both in. It's a tight fit Tyler: Tyler gets in the back seat. Nathan: Who cares for the comfort of a dead man? Logan: Logan drives us out to the desert somewhere. But most importantly away from here) Storyteller: He's not dead yet Lorelai: Lorelai follows Logan. Storyteller: And you are off
The Storyteller's running a little low on time, so we only do a quick little more afterwards. After about forty to fify minutes of driving, we discover Fathan had a gun on him... because he woke up and started firing it blindly inside the trunk.
Nathan: Wait what Storyteller: The tranq dart doesn't last THAT long Logan: Yeah we're basically failures. Storyteller: And you didn't tie him up. I mean, it's not really your fault you aren't criminal masterminds. These things take practice Tyler: (And there wasn't really time to tie him up) Nathan: Do the shots pierce out of the car. or...? Logan: Most definitely. Storyteller: Oh yes. The first two miss. The third, which is the last before you manage to pull over, wings Logan for 2 lethal Logan: Logan slams on the breaks to throw him around the trunk a bit. Storyteller: Luckily, no cars are nearbyt Nathan: Nathan never did put the rifle away; quickly starts reloading it. "Admittedly, we were going to tie up Ash right after... Gah, why didn't I think of that...?!" Storyteller: So, guy in the back with a pistol. No telling how many bullets.
Lorelai pulls over. Logan tries some trick braking with the car to jostle him back and stop him from firing, but fails to pull it off, so she pulls over too and everyone gets out.
Nathan: "Someone has to tag him with another dart the moment the trunk opens." Storyteller: [Fathan] "LET ME OUT BEFORE I KILL YOU!" Logan: Logan comes around the car and looks at Nathan, "that favor you owe me, it's gonna suck." Storyteller: He takes another few shots but seems to think you are still in the car. Nathan: "Duly noted..." If he thinks we're in the car, I'm gonna hold the rifle ready to fire and circle around to the back, still keeping some distance. Storyteller: Okay What about the rest of you? Tyler: (Tyler got out as soon as they stopped) Logan: Will, when the time is right and not before, open the trunk for Nathan to shoot him. Storyteller: Okay! You open the trunk! And the game ends! See you next week! Lorelai: Cliffhanger!!! Logan: lol alright, gg Nathan: @^@ My poor heart...

I am so blessed.
I have been given so much. I see things coming into fruition that, at times, I heavily doubted. Things are finally moving. I feel so happy.
But I feel so stuck, and that makes me feel so sad.
Heavy.
I’ve never been able to keep it all together. Everyone has these quadrants in their life, the compartmentalization of who we are, what we say and how we say it depending on the scene and the sensations. I’m starting to think that growing up is just emptying the contents of all of those drawers into a big bin, mixing in your baggage, icing it with your insecurities and sprinkling it with a sugar coated superiority complex that makes people think that you have somehow managed to make this pile of trash look like a treasure trove. Essentially, adulthood, as I’m seeing it presented, is all about acting like you have your shit together when nobody does. (Except for my friend Chloe, who I’m starting to think might actually be a half bionic blessing from the babe gods.)
I’d like to take a different approach to assist with the decompartmenalization process. I’d like to take each drawer and empty them into the bin, yes. My baggage, insecurities, trauma, hopes, dreams, violent mental tendencies and the faith that fights it, all there, living in the bin like they live in me. My brain, bin livin’ edition, on display all the time everywhere.
Can you imagine...? How vulnerable and honest that would be, to be consistently the same human no matter how the wind is shifting.
Maybe you’re thinking that sounds strange, maybe you think that’s already how everyone is. If that’s the case, then I commend you on your astounding faith in humanity, but it’s not realistic. Everyone has walls, human boundaries, things you’d say to your mother but not the grocery store clerk, to your partner but not your pastor. I’m talking wall to wall consistency here.
A few years ago I decided to start a personal policy of never saying anything ABOUT someone that I wouldn’t say TO them. Further more, if I did for the sake of processsing or venting, it needed to be with the intention to communicate with them and then let them know of the things I verbally shared. A great first step to consistency, but that’s just the audible part.
What about my brain?
That’s where I’m going to start now. I have a few areas to smooth over. I have a few places to say “HERE’S MY BIN OF BUSINESS, THIS IS UNAPOLOGETICALLY WHO I AM, TAKE IT AND LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT AND LOSE IT”.
I think that this morning, I’ve decided that I’m done hiding behind a dulled personality for the comfort of others. I think at almost 26, I finally feel confident enough to be myself. What a trip.

Apple ещё во время анонса семейства смартфонов iPhone 12 представила новый формат изображений ProRAW, который призван объединить преимущества вычислительной фотографии и обработки RAW. Недавно компания выпустила бета-версию iOS 14.3 для разработчиков, которая, среди других улучшений, включает поддержку ProRAW. И мы уже можем сделать кое-какие выводы.

До сих пор было мало что известно о рабо��ем процессе ProRAW и о том, какой тип файла будут получать на выходе iPhone 12 Pro. Increase max number of open files of mongodb on Ubuntu with systemd
You can increase the maximum number of open files of a processs spawn by systemd by editing its config file, for example, /lib/systemd/system/mongod.service.
But it'd be better to use drop-in file. In this case, create a directory in /etc/systemd/system based on the service name, and put a configuration file in it.
For mongodb, you can create /etc/systemd/system/mongod.service.d/nofile.conf (the filename itself doesn't matter, but it should have .conf extension), and put the following line to increase the number of open files.
[Service] LimitNOFILE=1006500
You need to make systemd reload configuration files by sudo systemctl daemon-reload, then restart the service by sudo systemctl restart mongod.
Use systemctl status mongod to check if this configuration was applied properly.

THEORY FOR THE CLAN (as explained to someone on YouTube)
+suga is so hot that he's gonna turn into caramel Freal? You're more eloquent than most people I encounter. Honestly.
EDIT. I gave in. I'm not really able to account for everything because `FIGHTER` M/V doesn't make sense, so just gonna keep it rough... Getting this out of the way: the entire "battle" with Monsta X running away from / exploring and finding a beating heart in the sky ? That's been alluded to as a completely different dimension by our boys themselves on MPD's `ALL IN` M/V Commentary video. I'm onto that. Next, they also stated that with the ritualistic use of the [(delphinium)] planted by Jooheon that something REALLY crazy like reality changing/bending occurred when the X-Clan got together. All in all, my brain took that to mean that alternate dimensions interplay or even splice into other dimensions, through different 'doppelganger' interconnected personas, or, twins, if you will. Consumption of the [(delphinium)] formula that the X-Clan somehow knew how to make ensured neither death nor life but a guaranteed switching to the reality and other world inhabited by your... twin? (I TOLD YOU THIS IS COMPLEX AND INSANE.) So, all in all, alternate universes exist in this crazy-ass story... Three, to be exact. The "battling" dimension with the pulsing blue heart you already know. Let's call it `Alpha`!
We don't know much about Alpha.
The `ALL IN` dimension, of course, is another. Let's call that `Beta`. The beta dimension revolves around Jooheon for all intents and purposes, but we have some other very interesting characters. Firstly and somewhat unfortunately, the little-seen Kihyun definitely has some sort of disability that, while not crippling, definitely held him back from a active participatory role in the story. Moving on from there, the story involves 1) a sickly patriarch(?) with his last(?) descendant fearing for his health condition, and; 2) a group of probably younger friends of said descendant, one of whom is said to be a victim of abuse by his father, who so happens to be a member of some sort of faction that his son and his comrades in the X-Clan openly dislike, albeit both of them existing within a larger military dictatorship enforcing martial law (no shoe selling lol). Bearing a grudge against his friend's abuser, one of these youngsters sets fire to a military building and before doing so sprays the letter 'X' on a window or two -- EXCEPT that he tilts it to look like the insignia used by the abusive father's faction. The father thus got arrested, and who knows, possibly became one of the disappeared or openly murdered, leaving his son and our friend orphaned. We all know how this all ends. `Beta` is not a happy story. I'm not certain yet how Shownu and Minhyuk/Hyungwon fare after 'leaving' that shitty dimension... We might never know, and I might have to admit I was wrong about this sci-fi thing.
Lastly, and infuriatingly, with this new comeback two, three, four different dimensions just RANDOMLY popped up between the squeaky-clean white hospital and the dirty-as-fuck "mindscape" where Shownu dances in utter isolation for...what reason? Aside from titillating viewers (breaking the fourtH WALL IN THE PROCESSS I WILL HURL SOMETHING AT K.WILL)???? I DON'T KNOW. LET'S JUST CALL ALL OF THEM `Omega`!!!
P.S. I actually believe that in the `((Narration Teaser)) - Oath of Shownu,` each time Shownu repeats _one_ or, _hana_ there's a reference to the dynamics and importance held by exactly ONE of these dimensions each. I'll go ahead and copy from my notes.
- _One: we will retrieve back everything that we have lost. / ...One: We will occupy our empty hearts._ Most likely referring to `Beta` and 'Alpha,' respectively.
- _...One: We will find ourselves the right path to get back on and march forward._ The `Oath of Minhyuk` referring to "the path" made me think that this one referred to `Omega.` The rising emotion and positivity of both the song and M/V make me think that the twins of this world somehow have something positive to spread after all the loss and emptiness that I outlined above.
- _...One: We will never leave anyone else behind._ This is the next comeback's story being foreshadowed. Someone somehow got lost, or taken, and everybody else implicated in the story makes an attempt to get them back, to right some wrong, or just to save them? I don't know?
-Yeah... See... I told you it didn't make sense.- That was it! I actually had a lot of fun putting that down. Thank you so much for sharing your theory. It made a lot more sense LMAO!

Unit 70
Pre-Production
Inspiration

I looked at my Mood-Board that I had created for Unit 79. I decided to look into those games I mentioned and create a mood board focusing on their game environments.



I found a lot of stuff from these games which I liked. I really like the low-poly rocks and trees that animal crossing and LittleBigPlanet use. They’re also assets which can be made quickly and in large amounts so you can create a nice variety to populate the game world with. In Splatoon I like the bright billboards and signs which decorate the city. I’ll be creating an urban section to so I’ll look into how they’ve created various buildings.
Urban Environment Board

Nature Environment Board

My plan is for the player to start in the nature environment. They’ll be sent to retrieve a key from the bottom of a mine so they can enter the city. The city will be located on the higher portion of the map.
Landscape
Sculpting
I created a basic flat landscape and began using the sculpt tool to create a higher area. I then used the smooth tool to smooth the cliff side so the textures weren’t as stretched.
I also used the flatten tool which upon use makes anything you brush over the same height as what you started on. This is great for having flat ground at different heights.
I then used the ramp tool to place two points. I moved the bottom point a little closer to the cliff and adjusted the width of the lines to give the cliff a thicker walkway.
This is a great tool for creating natural ramps between two different levels in the environment. It’s a lot quicker than manually sculpting, smoothing and flattening a ramp myself.
By holding shift I can invert the brush and create crevices in my landscape. I used this to create a pond which I’ll later fill with water. I made use of the hydro-erosion and smooth tool to get a realistic slope into the pond rather then it being too sharp.
It’s important to think about how the different sections of the landscape would have different materials (when I later paint the landscape)
When creating a landscape you can also choose to use height maps which automatically generate and sculpt your landscape according the a height map image. This is great for creating huge landscapes where manually sculpting every mountain and crevice would be too time consuming. For my project however I decided to simply sculpt it myself as I’m only creating a small compact environment. A downside of this however is I’ll have to make use of fog, lighting and assets to hide the edge of the world from the player character. This becomes much harder as they reach higher areas. I wouldn’t have this problem if I had decided to the an interior of a building. I’m happy with my choice however as I’m enjoying the landscaping tools and learning a lot about UE4 which will help me in the future.
After the painting processs I went back and sculpted hills around the edge of the area to act as a natural barrier to contain the player.
Painting
To start the process of painting my landscape I first had to create materials for the different layers such as grass, dirt and sand.
I found a few images of grass and edited them together in photoshop.

I added small dots to stick to the stylised feel that I’m going for. For the dirt and sand I simply found some JPEGs from online that suited this style. I then imported the textures into UE4 and began working in the material editor to create a landscape material.
I created a layer blend with different sections for each material.
I did the same for the normal maps which I also created in photoshop.
An issue I had with the materials is that they were tiling and it didn’t look good when placed on the landscape. To reduce this I used ‘texture bombing’
The texturing bombing lets me add some variety to the texture tiling. I also did the same with the normal maps so they line up correctly. The normal maps are great for giving the illusion of depth to the grass. I used similar techniques when adding my other materials.
Another issue I had with some of the dirt was I didn’t like the colour. I simply used a colour parameter to add an orange hue. This also makes the dirt work nicely with the rock assets I created.
I mentioned how it’s important to stick to a colour palette so the world looks coherent.
All the textures then connect to the layer blend which then connect to the base colour and normals. I also added a 0.5 constant to the roughness which makes the landscape reflect light a little less. I could of set it to 1 to be more realistic but I like the small shine and I’m not going for complete realism.
Painting in UE4 is really simple! You simply select the layer (after creating a landscape layer weight) and use the brush to paint directly onto your landscape. You can edit the brush size and strength to get your desired affect. I started my covering the entire area in grass then covering a pond area in sand. I blended in the two different types of dirt along the cliffside (with a low strength) to create a semi-realistic cliff-face.
I’m happy with my first attempt. I’ll make use of my dirt textures to create pathways to guide the player through the natural segment of the project. I’ll also use assets such as rocks, fences and trees to populate the landscape (and help guide the player character).
I really like how I can go back and repaint the landscape at any time. As I place assets I can change the landscape to suit the needs of the level instead of being stuck with what I’ve created at this moment.
I end up going back and editing my grass texture in Photoshop. I made it more stylised and bright.
Environmental Assets
Rocks
I began creating more environmental assets to populate my game world. I started off simple by creating stylised rocks.
Here’s the base material. I then created two material instances and made the colour a parameter. I have a dark and light one to have a difference between the sides and tops of the rock formations. I wanted a cartoony and colourful environment like I described in other units.
I created my models in Maya using tools I’ve used before such as extrude and multi-cut. I then imported them into UE4 and applied the textures to preview them.
I made sure to set the collision as ‘complex as simple’ which means the character can walk along the mesh accurately.
I’m really happy with the textures at the moment. They fit the simple stylised world I want to create. I made the top edges a little brighter as I like the contrast.
I also created normal maps in Photoshop which give the illusion of depth to the material. It’s especially noticeable when the material is reacting to light.
Trees
I experimented with different trees in Maya and settled on a smooth flat top design. This will be useful for if the player needs to jump across the tree tops to reach higher points.
I did the UVs for the tree and the trunk. It was difficult finding a good place for the seam on the tree head.
I then created the material for the tree. I began with the tree head. I used two different spot patterns to create a fun material.
For the trunk I used a wood texture and changed the base colour to be darker. I also used the panner tool so the material slowly rotates.
After playing around on the materials I placed the asset into the world and placed a few to see how it looked.
I’ll create a few more variants and use different sizes and placements to avoid too much repetition. I also want to go back and tweak the landscape materials as they’re a little too realistic compared to the cartoony assets I’m creating.
I decided I wasn’t happy with the original tree texture and went back to create better normal maps which will help improve the quality. I find when thinking of ideas in my head they don’t always look how I thought when placed in the project especially when comparing them to the game world I’m creating. It’s great that it’s so easy to go back into UE4 and make changes to textures and also go back into Maya and make changes to the UVs if necessary. I don’t feel like I’m stuck when I find something I don’t like about my models because I can always edit them.
I’m a lot happier with the appearance of the trees and I’ll continue to stick to this style as I create more.
Foliage
I need to create grass to populate my landscape to give it more depth.
I began by finding a grass PNG that suited the style I was going for.
I then created a material instance and applied it to a blueprint class of four panes (double sided).
I made sure to remove collision as the player needs to be able to walk through the grass. I went into the material editor and made some changes.
Here’s the blueprint that gives the grass movement. I can change the intensity and speed the grass moves in the wind. I also used a Linear Gradient node to ensure only the top ends of the grass sway in the wind. This movement gives the scene more life.
An issue I came across was the gaps between the panes were too dark and looked weird. To remedy this I created two more PNGS and blended them together into the emissive input.
This means the texture ignores some of the light and doesn’t cast large shadows. Here’s a before and after. Notice how the gaps between the grass are now a darker green and not completely black.
I liked the grass however it was bland just having the same thing repeated across the level. I went back and looked at other foliage that would make sense to have in a forest area near a pond.

I went into maya and created some toadstool mushrooms and also some oyster mushroom clusters. The clusters can be placed on walls of rock, or trees. The toadstools can be scattered across the ground and also large ones can be used as platforms by the player. The lily-pads will be platforms for the player to jump across the pond. They’ll sink however if the player stands on them for too long!

I placed my Lilypad across the lake to see how they looked and created the texture in UE4.
Mine Entrance
I created a simple plank in Maya and exported to Unreal. I then used the landscaping tools to build a hill and carve a hole into it. I then placed my plank and rocks to create a mine entrance. I want to keep the entrance to the mine dark as it’ll teleport the player to a different area (I’m planning it to be a boss battle room) however I do want light on the outside to show off the models.
I needed to place a light at the mine entrance but didn’t have a source for the light with my assets so I went into Maya and created a lantern model which will act as this source.
I then decided to create a minecart which I can reuse for the outside and inside of the mine. I obviously only needed to create one wheel and can simply duplicate it.
I placed a couple of carts around. In different levels of disrepair. I’m really excited because I made sure to make them hollow so I can place other assets inside them of have enemies use them for cover. I can also place useful items inside which will train the player to search them and eventually let me trick them by hiding a trap/enemy in one.
Crystals/Ore
I want to create colourful crystals/ore to populate my rocky mine area. I’ve always found them really eye catching when used in other games. I created a simple cylinder in Maya and played with the attributes such as subdivision axis and height.
I can create more crystals of different sizes and shapes with this method. I’ll then create the textures in Unreal.
I made use of the Fresnel node. I’m a big fan of how it pushes out the colour. I inverted the Fresnel so unlike the holograms I made which has a coloured centre and white outline the crystals have a white centre and coloured edge. I made the yellow a parameter that can also be changed. The great thing about using material instances is that it’s the quickest rendering and is generally less demanding on the system.
I placed a couple of the crystals in the level of different colours. I also went back and created a small smooth rock to have some jutting out of.
I created some mine tracks to make it obvious to the player that the area is an old mine and also adds something interesting to the ground which is very flat and bland at the moment.
I created three different sets which I can easily extend to make longer ones. I also made bent ones for corners and some that had an incline.
Dust Clouds
I made use of the particle system to create some dust clouds to give the impression of the dusty dry area that the mines would be like.
I set the colour, hardness and extinction of the dust clouds as parameters so they can be changed on the fly.
I created a thin and wide cylinder emitter and set the particles lifespan to a constant.
Here you can see I’ve placed a couple of the emittors around the scene. I focused on shrouding the entrance to the mine as it’ll teleport the player upon entering them to an interior scene.
Lake area
I placed a simple space plane and resized it to fill the lake area. I then turned off it’s collision so the player character can move through it.
I then added a custom material that I created to the plane.
I also placed a post processing volume inside the lake which blurs and changes the tint of the screen to blue. I made it so the transition is instantaneous as the player character falls into the water.
Here’s the material that I made. The parameters can be changed in the editor which is great to easily preview how it will look. With the panner nodes I can change the speed which the water moves. I’m really happy with how my lake turned out as it’s the first time I created water. I’ll decorate the rest of the lake and great a fishing pier. I’ll also create collision boxes to change how the player character moves when inside the water.
Urban Assets
Buildings
I created a handful of small simple buildings in Maya. These can be placed together to create different buildings and give more variety. I also made sure to have sections where different materials can be assigned such as glowing sections or windows.
I placed simple placeholder textures on them to see how it looked. I used these assets for my small scene in a previous unit.
Clutter
I also created clutter such as signs, wires and lamp posts. These help populate the urban environment and make it more interesting.
This clutter can be used in lots of different ways. For example wires can hang across the street like powerlines which make the scene more interesting but also give a place for birds to sit. The same wires could instead be used to plug into a mechanical asset and give an explanation for how it’s powered. Lamp posts not only fill the street but also provide the level with a source of light which will be very useful for any night scenes I might create.

These photos have little or no edition, leaving the path for those who wish to do the post-processsing work saturating the colors or even the reds from the fruits.
It’s boring when you find the perfect image and it’s over processed. I try to avoid this mistake in my pictures. Of course there are exceptions. Check my imagens on Shutterstock.
