the "reality of hell" is not at all like "the reality of if u touch fire it will burn you". there are many ways you can teach someone "fire burns", but the reality of hell, such as it is, is known entirely through revelation.

revelation is elusive -- nothing else is like it -- and anyone who isn't playing at being a childish bimbo entirely in some fandom "yes-and" simulacrum, refusing to consider anything that breaks the fantasy, on the verge of a meltdown, knows this.

This is one sense in which it is great "not having to believe in Hell", because it means not having to be part of the Hell Fandom.

I saw a post last week on Twitter about popular fandom property "Good Omens" in which some fandom people were squeeing about a character in the TV show who was An Angel who was riding some kind of motorised wheelchair.

This makes approximately no sense, in usual Christian terms, but "Good Omens" is a Neil Gaiman vehicle, and Gaiman's popularity has largely come about because he was one of the late 20th century authors (like the people at LucasArts who made Afterlife) who, almost scientifically, took what one might call "the broad Gothic/Catholic/Folk Occultist spiritual current" and refined it into pure fandom -- both in the above, and usual sense -- thereby emotionally and aestheticslly atisfying people who wanted to have some relation to the Hell Fandom, but who also wanted this aesthetic experience to be divorced from ethical or philosophical considerations, and from this he grew moderately wealthy, although not as wealthy as the people who encourage participation in the unrefined form of the Hell Fandom.

It’s bizarre that some people consider learning about the reality of hell a “religious trauma.”

There are consequences for your actions.

That said, if your focus (Christian or not) is entirely on the reality of hell and not on the incredible love of God and His promises for those who love Him, it’s time to reevaluate. Our focus shouldn’t be “I’m going to hell/you’re going to hell/they’re going to hell”

Rather, “My desire is to be with God and my hope is in His promises.”
