i think i might've cracked riptide. or at least the black sea side of things
tl:dr (the rest is under the cut) - there's a third god in mana, a god of night, who's linked to the black sea, niklaus, kuba kenta, chip, and the entirety of my egg theory (search the tag on my blog for further reference). please do read the rest because i do think i've connected the dots here
i'm gonna start in an odd place and you're gonna have to bear with me for a moment but i promise it'll make sense in a second
kuba kenta. not a super relevant guy at the moment, but he's had his moments. he cursed both chip and gill to suffer nightmares that worsen each time you sleep, a curse which eventually kills you. it's spread via his claws or teeth when he mauls you, and the wound will become infected, leaking black ichor. where have we heard of black ichor before? mayor loffin, the blossom boss, the empress: basically anyone who's made a deal with niklaus hendrix and had bad intentions has had their deal corrupted and thus started coughing up black ichor
interesting connection, but they don't have much in common as characters. i mean, niklaus hendrix was a pirate, and kuba kenta is a vice admiral for the navy. but what else is kuba kenta? a demon. a demon summoned or at least found and enlisted by the navy. a demon who regenerates each time he dies and is now in captivity in the naval base in the black sea. who else is linked to the black sea? niklaus hendrix. bingo. but before we move onto him, let's stick with the navy for a moment. the navy who has a base in the black sea where they're up to all sorts of shady things including, according to a recording jay found, potentially expanding the black sea (or at least researching its expansion). weird. the navy's interested in the expansion of the black sea and they've enlisted a demon who curses people to suffer nightmares and leak black ichor. black ichor, black sea
niklaus hendrix. what do we know about him? well, he's a tiefling who used to be a pirate lord known as captain hendrix. he has access to the wish spell, allowing him to make deals with all sorts of powerful figures across mana, deals with mysterious prices, deals which are corrupted if the person has an impure desire, thus making them cough up black ichor. he marks his deals with the symbol of a crescent moon, filled in black, which jay learns symbolises corruption. interesting that this moon doesn't seem to be linked to lunadeyis, goddess of the moon. no one's made the connection in canon. we also know niklaus has direct ties to the black sea. he knows what happened to the black rose pirates when they disappeared there and accidentally created the black sea in the first place - he said to chip he knew that arlin was still alive, but suffering. he gives lots of special treatment to chip (technically he has three deals going with chip at the moment: the one to de-age ollie, the one with the deck of many things, the one with captain widow's heart), and says it's important for chip to save arlin but not touch anything in the place arlin is (heavily implied to be the egg - he specifically says "not you anyway" about not touching it, so i think that's what gillion's favour is gonna be. check my posts under the egg theory tag for more info). so chip's related to the black sea too (also have made more posts about this, check em out)
but there's one more thing about niklaus that's very interesting to me. when asked his desire, what he wanted, he gave the one word reply "freedom". my running theory so far is that he's a warlock for the entity trapped in the place beneath the black sea, and he was trapped into a deal long ago and is going to make gillion release the entity. but i'll get into the entity in just a moment. further evidence of niklaus being a warlock: there's a subclass called 'the genie' which pretty much describes everything i think he's got going on. seriously, i think that's almost definitely his class
okay moving on. time to get into the prophecy and the legend lore. because holy shit guys. okay. prophecy. i'm gonna go through it line by line. "an entity threatens the world's stability" which was represented in the animatic in the episode as a darkness. "caged in the deepest layers of infinity" well we know it was locked away, and it was trapped in the place beneath the black sea, where there's a strange city that seems to be frozen in time. this seems to fit with 'deepest layers of infinity'. "the seal remains locked by a key of divinity" the seal, i'm guessing, is the egg that we saw in the animatic and the black rose oneshot. the egg which caused the black sea's creation when drey touched it. now 'key of divinity' is, i think, likely gillion himself. he's the chosen one, right, and he's been shown to be able to unlock doors that no one else can, like on desire island when he was getting the compass (which niklaus made, so perhaps if he's the warlock to this entity, he made that door as a test?)
divinity obviously relates to aster and lunadeyis, the only two gods we've heard about thus far, of the sun and moon respectively. but isn't two gods strange? what about the rule of three, a rule which seems especially relevant with three protagonists, and even more so when two of those three are connected to the gods (gill to lunadeyis, jay to aster - yes i know gill is likely technically connected to both (or is he?)). a third god, then. a god of the stars? that completes the trilogy, surely. except no, that doesn't make sense. we haven't had any star symbolism or references. besides, aster, the sun god, has her name meaning star. and the sun being a star, perhaps she's already the god of stars. so back to square one. the sun. the moon. what about the night? a dark, corrupting, chaotic force. well, that fits perfectly, don't you think? and who is our god of night? why, none other than the entity threatening the world. why else would the goddesses themselves need to seal it away?
back to the prophecy. i'm actually going to skip a bit and go straight to the line about the conditions of the chosen one's birth. "underneath an eclipse, in the midst of a storm". eclipses happen when the moon covers the sun or vice versa. for drama's sake, let's assume it's probably a solar eclipse, so that also relates to darkness. storms are chaotic. so maybe gillion's birth conditions are related to this night god
onto the legend lore. "a map that is a guide and key" the map which appeared on the backs of drey, chip, and finn. surviving members of the black rose pirates. interestingly, neither lizzie nor roofus seem involved in this map business, but i'm sure there's a reason for that. it leads them to the hole in the sea and acts as a key to let them in. "it leads to chaos infinity" well, we know this is the entity, perhaps the god of night and chaos, and infinity references the prison it's kept in. "the guarding giant, the nameless prince, the unborn kings, all await to be inevitably free". i'm going to guess the guarding giant is jug, who used to be a member of the black rose pirates and clearly didn't make it out of the black sea. the nameless prince we've heard of before - or we've heard of a prince before, one who consumed worlds. it was referenced in the feywild arc, so it's possible this prince is the doctor, and either the doctor is the nameless prince or a completely unrelated prince. the prince could be chip, as i've theorised before, or niklaus (unlikely, i think), or the entity itself. prince could also relate to princes of hell, which links back to kuba kenta the demon, so perhaps the entity is a prince of hell type of god. we've heard of hell before in canon, as that's where filipe went. maybe there'll be a hell arc. maybe the place beneath the black sea is hell. who knows. "unborn kings" is the only one i don't really have an idea for yet. there was a mountain with a crown atop it carved into the spiral staircase the black rose pirates went down in the hole in the sea. there's a mountain (volcano?) on the opposite side of the planet to the big tree of mana. probably those things are linked somehow. either demons or dragons i'm gonna guess
so what do we have so far, as a summary. i think the entity trapped beneath the black sea is the god of night and chaos, who will be released by gillion under the conditions of niklaus' favour. niklaus is a warlock of this god, with the subclass of genie, allowing him to grant wishes but keeping him trapped in servitude and forcing him to set up this way for the god to be released. possibly this is why niklaus doesn't leave his pocket dimension very often. somehow, the navy is involved, either directly with niklaus or on a different branch, with kuba kenta serving the god of night and chaos (did i mention the curse he gives is very linked to night, with the nightmares, and is obviously very chaotic. also who do we know is capable of breaking the curse? clerics of lunadeyis (and possibly of aster, but we have no evidence of this as of yet) and the navy being interested in the expansion of the black sea. is kuba kenta serving as a messenger between the god of night and the navy? is this why he has such a high status? or is the navy double crossing him - as he's now imprisoned and doesn't seem best pleased with it. it's not clear if the navy is serving aster by attempting to destroy this god of chaos and night, or by attempting to release it? either way, they could be misguided and not reflecting aster's true wishes, after all she played a part in locking the entity away
there's a lot we don't know, and a lot i could pick up if i rewatched the whole campaign and took lots of notes (which i plan on doing once i'm done with uni for the summer) but this is what i've come up with so far. i'm not rereading this whole damn essay, so apologies if there are typos or parts that don't make sense
what do you guys think about this all? is a god of night plausible or has bee wings-of-flying done the connecting the dots meme

((yap session/theory
((i think. personally. the main antagonist is gonna be A. asriel/ralsei twist villain B. sans + papyrus twist villain OR its gonna be like. a truth vs ideals/ two points kinda thing, where both sides have a point but you have to pick. i have reasons under cut but nobody is allowed to call me crazy
((i just feel like it being JUST gaster in the end would be sooo predictable and obvious, like. omgg guys scary shadow mystery man is bad . like what.
((currently going with the two points one as my main theory for several reasons. such as but not limited to 1. “who will miss him” (“him” is used to refer to asriel and gaster(?) in undertale, but ppl would obviously miss asriel, he’s a really popular and well liked guy in hometown. gaster however (a lot of assumptions here) seems to be a kinda shut in bunker in the woods type guy.) since we know “papyrus is busy” (and he is labeled as “forgettable” in the ut genocide description, plus a very accepting and forgiving guy) i would assume he is going to be the one looking for him - because he cares about everyone and sees good in everyone. sans isnt looking, however, making me think that gasters more of a morally gray character? and asriel/flowey seemed to have very a black and white moral compass (to me, which is debatable). leading me into my next idea/point
((asriel is using gasters soul as a save point to play videogames with kris. first of all everybody realizes ralsei is the only darkner who can travel between dark worlds with the gang. second is eye colors. we see several reoccurring patterns with colors and souls and eye colors, the main ones im reffering to are sans (cyan/patience + yellow/justice), IMAGE_FRIEND/spamton (magenta/perserverence + yellow/justice) (and jevil just has yellow eyes (justice)). i think (big leaps here) image_friend is papyrus, who has magenta/yellow eyes (in opposition to sans’ cyan/yellow). this would mean they have yellow in common, which i think is . gasters color. (along with indigo or purple maybe (magenta+cyan))
((also think its his color bc of the egg thing.*
((yellow is the save point color in undertale, but not deltarune. which wouldnt make sense, except cyan yellow and magenta can make either black or white depending on whether its print media (light world?) or digital media (dark worlds?). this could also be me connecting pieces that dont fit, so take with a grain of salt of course.

((*the egg thing is big for me but i could also be insane for it. first of all. hard boiled?? wont hatch but leaves due to happiness. i think that will be gasters good ending, however that plays out. on the other hand,
((have u guys ever heard of shocking a hard boiled egg in ice water before u peel it?? iceshock Is one of noelles attacks. i think the weird route/snowgrave will be the one where u fight gaster in the end. this is another reason i think gaster will either be good or morally gray - you have to be a total dick thru snowgrave to fight him. these last two points may be seperate from the main one, not sure.
((anyways this has been wdg mod throwing sketti at the wall. i may add onto this or scrap it entirely

WHAT IS UP WITH THE FUCKING EGGS?? I'm losing sleep over this so enjoy my brain rotted theories and ramblings.
The main reason I disagree with the idea that they're simply "easter eggs" is because of the item description: "not too important, but not too unimportant". If they were just easter eggs, I don’t think the description would comment on their importance, and “not too unimportant” implies that they are at least somewhat important. I assume this means that the eggs play some role (however small) in the larger story.
I'm basing my egg theories upon the theory that Gaster is the one who created the world of Deltarune, which a lot of people have talked about (I can go into more in depth if anyone’s interested though). That being said, the eggs don't seem to follow the rules of the universe as set by Gaster, by which I mean they are items found in the dark world that don’t disappear when brought to the light world. To me, this suggests that someone other than Gaster is creating these hidden “egg rooms” and maybe their relationship with Gaster is their motivation for giving Kris the eggs. Maybe someone is giving these eggs to Kris in order to usurp Gaster’s plans in some way.
Or maybe the fact that the eggs don’t disappear or transform when Kris brings them from the dark world to the light world may mean that the eggs ORIGINALLY CAME FROM the light world and somehow were brought into the dark world. As far as I know, any character or item that originates from the dark worlds will magically disappear or turn into something else. Maybe the reason the eggs can go between the two worlds freely is because they originated from the light world. Maybe they slipped out of the light world and into the dark world in the same way Gaster and (possibly) Dess did, falling into a chasm of pure darkness and becoming lost, but then the question becomes, how did the eggs make it to Kris? Perhaps someone from the light world purposely brought the eggs into the dark world to give to Kris, but who?
The rooms the eggs are found in are also rooms that only Kris can enter. In fact, none of the other characters even seem to notice or care when Kris leaves them behind to enter the hidden egg rooms. This suggests that maybe these “egg rooms” exist outside of time and space, so from the viewpoint of Noelle or Ralsei it’s like Kris never left at all.
It's also interesting that both of the eggs seem to have a predetermined place in the light world. There is only one spot where you can put each egg. This could suggest that the spots where we put the eggs at the end of the chapters are the spots where the eggs originally came from and Kris is merely returning them to their rightful places.
Or could this possibly be related to the "goner" characters from Undertale? The characters that disappeared not just from existence but from memory too, but who still have a small chance to briefly appear to the player throughout the game. Maybe the eggs are the remnants of characters that Gaster erased from the world.
And then there’s the problem of the mysterious man who gives Kris the eggs, i.e. The Eggman. Maybe The Eggman is a goner character himself. He behaves like one, appearing in very instances and disappearing into thin air after interacting with the player.
But part of me thinks that The Eggman might not actually exist, and by that I mean that he doesn’t exist in the same way that Toriel and Susie and Alphys exist. The Eggman might only exist as an abstract in-game method of egg delivery. We never see him so he doesn’t have an in-game sprite or canonical appearance. He doesn’t have any associated music or speech noises or any sounds at all. Maybe he’s just a textbox egg delivery mechanism.
Or maybe (let me put on my tin foil hat real quick) The Eggman is Sans.
WAIT WAIT DON’T LEAVE YET PLEASE LET ME EXPLAIN!!
The Eggman would have to be someone who has meta knowledge of the game world. They would have to be able to sneakily work around Gaster’s meta magic and secretly place a hidden room to wait for Kris with the egg. In Undertale, Sans is shown to have more meta knowledge than any other character, except maybe Flowey/Asriel. They would also have to have motivation to do this. Sans is a notorious prankster and it would be pretty funny to have the player collect these hidden eggs throughout every chapter, only for the whole thing to end up as the punchline to a joke or an epic prank. And Sans’ skeleton head kinda looks like an egg!! Ok, I know that’s a stretch but it’s a fun theory nonetheless.
Obviously, it’s hard to know anything with certainty at this point in the story and that’s intentional. Toby Fox seems to be playing the story very close to their chest and keeping a lot of important details shrouded in mystery. I’m just so excited to see where the story goes and what sort of twists await us!!

Hi I noticed you’re a shifter and I was wondering if you could give me advice on something! I haven’t made a script for a DR since 2022 but now that I’m shifting to Arcane I would feel more comfortable if I got my thoughts written down. Anyway one thing I’m struggling with is how I fit into their reality and their story. In League of Legends and in Arcane, every character is unique and strong as an individual and relevant to the story in their own way. Adding myself in there makes me feel like an imposter because I’m really nothing special. Maybe it’s a case of main character syndrome but I want to contribute to the story and their lives in some way. I don’t want to steal anyone else’s backstory such as Ekko creating the Firelights, or Cait being the sheriff, or Jinx building weapons to cause chaos in Piltover. Do you have any ideas on what I could script to be a backstory for myself that’s relevant to the story? :)
Oh, my, GOSH. I FELT THE SAME WAY AS YOU WHEN I STARTED WANTING TO SHIFT TO ARCANE OMGOGMGOGMGOF
anyway
But YES, HEYYYY!! My fellow Arcane shifter🙂↕️ This turns into a lil rant, sorry😔☝🏾
I asked the very same questions, like - GENUINELY!! For me, I'm a people pleaser irl, but like - adding myself into the Arcane universe also made ME feel out of place.
So I started questioning like - why do I feel like I don't belong there? Should I shift somewhere else? The answer was - YES, I WAS, shifting somewhere else, you know what I mean? I wasn't shifting to a modern day setting with the Arcane characters, no.
I was shifting to a steam punk reality, where class division, systemic oppression, police brutality, poverty, etc, were inevitable. Since I live in Zaun there. So then I started gathering myself, drawing myself there - connecting with my Arcane reality. Whether that be music, drawing, or ANYTHING. I wanted to get COMFORTABLE with my surroundings for when I get there, because I'm going somewhere that's COMPLETELY different from my home here.
I also started reading other people success stories, Arcane DR's, all of that. Until I came to the realisation that I DO fit in my Arcane reality, I belong EVERYWHERE. Because - this is just my physical body. In reality? I'm just energy, a soul, a being, you know? The universe, multiverse, Godverse, whatever you wanna call it - is infinite. Infinite realities, infinite possibilities.
I started changing my line of thought, and started calling my "reality" home.
It was a BIG game changer for me.
But YES, back to your question - I fully believe that you should start to get to know yourself there, like - as in what their personality, looks, clothes, look like. Are they from Piltover? Zaun? Demacia? Noxus? The shadow isle? Ionia? Bilgewater?
Because in my opinion, where you come from or where you were raised, there, kinda creates your personality, your ideals, your dreams, inspirations, all of it.
Being "relevant" to the story is something I struggled with, but then I realised you have the power RIGHT WITH YOU. The universe is INFINITE, out there - you from that reality is in Arcane. They already EXIST! You ALREADY belong there!!!
This also comes in hand with the egg theory, I'd highly recommend reading topics on it or watching videos of it!! Was motivating for me, and gave me a different perspective!!!
Sorry if it sound mean, I didn't want it to😔☝🏾 But I'm not the best with ideas when it comes to giving other people ideas💔
But honestly this is what I can give you, take my advice!! Unless you've been doing it already, I'd definitely recommend reading success stories, or even tips on here about character creating or something - if it helps with the main character syndrome (twins)🙏🏾🙏🏾
But thank you for asking!! Safe travels back home!!🫶🏾🫶🏾 (your reality is home, GET IN THAT BUS AND GO HOME!!!)
#vi deserves better#arcane shifting#reality shifting#shifting reality#shifting#shifting antis dni#shifting advice#shifting awareness#reality shifter#desired reality#reality shift#shifting to desired reality#shifting to arcane#black shifter#the egg theory#egg theory#a universe already exists with whatever youre thinking#alternate universe#universe is infinite#YOU ALREADY EXIST THERE!!!!#Time to go back home!!!

Im seeing a lot of stuff in the deltarune/undertale community about hard boiled eggs and the red trees. I honestly don’t know what is going on but i would like to add something.
In Waterfall, you can find a bench with a quiche underneath. The official name is Abandoned Quiche. The flavor text states it is a psychologically damaged spinach and Egg based quiche. It says on the wiki this is based on the time Mr. Toby Fox actually found an abandoned quiche under a bench but you know things can change.

Musical egg theory
I believe the egg theory to be most present in musical creativity. Whether you are a person with no wish to create, on who is in their beginnings or one who has already succeeded with their art, we all have this similarity. We all take inspiration from eachother. As much as we’ve all got different tastes and opinions, we are all going to go get a little something from our peers. Because we’ve all got SOMETHING in common. It’s an eternal circle and has always been. We’ve taken from the past, present and will keep doing so for the future. That is why when it comes to musical art I believe in the egg theory, that we are all one in some way and we will search in each other our similarlys to bloom.

the thing about chip is that he's a little too unassuming. an orphan kid with no name and no memory of anything beforehand, yet is old enough to beg to join the black rose pirates. sure, you can believe it, even if the other orphan aboard definitely has a name
that orphan kid then goes on to survive the hole in the sea, amongst few who lived and made swift recoveries, but unlike lizzie he had no protector, and unlike roofus he was a child, only nine. alone in the recently corrupted black sea and with no magic, he managed to make his way to land, which we've learnt is at least a few days travel when on a ship. he didn't drown, or freeze, and he doesn't seem to remember it. it's odd. almost impossible, you could say. but fine, we move on
with gillion and jay, he's so clearly the odd one out. standing between the chosen one and a descendent of the sun, he seems out of place (especially from a meta perspective). but even then, fine, it's probably just meant to be funny
but then there's all the other things. out of the three deals we've seen, he's the only one who's found niklaus rather than vice versa. he slipped through a dream into the realm of who we can only imagine to be one of the most powerful people in mana. and you have to remember he didn't possess any magic until after the feywild. the deal happened after joaldo
he's undead now. his heart was ripped out, his flesh is decaying, but he lives. sure, the other crew members of captain widow were technically undead too, but the fact remains true that this is unusual. the undead thing lead to him following the compass (which is something else i'll get into, because doesn't he seem oddly interested in it yet unaffected) into that sack where he met with niklaus for a second time, the only riptide pc we've seen met him more than once. and the wish doctor seemed more than happy to share some of his secrets with chip
now the compass. it's made by niklaus, linked to desire, and when ollie used it just a few times in joaldo it had instant effects. chip keeps looking at the compass, so much so that it's now magically increased his desire to find arlin, and yet he's had no other effects
when he made the deal with niklaus, his price seemed hardly anything. "don't interfere". it doesn't exactly align with gillion's favour or jay's name and a command she must obey. also it technically gave him two things: knowledge of arlin's whereabouts, and reverting the effects on ollie. and once again niklaus shared more of his plans with chip than any other captain. like he trusts him, almost
inexplicably, chip can speak celestial. a language which just so happens to be key to unlocking all these clues surrounding the hole in the sea (the map, the door in the place beneath the sea as well iirc). jay's understanding of primordial is explained by navy lessons (makes sense if they're dealing with the undersea), but chip's celestial never is
and now the place beneath the sea -- where the cumagoon (do i have to write that in a serious analysis post?), now unlocked by the compass, led -- a voice welcomed him home
i think chip's more deeply connected to the black sea than even he has ever considered. it runs much deeper than simply the loss of arlin and the black rose pirates. i think he, like niklaus, is intrinsically tied to the entity known as the nameless prince, and thereby the egg. he might be more significant magically than we previously thought
